Beginner Friendly Okinawa Mangrove River Kayaking Adventure in Higashi

Reviewed by: Bessie, 2019/12/13The weather was definitely not kayaking weather, it was raining and cold. But the activity was not cancelled by the company. We showed up and our tour guide, Ken, was ready for us. Unfortunately half our group didn't want to join the activity because it was cold, raining, and windy. We paid in advance and was not able to get a refund for the non participants of our group. We decided to not have the 2 young children do the activity because we didn't want them to catch a cold.
It started out with short instructions on how to maneuver a kayak. Instructions were simple and quick and once we knew it we were in the water ready to go. It started out rough, but once we got into the mangrove it was peaceful and beautiful, and the rain stopped. There were other people doing the activity as well, despite the weather. Our tour guide, Ken, educated us and also showed us a bird native to the mangrove and how the trees grow and other animals that live in the mangrove, like mudskippers, crabs, and lobsters.
It was just so peaceful being there. We really had a good experience. Of course the course of the tour is dependant on the tide. When the tide got low we turned around. The begginers tour is about 1.5hrs roundtrip. Because our tour ended a little sooner because of the tide, Ken offered to take us to catch some waves with the kayak where the ocean met the river. Of course our two young ladies wanted to give it a try and they had lots of fun.
On a nice day this activity is worth the try. It's really nice. We had some rain and wind, but not having the sun and the cool breeze when the rain stopped made the activity tolerable.

Hi ! Bessie!
I'm Ken!
Thank you for your comment
I was very happy that you enjoyed our tour
Unfortunately, it was very cold that day, and it was sad that all the children and others could not participate
I think Okinawa was much colder than Hawaii, but in Okinawa you can see the characteristic mangroves
Please come and join with your friends and family from Hawaii someday.
We are waiting for you
Thank you
