Interesting show with beatiful outfits and dance

Good show with a quick cup of tea at first in a separate room. Easy to change the voucher into ticket (one hour before the show). Very pleased.

Great experience

Having the ticket beforehand has been great. I think there were still available tickets onsite when we got there but the place was pretty packed by showtime so still good to plan beforehand.

If you plan to do the tea ceremony, there will be several batches as the room is small. Try to sit in the first row to experience the Maiko serving you your tea.

Good show, bad seat

I was given a foldable chair to sit in while other had regular seats in the theatre. I understand that I was not the only one given such a seat but it indicated that the theatre oversold their tickets? And given that I purchased my ticket one month in advance, I don't see how it should come to that. Veltra, as the go between, you should really look into the matter, or at least drop the booking from your site – as it reflects badly on you to be listing activities that don't meet a certain standard for paying customers. The show was great though.

久しぶりの京都だったのですが、ちょうど開催されている祇園おどりのチケットが手に入ったので、初めて鑑賞させて頂きました。都おどりとは落差があるかなあなんて思っていたら、とんでもない。とても丁寧に大変修練をつまれた踊りを拝見出来て、とてもお得に楽しむ事が出来ました。また、機会があれば訪れたいと思います。

Super style disappointing reality

Performance was excellent but was treated like maximazing turnover - tea ceremony too fast and on a personal level having book most expensive options well in advance was disappointed to be on an end row -on an additional hard chair unlike the the more comfortable seats in the auditorium - so my 3 reflects the efforts of the artists not the management

Loved this performance!!

Have been to Kyoto before but never saw a dance performance. It was fantastic and the seats were very good too. I really appreciated being able to get them from the US before the trip -- I expect they would have been sold out by the time we were in Kyoto, especially as we had 7 people attending. Fantastic night

We were brought around Gion by a very pleasant and friendly guide, starting with a performance of traditional Japanese theatre crafts. This was very engaging and a good way to get the true scope of Japanese theatre. Afterwards we had a very enchanting walking tour through Gion, ending with a delicious meal and tea ceremony in one of Gion's restaurants. The teahouse was very historical and even had a small museum, which the staff guided us around. Our guide offered to arrange transport back to our accomodation, but we wished to walk around Gion for another while so she allowed us to do so. Our group had only around several people, which meant we had a very intimate experience. We would highly reccomend.

A cultural experience

A very enjoyable tour of Gion and watching the Geisha dance. We enjoyed the dinner which was vegetarian a nice break after eating a lot of sushi and fish. The tea ceremony was the highlight conducted in a secluded room at the back of the house. We did this tour with a 3 year old and he enjoyed it and the staff very accommodating.

Una actuación que recomendaría no perderse a cualquiera que visite Kyoto. Son bailes tradicionales japoneses y es posible que no a todo el mundo le guste pero creo que es algo que hay que conocer. La reserva de los asientos estuvo bien, lo malo que no puedes elegir asiento.

Must see feature

This is traditional japanese thing you definitely want to see.
I personally love it.
You can watch it only here and only 10 days in a year, SO JUST DO IT.
On the other hand, tea ceremony is not the thing you want spend money on. It's not even ceremony: you just get matcha tea and small sweets.

Wonderful, enchanting experience

The opportunity to see the Gion Odori was such a lovely and unique pleasure. The dance was beautiful, and the costumes and sets were spectacular. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to see into the traditional and exquisite world of Geiko and Maiko.

Great cultural experience!

It's great that Veltra offered this service which allowed me to buy the ticket in advance. The tickets of this performance were actually only sold at the theater
As I bought it in advance via Veltra, I just collected my ticket at the entrance without worrying about the queue and out of tickets. The show was actually full house when I arrived there! So I highly recommended to buy ticket online in advance.
Before the show, there was a brief tea session in a big room with Maiko performing tea ceremony. The dance performance was like going back in time and totally immersed into Japanese culture!

Seat

The show was perfect, but my seat had a partial view of it! I was disappointed because I paid the same amount as other people but couldn't enjoy 100% of the show.

The essence of Gion

This is the meaning of it all, this is what the Geiko & Maiko are trained for. And this might be one of the very few opportunities that a tourist can see a Geiko perform. Not to be missed if you are in Kyoto during this period.

It was a really good experience, definitely worth doing. We had really good seats right at the front, and thoroughly enjoyed each performance. One of the highlights whilst staying in Kyoto.

Great performance

We went to the tea ceremony and geisha performance in Kyoto and thought both weee wonderful. The geisha doing the tea was stunningly graceful- beautiful to watch. Re the performance, the Kabuki in Tokyo had finished the October sessions and the place in Kyoto was still not open after renovations but this performance was fabulous alternative. Beautiful costumes, live musicians, well designed sets etc made for a dramatic performance- not just beautiful girls moving around to recorded music.

Wonderful experience in Kyoto!

Everything was perfect. The tickets were reserved by the time we checked in and the place of the seats were very good (third row quite near to the stage).

Beautiful performance

It was very beautiful and interesting show. As foriegner I didn't understand anything from songs, but I want to mention orchestra, very beautiful melodies. I enjoyed the show. Thank you!

As my heading states the show was great and the seats were perfect, we were sitting on the wing with a perfect eye level view of the stage.

authentic performance

We were very happy with the show and even more pleased we had the opportunity to be a part of the annual dance performance. The final act was beautifully done with Maikos and Geishas. The tea ceremony was quite rushed and did not resemble a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Overall a real authentic cultural experience, without any pictures as they were not allowed.

艶やかで美しく夢のひととき Translate

大変幸運な事に、最前列のお席で演者の息遣いまで感じられ大満足でした。
お菓子の題目の踊りなんて、どう表現するのかと思っていましたが、一景一景
楽しいストーリーになっておりコミカルな所作もあり、後で真似して我が家で、はやりました。
芸舞妓さんは日々の研鑽と精進を感じさせる素晴らしい舞台でした。
写真撮影は不可なので舞台の写真はありませんが、開演前のお茶席ではお菓子の皿を持ち帰ることができます。また、舞台最後のフィナーレは全員が艶やかに華々しく舞い圧巻です。
そして、何と、最後のさいごに芸舞妓さん達が客席に向かって小さな何かを投げ入れました。
とっさにキャッチし、後でほどいてみたら、芸舞妓さんの名前を染めた手ぬぐいでした。
お皿も手拭いも大切な良い記念品となりました。とても素晴らしく見応えありました。

Lovely Geisha Performance

I wanted to be sure to see a geisha performance while I was in Kyoto, and I was lucky that this one was on while I was in town. It was perfect. There were 6 different short dances. The costumes were beautiful, there was live singing, the location was very convenient, and the venue was good. The tea ceremony was like the "fast food" version, as they needed to get everybody in and out quickly to accommodate an entire theater full of people in the 1 hour before the show. But it was fine. No need to get there an hour early. 15 minutes is probably enough, and you'll still have time for your "fast food" tea ceremony. And they give you the plate as a souvenir. No photography is allowed, so I can't post any pictures.

素敵でした Translate

京都を旅行中、雨で観光がままならなかった日に祇園をどりを観てきました。
早く到着してしまい会場時間まで劇場前で待っていると、雨の中大変でしょうと早めに入場させていただけました。

開演前にお茶席があったのですが、狭い部屋で次々と流れ作業で事が進み、イメージしていたものとは異なり少しがっかりしました。運営に工夫がいるかもしれません。

おどりは都をどりと違い少数精鋭。人数は少ないですが、おどりはお上手でした。
来年もまたみに行きたいと思いす。

直前の予約でしたが、手配して下さったベルトラさん、また関係者の皆様ありがとうございました。

Top 3 temples in one day

There are so many temples in Kyoto but this tour took us to the 3 temples I wanted to see and the guide also pointed out all the temples along the way from the bus. It was just enough stops to maintain my 13 year old daughter's interest without getting bored. Audio headset for English and other languages were only used in the bus so we couldn't understand the guide's explanation at all the stops, which was disappointing to us and the rest of the non-Japanese speaking people on our tour. The time spent at each stop was perfect with enough time to quickly browse through the shops and try popular snacks sold near the temples. We received small omiyage or souvenirs from each temple which was a nice surprise! Although it's a ways down a lot of steps, you should take the time to drink the water flowing down 3 channels to a fountain at Kiyomizudera. They say it has wish granting powers for love, academic success and longevity. This was a great tour but would've been perfect if it was in English!
