I had a decent level of confidence in my physical strength, but I was a bit anxious due to my age. However, I participated this time based on the reviews I read. Meeting the Jomon Sugi at the forefront was truly worth it. It became a lifelong memory. Since we were a senior team, I believe the guide's time management was the key to our success. Thank you!

The Jomon Sugi course is quite challenging, but with the help of an experienced guide, I was able to learn about the plants and recommended viewpoints during the trek. Even as a beginner in trekking, I quickly reached the Great Cedar. I was fortunate to have a wonderful guide and great members, making it an absolutely fantastic retreat. Thank you very much!

It was unusually clear in Yakushima, and our guide mentioned that it was the best day of the year. I had a more enjoyable round trip than I had imagined. Of course, the good weather helped me conserve my energy and spirit, but I believe the main reason was the brightness of our guide and everyone I walked with. It's hard to say since it's all about luck, but the members you walk with are important.
屋久島では珍しくピーカンで、ガイドさんから1年で1番いい日というお言葉をいただきました。
想像していたより楽しく往復できました。もちろん天気がよかったので体力気力を削られなかったというのもあると思いますが、1番はガイドさんと、一緒に歩いた皆さんの明るさのおかげだと思います。
運なのでなんとも言えませんが、一緒に歩くメンバーは大事です。

This was my first challenge in Yakushima. Before the tour started, I was informed about the time allocation for the round trip of 22 km, which allowed me to participate in the tour with a focused mindset. I was told by the guide that it was miraculous to have such clear weather on that day in the refreshing climate of April. I enjoyed the tour while happily chatting about Yakushima's history and the guide's overflowing love for Jomon Sugi. Thank you very much!
初屋久島で初挑戦。ツアー開始前に往復22kmのツアーで時間配分を教えて貰えたので、気を気を引き締めながらツアーに参加する事が出来ました。4月の爽やかな気候の中で当日のような快晴に恵まれるなんて奇跡的な事だとガイドの方に教えられながら、屋久島の歴史や縄文杉への溢れる愛情のあるお話など、楽しくお喋りをしながらツアーを楽しめました！どうもありがとうございました！

One of my friends who was supposed to join me had a problem with their leg. They told me that since I came to Yakushima, I should go ahead, so I signed up alone. Moreover, on that day, I was the only participant in the afternoon tour of Shiratani Unsuikyo Mossy Forest. It was just me and one guide, so I had a personal guide and photographer. They led me at my own pace, took many photos at the scenic spots, and I was able to hear explanations about the trees and moss in the forest, as well as various stories about Yakushima. Since I had to take a detour, it took two hours to go and an hour and a half to return. Taking photos along the way served as breaks.
The weather was such that not a single drop of rain fell, so the ground was dry and easy to walk on. In mid-April, the temperature was just warm enough to break a light sweat at times. I was enjoying myself, but honestly, while walking, I thought, "I have to walk this path again to get back." I might have even mentioned this to the guide. However, the return trip felt quicker, so it was all good.

The guide was very friendly and taught us a lot of things. Although it seemed like a path we could have taken without a tour, the explanations provided made it a truly moving experience. Around 13:30, we were taken to Awa, where we were able to see the Yakushima Nature Museum and the Jomon Sugi before catching our flight at 18:10.
とても気さくなガイドさんで、本当に色々なことを教えてくださいました。ツアーじゃなくても行けそうな道でしたが、説明があるからこそ、多くの感動がありました。13:30頃には安房に送っていただき、屋久島自然館や紀元杉を見て18:10の飛行機に乗ることができました。

I was very grateful to have someone come to pick me up at the hotel and prepare a bento for me. I appreciate the guide who made various adjustments to ensure we were on time. The expression "I was able to meet Jomon Sugi" feels just right. It was such a precious experience.

On March 20th, we participated in a tour led by Sasaki with a total of seven people.
I usually work in an office and am a beginner at mountain climbing, so I was worried about my stamina before the tour. However, thanks to Sasaki's pacing with breaks and lending us shoe spikes when the snow made the path slippery, we were able to reach our destination safely without any injuries.
Throughout the tour, I honestly struggled to keep up rather than fully enjoying nature, but the entire experience, including the journey itself, was valuable. Thank you very much, Sasaki.
The feeling of awe and accomplishment when looking up at Jomon Sugi was overwhelming, but I also felt more fatigued than I expected, so I highly recommend this tour that includes hotel pick-up. I would like to build my stamina and repeat this experience during the fresh green season!
3月20日ガイドの佐々木さんパーティー計7人で挑みました。
普段はオフィスワーク・登山初心者なのでツアー前は体力が不安でしたが、佐々木さんの休憩を挟みながらのペース配分と途中雪が残っていて滑りやすかった際に靴底スパイクを貸していただいたおかげで怪我なく無事辿り着けました。
終始自然を楽しむよりも、正直ついていくのが精一杯でしたが、歩く過程含めて価値がある経験が出来ました。佐々木さん本当にありがとうございました。
縄文杉を見上げた時の感動と達成感の方が勝りますが、疲労も想像以上に感じるのでホテル送迎があるこのツアーを強くおすすめします。私もまた体力つけて新緑頃にリピートしたいです！

I participated in a trekking tour in Yakushima for the first time. Due to the impact of a typhoon, the course was changed and the distance was longer, but thanks to the guide's careful instructions, I was able to enjoy the climb.

The guide was a lively veteran at the age of 77. We arrived at Yakushima in the morning and participated in the half-day course in the afternoon. Trekking in light rain added a certain charm to the moss. I heard that it had been sunny until the day before, and at that time, the moss was completely dry. I actually appreciated the rainy weather.
The guide was a local who grew up in Yakushima and shared various stories with us. He brought fresh juice squeezed from "tankans" that he had planted in his garden, and as a reward for our efforts at the end, he treated us to the juice. It was sweet and delicious.
There were many photo spots, and the guide had a routine of saying, "Stand here—take the photo from this angle!" We probably spent more time taking pictures than actually walking. わちゃわちゃ写真撮影している時間の方が長かった？かも？
"こだま"という小さなアイテムを持ってきていて、すてきな写真が取れました。
逆に言うと、映え写真に興味のない方には、”また、撮影～？”と思うかもしれません。私がそうなのですが、、、

When you think of Yakushima, you think of Jomon Sugi, so I signed up with a light heart, but it was tougher than I imagined. Without the encouragement from the group members with guide Mr. Mitsuhashi, I definitely wouldn't have made it. He was a really great guide, and he took some wonderful photos for us.
屋久島と言ったら縄文杉だろうと軽い気持ちで申し込みましたが、想像以上のきつさでした。
ガイドの三橋さんと同じグループの方たちの励ましが無かったら絶対辿りつけませんでした。

On March 22, we were blessed with wonderful weather, making it the perfect day for trekking. There were six of us in the group, and the guide was attentive and kind, considering the participants' fitness levels and adjusting the pace accordingly. Everyone in the group was nice, and we enjoyed walking together throughout the long journey. Even when it was tough, I think we were able to go and come back thanks to the guide's support. Jomon Sugi is truly breathtaking. The guide took many photos for us, and being a professional, he knew all the best photo spots and had great compositions. If you're someone who thinks of this as a once-in-a-lifetime visit, I highly recommend joining a tour, as you might miss some highlights if you go on your own.
3月22日、とにかくお天気に恵まれ最高のトレッキング日和でした。
6人のグループでしたがガイドの方が丁寧で親切に参加者の体力を考慮しペース配分など対応していただけました。グループの方も皆さん良い人で長い道中、楽しく歩けました。
辛くても諦めず全員で行って帰ってこれたのはガイドさんの力が大きいかなと思います。縄文杉は圧巻の素晴らしさです。ガイドさんが沢山、写真も撮ってくださいました。やはりプロのガイドさんだと写真ポイントも押さえているし構図もバッチリです。個人で行くと見所を見忘れたりする事もあるので、一生に一度訪れる場所と思っている人程、ツアー参加が私としてはお勧めです。

We signed up as two 21-year-old girls. I thought there would be other participants, but that day it was just the two of us and a guide, an older man in his 60s.
Right at the start of the trekking, at a waterfall, he suddenly grabbed my face firmly and made me look up. I was told to just do it without understanding why, and it turned out he wanted to take a picture of us drinking water. He was grinning and touched my face more than necessary, which made me uncomfortable, but I couldn’t say anything since I had to climb with him for three hours.
Later, he asked us to pose like a deer, and when we did, he said, "Females don’t have antlers, so you two must have a lot of male hormones." When I fell and landed on my backside, he said, "I can’t just pat your bottom, can I?" and made other creepy comments, trying to touch us.
I wanted to enjoy nature, but he kept talking about himself and bothering us unnecessarily, ruining the beautiful forest experience. その後も、シカのポーズで写真を撮ろうと言われ、その通りにすると、「メスはツノが生えないんだよ、だから2人は男性ホルモンが多いんだね」と言われたり、転んで尻餅をつくと「お尻なでなでするわけにはいかないもんねぇ？」など他にも気持ち悪いことを言われたり、触られそうになりました。
また、自然を楽しみたかったのに自分の話ばかりしたり、必要以上に話しかけてきて、せっかく綺麗な森にいるのに台無しでした。ツアーの目的地に着いて、好きなだけいていいよと言われましたが、1秒でも早く下山してガイドの人と離れたかったので、もういいですと言うと、苔のよさはまだわからないかぁ、もったいないなあと言われ、ガイドがこの人ではなかったら私たちだってこんな風にならなかったのに。本当に最悪でした。
これらを直接言えたらよかったのですが、参加者か私たちだけだったのと、私たちがまだ若いので言っても流されて聞いてもらえないだろうなと諦めてしまいました。
トレッキングの最中は本当にずっとずっと嫌で、卒業旅行で楽しみにしていたのに、最悪の思い出になってしまいました。自分たちが21歳の女子だからこうなったんだろうなと思うと自分まで嫌になるね、と友達と会話をしたくらい最悪なガイドでした。星ひとつもつけたくありません。

At first, I walked along a gentle trolley path. It was very enjoyable to walk on a trail full of nature. After that, I walked on steep paths like stone stairs and wooden paths. My feet were a bit sore, but when I reached Jomon Sugi, I felt an unprecedented sense of accomplishment. It was drizzling a little, and I couldn't see the distant mountains, but I was able to experience beautiful scenery that I usually don't get to see, like moss with raindrops on it and snow that hadn't completely melted yet. I wanted to see Jomon Sugi at least once in my life, so I decided to join the tour alone. I hadn't done much hiking since elementary school, and I usually only walk about 4,000 to 5,000 steps a day, so I was very anxious.
About 60 to 70% of the trail was paved with wooden boards, but since it was March, it was quite slippery as we approached the summit, and some people fell.
It was a long journey, but encouraging each other with the group and walking in the magnificent nature of Yakushima to see the majestic Jomon Sugi was an incredible feeling of accomplishment! The guide welcomed us warmly from the moment we met and took many photos for us. I felt like our group was relatively young, so we might have walked a bit faster than other guides, but I think it was good that we were able to walk at a comfortable pace.

I heard that due to the severe cold wave, it has often been difficult to reach Jomon Sugi recently, so I thought it would be nice to at least make it partway there. However, thanks to our guide Yoshioka's appropriate encouragement, perfect pacing, and consideration, I was able to reach the end. Walking in the snow was challenging, but he taught us how to walk properly, so I started to get the hang of it. I learned a lot, not just about mountain climbing but also various other things. I'm really glad I participated because I was able to see such beautiful scenery.

When I made the reservation for February 18 last September, I was informed that "there might be snow in February." Only three family members participated on New Year's Day. The grandeur of the Yakusugi trees was breathtaking, and although the temperature was 3°C, the humidity exceeded 70%, making the moss incredibly beautiful and soothing. (Regarding the rental of crampons)
I was told over the phone that the rental fee was 500 yen, but when I received them the day before, it was 1000 yen, and I was told that the guide would teach me how to put them on. However, on the day of the trek, the guide asked me why I hadn't practiced at the lodge and called me clumsy. ガイドさんはグループのみんなに、縄文杉は時間をかければ誰でもいけるが、ツアーとなると集団行動になり時間制限があって、17時を過ぎるとタクシー代が宿代以上にかかると話していました。
その点については、前日の電話での確認事項のときに、話しておいた方がいいと思います。
