I started a bit nervously with the materials for the sweets I was handling for the first time, but thanks to the craftsman's careful explanations, I was able to enjoy making them. I had a very fulfilling time being able to create four different types of sweets that matched the season.
初めて手にしたお菓子の素材に少々緊張気味でスタートしましたが、職人さんの丁寧な説明で楽しく作ることができました。季節に合わせたお菓子を4種類も作ることができてとても充実した時間が過ごせました。
To get started smoothly, it's a good idea to arrive a little early and take care of the restroom. Also, to beautifully finish the sweets, it's best to keep your nails short.

I had a clear and enjoyable experience making traditional Japanese sweets. It’s probably a much deeper world than I realized, but they taught it in a simple and easy-to-understand way, making for a fun time that flew by. Since that day, I've been practicing making matcha at home (*^^*). I heard that the types of wagashi change with the seasons, so I plan to go back for another experience.

I participated with my middle school daughter and elementary school daughter as a family. The explanations were thorough and easy to understand, and we were able to make four types of wagashi at a good pace. It was much more intricate than I had imagined, and we had a lot of fun. Since it was a weekday, there were only the two of us participating in the experience.
The experience took place on the second floor of the shop, which had plenty of tables and chairs, and we participated after washing our hands.
While listening to the explanation from the person in charge, I was able to make something even though I’m not very skilled with my hands. The experience lasted about an hour and included making three types of autumn sweets, so I highly recommend it for anyone looking to pass the time or interested in Japanese sweets.

During my trip to Kyoto, I was looking for something to experience and came across this wagashi (Japanese sweets) making experience.
On the day of the experience, since it was a weekday, there were only two other participants besides my husband and me, making it an intimate group. The shapes we made were determined by the season, and even for those of us who are not very skilled, we were able to create nice shapes, which really lifted our spirits and made it fun. I was also happy that we could enjoy the sweets with matcha afterward. Personally, I preferred eating them after taking them home and chilling them in the refrigerator.
京都旅行で、何か体験できないかと探していた時に、こちらの和菓子作り体験に辿り着きました。
体験当日は平日だったこともあり、私達夫婦以外に2名おり、少人数での体験でした。

The elementary school children had a great experience and really enjoyed it. The parents worked hard to support them throughout. The food was, of course, delicious and created wonderful memories. They were able to accommodate for egg allergies by providing egg-free options.

I had the impression that making wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) would be quite challenging, but the instructor showed their hands on video, which allowed me to create them by imitation. Even when trying to shape them into circles, they ended up looking irregular, making me appreciate the incredible skill of the artisans who sell these products in stores.
I participated with my elementary school daughter, and we both became completely absorbed, returning to our childhood. In the end, we enjoyed one of the sweets we made along with the matcha tea that was prepared for us. It had a refined taste with just the right amount of sweetness. Since we experienced this on the last day of our trip, we were able to take the remaining sweets home as souvenirs for our family. It became a wonderful memory.
I recommend this experience, as even small children can participate (it might be similar to playing with clay).

I experienced this with foreigners. If you're not familiar with wagashi, just being given a lump of red bean paste might not give you a clear image of it. We were only shown photos, not the actual items. That day, there were two types: tulips and rapeseed flowers. They were supposed to guide us through the process one by one, but when they started teaching a group that arrived late, the instruction for our group became quite neglectful. A 9-year-old boy started crying because he couldn't make the tulip petals well. A 13-year-old girl seemed unsatisfied no matter how many times she tried and kept remaking it. Materials fell on the floor, and the gloves for hygiene became difficult to use because they got stuck with the red bean paste, so in the end, they were working with bare hands. I thought to myself that this couldn't be eaten since they started without washing their hands. As a Japanese person, I thought the taste was good. However, I felt it was too difficult for the children.

9歳の男の子はチューリップの花びらがうまく出来ず泣き出しました。13歳の女の子はいくらやっても納得いかないらしく、なんども作り直していました。材料を床に落とすし、衛生の為の手袋もあんこがくっついて使いづらくなり、結局素手でやっていました。手も洗わずに始めたので、これは食べられないなあ、と思いながら見ていました。日本人としては、味は良かったです。でも、子供には難し過ぎると感じました。

Since I didn't have much time, I took one home and left the rest. The sweet bean paste wasn't too sweet and was tastier than I expected. There were times when my daughter couldn't hear the explanations because a group of male students who arrived late were talking too loudly. Since this is my third time in Kyoto, I wanted to experience something special, so I participated in this wagashi (Japanese sweets) making experience. We made four different types in about an hour. The process was easy to follow as we had a large display showing the instructor's hands while they explained each step, and the stories shared by the craftsman were interesting as well. There was also an overseas group participating at the same time, and they made their sweets beautifully. I realized that the explanations shown on the big screen were very clear and helpful.

I participated in a wagashi (Japanese sweets) making class during my trip to Kyoto with friends. We made four different types of wagashi in one hour, and the instructor explained everything clearly through both verbal instructions and hands-on demonstrations. The instructor was very kind and provided individual advice as they walked around, which made it reassuring for beginners.
It was a lot of fun to make wagashi with authentic tools and ingredients, and it became a wonderful memory. I heard that the motifs change with the seasons, so I would like to visit again in a different season.
