Jigokudani Snow Monkeys
The most famous inhabitants of Nagano prefecture, the cute Japanese macaque monkeys of Jigokudani love to spend the cooler months warming up in the local hot springs! The snow monkeys are social creatures, and it is lots of fun to watch their interactions. Day trips from Tokyo to see the monkeys are available, and usually include a stop in Nagano city as well, home to beautiful Zenkoji Temple and top-notch soba noodles. Make sure to wear a stout pair of hiking boots!
