I visited on Sunday, November 11, when the colors were just starting to change. About a week prior, I decided to take a 1-night, 2-day trip to Kyoto with my mother, who is nearly 80. Since I wanted to navigate the expected crowds due to the autumn leaves as smoothly as possible, I found this plan. We arrived at 5:25 PM, and it seemed that the entry to Eikando was around 5:30 PM. There was a long line at the parking lot, but we crossed that and were guided to the dining area shortly after 5:30 PM.

The meal was a standard kaiseki, but I was glad to have the yudofu (hot tofu). The taste was average, so I deducted one star for that. Although it was quite crowded inside, it was beautiful, so I recommend it. Around 7:30 PM, we were also able to listen to a performance of gagaku, which was nice. It would have been even better if there had been some guidance about that.

It was a great help that we could enter without burdening my elderly mother and without wasting time. When I made the reservation, my questions were answered quickly and politely, which made me feel at ease when applying. Thank you very much.

I recommend this for those who want to enter without waiting.

1週間ほど前に1泊2日で京都に行くことを決めて、もうすぐ80になる母と一緒でしたので、紅葉で混雑予想の中、なるべくスムーズに回りたいと思っていたら、このプランを見つけました。1725着で、永観堂の拝観入場は、1730〜のようでしたが、駐車場の方にもぐるぐると長蛇の列、そこを横切り1730過ぎには食事会場にご案内いただきました。
お食事は、普通の京懐石でしたが、湯豆腐がたべられて良かったです。お味は普通でしたので、その分星⭐️を一つ下げました。
中も大混雑でしたが、綺麗でしたので、おすすめです。1930ころでしょうか？雅楽の演奏も聴けて良かったです。せっかくなので、その案内があるともっと良かったかもしれません。
高齢の母に負担なく、時間のロスなしで入れたので大変助かりました。予約の際に質問にも迅速に丁寧にお答えいただき安心してお申込みできました。ありがとうございました。
とにかくならばず入りたい方にはオススメです。

Eikando is known for its beautiful red autumn leaves, and I heard this on the way there in a taxi. However, the leaves had just started to change, and the light-up featuring the yellow and green leaves was also fantastical and very beautiful. Without a doubt, it is one of Kyoto's representative spots for autumn foliage.

For dinner, we were able to enter earlier than our reservation time, so we could enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace. While we were waiting, the staff kindly engaged with us and guided us to the garden.

The night viewing only includes the garden and the statue of the returning Buddha, so I think it’s best to explore the entire hall during the day to appreciate the differences between day and night.

永観堂は真っ赤の紅葉が美しいと行く途中のタクシーで聞かされましたが、紅葉が始まったばかりで、黄や緑が多い紅葉のライトアップも幻想的でとても美しかった。間違いなく、京都を代表する紅葉の名所でした。
夕食も、予約時間より早く入れたのでゆっくり食べられました。待っている間、スタッフの方が話しかけてくれたり庭への移動を先導してくれたりと親切でした。
夜間拝観は、庭と見返り様だけなので、昼間堂内全域を見ておくと、昼と夜の違いも楽しめると思います。

The meal was not only beautiful, resembling autumn leaves, but also delicious. Although we arrived a bit early, the staff was kind and attentive, which was very helpful.

The autumn leaves were a beautiful tapestry of green and red. We enjoyed the experience comfortably without having to wait in line for the admission tickets.

I had a short two-day trip to Kyoto, and I was really glad that I could have dinner and enjoy the autumn leaves illumination without having to wait in line. Since it was the first day of the illumination and the autumn leaves were a bit early, I hesitated to book this tour, but when I finished viewing and saw the long line for entry, I realized that booking the tour was the right choice.

Led by a woman named Chikako, Tea Ceremony Camellia is a great introduction to the origins of the green tea ceremony. She taught us its history and how to make the matcha tea ourselves. Camilla is situated in the Gion neighborhood , so make sure you have at least an hour before or after to walk around and explore the neighborhood. They kept the group limited to 6 people so it was an intimate experience. I highly recommend this lesson during a hectic day of sightseeing as it offered a peaceful oasis and a moment to reflect on the traditions of Kyoto.

We missed the shuttle bus so taking a taxi was our only option. The Hotel Monterey Kyoto front desk was so kind and willing; she called the cab and informed the taxi driver where to drop us off which saved us a lot of time. The shuttle from the restaurant came out and met us about a mile away as the roads get narrow and difficult to find for drivers unfamiliar with that area. The cab fare came out to be about $35-40 from the Hotel (which was less than what I expected). I highly recommend catching the shuttle service on time (be there early as they will leave exactly on time!)-- not only it's more comfortable having someone drive you to the restaurant, but it will save you time and money.

The restaurant is located in a very secluded and quiet area, completely surrounded by nature. They will greet and walk you to your designated table. The guiding lights in the complete dark woods make the ambience more beautiful. All meals will come out in your eating pace... which is important because I eat pretty slow and sometimes course meals rush you to hurry up and eat. I wasn't sure how to eat fish properly (whether I was supposed to eat the whole entire fish or leave the head or tail), so the older lady came over and removed all the bones for me. Service was fantastic.

There were two Maikos that night-- both Maikos came around, very willing to take pictures and answer questions/ conversate with you. When they start their dancing, I couldn't help but to stare in awe. They look like walking dolls. They also had goodies before the show (i.e a fan, canvas bag, etc). It was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend this tour. I want to do this again if I travel back to Kyoto in near future.

From the drive out of Kyoto Center up the cool hills past traditional tiled roofed houses, to our evening end with our gracious hosts smiling behind us as we walked back over the rope footbridge with the twinkling Japanese lanterns lighting the lush green river - A Magical Evening indeed.
Arriving at sunset, you see the beauty of the hot spring resort with our tables overlooking the river and mountain forest. We ordered the snow course (full- larger Kayseki) dinner. Traditional hosts (who speak only a little English) took us to our low tables set with course 1, gift Japanese fans and menu's in English. Sake and beer is additional. We had 2 Maiko's that evening, each separately visited all the tables to take pictures. (they speak Japanese, but can answer a little of English questions) Food was fresh, delicious and so artistically presented course by course. The beautiful dance & musical entertainment was lovely in the intimate setting. Each group had their own tables and the room is not too large. Splurge and treat yourself to this special experience.

According to the tour operator who guided us, we (two people) were the first Japanese participants. By the way, we were the only participants this time.

However, I think this tour is excellent for those who enjoy sake, as it allows you to "see," "learn," and "taste" the sake of Fushimi all at once.

The course content seems to vary slightly depending on the day, but in our case, it was roughly as follows. First, we visited the Gokō Shrine, which is connected to sake because it is said to have a famous spring called "Fushimi no Gokōsui."

The first sake brewery we visited was the smallest one in Fushimi. We enjoyed a tasting set of three types of sake at a small bar where we could see the sake tanks. It was very delicious. (Since all the sake was delicious, I won’t mention "delicious" for each one.)

Next, we went to the "bar in the shopping district" mentioned in the schedule on the website. Here, we also tasted three types of sake. Gradually, we started to feel quite good.

The third stop was a nationally renowned sake manufacturer, where we toured their museum. This manufacturer was founded in the early Edo period, but it seems that the president who made various innovations during the Meiji period was quite remarkable. It was said that the current status was built by the skills of this "founder of the revival." I was impressed, feeling a bit tipsy, thinking this is a perfect example of "easy to start, difficult to maintain."

Finally, we visited the "hidden sake bar" mentioned in the schedule. The sight of 17 glasses lined up in the "sake tasting set" we drank was quite spectacular. (However, it was one set for the two of us.)

As we enjoyed these tastings, the three hours of the tour came to an end, and we parted ways with our guide. Of course, we could stay at the bar until we finished drinking, and we could continue to drink at our own expense.

From the explanation above, you can see that this tour is perfect for sake lovers. Additionally, Fushimi is a charming town with attractions like Teradaya, where Sakamoto Ryoma was attacked and narrowly escaped thanks to the quick thinking of Oryō. It would be nice to take a stroll to sober up.

Lastly, I recommend having a meal beforehand to avoid drinking on an empty stomach when participating.

次は、ウェブサイト上のスケジュール説明に出ている「商店街のバー」。ここでも、3種の日本酒を飲み比べた。だんだん、良い心持ちになってくる。
3か所目は、全国的に名の知れた清酒メーカーで、そこの資料館を見学する。このメーカーの創業は江戸時代初期だが、明治時代になって様々な革新を行った社長が偉かったらしい。この「中興の祖」の手腕によって、現在の地位が築かれたという。これこそ「創業は易く守成は難し」の見本であるなと、ほろ酔い気分で感心した。
最後は、スケジュール説明にある「隠れた日本酒バー」である。ここで飲んだ「利き酒セット」で、17種のグラスが並ぶさまは、なかなか壮観だ。（ただし、2人で1セット）
これらを賞味しているうちにツアーの3時間が到来し、ここで案内の方と別れた。もちろん、飲み終わるまでこのバーにいてよいし、さらに自費で飲み続けることもできる。
以上の説明からもお分かりになると思うが、日本酒好きにはピッタリのツアーだ。また、伏見はなかなか風情のある街で、坂本龍馬が襲われてお龍（おりょう）の機転で辛くも脱出したと伝えられる寺田屋などの見どころもある。酔い覚ましに散策するのも良いだろう。
なお、参加される際は、すきっ腹での飲酒とならないよう、事前に腹ごしらえをしておくことをお勧めする。

This tour is "twice as enjoyable" not only because of the riverside setting but also because you can meet maiko. Three maiko came to visit us. They went around to each table, allowing us to enjoy friendly conversations. It was amazing to see the dance up close. Last time, we had sukiyaki for our meal, so this time I opted for kaiseki. The summer dishes like hamo sashimi and grilled sweetfish were delightful. Additionally, there was a lottery event (on the 3rd and 5th of the month), which added to the excitement! (Although I didn't win anything... (^^;))

川床だけでなく、舞妓さんにも会えるという「２度おいしい」ツアーです。舞妓さんは３人来てくれました。各テーブルに回ってきてくれるので、気さくにおしゃべりを楽しむことができました。舞もすぐ近くで見ることができて最高でした。前回は食事がすき焼きだったので、今回は懐石にしてみました。鱧おとしや鮎の塩焼きなど、夏らしい料理で良かったです。また、今回はちょうど抽選会(３と５のつく日)があって、ワクワク感を楽しめました！（何も当たりませんでしたが…(^^;)）

The timing of the autumn leaves and cherry blossoms varies each year, and I was anxious about whether I would see good foliage, but I hit the perfect season. Until now, when I thought of autumn leaves, I pictured the mountains, but here at Eikando, it was truly a garden that seemed to have gathered trees specifically for the autumn leaves. It's filled with autumn foliage, and you can see an abundance of leaves. This tour is just a package that includes meals and entrance fees with a meet-up and disperse on-site, and if I went on my own, I could visit at a lower cost. However, everyone is eager to enjoy the autumn leaves, and it was very crowded with tourists. Considering the hassle of finding less crowded dining spots, I’m glad I signed up for this tour.

紅葉や桜の開花の時期は毎年異なり、良い紅葉が見られるかとヤキモキしていましが、まさにベストシーズンに当たりました。
これまでは紅葉と言うと山々の紅葉を思い描いていましたが、ここ永観堂は、
まさに紅葉のために樹木を集めたがごとくの庭園のでした。
紅葉づくし、、で、これでもかというぐらいの紅葉が見られます。
このツアーは、現地集合現地解散の食事と入園料を組んだだけのもので、勝手に自分個人で行けば、もっと安価に訪れることができるでしょう。
しかし、紅葉を楽しもうとするのは皆さん同じで観光客でとても混雑しています。空いている食事場所探しや手間を考えると、このツアーを申し込んで良かったと思います。

I want to tell my daughter about this wonderful place. The fresh green was dazzling. I thought I might feel lonely traveling alone, but that wasn't the case at all. The driver and everyone else were very welcoming, so I didn't feel lonely. The greenery of the mountains is beautiful.

It was my first time experiencing the rainy season in Kyoto. I planned my trip mainly to see the hydrangeas at Mimuroto-ji, but I found a seasonal event at Tōrin-in called "Sakura no Hana wo Mederu Kai," which piqued my interest in shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine), so I joined the tour.

Since I was exploring on my own, I could take my time without worrying about the clock, allowing for leisurely sightseeing and dining based on the day's schedule. I visited Tōrin-in during a relatively quiet time just before noon. It was my first time seeing the sakura flowers, and I was thrilled; I wanted to gaze at them forever. The matcha and sweets were elegant, and I enjoyed them while looking at the garden. I also enjoyed listening to the abbot's talk.

The shojin fuwazen offered a variety of dishes that were enjoyable both visually and in taste. While some men might find the portions a bit small, I felt pleasantly full.

After lunch, I viewed the Unryū-zu at Myōshin-ji, leisurely explored the temple, and then headed home. Seeing different scenery with each season makes me want to visit Kyoto again and again.

三室戸寺のあじさいが主目的で旅行を計画しましたが、季節限定の東林院「沙羅の花を愛でる会」の企画を見つけて、精進料理にも興味があり、ツアーに参加。
個人で回るので時間を気にせず、その日の都合でゆっくり観光＆食事ができました。
昼前のやや空いている時間帯に東林院に行きました。沙羅の花は初めて鑑賞でき感激っ、ずっと眺めていたい思いになりました。お抹茶とお菓子は品があり、お庭を見ながら美味しいただきました。住職のお話も楽しく拝聴しました。
精進風和膳は種類も多く、目でも舌でも楽しめました。男性には量が物足りなく感じるかもしれませんが、私はほどほどお腹いっぱいになりました。
昼食後は、妙心寺の雲龍図を見て、のんびりお寺を回り、帰路につきました。

I visited the Shara Sōju at Myoshinji Tōrin-in. The lunch at Hanagokoro was reasonably priced and delicious, and the staff were pleasant and the restaurant was clean. Last time, I ordered food at the temple, but it was not much different. Despite the unfortunate rain, the Shara Sōju and hydrangeas were beautiful, and I enjoyed matcha as well, which made me very satisfied. Thank you very much.

My parents took this tour and had a wonderful time. The setting was beautiful and the evening couldn’t have been more perfect with nice warm weather. They really enjoyed the meal of Shabu Shabu and felt the meat was tender and delicious. They really enjoyed meeting the Maiko and admiring her beautiful clothing and make up as well as her dancing. They staff were all very friendly and the included transport back to their hotel was very convenient.

The quiet yet abundant blooming of the sarara flowers was truly beautiful. I enjoyed the sarara flower sweets, and the matcha was deliciously prepared. However, the meal was not good. I wish I had chosen to dine at Tōrin-in if I had known.

Definitely a highlight of our trip

We were so glad that we decided to purchase this dinner. The restaurant have an amazing view of the river and eating at the kawandoko (terrace on top of the river) is an experience not to be missed. We got the shabu shabu meal and it was perfect since when we went, it was raining and cold, so it was the perfect warming up meal for us.
The maiko came at around 7 and talk to each of the table, take photos and answer a few simple questions. She can't speak well in English, but she can understand if you speak basic English and very slowly. Then she performed 2 dances, they both very elegant and beautiful.
At around 8 pm, the restaurant switch off the lights, so that we can watch fireflies around the riverside. Apparently this is only happens in June. It was truely an amazing and unforgettable experience for both of us.
The pick up and return transfer is pretty efficient too, very happy overall. Definitely would recommend!

Additionally, you'll have the chance to interact with maiko and watch their dances. The experience concludes with firefly viewing, making it a truly precious experience that you can't normally enjoy. The staff were very pleasant, and I felt great throughout. I had a wonderful time. Thank you very much!

Breathtaking experience!

This trip was very pleasant experience. I was there with my mom and we both enjoyed very much. Food was great. Two people share a hot pot, with one big plate of Japanese beef and one plate of vegetable! The highlight was to watch Maikos dance in a very close distance! I can see her holding her pose and dancing slow but gracefully. It is breathtaking! I would say this is the best trip you can do to get the completely Kyoto experience! Love it!!

Maiko Dance with Dinner & Kyoto Night View Tour by KYOTO Sightseeing“OKOSHI”Bus

Wish there was more of a Geisha show.

The food was based off of local Kyoto tradition and was a wide selection of food. There was a Geisha dance but it was only one Geisha and was a short performance which was disappointing. The place was nice and garden was pretty though.
