I participated in the morning tour only, but it was just right to end with the beautiful sea and beach after trekking through Shiratani Unsuikyo and Jomon Sugi.

On the last day of my trip to Yakushima, my return flight was after 2 PM, so I took advantage of a half-day tour in the morning. It was great to visit places that I wouldn't have been able to cover on my own. The driver's explanations were very interesting and informative, making for an enjoyable time! I also appreciated that they took photos for me, which was a nice touch for a solo traveler. Fortunately, the weather was good, and everywhere I went had stunning views. I was able to see many monkeys and deer along the Western Forest Road, creating wonderful memories. I highly recommend this for any free time or after a tiring day of hiking!

屋久島旅行の最終日、帰りの飛行機が14時過ぎだったので午前中の半日コースを利用しました。
なかなか自分では回りきれない場所をまとめて行けるのでとても良かったです。
運転手さんの説明もとても面白く、ためになる内容ばかりで楽しい時間を過ごすことができました！写真も撮っていただけるのもひとり旅には嬉しかったです。

My first time in Yakushima, and since the Jomon Sugi was quite a hard trek, I took the Yakuzaru bus for a round trip.

By chance, there were only five of us in a ten-seater vehicle, and we were able to capture some great shots of the dancing deer.

I also got to see waterfalls, banyan trees, Yakuzaru monkeys, and Yakujika deer. At Yakusugi Land, I saw and touched the ancient cedar trees and took photos… is it about half the size of Jomon Sugi? I heard that you can only see Jomon Sugi from 20 meters away, but this place was even better.

There were various shapes of cedar trees, like the Edo period stump, the tunnel cedar, the twin cedar, and the Buddha cedar, all surrounded by beautiful moss, making for a leisurely and enjoyable stroll.

The guide was also a fun person, providing detailed explanations and guidance, making it a fantastic trip.

たまたまなのか？　10人乗りの位の車に5人参加、しっかりとデスダンス取れてました、

滝、ガジュマル、ヤクザル、ヤクジカにも会えました
ヤクスギランドでは紀元杉を見て、触って、写真も撮り…縄文杉の半分位？とか？　
縄文杉は20m離れてしか見れないと聞きましたがこちらの方が最高、
江戸時代の切り株とか、くぐり杉、双子杉、仏陀杉〜色々な形の杉が　綺麗な苔も有り　ゆっくりと散策出来て楽しかったです

ガイドさんも楽しい方で、丁寧な説明、案内、最高の旅が出来ました

The rental items were smelly, worn out, and old. The rental items from other participants were not this old. On top of that, the rain gear smelled as soon as I opened it. I really wish it was better. Honestly, it deserves ★1, but the elderly guide was wonderful, so I’m giving it ★5 as a special exception. You should rent items separately.

レンタル品は臭いしボロいし古い。

I have some experience with hiking in low mountains, but this was my first time going over 1000 meters, so I joined a tour. It was my long-awaited Jomon Sugi trekking, but I was a bit worried about participating alone. However, the members of the tour group were either families or solo travelers of the same gender, so I was able to start with peace of mind.

I really appreciated the shuttle service to the accommodation. I had planned to pick up a rental car near the airport, and they kindly changed the drop-off location for me.

Regarding the trekking, I think it can be challenging to match the pace of the group when the age range is varied, but in the end, it was great that everyone was able to reach the summit, and it was within an acceptable range.

I also received helpful advice for the next day's hike, which I was very grateful for, and thanks to that, I was able to reach the summit the following day as well.

I was really looking forward to the Yakuzaru bus that goes around the island since I can't drive. With a regular bus, you often have to walk uphill for a while even after you arrive at the stop, so the tour was very convenient. Unfortunately, it was a remote island day, so we only had the morning without lunch, but I would like to visit Yakusugi Land next time! On another day, I had flying fish at the Furusato Market, and it was crispy and delicious. Some other sites didn't have the Yakuzaru bus available, so I was glad I could make a reservation with VELTRA.

I was worried about whether we would make it safely, but our guide clearly explained the route, and we were able to reach Jomon Sugi smoothly!

The guide provided detailed instructions on how to walk, areas that required caution, and information about restrooms, making it accessible even for beginners.

For lunch, we were served miso soup, and at the rest area, we enjoyed warm sweet drinks, which gave us a boost of energy for the return journey! The guide also explained the history and various plants, and took many wonderful photos, so I truly felt it was a great decision to join a guided tour!

In addition to the Jomon Sugi trekking, the guide shared recommendations for souvenir shops and other places to visit, and was very approachable, making for an excellent experience.

We trekked with just the two of us and one guide instead of a group, and since the guide adjusted to our pace, it felt like a private tour, which I highly recommend!

お昼にはお味噌汁、休憩場所では暖かい甘い飲み物を提供してくれたので、帰り道に向けてパワーを貰えました！歴史や色んな植物などの事も説明してくれて、たくさん素敵な写真を撮ってくれたので、ガイドさん付きのツアーをお願いして本当によかったなと思いました！

縄文杉トレッキング以外にも、お土産やさんやおすすめのお店やさん、スポットも教えてくれて、話しやすくてとても良いガイドさんでした。

There were some unexpectedly steep paths, and since it was a long journey, I was worried about my legs. However, the guide taught us how to climb and descend in a way that minimized strain on our legs, which I think helped conserve our energy.

I was surprised when I was told that we would have breakfast after walking a bit, even though other groups had already eaten before setting out. However, by moving ahead, we were able to reach the scenic viewpoint before it got crowded, and I was really happy to take photos at a leisurely pace.

The guide shared various stories about the history of Yakushima, which was very educational.

It was a lot of fun, and I want to go again.

思った以上に険しい道があったりして、長時間の道のりなので足が心配でしたが、ガイドさんが足に負担のかからない登り方、下り方を教えてくださり、体力の消耗が最小限にできたと思います。
他のグループが朝ごはん食べてから出発していたのに、朝ごはんは少し歩いてから食べると言われた時は驚きましたが、先に進むことで、混む前に絶景ポイントに行って、ゆっくり写真を撮ることができたので、すごく嬉しかったです。
屋久島の歴史から、色々なことをガイドさんがお話ししてくれ、とても勉強になりました。
楽しかったです、また行きたいです。

I walked for a total of 10 hours round trip. That said, we took quite a few breaks and had lunch, so I guess I was actually walking for just a little over 8 hours? Fortunately, it was sunny, so it felt really nice, and I was able to enjoy the scenery while seeing many Yakusugi trees. Most of the path is a flat trolley road, and even after we started climbing, it wasn't a steep mountain trail, so it's basically not too difficult. However, the distance is long, so it can be tiring, haha. I used trekking poles for the first time, and thanks to them, the strain on my legs was significantly reduced. So I definitely recommend using trekking poles. You should consider buying them in advance and bringing them along.

You can't get too close to Jomon Sugi, but you can experience its majestic atmosphere, and there are many large Yakusugi trees along the way. It's an early morning start, and it really is tiring for a long time, but I thought that if you come to Yakushima, you have to visit Jomon Sugi!

往復10時間歩きました。といっても途中休憩や昼食の時間も結構とってくれたので、実質歩いてるのは8時間ちょっとくらいでしょうか？運良く晴れてたので、とても気持ち良く、景色を眺めながら、たくさんの屋久杉を見ながら歩けました。道中のほとんどが平坦なトロッコ道ですし、登りに入ってからも急な山道というわけではなく基本的に大変ではないのですが、とにかく距離が長いので、疲れます笑 ストックを初めて使いましたがこれのおかげで足への負担は相当減りました。なのでストックおすすめです。事前に買ってでも持っていくべきかと。
縄文杉は近くまで行けませんが、雄大な雰囲気を味わえますし、途中にたくさんの大きな屋久杉があります。早朝スタートですし本当に長時間疲れますが、やはり屋久島に来たら縄文杉には行かないと！と思いました。

On the day of the event, our guide picked us up at 4:30 AM near Awa Port. It took about 40 minutes by bus to the meeting point, so I took a nap during the ride and arrived at the trailhead. Most of the group had breakfast on-site, but our group introduced ourselves and set off right away. We walked along the trolley tracks without masks, as it was said that natural cedar releases disinfectant components, and we aimed for Jomon Sugi while climbing rocks and taking breaks along the way. After about five hours of hiking, we took a lunch break, but instead of eating my bento, I replenished myself with candies, chocolate, and nutritional supplements. The guide instructed us to leave our backpacks, except for valuables, at the lunch spot, so we headed towards Jomon Sugi with lighter loads. Finally, we had the emotional moment of meeting Jomon Sugi. After taking commemorative photos and soaking in the atmosphere, we began our descent. The return journey was tougher than the way up, and the guide shared walking techniques for the dangerous sections. I felt that each guide brought their own personality to the tour. My guide boiled water at the rest area and served miso soup, and during the descent, he helped ice my feet in the river and massaged my legs and shoulders. It was a tiring yet fulfilling 13-hour round trip. I am grateful to the members who encouraged me and to the guide.

イベント事は晴れれば9割成功の言葉通り晴天に恵まれ人生最高の経験が出来ました。当日は4時半に安房港近くの民宿までガイドさんが迎えに来て下さいました。集合場所からバスで40分かかるので走行中に仮眠を取り登山口に到着。その場で朝食を摂る班がほとんどでしたが、我が班は自己紹介してすぐに出発。天然杉から消毒効果のある成分が発散されるとの事で、マスクを付けずにトロッコ線路の上を歩いて山道、岩登りして、途中休憩取りながら縄文杉を目指しました。出発して5時間位して昼食休憩でしたが、私は弁当を食べずにアメやチョコ、栄養剤を補給しました。ガイドさんから昼食場で貴重品以外リックを置いて下さいと指示があり、身軽な格好で縄文杉を目指しました。そして縄文杉との感動のご対面。記念撮影をして余韻に浸りながら下山、山道は行きよりも帰りが辛く、危険な箇所はガイドさんの歩き方テクニックを伝授して頂きました。このツアーはガイドさんそれぞれの個性が出ると思いました。私のガイドさんは休憩所でお湯を沸かして味噌汁を振る舞い、下山途中の川で足をアイシングして足や肩をマッサージしてくれる方でした。くたくたになりながらしかし達成感のある往復13時間の一日でした。励ましてくれたメンバーに感謝、ガイドさんに感謝です。

I was a bit anxious about participating alone as a woman, but on the day of the event, I had a great time trekking with the guide and others from different groups! We talked about Yakushima, shared stories, and even included some quizzes, making it a fun experience from start to finish.

And the breathtaking view from Taiko Rock! I will never forget it. I fell in love with Yakushima, a place that makes you want to take deep breaths all the time. Thank you for the wonderful time! I will definitely come back!

It was a tough plan to visit Jomon Sugi and Shiratani Unsuikyo in one day, requiring a bit of stamina. However, we were blessed with an amazing guide, and we were able to reach our destination while having fun along the way. Everyone made it back safely without anyone missing, making it a wonderful summer memory.

The view from Taiko Rock was captivating and brought me to tears... It's a sight you definitely should see at least once! (Though it does depend on the weather.)

Trekking is inevitably affected by the weather, and there was a point where we had to cross a river, but due to the heavy rain, the current was fast, making it very dangerous to cross. The guide decided to wait for over an hour for safety. Indeed, crossing the river in such a fast current is extremely dangerous, and the guide coordinated with other group tour guides to prioritize safety.

The first three hours of trekking went smoothly, with beautiful scenery and thorough explanations from our guide, making it an enjoyable experience. However, as initially planned, the rain clouds rolled in, and all participants donned their rain gear as we continued on to the end of the trolley path. After waiting for about 20 minutes there, the guide informed us that the rain had developed unusually this year, and although we were in the middle of the trek, we would need to return (cancel). While I felt disappointed, I believe it was the right decision considering the recent nationwide accident situations.

On the way back, the calm river was now turbulent, the trolley path was filled with water, and the small spring area was pouring down like a waterfall. I could feel the natural threat up close as the scenery changed 180 degrees from the way in. 一日目は当日から雨が予想されておりましたが、実行可能な範囲だと判断があり実行をしました。
トレッキングが始まって最初の３時間は問題なくキレイな景色や丁寧なガイドさんの説明もあり楽しく進めることができました。
しかし当初の予定通り雨雲がかかってきて参加者全員雨具を着用して進んでいき、トロッコ道の終わりまで到着しました。そこで２０分ほど待っていた後にガイドさんから今回の雨が例年にないほど発達をし途中ではあるが帰宅（中止）になることを伝えられました。
残念な気持ちがありましたが、昨今の全国的な事故状況を省みると正しい判断だと思います。
帰り道は行きとは違い穏やかな川はうねりをあげ、トロッコ道は水で満たされ、小さかった湧き水エリアは滝のように降り注いできており、行き帰りで１８０度変わった景色に自然の脅威を間近で感じることができました。
途中手摺がない橋を渡るポイントがありましたが、そのいずれも落ちたら命がなくなるのが一目瞭然であり、恐怖もありましたがガイドさんが丁寧にフォローをしていただいたので安心して下山できました。
ガイドさんもいっていましたが引き返す判断をすること（出来る）ことが大事だと思います。
そこを第一に考えてくれたので縄文杉は見れませんでしたが不満はなく逆に自然の二面性を見ることができとても満足した初日でした。

二日目は前日とうってかわって天気に恵まれて快晴でした。ガイドさんは前日と別の人でしたが細かい部分も丁寧に教えていただけたので良かったです。太鼓岩まで無事到着し、疲れもありましたがその分達成感を感じることができました。是非一度自分の足で登って味わってほしい景色が広がっています！

トータルでいうと非常に満足しました。

ただし、ツアー費用とは別に、個人で用意する現金がいくらか必要になるので、参加される際には、屋久島に入る前に多めに用意する必要があります。参考にしてください。

I set out for Jomon Sugi at 5 AM and it took about 7 hours to get there! Even though it was mid-August and the temperatures were high, it was cool during the trek due to the elevation and the breeze. I hiked without wearing a mask.

I went specifically to see Jomon Sugi, but the breathtaking view from Taiko Rock that I visited along the way is something I will never forget! The stories and games shared by our guide, Tsugimaki, were very interesting, and I enjoyed the long hike without getting bored until the very end!

朝5時から約7時間かけて縄文杉へ行きました！8月の中旬で気温は高かったのですが、トレッキング時は標高もあって風も抜けるので涼しかったです☺️登山中はマスク着用無しで登ってます。

On the second day, although there was a rain forecast for Shiratani Unsuikyo, we didn't get caught in the rain and were able to enjoy walking while taking lots of photos and videos. We were lucky to see both Yakushima deer and Yakushima macaques.

For those who are not used to exercising, I recommend Shiratani Unsuikyo, but since you're in Yakushima, I definitely think you should see Jomon Sugi as well!

長距離のトレッキングはなかなかしんどいですが、一生の思い出になりました！
