I made a reservation with Veltra to enjoy sightseeing smoothly with four friends visiting from other prefectures in Kyoto. My friends wanted to see Shimogamo Shrine, Heian Shrine, Sanjusangendo, and Fushimi Inari. Since almost all the locations were around the Higashiyama area, I requested a four-hour course. Initially, we planned to go only to Sanjusangendo, but since we had extra time, we were able to go to Fushimi Inari as well. However, the roads were congested, which reduced our sightseeing time at the location, and it turned into a rushed experience, which was disappointing. I thought it would have been better to change the location and visit Fushimi Inari at our own pace. Our driver, Inoue, holds a Level 2 certification in the Kyoto Test and provided detailed explanations about the history of the temples and shrines, which was very educational even for me as a local. He was also humorous and a very enjoyable driver.

Even though I had been to Kyoto before, I hadn't done any sightseeing with a guide, so it was great to have the driver as a guide. It was also helpful to have someone take photos for me.

However, when we arrived at Tenryuji Temple, we were told that the guide would accompany us, and as soon as we entered the temple, we experienced an amazing guiding performance! I planned a trip to Kyoto for my daughter, who couldn't participate in her school trip due to poor health. We wanted to visit many places in two days, including Byodoin, Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, Rokuharamitsu-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, Fushimi Inari Taisha, Hokan-ji, and Gion, so we decided to hire a private taxi. The compatibility with the driver was quite challenging. There were times when they spoke casually (I’m probably older than the driver), and some of their comments felt a bit sharp, which made me feel uncomfortable. Spending almost the entire day together was tough.

Well, I guess this is also about compatibility.

In hindsight, it might have been better to catch a taxi using an app rather than a chartered service.

I could only stay in Kyoto for about five hours, but I was able to drink matcha, eat udon, and visit about four sightseeing spots! Despite the heat, I was able to use my time effectively without wandering around aimlessly. The driver also provided explanations for each location, which made me very satisfied! My child was in my arms the whole time, but we were able to rest each time we returned to the taxi, so I managed to keep my energy up. I would love to do this again!

京都には５時間ほどしか滞在できなかったのですが、抹茶も飲んで、うどんも食べて、４箇所程観光もできました!暑い中右往左往しることなく、滞在時間を有効的に使えました。
運転手さんがそれぞれの場所の説明もしてくださり、大満足でした!子供がずっと抱っこでしたが、タクシーに戻って毎度休めてたのでなんとか体力が持ちました。

I requested a 6-hour tour for a family of five. From the initial consultation about the course, they were very kind and attentive, and I received a confirmation call about the pickup time the day before, which made me feel at ease for the day of the tour. The driver also offered to guide us in English, and his wonderful personality made it a tour that everyone truly enjoyed. Thank you very much.

We departed at 8:30 AM, took a break for lunch, and visited a total of five places, ending at Kiyomizu-dera where we were dropped off. Although we went over time, the extra charges were reasonable, which was really helpful. I will definitely use this service again.
