I had always wanted to visit Asahiyama Zoo, and the moment I decided to go to Sapporo, I promised myself that I would definitely go! However, since I usually live in an area without snow, I was a bit scared to rent a car and drive myself, so I joined this bus tour.

In the end, participating in this tour was definitely the right choice. The bus was clean and well-maintained, the driver's driving was careful, which made me feel safe, and the bus guide was very enjoyable, sharing fun and detailed stories about Hokkaido's history, making the travel time very meaningful.

During a restroom break at Sunagawa Highway Oasis, I was able to enjoy delicious cream puffs and soft serve ice cream from Kitakaro. At Asahiyama Zoo, I was truly happy to see the cute animals. I was looking forward to seeing the hippos swimming, as the guide mentioned how amazing they were, and they really were lively and adorable. The hippos' back legs were so clumsy and cute, it was very soothing to watch.

途中でトイレ休憩に寄った砂川ハイウェイオアシスでは、北菓楼の美味しいシュークリームとソフトクリームも食べることが出来ました。
旭山動物園では、かわいい動物達を見られて、本当に幸せでした。
ガイドさんに水の中で泳ぐカバがすごいと教えていただいたので楽しみにしていましたが、本当に生き生きと泳いでいてとてもかわいかったです。カバの後ろ足がころんとしていてすごく可愛くて癒されました。
ペンギンのお散歩は想像以上の可愛さの大渋滞で、ずっーと見ていられました。
次は暖かい時期にもまた来たいです。
その時はまたこちらにお世話になりたいと思います。
あ、バスとは関係ないのですが、お昼ご飯を食べるのにすごく並ばないといけなくて、せっかくの動物を見る時間が減ってしまったのは私の失敗でした。
何か食べられるものを事前に買って行かれることをお勧めします。

I went on a day trip bus tour to Asahiyama Zoo. I was worried about whether I could see everything in the three hours we had, but I was able to see most of the animals I wanted to. Asahiyama Zoo is designed using the slopes of the area, and bus groups enter through the East Gate at the top of the hill. I researched efficient ways to explore online beforehand, and it was recommended to go counterclockwise regardless of which gate you enter, so I followed that advice. However, I was disappointed that I couldn't see the penguin walk, which starts around late December. I think it's important to have sufficient winter clothing if you visit in winter.

It felt way too small, more like a child's meal, and I was very disappointed. In the morning, one of the participants asked, "Aren't we going to the Blue Pond?" and the response was, "This tour does not go there." The guide then said something like, "Why is it closed? We should at least borrow the restroom." Another participant mentioned that the tour company had notified them that "Ningle Terrace" is closed at this time of year, so they would be going to the Blue Pond instead. I had no interest in paintings at all, but I was pleasantly surprised by Professor Goto's museum. Additionally, we had lunch at the restaurant in a location that felt like we were looking at a landscape painting. It was very delicious and truly enriched my heart.

In the morning, I selfishly asked if we could stop by to see the illuminations on the way back, and the bus driver kindly remembered my request. We were able to enjoy the beautiful illuminations from the warm bus.

The schedule was just perfect. The zoo, the Blue Pond in Biei, lunch, and all-you-can-eat melon were all enjoyable experiences! Since it was late October, the autumn leaves visible along the highway were incredibly beautiful. The cold was quite intense, and it seems that people in Hokkaido don't think it's cold, as they dress lightly and don't seem to use heating anywhere, so it's best to dress warmly! A down jacket was the best choice!

Especially at Asahiyama Zoo, it's mostly outdoors with few buildings to block the wind, so be careful of the strong gusts! The Blue Pond is also quite far by car, and it's too cold to stay outside for long. Walking on the unstable ground for a bit meant we didn't need to stay for more than 10 minutes, so joining the tour was definitely the right choice. The driver was kind and considerate. 青い池も車で遠いし降りても寒すぎるし、地面が不安定なところを少し歩くので、滞在時間10分もいらなくてよかった感じなのでツアーで大正解かと。
ドライバーさんも優しく気遣いのある方でした。
メロンも甘くてびっくりしました。食べ放題だなんてかなりお得！
クーポンもついてるし、コスパ良いと思いました！

We couldn't maintain distance from other participants, and since there were elderly people in the group, I really wished they had provided a proper sightseeing bus that allowed for spacing, especially during these times. I understand that it's tough with the increasing number of infections, but that aspect was truly disappointing.

The most enjoyable part was definitely Asahiyama Zoo. The way the exhibits were arranged was interesting, making it exciting and fun even for adults. I participated because I could enjoy both a popular zoo and a spot featured in the guide. The zoo was great, but I was simply amazed by the beauty of the blue pond! The all-you-can-eat lunch and melon were nice, but it was a shame I got full after just four pieces. The driver was from China and was very courteous. There were also participants from China on the same tour, which must have been reassuring. Due to COVID, many events at the zoo were canceled, so I would like to visit again when I have the chance.

人気の動物園とガイドにも載っているスポットがどちらも楽しめるということで参加しました。
動物園はもちろんの事、青い池の綺麗さにただただ感動！
お昼とメロン食べ放題も良かったですが、4切れでお腹いっぱいになったのが残念。
ドライバーさんは中国の方でしたが、丁寧に対応してくださいました。同じツアーに中国の参加者がいらっしゃったので、心強かったのではないでしょうか。
コロナということで、動物園もイベントが色々中止になってたので、また機会があればゆっくり行ってみたいです。

I had to stand in line with other customers just to exchange the voucher for tickets, and it would have been better to wait until the bus arrived to line up, but instead, I stood there for about 15 minutes doing nothing. The bus guide kept explaining disclaimers like "In case of bad weather, the highway may be closed and the trip could be canceled," but for some reason, he was smiling half-heartedly while doing so, which was irritating. I wanted to sleep during the journey, but the bus guide kept talking and it was noisy. Next time, I will use a different mode of transportation.

バウチャーとチケットを引き換えるだけに他の客と同じ列に並ぶ必要があったり、バスが来てから並べばいいのに来るまで15分くらいひたすら立って待つだけなどひたすら段取りが悪い。

Private Day Trip to Asahiyama Zoo and Farm Tomita from Sapporo

Requested for a English host however not available thus the company sent an Japanese speaking driver cum guide. The guide was attentive and experience less the fact that communication was difficult, luckily we were able to use translation application to understand each other. Driver took the initiative to assist with photo taking and even brought us to get Hokkaido melons!

We opt for the vellfire as there were 5 of us and the vehicle was clean and very comfy. Toll fees were not included in the package and it added up to quite a shocking figure for the day.

Journey from sapporo to the designated areas was very far, we spent half a day travelling and it was so tiring. Emailed the company for some changes in pick up timing however there wasn’t any reply from them, be very sure on the timing before booking to prevent having to change the timing.

Paid 1.2k SGD for this day trip for 5 pax, I personally find the price a little on the high side however the driver’s service was so good that we tipped him even being so pricy. Wouldn’t recommend this itinerary but would definitely recommend taking on a tour with this company!
