The mangrove cruise felt just like a real jungle cruise. The boatman skillfully navigated the increasingly narrow waterways due to the tides, pointing out flying birds and small fruits as we spotted them, which was impressive.

During the bus ride, the locals we usually encounter while sightseeing in Okinawa only used a slight dialect, but the driver spoke a little in Okinawan (Uchināguchi), which was easy to understand. It sounded almost like a spell!

The bus ride was short, but the scenery was very nice. We crossed to Yubu Island on a water buffalo, and I was amazed at how calm and intelligent the buffalo were. The buffalo I took a photo with was named Rui-kun. I was drawn to his expression, and the photo we took together became a wonderful memory.

The village on Taketomi Island had such an atmosphere that when viewed from the observation deck, it felt like I had entered another world. It was truly beautiful.

However, I was informed at the waiting area that there was a shared bus service. You can ride it for just 300 yen! I was able to enjoy the village while also visiting the star sand beach. Be sure to try the gelato on Yufu Island. When you arrive on the island, head straight to the spot where you can interact with the water buffalo and take pictures! If you don't go first, it gets crowded, and you won't be able to visit other places.

Rental bicycles: If you plan to explore by bike, there's not much time, so I think three spots is about the limit. Kaiji Beach → Kondoi Beach → a café ☕️ might be just the right amount of time to enjoy. I recommend the café at Parlor Painu Island for mango café, kakigori, or coffee.

I had a great time exploring. However, when I asked the staff at the counter for suggestions on how to pass the time after returning to port and before my next schedule, I was a bit disappointed that there were no particular recommendations, as it might have been outside their service.

I saw rare butterflies and rode a water buffalo across the sea. At that moment, the young man handling the water buffalo played the sanshin and sang, which was moving. The houses on Taketomi Island were incredibly beautiful structures. I was strolling around the island on foot, but I was sticky with sweat from my pants and shirt. I recommend using a rental bicycle.
