Check-in at Yoshitani Woodworks
We introduce the traditional "Hikimage" technique that has been passed down for 700 years. We will also explain the significance and uses of the Sanpo shape, as well as the fact that over 80% of domestic production takes place in Shimoichi Town.
In the woodworking shop filled with the gentle aroma of cypress, you can tour the manufacturing process of Sanpo. The sight of numerous Sanpo stacked up to the ceiling is truly impressive! You can closely observe the craftsmen processing the wood and the assembly of the Sanpo.
You can create either a Sanpo or an accessory case. Please let us know your preferred experience when making your reservation.
Experience the creation of Sanpo, an essential part of traditional Japanese living. Try making a Sanpo using the unique "Hikimage" technique, which involves making cuts in pieces of cypress wood to bend them.
A Sanpo is a stand used for carrying offerings or gifts. It is commonly used to hold kagami mochi during New Year's or as a platform for offerings in a household Shinto altar.
This is a hands-on crafting experience that everyone, from children to adults, can enjoy. Using the "Hikimage" technique, try making a small container. The container you create can be used to store accessories or small items. Experience the joy of handcrafting everyday items!
