I visited for a meal with friends. The weather was nice that day, and since it was early autumn, the temperature was just right, making for a comfortable experience. The meal included mizutaki and many beautiful small dishes, all of which were very delicious and visually enjoyable.

The scenery suggested that the autumn leaves were just starting to change, but the green leaves were also beautiful, so I think I came at a good time. Next time, I definitely want to visit during the summer riverside dining and the autumn foliage season.

友人との食事で利用させて頂きました。当日は天気もよく、秋口だったので気温もちょうどよく、快適に過ごせました。お食事は水炊きとたくさんのきれいな小鉢が用意されていてどれもとても美味しく、見た目も楽しめるものばかりでした。
景色は紅葉がこれからといった感じでしたが、葉が緑なのもまたきれいだったのでいい時期に来られたかなと思います。
次回は夏の川床、紅葉シーズンにもぜひ訪れたいと思います。

I enjoyed a delicious meal while feeling the atmosphere of a traditional Kyoto townhouse. My friend and I savored the Kyoto cuisine served in a three-tiered box, and we also had a lively conversation about Ippodo tea. This is definitely a place I would like to visit again.

京町家の雰囲気を感じながら、美味しくいただきました。
友人と三段のお重に盛られた京料理に舌鼓を打ちながら、一保堂のお茶の話でも盛り上がりました。
また訪れたいお店ですね。

It's easy to find the location as it's straight from the station, making access very good. Perhaps because I went during a three-day weekend, there were quite a few participants, around 30 people. The instructor demonstrates in front, but also comes around to explain to those in the back, so there's no need to worry. The processes like coloring aren't too difficult, and it's fun to create! However, it seemed challenging for those with small children. Bringing the red bean paste to the center and making it look nice was indeed difficult, and I truly felt the skill of the artisans (laughs). Since it's treated as a dining establishment, eating and drinking inside the facility seems to be prohibited. You can eat what you've made on the spot, and drinks can be requested additionally. We mentioned we didn't need any since we planned to go to a café next, and there was no particular pressure to order. The time required was as stated, 70 minutes.

駅から直進でつくので、場所も分かりやすくアクセス良好です。３連休に行ったからか、30人くらいと結構参加人数が多かったです。
講師の方が前で見本を見せてくれるのですが、後ろの方にも回ってきて説明してくれるので心配ありません。
着色などの工程はそんなに難しくなく、楽しく作れます！ただ小さなお子様連れの方は大変そうでした。
あんこを真ん中に持ってくる、見た目を綺麗にするなどはやはり難しく、職人技のすごさを痛感しました(笑)
飲食店扱いなので、施設内で飲食することは禁止のようです。完成したものをその場で食べることもでき、飲み物は追加で希望できます。私たちは次にカフェに行く予定だったので不要とお伝えしましたが、特に勧められることありませんでした。
所要時間は記載通り70分でした。

I was taught with care and had a fun experience. My elderly parents also said they enjoyed it. I struggled to create things as I had imagined, and I truly felt the greatness of the craftsmen.

I had a great time. I wondered how the locations for watching the maiko performances are decided. The two participants were closer, while those with three or four people were at the ends, which felt a bit awkward.

とても楽しかったです。舞妓さんの舞を観れる場所が、どうやって決まるのか❓と❓思いました。二人参加の方が近くて，3人4人の人達は、端の場所でしたので、少し違和感を感じました。

I signed up for this experience because I wanted my American friend, who traveled to Kyoto with me, to learn about Japanese tea ceremony. It was very helpful that the teacher spoke fluent English.
Although I am Japanese, I had no experience with tea ceremony, and I felt like I learned a lot and was able to appreciate the beauty of Japanese culture once again.

On the day of the lesson, it was just my daughter and me. The teacher's explanations were clear and easy to follow, even for elementary school students. I am grateful for the opportunity to experience making traditional Japanese sweets at a great price. I would like to recommend it to my friends. However, when I arrived in front of the store 10 minutes before the meeting time, we couldn't enter yet, and the doors opened exactly at the meeting time. Considering the time needed for the restroom and getting ready, I wish they would open a little earlier.

当日は娘と2人だけのレッスンでした。先生の説明は丁寧な手順でわかりやすく小学生でもついていけました。和菓子作り体験をお得に体験出来てありがたいです。友人にも紹介したいと思いました。ただ、集合時間10分前に店舗前に行くと中にまだ入れず、集合時間ぴったりに開いたので、トイレや身支度の時間も考えるともう少し早く開けて欲しいと思いました。

Unless you're part of a tea ceremony club, it's quite rare to have the experience of making traditional Japanese sweets and matcha, so this was a very valuable opportunity. I wasn't able to achieve the appearance I had in mind, and since the ingredients for wagashi change with the seasons, I would love to experience it again!

茶道部とかでもない限り、和菓子を作ってお抹茶を作る経験はなかなか出来ないので、すごく貴重な機会になりました。

I occasionally make sweets, but this was my first experience with Japanese sweets! We did it in a group lesson format, and the pace was just right. It was easy to understand, and I would love to try it again.

We experienced it as a pair, but I wished I could have allowed my husband to enter for the sake of taking photos.

お店で見かけるキレイなお菓子は、いろいろな技によって作られるということを、実感しました。
子どもにとっても、ただ楽しいだけではないものを感じられる時間だったと思います。

The food was delicious, and the view was absolutely stunning. The maiko were also adorable, making for a truly luxurious experience. The staff were attentive and provided courteous service. I definitely want to go again!

お料理も美味しく、なんといっても景色が最高、そして舞妓さんも可愛く、大変贅沢な思いをさせて頂きました。お店の方も気が利き、丁寧な対応をしてくださいました。是非また行きたいです！！

The reservation was for two adults, so they prepared snacks for two people, and we experienced it as a family of three with my husband and our one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Each step was explained and demonstrated carefully, making it very easy to understand.

My daughter played with the provided tools (like chopsticks) and dropped them on the floor, but they quickly replaced them with new ones.

We could choose to eat the wagashi we made on-site or take them home, and since we had originally reserved for takeout, the process of receiving the box was smooth. When we ate them at home, they were incredibly delicious, and we were impressed.

As for infection control measures, there was temperature checking and disinfection at the entrance, a recommendation for silent eating, and a mask-wearing requirement.

申し込みは大人2名なので、2名分のお菓子を用意していただき、夫と1歳半の娘と3人で体験しました。
一つ一つの工程を丁寧に説明、実演してくださり、とてもわかりやすかったです。
娘は、用意されている道具(お箸など)で遊んでしまい、床に落としてしまいましたが、すぐに新しいものと交換してくれました。

作った和菓子はその場で食べるか、持ち帰りを選択でき、もともと持ち帰りで予約していたので箱の受け取りもスムーズにしてくださいました。
家に帰ってから食べると、とても美味しくて感動しました。

感染症対策として、入り口で検温と消毒、黙食の推奨、マスク着用義務がありました。

I had initially been turned away for participating alone, but at this place, An, they adjusted the schedule to accommodate me. I was very happy because I wanted to experience making traditional Japanese sweets in Kyoto. The instructor's explanations were easy to understand, and the relaxed atmosphere allowed me to create without feeling pressured to follow the example exactly. We decided to eat the sweets we made on the spot, and although drinks were an additional charge, they created a welcoming vibe. The sweets had a subtly sweet and refined taste, and I was very satisfied with the results. I made wonderful memories from this trip. Thank you. I would like to come back with friends and family next time.

1人参加だと断られてしまっていたのですが、こちらの庵anさんでは、時間を調整して入れてもらえました。
京都で和菓子を作る体験がしたかったので、とても嬉しかったです。
インストラクターの方の説明がわかりやすく、見本の通りに作らなくてもよいというおおらかさで、安心して作ることができました。
作った和菓子はその場で食べることにして、ドリンクは別料金でしたが、断り安い雰囲気を出してくれていました。
ほんのりと甘さを感じる上品な味で、満足な出来上がりでした。

I participated alone, but thanks to the kind and attentive staff, I had a great time! I was a bit worried about sitting seiza on tatami mats, but it was nice that both the sweets-making and tea experiences were done sitting at a table and chairs! The explanation for the sweets-making was a bit fast, and I barely managed to keep up, but there were examples, and I did fairly well! They provided red bean paste from a shop in Kyoto, and it was very delicious! I had the tea experience as well, so it wasn't a problem for me, but I felt that the recommendation for a drink at 500 yen, since outside drinks were prohibited, was a bit pushy for other customers. I thought it would be nice to offer a small amount of tea or water for those taking sweets home. I felt that could have been a bit more considerate. They also set aside time for photography, and it was great that they helped with the shooting and lent out photo backdrops! It was a very Kyoto-like experience, so I would like to bring my friends next time!

一人での参加でしたがスタッフの方々が優しく丁寧に教えてくだったおかげで楽しめました！畳に正座するのかなと不安でしたが、お菓子づくりもお茶もテーブルと椅子に座っての体験で良かった！お菓子づくりの説明のスピードが少し速くてついていくのがやっとでしたが、見本もありまあまあ上手くできました！京都のお店のあんこを用意してくれて、味もとても美味しかったです！私はお茶の体験もあったので問題なかったですが、他のお客さんに対して持ち込みの飲み物が禁止とのことで1杯500円のドリンクのおすすめが少ししつこいかなと感じた。お菓子食べて帰る用に少量のお茶か水くらい出してもいいのでは？と思いそのへんもう少し親切だったらなと感じました。撮影の時間も設けてあり、撮影手伝ってくれたり撮影用の台紙の貸し出しもよかった！京都らしい体験できたのでまた次回は友達連れて行きたいなと思いました！

I participated with a friend! Since it was my first time, I was worried about whether I could do it well, but the detailed explanations made it possible for me to create something I'm satisfied with. I would like to participate again.

I have been to the riverside dining areas in Kamogawa and Kibune in the past, and in terms of the scale of the facilities and the distance to the water, it was somewhere in between Kamogawa and Kibune. The blue maple leaves were beautiful.

Since I went on a Monday, and perhaps due to the COVID-19 situation, it was quite empty, which allowed for a relaxing experience. However, I felt that the quality of the food was rather modest for the price. I assume that profits have decreased due to COVID-19, and maintaining the facilities likely incurs costs, so I understand the situation.

On the positive side, the restroom inside the riverside area was surprisingly nice. I didn't have high expectations given the location, but it turned out to be a surprisingly clean flush toilet.

過去に鴨川の納涼床、貴船の川床に行ったことがありますが、設備の規模及び水との距離の点では鴨川と貴船の中間といったところでした。青モミジが奇麗でした。
行ったのが月曜で、コロナの問題もあるからか、かなり空いており、ゆっくりできたのは良かったのですが、料理内容は価格の割に大分質素な感じがしました。コロナで利益が減っただろうし、設備の維持にも費用が掛かると推察されるので、仕方がないだろうとは思いました。
逆に良かったのは川床内にあったトイレです。場所だけにあまり期待していなかったのですが、意外に奇麗な水洗トイレでした。

I took it back to the hotel to eat. I made a mistake with the coloring along the way, but they suggested an alternative, and I think it turned out cute in the end. I heard that the motifs change with the seasons, so I would like to experience it again when I come to Kyoto.

ホテルに持ち帰って食べました。途中色の付け方を間違えてしまいましたが、別案を提案してくれて、結果可愛く作れたなと思っています。季節で作るモチーフが変わるらしいので、また京都に来たら体験したいです。

I made wagashi for the first time. The staff explained everything carefully, and I was able to enjoy it even as a beginner. The finished wagashi was also very delicious.

The experience itself was enjoyable. I had reserved a box for takeout, but it seemed like it would get all messy on the way home, so I decided to eat it there. However, I couldn't cancel the takeout box. The box itself was a plastic case, flimsy, and not of quality that matched the price.

体験そのものは、楽しかったです。
持ち帰り予定で、箱を予約していましたが、持ち帰ったらぐちゃぐちゃになりそうだったので、その場で食べることにしましたが、持ち帰りの箱のキャンセルはできませんでした。
箱自体は、プラスチックのケースで、ペラペラで、値段ほどの質のものではありません。

My friend and I had a nerikiri experience at 10:30 in the morning. Perhaps because it was early, there were only the two of us as customers. As a result, we received almost one-on-one instruction, which was great! Thanks to that, we were able to create very beautiful pieces.

When there are many participants, it's easy for the instructors to overlook each individual, so if you prefer a smaller group or a more relaxed experience, it might be a good idea to book a morning session.

友人と2人で朝一(10時30~)の練り切体験をしました。朝が早かったからか、私達2人しかお客さんはいませんでした。そのため、ほぼマンツーマンで教えて貰っている状態に笑 おかげでとても綺麗に出来ました。
沢山の体験者がいると、自ずと一人一人には目がいかなくなるので少人数で受けたい方、落ち着いて受けたい方は朝からのものを予約するといいかもしれません。

I participated in a traditional Japanese sweets making class as a memento of my trip to Kyoto. They carefully taught us the necessary tools, names, and methods for making wagashi. It was a lot of fun to create seasonal wagashi. It was also my first experience with the tea ceremony, and the explanations about the tea leaves, the stone mill, the water temperature, and the proper way to enjoy matcha were clear and thorough! Finally, I enjoyed the matcha and sweets, and they were delicious.

I would like the seats in front and behind to be separated. For the child, since the gloves are too big, using rubber bands would be good. The child will get a little bit of dirt on their clothes.

The COVID-19 infection control measures were sufficiently implemented (ventilation, disinfection, social distancing, etc.), so I felt safe participating.

I was glad to finally experience "wagashi making," which I had been interested in for a long time. They provided tips on how to make it, so next time I will try using a kit from a confectionery store. Since it was an early morning session, I was able to enjoy sightseeing afterward as well. I heard that the experience varies with the seasons, so I would like to participate again.

ずっと興味があった「和菓子作り」体験が出来良かったです。作る時のポイントを教えて頂けたので、今度は製菓店のキットを使って作ってみます。朝早くの回だったので、その後観光もゆっくり出来ました。季節毎異なるそうなのでまた参加したいです。

The room in the building lacks any soft decorations or ornaments, so the atmosphere is not great. Foreigners would probably appreciate a more abundant display of Japanese style in various places. The male teacher's friendliness was a saving grace, though.

ビルの1室で、和らしい飾り付けや置物などもないので、雰囲気がイマイチ。
外人とかはもっと過剰なくらい和テイストをいろんなところに出したほうが喜ぶだろう。
男性の先生が愛想は良かったのが救いかな。

I realized how challenging it is to make wagashi! It seems that the wagashi changes with the seasons, so I would like to participate again!

We used this experience as a family of four with my parents. I thought it would be easy, like working with clay, but it turned out to be quite challenging, and even the adults were engrossed in the activity. Since we wanted to take our time eating, we requested a takeout pack and enjoyed it at the hotel. The red bean paste used was very delicious, and although the appearance of our creations wasn't great, we enjoyed them. The kids had fun, and my parents, who are over sixty, said it was their first experience like this and they had a great time. Compared to other wagashi-making experiences, this one was reasonably priced. While it seemed like making just two pieces was a bit few, the high difficulty level made two pieces just right. However, I wish we could have changed our gloves at least once.

粘土のようなものだと思ってナメていましたが、難易度が高く大人も夢中で作業していました。ゆっくり食べたかったので、持ち帰り用のパックを依頼してホテルで食べましたが、使用しているあんこがとても美味しく、見た目はイマイチな出来でしたがおいしくいただきました。子供も楽しんでくれていましたが、還暦を過ぎた両親も生まれて初めての体験でとても楽しかったとのことです。他の和菓子づくり体験よりもお手頃で、作る数は2つで少ないようにも思いますが、難易度が高い分、２つが丁度良かったです。ただ、手袋は１度交換させてほしかったなと思いました…。

I participated with an 8-year-old and an adult. As the title suggests, it was not too easy and not too difficult, allowing both adults and children to enjoy it. Additionally, the clear explanations from the staff meant that I didn't have to assist the child, which was great. The taste was also delicious.

8歳と大人で参加しました。タイトル通り、簡単過ぎず難しすぎずで、大人も子供も楽しめることができました。
また、係の人のわかりやすい説明で、私が子供の補助をしなくて良かったのもよかった。お味も美味しかったです。

【General Flow】
1. Arrived at the venue about 5 minutes before the experience started.
2. Provided the name used for the reservation and waited for the venue to open.
3. Had my temperature checked and took off my shoes to enter the store.
4. Sat at the designated seat and waited for the experience to begin.
5. Put on gloves and started making nerikiri.
6. Finished the nerikiri making experience.
7. Was asked whether I wanted to take home the completed nerikiri or eat it on the spot (we chose to eat it there).
8. Ordered tea from the drink menu and enjoyed it with the nerikiri.
9. Paid only for the tea and left the store.

【Things to Know Before You Go】
- Since this is a food establishment, please do not take out any food or drinks you brought with you.
- If you get thirsty, you can order drinks from the menu located on the back of the sample photo on the table!
- The restroom is located to the right behind the purple curtain at the front of the store.
- During the process, quite a bit of fine anko fell on my lap (this may vary by person). It’s a good idea to place a handkerchief on your lap at the start of the experience.
- Your hands will get sticky while making, so it might be difficult to handle your smartphone or camera, but the staff will take photos for you. It’s smoother if you take out your smartphone or camera on the table before your hands get sticky.

【Thoughts on the Experience】
Since it was December and close to Christmas, we made a Christmas tree and peony nerikiri!

The sample photos were placed in a clear file, so I knew what we would be making as soon as I sat down. I thought the peony would be more difficult, but the tree turned out to be much harder, haha.

The peony was easier to make using a triangular stick (the wooden stick next to the ladle in the photo) and chopsticks, giving me a strong sense of "I'm making wagashi," and it was not too difficult, so I enjoyed making it✨.

For the tree, we pushed anko out through a small hole in the ladle to sprinkle it over the core black anko. This was quite challenging. The anko wouldn’t stick well to the black anko, and even when I pressed it down with my fingers, it didn’t go as planned… This was true for both the leaf and decorative parts, which were also difficult to attach.

Even though I was wearing gloves, my hands got sticky, so I couldn’t touch my smartphone. I thought about taking a photo, but the staff kindly took pictures for me! They announced, "If you would like a photo taken, please place your smartphone on the table. The staff will assist you!" It might be easier to have your smartphone out from the beginning to avoid having to take off your gloves and search for it in your bag later.

It was more challenging than I imagined, and after concentrating on making, I ended up with very stiff shoulders when we finished! Even though I was sitting the whole time, I felt like I had exercised, haha. Plus, there was a great sense of accomplishment when we finished!

After the experience, we could eat the nerikiri on the spot, so I ordered warm green tea, which was absolutely delightful! The sense of achievement from completing the nerikiri combined with the fatigue from concentrating made it very satisfying.

While we were eating, it seemed that there was also a tea ceremony experience happening in a nearby area. A few people transitioned from the nerikiri making experience to the tea ceremony. I could hear discussions about matcha, which piqued my interest! It seemed like there was a lovely aroma of matcha being ground with a stone mill (though I couldn’t smell it from where I was).

【In Conclusion】
It was more challenging than I expected, and the sense of accomplishment when we finished was significant and enjoyable! Since we made a tree this time, I think seasonal themes will be the focus for nerikiri, so I’d love to experience it again with a different theme at another time! Maybe I’ll pair it w

【大体の流れ】
1. 体験開始の5分前くらいに会場に到着
2. 予約した際の名前を伝えて開場を待つ
3. 検温をして靴を脱ぎ店内に入る
4. 指定された席に座り、開始を待つ
5. 手袋をつけて練り切り作りを開始
6. 練り切り作り体験終了
7. 完成した練り切りを持ち帰るかその場で食べるか聞かれるのでこたえる(今回はその場で食べました)
8. 飲み物メニューからお茶を注文し、そのお茶と練り切りをいただく
9. お茶代だけ追加で支払い、店を出る


【行く前に知っておくと安心できること】
・飲食店の扱いなので、持参した食べ物や飲み物は店内で取り出さないようにしましょう。
・もし喉が渇いたら、机の上のお手本写真の裏側にあるメニューから飲み物を注文できます！
・トイレは店内正面向かって右側の紫色の暖簾の先にあります。
・制作途中、細かいあんこが膝の上に結構落ちました(人によるかもですが)。体験開始時にハンカチを膝に敷いておくと安心できます。
・制作途中は手がべたべたなのでスマホやカメラを自分で触りづらいですが、スタッフの方が代わりに写真を撮ってくれます。手がべたべたになる前から、スマホやカメラを机の上に出しておくとスムーズです。


【体験した感想など】
12月でクリスマスも近いということで、作る練り切りはクリスマスツリーと牡丹でした！

お手本の写真がクリアファイルに入って置いてあるので、着席した時から何を作るかは分かっており「牡丹の方が難しそうだな」と思っていたのですが、断然ツリーの方が難しかったです笑

牡丹は三角の棒(写真:おたまの右横の木の棒)を使ったりおはしを使ったりと「和菓子作りをしているなあ」という実感が湧きやすく、かつあまり難しくないので楽に作れました✨

ツリーはおたまに開いている小さな穴からあんこを押し出してぱらぱらにし、それを芯となる黒あんに盛り付けて(貼り付けて…？)いきます。
これが結構難しいです。
なかなか黒あんに貼り付いてくれず、指で抑えるもぱらぱら感が潰れて思ったようにいきません…。
これは葉っぱ部分もそうですし、飾り部分も同じく貼り付けづらかったです。

制作途中は手袋しているとはいえ手がベタつくのでスマホは触れません。
写真撮ろうと思ったのになあ…と思っていたら、スタッフさんが代わりに撮ってくれました！
「お写真を撮影して欲しい方は、机の上にスマホを置いてください。スタッフがお声がけします」と途中でアナウンスしてもらえます！
最初からスマホを出しておくと、途中で手袋外してカバンからスマホを探して…とならないので楽かもですね。

想像していたより難しく、集中して作っていたら、終わった時にめちゃくちゃ肩がこりました！
体験中はずっと椅子に座ってるのに、運動した気分になれます笑
あとは、完成した時の達成感がとてもありました！

体験後はその場で食べることができるので、温かい緑茶を注文していただいたのですが、とても最高でした！
完成した達成感と集中した分の疲労感にとても沁みます。

私たちが食べている間、少し離れたスペースでお点前の体験もやっているようでした。
練り切り作り体験からすぐにお点前体験される方がちらほらという感じです。
声が届く距離なのですが、お抹茶の話が聞こえてきてとても気になりました！
石臼で抹茶を挽いた良い香りがしていたみたいです(香りまではこちらに届かなかった…)


【おわりに】
想像していたよりも難しくて、完成した時の達成感が大きくて楽しかったです！
今回はツリーだったということは、季節感のあるものが練り切りのお題になると思うので、また時期をずらして別のお題で再度体験したいと思います！
次はお点前体験もセットにしようかな〜！

It was my first visit to the temple, and the spacious grounds were wonderful, bringing peace to my heart with the beautiful Japanese scenery. Enjoying matcha while viewing the autumn leaves at the temple was a calming moment, and I was very satisfied to experience such tranquility that I don't usually get to enjoy.

初めて訪れたお寺でしたが広い敷地で素晴らしく､和の風景に心癒されました。お寺での紅葉を見ながらのお抹茶は心落ち着くひとときで、日頃経験できない落ち着いた時間が過ごせて大満足です。
