The room in the building lacks any soft decorations or ornaments, so the atmosphere is not great. Foreigners would probably appreciate a more abundant display of Japanese style in various places. The male teacher's friendliness was a saving grace, though.
ビルの1室で、和らしい飾り付けや置物などもないので、雰囲気がイマイチ。
外人とかはもっと過剰なくらい和テイストをいろんなところに出したほうが喜ぶだろう。
男性の先生が愛想は良かったのが救いかな。

I experienced this with my daughter. She had been saying for a while that she wanted to try nerikiri, so when I searched for options, I found this experience class. I thought it would be more memorable to make it ourselves, so we decided to participate. It was truly a wonderful experience! The craftsman was friendly, and we had a great time. I would love to try this again in a different season.
娘と2人で体験しました。
娘が以前から「練りきりを食べてみたい」と言っておりまして、検索したところこちらの体験教室を見つけ、どうせなら自分で作ってみた方が思い出にも残るし…と参加しました。
本当に良い体験ができました♪
職人の方も気さくな方で、楽しい時間が過ごせました。
また違う季節に体験したいです。

As it was my birthday month, a wagashi artisan made wagashi right in front of me. It was very delicious when I ate it at home, and it became a wonderful experience.

I learned how to shape four types of Japanese sweets! The craftsman taught us carefully, making it very easy to understand, which was great. We also received a manual that explains the types of sweets we make and their background, which is very educational. Since they change with the seasons, I want to master them all throughout spring, summer, autumn, and winter! Thank you very much! ^^

It was great to be able to pay my respects right in front of Toyokuni Shrine. In a spacious venue on the second floor, we made four types of sweets in one hour. They projected our work on a large screen monitor, which was considerate for those in the back to see as well. The instructor kindly went around to each table, showing us close-up examples of the sweets and offering advice. We also received explanations about the types and characteristics of the sweets, and they even provided cute paper boxes for us to take them home, which was very thoughtful. I took them home and tried them, and as expected from Kankatsudo, the taste was exquisite! My husband also enjoyed it quite a bit. It seems that the types of sweets change with the seasons, so I would love to go again if I have the opportunity.
豊国神社の真ん前で、お参りも出来て良かったです。
2階の広い会場で1時間で4種類のお菓子を作りました。
手元を大画面モニターに大きく映し出して下さり、後方の人もわかる配慮をされていました。
講師の方はポイントごとに各テーブルを回って下さり、間近でお菓子の見本を見せて下さったり、アドバイスをして下さりとても親切でした。
お菓子の種類や特徴などの説明も聞けて、可愛い持ち帰り用の紙箱まで用意して下さっていて至れり尽くせりでした。
持ち帰って食べましたが、さすが甘春堂さん、お味は絶品!
主人もなかなか楽しんでました。
季節によってお菓子の種類が変わるようなのでまた機会がありましたら行かせて頂きたいと思います。

It was located 700 yen away by taxi from Kyoto Tower. I originally had a reservation at 1 PM, but I was able to change it to 3 PM on the same day. There were three groups booked for that time. The person who guided us was very pleasant, and we were able to have a great time. We also received special items made by the teacher for each group. I took three middle school students with me, and it seems they had a wonderful experience. I would like to visit again if the opportunity arises.
京都タワーからタクシーで700円の場所にありました。
本当は1時からの予約でしたが、15時に急遽当日変更していただきました。
この時間は3組の予約でした。教えて下さる方もとても感じが良く、楽しく過ごす事ができました。
特別に先生が作った物も、グループ毎に頂けました。
中学生3人を連れて行きましたが、とても良い思い出になったようです。
また機会があれば伺いたいと思います。

We used this experience as a family of four with my parents. I thought it would be easy, like working with clay, but it turned out to be quite challenging, and even the adults were engrossed in the activity. Since we wanted to take our time eating, we requested a takeout pack and enjoyed it at the hotel. The red bean paste used was very delicious, and although the appearance of our creations wasn't great, we enjoyed them. The kids had fun, and my parents, who are over sixty, said it was their first experience like this and they had a great time. Compared to other wagashi-making experiences, this one was reasonably priced. While it seemed like making just two pieces was a bit few, the high difficulty level made two pieces just right. However, I wish we could have changed our gloves at least once.
両親と私の家族4人で利用しました。
粘土のようなものだと思ってナメていましたが、難易度が高く大人も夢中で作業していました。ゆっくり食べたかったので、持ち帰り用のパックを依頼してホテルで食べましたが、使用しているあんこがとても美味しく、見た目はイマイチな出来でしたがおいしくいただきました。子供も楽しんでくれていましたが、還暦を過ぎた両親も生まれて初めての体験でとても楽しかったとのことです。他の和菓子づくり体験よりもお手頃で、作る数は2つで少ないようにも思いますが、難易度が高い分、2つが丁度良かったです。ただ、手袋は1度交換させてほしかったなと思いました…。

I participated with an 8-year-old and an adult. As the title suggests, it was not too easy and not too difficult, allowing both adults and children to enjoy it. Additionally, the clear explanations from the staff meant that I didn't have to assist the child, which was great. The taste was also delicious.

I participated for the first time. It was a challenge for three generations: mother, daughter, and granddaughter, but we were able to enjoy it very much. The ingredients were, of course, high quality, and regardless of the outcome, the taste was excellent! We made three types of wagashi, and although they were all difficult, it was fun, and the time flew by.
The explanations from the master who taught us were very easy to understand, and they checked our work properly, making corrections when needed, which made me happy that I was able to create something that felt good enough.
I heard that different wagashi can be made each season, and I would like to participate again in the spring. I was able to create very good memories. I'm glad I participated.
初めて参加しました。母、娘、孫、3世代のちょうせんでしたが、とても楽しく取り組むことができました。材料はもちろんいいものなので、出来はさておき、味は最高でした!3種類の和菓子を作りましたが、どれも難しいけど楽しくて、あっという間の時間でした。
教えて下さる匠の説明もとてもわかりやすくて、ちゃんとチェックしてくださり、いまいちのときは修正していただき、なんとなく良い感じにできて嬉しかったです。
季節ごとに違う和菓子を作れるとのこと、今度は春に参加したいです。とても良い思い出を作ることができました。参加してよかったです。

I had a wonderful experience making nerikiri with two friends!
【General Flow】
1. Arrived at the venue about 5 minutes before the experience started.
2. Provided the name used for the reservation and waited for the venue to open.
3. Had my temperature checked and took off my shoes to enter the store.
4. Sat at the designated seat and waited for the experience to begin.
5. Put on gloves and started making nerikiri.
6. Finished the nerikiri making experience.
7. Was asked whether I wanted to take home the completed nerikiri or eat it on the spot (we chose to eat it there).
8. Ordered tea from the drink menu and enjoyed it with the nerikiri.
9. Paid only for the tea and left the store.
【Things to Know Before You Go】
- Since this is a food establishment, please do not take out any food or drinks you brought with you.
- If you get thirsty, you can order drinks from the menu located on the back of the sample photo on the table!
- The restroom is located to the right behind the purple curtain at the front of the store.
- During the process, quite a bit of fine anko fell on my lap (this may vary by person). It’s a good idea to place a handkerchief on your lap at the start of the experience.
- Your hands will get sticky while making, so it might be difficult to handle your smartphone or camera, but the staff will take photos for you. It’s smoother if you take out your smartphone or camera on the table before your hands get sticky.
【Thoughts on the Experience】
Since it was December and close to Christmas, we made a Christmas tree and peony nerikiri!
The sample photos were placed in a clear file, so I knew what we would be making as soon as I sat down. I thought the peony would be more difficult, but the tree turned out to be much harder, haha.
The peony was easier to make using a triangular stick (the wooden stick next to the ladle in the photo) and chopsticks, giving me a strong sense of "I'm making wagashi," and it was not too difficult, so I enjoyed making it✨.
For the tree, we pushed anko out through a small hole in the ladle to sprinkle it over the core black anko. This was quite challenging. The anko wouldn’t stick well to the black anko, and even when I pressed it down with my fingers, it didn’t go as planned… This was true for both the leaf and decorative parts, which were also difficult to attach.
Even though I was wearing gloves, my hands got sticky, so I couldn’t touch my smartphone. I thought about taking a photo, but the staff kindly took pictures for me! They announced, "If you would like a photo taken, please place your smartphone on the table. The staff will assist you!" It might be easier to have your smartphone out from the beginning to avoid having to take off your gloves and search for it in your bag later.
It was more challenging than I imagined, and after concentrating on making, I ended up with very stiff shoulders when we finished! Even though I was sitting the whole time, I felt like I had exercised, haha. Plus, there was a great sense of accomplishment when we finished!
After the experience, we could eat the nerikiri on the spot, so I ordered warm green tea, which was absolutely delightful! The sense of achievement from completing the nerikiri combined with the fatigue from concentrating made it very satisfying.
While we were eating, it seemed that there was also a tea ceremony experience happening in a nearby area. A few people transitioned from the nerikiri making experience to the tea ceremony. I could hear discussions about matcha, which piqued my interest! It seemed like there was a lovely aroma of matcha being ground with a stone mill (though I couldn’t smell it from where I was).
【In Conclusion】
It was more challenging than I expected, and the sense of accomplishment when we finished was significant and enjoyable! Since we made a tree this time, I think seasonal themes will be the focus for nerikiri, so I’d love to experience it again with a different theme at another time! Maybe I’ll pair it w
友達と3人で練り切り作り体験してきました。
【大体の流れ】
1. 体験開始の5分前くらいに会場に到着
2. 予約した際の名前を伝えて開場を待つ
3. 検温をして靴を脱ぎ店内に入る
4. 指定された席に座り、開始を待つ
5. 手袋をつけて練り切り作りを開始
6. 練り切り作り体験終了
7. 完成した練り切りを持ち帰るかその場で食べるか聞かれるのでこたえる(今回はその場で食べました)
8. 飲み物メニューからお茶を注文し、そのお茶と練り切りをいただく
9. お茶代だけ追加で支払い、店を出る
【行く前に知っておくと安心できること】
・飲食店の扱いなので、持参した食べ物や飲み物は店内で取り出さないようにしましょう。
・もし喉が渇いたら、机の上のお手本写真の裏側にあるメニューから飲み物を注文できます!
・トイレは店内正面向かって右側の紫色の暖簾の先にあります。
・制作途中、細かいあんこが膝の上に結構落ちました(人によるかもですが)。体験開始時にハンカチを膝に敷いておくと安心できます。
・制作途中は手がべたべたなのでスマホやカメラを自分で触りづらいですが、スタッフの方が代わりに写真を撮ってくれます。手がべたべたになる前から、スマホやカメラを机の上に出しておくとスムーズです。
【体験した感想など】
12月でクリスマスも近いということで、作る練り切りはクリスマスツリーと牡丹でした!
お手本の写真がクリアファイルに入って置いてあるので、着席した時から何を作るかは分かっており「牡丹の方が難しそうだな」と思っていたのですが、断然ツリーの方が難しかったです笑
牡丹は三角の棒(写真:おたまの右横の木の棒)を使ったりおはしを使ったりと「和菓子作りをしているなあ」という実感が湧きやすく、かつあまり難しくないので楽に作れました✨
ツリーはおたまに開いている小さな穴からあんこを押し出してぱらぱらにし、それを芯となる黒あんに盛り付けて(貼り付けて…?)いきます。
これが結構難しいです。
なかなか黒あんに貼り付いてくれず、指で抑えるもぱらぱら感が潰れて思ったようにいきません…。
これは葉っぱ部分もそうですし、飾り部分も同じく貼り付けづらかったです。
制作途中は手袋しているとはいえ手がベタつくのでスマホは触れません。
写真撮ろうと思ったのになあ…と思っていたら、スタッフさんが代わりに撮ってくれました!
「お写真を撮影して欲しい方は、机の上にスマホを置いてください。スタッフがお声がけします」と途中でアナウンスしてもらえます!
最初からスマホを出しておくと、途中で手袋外してカバンからスマホを探して…とならないので楽かもですね。
想像していたより難しく、集中して作っていたら、終わった時にめちゃくちゃ肩がこりました!
体験中はずっと椅子に座ってるのに、運動した気分になれます笑
あとは、完成した時の達成感がとてもありました!
体験後はその場で食べることができるので、温かい緑茶を注文していただいたのですが、とても最高でした!
完成した達成感と集中した分の疲労感にとても沁みます。
私たちが食べている間、少し離れたスペースでお点前の体験もやっているようでした。
練り切り作り体験からすぐにお点前体験される方がちらほらという感じです。
声が届く距離なのですが、お抹茶の話が聞こえてきてとても気になりました!
石臼で抹茶を挽いた良い香りがしていたみたいです(香りまではこちらに届かなかった…)
【おわりに】
想像していたよりも難しくて、完成した時の達成感が大きくて楽しかったです!
今回はツリーだったということは、季節感のあるものが練り切りのお題になると思うので、また時期をずらして別のお題で再度体験したいと思います!
次はお点前体験もセットにしようかな〜!

I participated with my sixth-grade daughter and my mother! I'm not particularly skilled, but they taught us carefully, and we somehow managed to complete it! The taste was outstanding, as expected! Finally, I was impressed by the craftsmanship, speed, and skill on display!

My husband and I participated together. They taught us how to wrap the fillings in a very detailed manner, and my husband was able to make them beautifully, which seemed to be quite fun for him. I heard that the items made change with the seasons, so I hope to participate again.

The kind craftsman teaches carefully. It might be difficult for small children, but it's okay if adults provide support. Those with long nails need to be careful not to tear the fabric. The wagashi we took home was enjoyed with family while reminiscing about that time. Please wash your hands well before you start making it.

We participated as a parent and child.
It was fun and went by in a flash. I was expecting to enjoy some matcha and sweets at the end, but it was just matcha, which was disappointing. I understand it's due to COVID, but if that's the case, I think matcha isn't necessary either. There wasn't enough time, so I had to drink it all at once (laughs).
Also, since children's hands are small, I think it would have been more enjoyable for them if materials were prepared for kids as well.
The wagashi I made myself was delicious when I ate it at home!

楽しくてあっという間でした。
最後に出してもらえる抹茶とお菓子を食べれると思ってたら、抹茶のみ、、で残念。
コロナなので仕方ないのかなと思いますが、だったら抹茶も要らないかなと思いました。
時間なくてイッキ飲みだし(笑)
あとは、子供は手が小さいので、子供様に材料も用意してもらえたら、子供ももっと楽しめたと思います。
自分で作った生菓子、家で食べたけど美味しかったです!

The unique charm of the surrounding scenery and shops in Kyoto is truly special. The shop where I experienced making traditional Japanese sweets had a great selection of souvenirs, and the tea they served as hospitality was really delicious! During the experience, a young craftsman instructor patiently taught us each step slowly.
京都ならではの風情のある近隣の風景とお店の佇まい。和菓子作りを体験させていただくお店は、お土産のお品も充実していていますし、おもてなしいただいたお茶も本当に美味しくて!体験では、一つひとつゆっくりと、若い講師の職人さんが丁寧に教えてくださいます。

The children who are practicing tea ceremony wanted to make wagashi (Japanese sweets), so their parents joined in as well. The craftsman who provided the lecture made it easy to understand and created beautiful examples right in front of us, almost like magic. The sweets turned out to be quite nice, and even though they didn't look perfect, they were incredibly delicious thanks to the high-quality ingredients. The children seemed to have so much fun that they expressed a desire to learn more about wagashi. The hour flew by joyfully. However, the matcha at the end was quite lumpy, which disappointed the children since they were having tea. With Kiyomizu-dera nearby, we enjoyed a refreshing travel experience, making it a very meaningful day. We will definitely visit again.
茶道をしている子どもとその友達が和菓子を作りたいとのことで親もついでに参加しました。
レクチャーしてくださる職人さんがわかりやすく魔法のようにうつくしい見本を目の前で一緒に作ってくださいます。
それなりに形になり、材料がむちゃくちゃいいので
見た目イマイチでもすごく美味しいお菓子でした。
子どもは和菓子を習いたいというほど楽しかったようです。
1時間あっという間に楽しくできました。
最後のお抹茶がダマダマがひどく
子どもはお茶をしているだけに残念がっていました。
清水寺も近く、久々旅行気分を味わい大変有意義な1日となりました。
また伺います。

We came to Kyoto for a short family trip. There was only one other group participating, but the spacious environment was nice. It was fun to make four pieces of wagashi (Japanese sweets).

The craftsmen kindly taught us, and I was able to learn about the depth of making traditional Japanese sweets. It was a very good experience. Also, the COVID-19 measures were well implemented, which was great!

After the Obon holiday, on a weekday, and due to the impact of COVID-19, there was only one other couple besides us participating, so we could clearly hear the craftsman's voice. We were able to see the finer details up close, which made for a satisfying experience.

The infection control measures were thorough, allowing us to experience the activity with peace of mind. There were only two groups, including us, so it felt spacious. It was my first experience with wagashi, and the shop was very clean, making it a lot of fun! The sweets were delicious, and I learned about the intricacies of wagashi, which made for a fresh and wonderful memory. (o^^o)
感染症対策ばっちりで安心して体験することが出来ました。人数も私たち含め2組だったので余裕があり、初めての和菓子体験でしたがお店も清潔感がありとても楽しかったです!実際食べてみても美味しくて和菓子の難しさを知ることができたので新鮮でいい思い出になりました(o^^o)

I incorporated a trip into our itinerary based on my daughter's wish to try making wagashi (Japanese sweets). It was conveniently close to Kyoto Station, and since we could participate hands-free, we were able to fit in other sightseeing plans before and after the experience, making good use of our time. The instructor's explanations were clear and thorough. The ingredients for the wagashi were the same as those sold in stores, making them very delicious. We made three types of namagashi (fresh wagashi), and I was pleased with the variety of an (sweet bean paste) types: tsubuan (chunky red bean paste), koshian (smooth red bean paste), and shiroan (white bean paste). Personally, I was disappointed that we couldn't taste the sweets at the venue due to the impact of COVID-19, but I appreciated that we had time for photos. The formation of wagashi was more delicate than I had imagined, and it was a very enjoyable experience. However, I had expected to be able to participate in the stages of kneading the an and coloring the dough, so I was surprised that all the materials were prepared in their finished forms at the venue. I think it would be clearer if it were referred to as a wagashi formation experience rather than a wagashi making experience.
今回和菓子を作ってみたいという娘の希望で旅行日程に組み込みました。京都駅からも近く、手ぶらで参加できるので体験前後にも他の観光の予定を入れることができ時間を有効活用できて良かったです。講師の先生の説明はわかりやすく丁寧でした。和菓子の材料も実際にお店で販売されている和菓子と同じものをご用意いただけるのでとても美味しいです。今回3種類の生菓子を作りましたが粒あん、こしあん、白あんとあんの種類にもバラエティがあり、和菓子好きとしては嬉しかったです。個人的にはコロナの影響で体験会場での試食が叶わなかったことが残念でしたが写真撮影の時間をとっていただけたのはありがたかったです。和菓子の形成は想像以上に繊細でとても楽しい体験でした。ただ和菓子作りでは餡を練ったり、生地の色づけをしたりする段階から体験できると思っていたので会場に全ての材料が完成した形で用意されていた点はイメージと異なりました。和菓子作り体験ではなく和菓子形成体験としていただければわかりやすいのになと思います。

I had a great experience for 1500 yen! However, the time allotted seemed short, and as a beginner, I didn't have enough time to make satisfactory wagashi. It felt a bit rushed. But I enjoyed it and had a lot of fun! (*ˊᗜˋ*)ノ୨୧*.゚
1500円でオトクな体験ができました!
ただ時間設定が短かったのか、素人には時間が足りなくて、満足のいく和菓子は作れませんでした。駆け足な感じが強かったです。

I made 3-4 types of summer wagashi (Japanese sweets). I was very satisfied to be able to create beautiful wagashi that I had always wondered how to make with my own hands. Using ingredients from the long-established Kankundo and actual professional tools, the process was completed. Although it was a short time, the explanations were clear and the organization was good.
It might be difficult for those who are clumsy or not interested in wagashi, but I think it would be incredibly fun for people who enjoy cooking and making sweets. Since it is usually crowded with tourists and foreigners, it would be good for people from neighboring prefectures to go while they can. They also paid careful attention to hygiene. I want to learn about autumn, winter, and spring sweets as well.
夏の和菓子を3-4種類作りました。
今までどのように作っていたのだろうと思っていた美しい和菓子を自分の手で作れて大満足でした。
老舗の甘春堂の材料と実際の本格的道具を使って仕上げていきます。短時間ですが説明もわかりやすく段取りがよいです。
不器用な人や和菓子に興味がない人は難しいかもしれませんが、料理やお菓子つくりが好きな人はめちゃくちゃ楽しいと思います。
ふだんは観光客や外国人でいっぱいで行けないので、近隣の県の人も今のうちにいくとよいです。衛生面でもしっかり配慮されていました。
秋冬春のお菓子も習いに行きたいです。
