I've loved mountains for a long time, and in my 40s and 50s, I climbed high-altitude peaks. With the pandemic, I suddenly found myself in my 60s... Then I got an invitation to Yakushima, and I decided that if I was going, I had to do the Jomon Sugi trekking! The guide and I formed a group of four. I thought the pace was faster than I expected. But I pushed myself to keep up because if we didn't, we wouldn't make it back in time. The excitement upon reaching Jomon Sugi was incredible, and I felt it was worth coming. On the way back, I silently endured and kept walking. When we reached the trailhead, I high-fived the guide! I praised myself for doing a great job. The sense of accomplishment was 120% greater than the fatigue. Thank you for taking care of us!

前から山は大好きで、40〜50代は標高の高い山に登ってた。コロナがあって気がつくと60代に突入してた…で、屋久島行きの誘いがあり、行くなら縄文杉トレッキングでしょ！と自分から決めた。ガイドさんは私を含め4人グループで行動した。自分が思ってたよりペースが早いと思った。でもこれくらいでないと帰りに時間に間に合わないからの仕方がないと頑張って歩いた。縄文杉到着の感動は最高で、来て良かったと思った。帰りもひたすら耐えながら黙々と歩いた。登山口に着いてガイドさんとハイタッチ！自分にもよく頑張ったね〜と褒めまくった。疲れよりも達成感120%。お世話になり、ありがとうございました。

My first time in Yakushima, and the trekking route to Jomon Sugi was wilder than I had heard, providing a great sense of accomplishment, but my thighs were sore. Out of the 22 kilometers round trip, 17 kilometers were on a cart path, which felt a bit long, but then it suddenly turned into a wild trail. I thought it might be a bit challenging for elderly participants. I believe it would be helpful if the tour details included more information about this aspect for those considering joining.

As a foreigner, I can't have a Japanese phone number. The staff confirmed my reservation for when I arrive in Yakushima. I felt relieved.

On the day of departure, it rained, heavily rained, and it was really pouring, but I had fun!

Everyone was in separate groups, with participants ranging from 2 to 8 and one kite.

There was a break in the middle. The first stage was normal, but the second stage was intense!

It was a lot of fun and became a great memory! The air was clean and refreshing. On the way there, the weather was clear and I enjoyed the scenery, but on the way back it rained, and feeling tired, I kept my head down and descended quietly. The temperature was just right. I was fortunate to have a great guide, making it a memorable trip.

The ferry was canceled, and I had to change my plans at the last minute. Thank you for your assistance.

I was worried about whether I could walk the distance since I usually don't exercise, but thanks to the experienced guide, I was able to reach Jomon Sugi safely. The emotion and sense of accomplishment I felt when looking up at Jomon Sugi was an incredible experience!

I lacked stamina and was hesitant to participate, but I'm really glad I did!

The day before, I went to Shiratani Unsuikyo without a guide, but even if I go again in a few years, I would definitely want to join a tour because having a guide made a significant difference.

With a guide, the pacing is different, making it less tiring, and they adjusted breaks based on the weather. I learned about the mysterious workings of the forest that I wouldn't have noticed on my own. Interacting with others was also a great memory.

Additionally, since I couldn't rent a car, the bus transportation and lunch arrangements were very much appreciated.

If I have friends aiming for Jomon Sugi, I would recommend the tour. (I'm not affiliated with them, just saying!)

体力もなく、参加すら迷っていたのですが、本当に参加して良かったです！

前日にガイドさんなしで白谷雲水峡に行きましたが、また何年後かに行くとしてもやはりツアーで参加したいと思うほどガイドさんのあるなしは違いました。

ガイドさんがいらっしゃるとペース配分が違うので疲れにくいし、天気を見て休憩を早めたりしてくださったり、自分では気付けない森の神秘的な仕組みを知ることができました。
他の方との交流も良い思い出です。

また、レンタカーが借りられなかったので、バスでの送迎やお弁当の手配もとてもありがたかったです。

もし個人で縄文杉を目指す友達がいたら、私はツアーをオススメします。(回し者ではないです笑)

We participated as a couple in our fifties along with our middle school son. Thank you to the microbus driver who picked us up in front of our accommodation at 4:30 AM and safely drove us to the trailhead, and then back to the accommodation.

During the tour, our guide, Mr. Mitsuhashi, provided detailed information about walking speed, the order of walking, scenic points, the abundant plants around us, and the formation of Yakushima. At the photo points, he took many wonderful pictures, allowing us to create lasting memories and beautiful photos from our Jomon Sugi hike.

I was glad to have a brief conversation with the two men in our group who walked with us.

Thanks to this experience, we received a lot of energy from Yakushima's great nature and the encounters during the tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Yakushima.

Once again, I sincerely thank everyone who helped make our wonderful Yakushima trip possible. Thank you very much.

P.S. I requested a rental for hiking shoes at the last minute during the confirmation the day before the tour (I had my own hiking shoes but had become careless, and since I hadn't worn them in a while, the soles had worn out). I visited Yakushima in mid-March for my university graduation trip. There were nine of us in our 20s, consisting of six men and three women. Among us, there were some beginners in trekking.

**Walking the Trolley Road**
In the dim light, we had a meal at the trailhead before setting off. We first walked quietly along the trolley road. According to our guide, Tsugimura, since there were many tour participants today, we would skip the explanations on the way there and proceed quietly. We walked on, with the beautiful morning glow behind us.

**Entering the Real Mountain Trail**
Around 9:00 AM, the flat trolley road ended, and we arrived at the entrance to the Okubo Trail. We took a bathroom break here before starting our ascent. At the Okubo Trail entrance, Tsugimura shared tips on how to take good photos of the waterfall with an iPhone. Once we entered the mountain trail, we spotted Yakusugi trees over a thousand years old here and there. There were various types of cedars, each with its own character. It seems that the cedars are likened to animals and other things, such as dragons, turtles, penguins, couples, and tuna… There were even some uniquely named cedars by Tsugimura!

**Arriving at Jomon Sugi**
Around 11:00 AM, we finally arrived at Jomon Sugi! I was overwhelmed by its majestic presence. All the fatigue from the trek vanished. We took photos together and after a short break and some exploration, we began our descent. A little way down, we had lunch. The pork miso soup that Tsugimura provided was soothing after our exertion.

**Descending as a Team**
From here, we frequently encountered people ascending, so we took turns yielding the path. There were moments during the descent that felt a bit scary, but we encouraged each other and helped one another along the way. Although there were times when our progress was slow, we remained calm and prioritized safety. Somehow, we managed to return to the Okubo Trail entrance.

**Monkeys and Deer Up Close**
After finishing the real mountain trail, we entered the return trolley road. Along the way, we encountered a Yakushima macaque right in front of us. After a while, we also spotted a Yakushima deer. Perhaps accustomed to tourists, both the monkeys and deer didn’t show much inclination to run away, allowing us to observe them closely. If you're lucky, you might see them too…!?

**Quiz Contest on the Trolley Road - The Finale**
Here, a quiz contest led by Tsugimura began. The topics included sea turtle quizzes related to Yakushima and quizzes about capital cities. After walking for two hours on the trolley road, we finally reached the finale around 4:00 PM. Great job, everyone! ■黙々と歩くトロッコ道
薄暗い中、登山口で腹ごしらえをして出発です。まずはトロッコ道を黙々と歩きました。ガイドの津曲さんによると、本日はツアー客が多いので、行きは解説などは省略気味とし、黙々と進むようです。美しい朝焼けを背にどんどん歩きます。

■いよいよ本格的な登山道へ
9:00頃、平坦なトロッコ道が終わり大株歩道入口に到着。ここでトイレ休憩を挟み、登山が始まります。大株歩道入口では津曲さんに「滝をi phoneでうまく撮るコツ」を伝授してもらえます。登山道に入ると、樹齢1000年を超える屋久杉がちらほらと。いろんな杉が見えますが、どれも個性的。どうやら杉を動物などになぞらえるようです。龍、亀、ペンギン、夫婦、マグロ…と色々います。中には津曲さん独自の命名杉も…!

■縄文杉に到着
11:00頃、いよいよ縄文杉に到着です！その堂々たる存在感に圧倒されました。これまでの疲れが吹き飛びます。みんなで写真を撮り、少し休憩&散策した後、下山開始です。少し降りたところで昼食タイム。津曲さんに頂いた豚汁が疲れた身に沁みます。

■チーム一丸となって下山
ここからは登りの人とすれ違うことが多いので、道を譲り合います。下山では恐怖を感じるところもありましたが、お互いに励まし合い、手を取り合いながら進みます。どうしても進みが遅いところがありましたが、決して焦らず、安全第一で行きます。なんとか、大株歩道入口に戻って来れました。

■猿と鹿がすぐそばに
本格的な登山道が終わり、帰りのトロッコ道に入ります。途中、目と鼻の先にヤクシマザルが現れました。しばらくするとヤクシカも見ることができました。観光客に慣れているのか、猿も鹿もあまり逃げるそぶりを見せず、じっくりと観察できます。運が良ければ見ることができるかも…!?

■トロッコ道でのクイズ大会〜ゴール
ここで、津曲さんによるクイズ大会が始まりました。題材は屋久島にちなんだウミガメクイズや、首都当て知識クイズなど。形式は9人順番に答えるものや、早押し形式があります。放課後の下校で友達とワイワイしているような雰囲気でした。トロッコ道を歩き続けて2時間、16:00頃にようやくフィナーレです。お疲れ様でした！ツアー後は、津曲さんが撮った写真や動画を、なんと編集付きで送ってくださいます。

■まとめ
トレッキングに慣れていない私たちでも、楽しく安全に屋久島のことを学べました。ガイドの方々はあの手この手で楽しませてくれます。津曲さんを含めて、10人で一緒に縄文杉を見に行った気分です。「また屋久島に行きたい。」と思わせるツアーでした。大満足です！最高の思い出をありがとうございました！

My companion got injured partway through and had to descend, but the guide kindly accompanied us down, which was a great help. (Fortunately, the injury was minor.) Perhaps because we avoided the busy times, we encountered a group of Yakushima macaques and Yakushima deer at the village ruins! Although we didn't reach the summit, we thoroughly enjoyed the nature of Yakushima.

連れが途中で怪我をして下山することになりましたが、ガイドさんがフォローのため一緒に下山してくださり大変助かりました。

I have previously cycled around both Lake Biwa and Awaji Island, and I believe that those who have completed these rides should have no significant physical issues with the Jomon Sugi tour. The guide provides appropriate breaks and explanations of the sights along the way, so you can consider it comparable to a cycling event that is about 100 km long with a decent elevation gain.

However, if you usually only exercise on a road bike, please be cautious on the return from Jomon Sugi. On a road bike, you typically ride on paved roads, so as long as you are straddling and braking properly on descents, you should be fine. But on the Jomon Sugi tour, you will need to descend rocky areas and stairs on foot, which puts significant strain on your ankles, knees, and hips for about four hours. (I experienced pain on the outside of my knee, which I believe is what is referred to as runner's knee.)

As a precaution, I recommend strengthening your core and using trekking poles to find a descent method that minimizes strain on your body before participating in the tour. I used trekking poles for the first time on the day of the tour, but since I wasn't accustomed to them, there were moments when they actually added to my burden.

Regarding meals, I requested two bento boxes (two rice balls, fried chicken, sausage, fish, and pickles) as part of the tour options for breakfast and lunch. The contents were almost the same for both meals. In addition to the bento, I brought two pieces of bite-sized yokan, received some salt candies and gummies from other participants, and had oral rehydration gel to prevent muscle cramps, which may have been more than I needed.

For those who have cycled for ten hours in a day, I think less food than that would be sufficient. As for drinks, I brought two 600 ml bottles of barley tea, but I ended up only needing one and refilled with spring water along the way, making one bottle completely unnecessary.

In early March, the estimated temperature around Jomon Sugi was in the low single digits, with cloudy weather and occasional rain, including some hail. Depending on the season, hydration needs can vary greatly, so if you find that spring water is sufficient, you might consider refilling along the way to reduce your load.

Regarding restroom facilities, I took care of my needs before departure and sipped water every few minutes, which was enough to make it to the toilets set up along the route. This can vary greatly depending on the season and individual needs, so please use this as a reference. Just in case, I brought one portable toilet for emergencies and five portable urinals I bought at a 100 yen shop, but I brought too many urinals.

自分は過去にロードバイクで琵琶湖、淡路島共に一周の経験がありますが、縄文杉ツアーはビワイチ、アワイチをこなせた方は体力的にはほぼ問題無いかと思います。
ガイドさんによる適度な休憩、道中の見所の説明等があるので、１００km程度で、それなりの獲得標高になる〇〇ロングライドと名前の付く自転車イベントと同等程度と考えていいでしょう。
ただ普段の運動がロードバイクのみという方は、縄文杉からの帰りには気を付けて下さい。
ロードバイクだと基本舗装路の為、下りは跨がって、適切にブレーキをかけていれば何とかなりますが、縄文杉ツアーの場合、岩場や階段を自分の足で降りるという行為が発生します。
どういう事かというと、ロードバイクの下りではほとんど問題無い足首、膝、股関節に非常に負荷がかかる状況が約４時間続く事となります。(自分は膝の外側に痛みが出てしまいました。おそらくランナー膝と呼ばれるものだと思います)
対策としては、体幹を鍛える、トレッキングポールを使用する等、体に負担のかからない自分に合った段差の下り方を、ツアー参加前に試して見たほうがいいかと思います。
トレッキングポールを当日初めて自分は使いましたが、使い慣れていないせいで、かえって負担になる場面もあったように思います。
あと食事についてですが、自分はツアーのオプションで朝昼のお弁当(おにぎり２個、からあげ、ウインナー、魚、漬物)２食分をお願いしました。(朝昼共内容はほぼ同じ)
お弁当プラス持参した一口羊羹２個、他の参加者の方から頂いた塩飴、グミと、筋肉の攣り対策の為持っていった経口補水ゼリーで自分は少し補給が多かったかもという感じでした。
自転車で一日十時間走った事がある方は、その時より少な目の補給食で十分かと思います。
また飲み物ですが、600mlのペットボトルの麦茶を二本持って行きましたが、結局一本と道中で湧き水を一本分補給した程度で十分間に合い、一本は完全にデッドウェイトとなってしまいました。
3月上旬、縄文杉あたりの気温推定一桁前半、曇時々雨、途中あられという天候でしたが、季節によって水分補給の状況は大きく変わるかと思いますが、湧き水で十分な方は道中で給水し、荷物の負荷を少しでも減らす事を検討してもいいかもしれません。
その他トイレ事情ですが、出発前に大を済ませ、道中の給水を一口ずつ、数十分おきでしていましたが、それで道中に設置されているトイレで十分間に合いました。
季節や個人差が大きいものなので参考程度にして下さい。
念の為、簡易トイレ用の携帯トイレ一つ、１００円ショップで買った小便用の携帯トイレ五つ持って行きましたが、小便用は持っていき過ぎでした。

長々と書かせて頂きましたが、参加しようと思っている方の参考になれば幸いかと思います。

Although it’s a 10-hour round trip trekking course, the first half on the trolley path is flat, so I think it’s not a problem even for those who don’t usually exercise, as long as they have some walking habit. The second half has steep stairs and rocky areas, but many people of all ages are climbing, so you don’t need to feel too pressured. Most places on the island can arrange breakfast and lunch bento, so there’s no need to worry. The Jomon Sugi, which I reached after a tough journey, was breathtakingly beautiful, and it became a wonderful experience that changed my perspective on life. We were picked up at 8:30 AM at our accommodation in Yakushima, despite the heavy rain warning, and headed to Shiratani Unsuikyo with our guide and my friend, making a group of three. The rain lightened up along the way, and by the time we arrived, it was manageable without an umbrella. Although we could only walk about one-third of the course today, it was originally a half-day course, so we were able to take our time and enjoy the explanations. The rain had increased the water flow, making it quite impressive, and the green moss was very beautiful. Our guide was kind and it was a great experience.

屋久島が大雨警報の中、宿に８時３０分迎えに来ていただき、ガイドさんと私、友人と３人で白谷雲水峡へ向かいました。

I had wanted to see Jomon Sugi in Yakushima for a long time. Last September, I decided to go in March of the following year and researched various options, booking round-trip flights, accommodations, and a tour. Finally, the long-awaited trip to Yakushima began. I arrived on the evening of March 3rd.

On March 4th, I woke up at 3 AM and took the bus at 4:01 AM. After having breakfast and using the restroom at the Arakawa trailhead, we set off at 5:50 AM, starting our hike while it was still dark. We walked 8.5 km along the tramway, took our last restroom break, and then tackled the challenging 2.5 km stretch, managing to get through the heart-pounding stairs as well.

We arrived at Jomon Sugi at 11:05 AM without any issues. The lunch we had at the hut above Jomon Sugi was incredibly delicious. The guide took many photos for us, and we returned to the trailhead almost on schedule, arriving at 4:05 PM. My calves and thighs were sore, but I was truly happy that my dream had come true. Thank you very much to the guide for everything.

荒川登山口で朝食、トイレを済ませ５時５０分出発、まだ暗いうちから歩き始めました。トロッコ道を8.5km進み、最後のトイレ休憩を済ませ、難関の2.5kmを一所懸命歩き、心臓破りの階段もなんとかクリアしました。
そして縄文杉に午前１１時５分、無事に到着しました。
縄文杉の上の小屋でのお弁当は最幸に美味しかったです。
ガイドさんが何枚も写真撮影をしてくださり、帰りもほぼ予定通り４時５分登山口へ到着、ふくらはぎも太もももパンパンになりましたが、夢が叶えられて本当に良かったです。

The weather was bad, so I participated wearing a rental raincoat from the beginning. When I checked the size at the airport during the handover, I was worried because the raincoat seemed a bit off compared to the shoes, but both the shoes and the raincoat fit perfectly and were clean. On the contrary, they fit so well that I wondered how I would change clothes along the way since they seemed too tight to wear over regular pants. The backpack felt somewhat worn out.

I ended up sweating more than I expected, so if you're concerned about that, it might be better to bring your own raincoat.

The guide's pacing was excellent, switching between moving quickly and taking breaks to chat, which made it so I didn't feel too tired (though I felt exhausted once I got back to the hotel, haha). They took many wonderful photos that were as good as those taken by a professional photographer, leaving me with great memories.

We had lunch at a resting area near Jomon Sugi with a roof, and despite the heavy bags, they brought hot water and instant cocoa, which tasted really good.

Even as a solo participant, I was able to bond with the other members climbing together, which I think is a wonderful aspect of this tour. Jomon Sugi was divine and moving, but every view along the way was beautiful and left a lasting impression on me. I'm glad I participated. It was a challenging journey, but I hope to join again if I can. Thank you very much.

天候が悪く、最初からレンタルのレインコートを上下着て参加しました。
受け渡しの空港でサイズ確認をした際に、シューズに比べてレインコートは適当だったので不安だったのですが、靴もレインコートもぴったりで清潔でよかったです。逆にぴったりすぎて、普通のズボンの上からは履けなそうだし、途中で着替える時はどうするんだろうと疑問に思いました。バックパックは割と使い古された感はありました。
思った以上に汗をかくので、気になる方はレインコートは持参した方がいいのかもしれません。

ガイドの方のペース配分が、黙々と一気に進んだり、休憩して談笑したりする切り替えが絶妙で、全く疲れないわけではないですが、疲れを感じにくかったです。（ホテルに帰ってから疲れが襲ってきましたｗ）
プロカメラマン並みの素敵な写真もたくさん撮ってくださっていい思い出を残すことができました。
縄文杉近くの屋根がある休憩所でお昼を食べたのですが、重い荷物にも関わらず、お湯とインスタントのココアを持ってきてくださっていて、それがとても美味しく感じました。

一人参加でもいつの間にか一緒に上るメンバーと打ち解けることができるので、それもこのツアーの素敵なところだと思います。
縄文杉も神々しくて感動したのですが、道中のどの景色を切り取っても美しくてずっと胸打たれていました。

Most of the tour was rainy, but despite that, our guide was very attentive and we were able to enjoy seeing Jomon Sugi and other sights. I had heard that the weather can change quickly, so I was glad to join this tour rather than going on my own. Additionally, it was great that the guide introduced us to not only famous spots but also points that aren't listed in guidebooks, and shared information about Yakushima's history as well.

We gathered early in the morning, but we were able to sleep in the car during the shuttle ride to the trailhead. The guide led us while considering the timing for breaks and our walking speed. They provided explanations at each landmark and took many photos for us.

Once we entered the genuine mountain path, the surface was paved, but the steep gradients were intense. There were places where we had to climb over rocks, so gloves or work gloves are essential. The Jomon Sugi that we reached after our efforts was breathtaking. We also received a lot of negative ions.

I was very happy that the guide prepared cushions for us and provided warm drinks during lunch. The explanations of the spots along the way were also very detailed and wonderful. Thank you very much.

Now, to the main point. I am 59 years old and will soon be 60. I felt uncomfortable because it seemed that the guide was wary of my age, thinking I might retire or cause trouble. Although I may not look it, I have backpacked through 61 countries and have even climbed to the top of Mount Fuji. I always participate in hiking and mountain climbing abroad. Early in the tour, the guide mentioned to the group as a whole, "If I feel this person cannot make it to the top, they will retire." I was told this directly, and others felt the same way. I thought it would have been better if the guide had just told me directly if they thought I couldn't climb. I know that in climbing, the slower people go ahead, but it felt like they were judging me solely based on my age, creating an atmosphere that suggested I would be slow and unable to keep up, which really brought my spirits down before we even started climbing.

1. When I climbed the steep shortcut path on the trolley road and was out of breath, the guide said, "If you're out of breath from this, you won't make it to the top." The guide also made comments to an older man, saying, "You're born in the year of the horse, right?" and "I share the same zodiac." 特に気になった点は

①トロッコ道で近道3分の険しい道を上がったとき私は上がり終わってフーフー言っていたら、「こんなので息があがってしまうのであれば上まで無理」ってガイドさんに言われました。無理ですでもなく無理って吐き捨てるように言われ気持ちが本当に折れた瞬間でした。この時私は絶対にガイドさんのスピードに遅れないでみんなに迷惑をかけず、縄文杉を見て下まで降りてやると心に決めました。ここで、もし、「よく頑張りました。もっと厳しいところがあるけどこの調子で頑張ってください」と言っていただければ「はい頑張ります、ガイドさんについていきますのでご指導お願いします」ということをガイドさんに言えたと思います。

②私のいないところでガイドさんの後ろから他の女性が「このツアー年齢制限あるんですか？」と聞いたところ私がたずねたと勘違いして「あと1歳」といわれました。みなさんこの会話を聞いていらっしゃいました。個人情報を他の参加者の前で勝手に公開するのはガイドとしていかがなものでしょうか？縄文杉のツアーでは個人情報は出しても大丈夫なのでしょうか？他の年配の男の人にも「〇〇さんは午年ですね？」「私も同じ干支なんですよ」と若いアピールをされていました。（自分の年齢を言って若いと言われたいだけですよね）こちらでは個人情報の管理は守られいないということを感じました。個人情報は絶対に言ってはいけないというのは社会の常識です。更に帰宅後再確認しましたがこのツアーの年齢制限は2項目（・10歳以上・18歳以下は保護者同伴）のみで60歳以上不可ということはどこにも明記されていませんでした。最悪のツアーだったので、本当に最初から私のことを年齢が心配だからと言ってツアーに入るのを断っていただきたかった。私はもう一つのおじいさんのガイドさんのグループに入れてもらいたかったです。ガイドさんが言われたので今後、必ずこのツアーの制限年齢を60歳までと明記してくださいね。
時間の制限のある中メンバーを目的地に案内して戻ってこなくてはいけないガイドはプレッシャーがかかる仕事だと思います。ただ、こちらにそういう心配が見えてしまうのは残念です。本当に本当に10時間ずっと不愉快でした。なぜならほとんどの参加者は初めは「楽しみ」「わくわく」感をもって参加しているからです。そのことを今一度認識していただきたいと思います。

I believe the biggest advantage of joining a tour is that you can "focus on walking." There are quite a few paths without handrails and slippery areas, but thanks to the tour guide's constant reminders, I was able to concentrate on trekking with peace of mind. I think solo trekking is better after you've done it at least twice.

I participated in this tour from Yakushima Airport. I was worried about whether I would make it on time since there wasn't much time between the arrival of my flight and the meeting time for the tour, but the meeting place was easy to find, which was helpful.

At Yakusugi Land, you will be walking, but it's on well-maintained walking paths, so it's not really a mountain climb.

However, the road to Yakusugi Land is winding and located in the mountains, so those who are prone to motion sickness may need to take precautions.

屋久島空港からこのツアーに参加しました。
飛行機の空港着時刻からツアーの集合時間まで、間があまりなかったので間に合うか不安だったのですが、集合場所もわかりやすくて助かりました。

On the day of the trekking, we were blessed with clear weather, and we could see Mount Miyanoura along the way. A week prior, I received a message saying that it had snowed and that crampons might be necessary, which made me think I would have to give up on joining the tour. However, we ended up trekking 20 km round trip without needing crampons, achieving 42,000 steps and conquering the equivalent of 15 flights of stairs. We walked along the trolley path, captivated by the guide's stories, and saw the Sandaizuki and Wilson stump (which I wouldn't have known how to view from the right angle to see the heart shape without the guide). According to the guide, December is the off-season, so we had plenty of time to take photos at a leisurely pace. The Great King Cedar, the Couple Cedar, and the Jomon Cedar were all breathtaking. After enduring 7,500 years of wind, rain, and snow, they still looked quite healthy. Approaching my sixties, life may be on a downhill slope, but having met the Jomon Cedar, I feel I can continue to take one step at a time.

トレッキング当日はお天気に恵まれ快晴、途中宮之浦岳も見えました。一週間前に雪が降り、アイゼンが必要かもと連絡が来た時は、ツアー参加を断念かと思いましたが、アイゼン必要なく往復20kmのトレッキング、歩数42000歩を、15階分の階段を制覇できました。トロッコ道はガイドさんの話で飽きる事なく歩き、三代杉、ウィルソン株(これはガイドさんがいなければ、どの角度から見ればハート❤️になるのかわからなかった)。
ガイドさんにらよると、12月はオフシーズンでゆとりがあり、写真もゆっくり撮る事が出来ました。
大王杉、夫婦杉、そして縄文杉、圧巻でした。
7500年風雨、雪に耐えそこにいてくれる、まだまだ元気そうでした。還暦を迎えて人生下り坂ですが、縄文杉に会えてこれからも1歩ずつ進んでいけます。

I was very tired, but I'm glad I was able to reach Jomon Sugi safely. Among the trees that are over 1,000 years old, I could also feel the grand history of nature.

I participated without much knowledge, but the guide taught me various points of interest and about Yakushima, which was enjoyable.

I joined alone, but it was nice that the other members were also solo travelers and very kind.

I definitely want to visit in a different season as well. In winter, it's essential to prepare for the cold. There were several restrooms and natural springs, which was reassuring.

I participated in the Jomon Sugi trekking tour. I was a bit anxious about the round trip of 21 kilometers and the approximately 10-hour trek, but thanks to the tour guide, I was able to finish the tour really enjoyably and I am very satisfied. With careful advice, photo opportunities, self-deprecating jokes, and relatable stories from Yakushima, the guide helped create a wonderful memory, and I am truly grateful. I forgot to ask for the guide's name, but since he mentioned he was 55 years old, 1 year (male), and said he would continue climbing mountains for another 20 years, please send my regards to him.
