My elementary school child was worried since it was their first time snorkeling, but he taught us patiently and kept checking on us once we were in the water, allowing our whole family to enjoy it with peace of mind. Thanks to him, my child quickly got used to snorkeling and was enthusiastically chasing after the sea turtles. Participating in this tour on the first day of our trip and learning how to snorkel was great, as it allowed us to enjoy snorkeling on our own afterward. Miyako Island has unpredictable weather that often doesn't match the forecast, but we were lucky and it was sunny! At the meeting time, there was heavy rain, and we waited in the car because we hadn't taken photos yet. We waited for just under an hour, but afterwards, we were able to take wonderful pictures. Since these are photos I couldn't have taken myself, I'm glad I asked for them. I definitely want to request this again when I visit Miyako Island next time.

I participated with a friend. The instructors for the morning sea turtle snorkeling were two women, Nakamura-san and Yuki-san, who were very kind and provided detailed guidance. My friend, who cannot swim, required quite a bit of assistance, but they remained cheerful and even took pictures with the sea turtles until the end (≧∇≦).

I experienced snorkeling and SUP with this plan, and it was so much fun! Since I participated in early July during the busy season, there were about five or six other groups along with me, and we did the activities under the guidance of our instructor, Kei. Although there were quite a few people, we could swim freely in the ocean, and it was wonderful to see sea turtles and beautiful fish! We also got to take many photos with the sea turtles and fish, which made for even better memories.

Since this activity involves spending a long time in the water and on the SUP board under the sun, I think it's a good idea to bring at least a rash guard.

I was amazed to see vibrant and beautiful fish like clownfish even from the kayak. At the end, we received a wonderful video shot with a drone, which was even more impressive! I was very satisfied. If I have friends traveling to Miyako Island, I would definitely recommend this activity. Also, during casual conversation, I was given recommendations for great places to eat, and I went right away! We gathered at 9:00 AM (Shinjiro Coast) and disbanded at 3:30 PM (Horarizumi Beach). Since I couldn't drive, I took a taxi in the morning, and for the transfers and to the hotel, I received shuttle service. It seems that taxis are hard to catch in Miyako Island, so it might be better to allow for extra time.

In the morning, we went snorkeling and encountered sea turtles and fish! I was amazed at how close I could see them. It was so beautiful. I personally have almost no swimming experience, and I could only put my face in the water by pinching my nose and closing my eyes, but I was glad I could see so much underwater.

I want to share some tips for beginners like me, as I got panicked and ended up drinking water or losing my sense of direction. 1) When clearing the fog from the snorkeling goggles, make sure to shake off the seawater well; I got a little water in my eyes at first. 2) If you laugh too much, gaps can form in the goggles, letting water in, so keep them a bit tighter. 3) Don’t overexert yourself while swimming to avoid gasping for air and inhaling water. 4) When you put your face in the water in a "attention" position and just kick your legs, you can move straight ahead more easily. 5) If you get too absorbed and keep your face in the water, you might not hear sounds, so occasionally lift your face to listen to the guide and check your position.

In the afternoon, we went to see the Pumpkin Cave. We kayaked to the entrance of the cave, and I think if you communicate with your fellow paddlers, you can make good progress (we almost got stuck a few times). The flow was: go through the entrance hole (you can't touch the bottom here) → see the pumpkin → get out of the water and climb up the cave → listen to the guide's explanation while exploring → dive from where we first climbed. Inside the cave, there were many other tour participants, and it was sometimes hard to find a place to step, but surprisingly it wasn't slippery, and I didn't fall or slip. It was cool, and I could feel the timelessness of nature; it was wonderful.

Regarding the pumpkin, here are some points to be careful about: 1) I think the path to the kayak and the sea is the maximum sunburn zone. Apply sunscreen generously. 2) When climbing the cave, a lot of water splashes on your face, which can be alarming, but try to stay calm, grab the rope, and climb slowly without rushing (I got a pretty bad scrape on my elbow because I panicked thinking, "I'm blocking the next person! Water on my face!"). It's better to take it slow or wear a rash guard. 3) When diving, I pinched my nose and closed my eyes as I fell. Since I was wearing a life jacket, I knew I would float eventually, so I stayed calm and waited until my face was out of the water.

I wrote a lot because I had quite a bit of anxiety, but I had fun from start to finish, was moved, and was very satisfied! Even though I can't swim, I gained confidence that I could do this much. パニくると水を飲んでしまったり方向が分からなくなって不安になるので、私レベルの初心者が気をつけた方がよいことを書いておきます。 ①シュノーケリングのゴーグルの曇り取りの時に海水をよく切らなかったせいで、最初少しだけ目に水が入ってしまったので、水はよく払っておく。②大きく笑うとゴーグルに隙間ができて鼻に水が入るので、ややキツめにしておく。③頑張って泳ぎすぎて息を切らして口から水を吸わないようにする。④気をつけの姿勢で顔を水につけて足だけバタバタしたら、早めに真っ直ぐ進めました。⑤夢中になってずっと顔を水につけていると音が聞こえなくなりやすいので、時たま顔を上げてガイドさんの声を聞き位置を確認する。
午後はパンプキン鍾乳洞を見に行きました。
カヤックで鍾乳洞の入り口まで行くのですが、同乗者と声をかけながら漕ぐと割と上手く進めることができるのではないかと思います。(数回座礁しかけましたが)
鍾乳洞は入り口の穴をくぐる(ここから足つきません。)→パンプキンを見る→水から上がって鍾乳洞を登っていく→ガイドさんの説明を聞きながら回る→最初登ったところからダイブ、という流れでした。鍾乳洞の中は他のツアー参加者も多く、足の踏み場に迷うこともありましたが、意外とすべりにくく、転んだり落ちたりはしませんでした。ひんやりしていて、悠久の自然を感じられて、素敵でした。
パンプキンについても、上と同様に気をつけるポイントを記載しておきます。①カヤックや、海までの道が最大の日焼けゾーンだと思います。日焼けを大げさに塗る。②鍾乳洞を登るとき、顔にかなり水がかかってビビりますが、できるだけ落ち着いてロープを掴み、焦らず冷静にのぼる。(次が詰まってしまう！顔に水が！と思って焦り、ひじにけっこう染みるすり傷ができました。落ち着いてゆっくり挑むか、ラッシュガードを着るといいと思います。)③飛び込むときは鼻をつまんで目を閉じて落ちました。ライフジャケットを来ておりそのうち絶対に浮くので、顔が水から出たと思うまで落ち着いてゆっくり耐えます。
かなり不安があったので色々書いていますが、最初から最後まで楽しかったし、感動したし、大満足です！泳げないけどここまでできたぞという自信にもなります。
本当に恐怖でトラウマがある場合は別ですが、経験なくて怖い、不安だという方でも意外となんとかなると思うので、参加してみることをおすすめします！

I may have had a bit too high expectations from the photos. I think the weather played a part as well. Also, since it was mid-July, which is high season, there were many people snorkeling, making it a bit scary to paddle, and I felt there were not many photos with just us in them (someone was always in the frame). This might be an issue related to the timing.

Additionally, there were three staff members who assisted us, and when we first took photos, one of them asked if we wanted to remove our life jackets before taking the pictures. I replied that I would like to remove them if possible, but another staff member ended up explaining things, so my request didn't get communicated, and we took the photos with the jackets on...
