Hokkaido
I participated in the 2-hour course. My initial goal was to see the Furepe Falls, but I also wanted to look for flying squirrels. I was told that they can often be found where pine nuts are dropped, so I searched for those. And there they were! A flying squirrel eating pine nuts in the trees. It was eating for quite a long time, so I was able to take some great photos. The Furepe Falls were also magnificent and impressive. Additionally, I was lent snowshoes, which made walking on the snowy paths easy. It was a fulfilling 2 hours, and I would love to go again.
Dear Shunzawa, this is Ayano, your guide. The Ezo Momonga looks beautiful in the photos—amazing! Thank you for participating in the tour the other day. I also appreciate your sharing your experiences and photos. I'm glad you enjoyed the nature and wildlife of Shiretoko. I look forward to the day we can meet again.
We were blessed with great weather and enjoyed the pure white snow! Although we are not very active, we were amazed and thrilled by the snow, walking a lot to take photos and videos, observing the birds, and packing our time with fun activities. We were satisfied during our coffee break and on the way back, we enjoyed the pleasant afterglow while pondering what to eat. It was great that we could rent winter gear as well. I definitely want to go again!
The weather was just right, with a little snow falling on the day. The drift ice was also just arriving, allowing us to see a more dynamic landscape than we had expected. On this day, we were able to spot deer from a distance, but we couldn't see them up close. I was very healed by the quiet air in the forest. Additionally, the guide's explanations were very detailed and easy to understand, which was educational. The descriptions that wove in the history of Shiretoko with information about the flora and fauna were very impressive. It made me feel a desire to learn more about the greatness of nature and history, and it reminded me that this is a heritage we must cherish and protect. Witnessing the plants and animals living in such a harsh environment inspired me to strive harder. I also greatly appreciated the help with the date change the day before. Thank you for the valuable experience.
Dear Mr. Gurei,
This is Ayano, your guide. Thank you for joining the tour despite the cold weather the other day.
Also, thank you for sharing your photos and experiences of the frozen waterfall.
In the summer, many birds migrate to the area around the waterfall to raise their young, allowing you to enjoy a different landscape and wildlife.
I look forward to the day we can meet again.
Before going, I was thinking about various things like whether my hat would be okay or if I needed sunglasses, but once I got there, the explanations were thorough, and they provided everything necessary. I was able to take a lot of photos!
Wearing comfortable clothes is key; I wore pants with an elastic waistband, and as long as you’re careful with double socks, you should be fine! It was mostly free time throughout, and since there were only a few of us, I think we had a lot of fun!
I brought my GoPro8, and I was able to use it without any issues with just a silicone case! Since the GoPro shutter is hard to press with gloves, I recommend filming videos and then cropping photos later.
I was worried about the cold, but once I took off the dry suit, I was warm enough inside, so there was no need to worry about the cold! Thank you, Keke, for the half-day experience!
Dear Yuppy,
Thank you very much for participating in our tour. We also greatly appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Thank you for the wonderful photos! The weather on the day of your participation was also favorable. The contrast between the pure white drift ice and the blue sky is stunning.
Everyone, including you, was so much fun, and we were laughing the entire time. I personally had a very enjoyable time as well. If you have the opportunity, please come back to Shiretoko again. All of our staff are sincerely looking forward to your visit.

The tour guide was very nice and helpful. We were very comfortable and had lots of fun with this tour. The guide took lots of pretty pictures and videos too. The forest park was amazingly beautiful. It feels like we were in a different world. I will definitely recommend this tour to experience once in a lifetime. Adventures and fun. Thank you to the team and our nice tour guide Hirosan.

The drift ice and Abashiri Prison were impressive. The view from the Drift Ice Museum was also nice. However, the lunch portion was small. You can choose between a seafood bowl or a hokke set meal, but I chose the seafood bowl, which came with just the bowl, pickles, and miso soup. We were taken to the second floor of the dining area, and after the food was served, that was it. The staff did not come up to the second floor, and there was no warm tea after the meal, nor any way to call the staff. The rice portion was large, but the seafood was minimal. If lunch is simple, the satisfaction level might be low.
We disbanded at Abashiri Station at 16:00, but I immediately went into a hamburger restaurant nearby and had a salad buffet and a hamburger. It might be good for older people, but others might have felt hungry.
It seems that there are many tours with large groups, but this one was held with a smaller number of participants, allowing the guide to pay attention to each individual. As a result, we were able to walk further out than on other tours. The guide also took many photos for us, which can be downloaded later.
Dear Harari,
Thank you very much for participating in our Drift Ice Walking 360° on February 18. We also greatly appreciate your contribution to the experience review. There is no greater joy than knowing you enjoyed it. Shiretoko has its own unique beauty in each of the four seasons, so if you have the opportunity, we would love for you to visit again. All of our staff sincerely look forward to your return.
Sincerely,

I took the train from Kitahama Station, and I thought it was short. Abashiri Prison and lunch were also great! It was nice that Notoro Cape was sunny.
I couldn't see the drift ice.
Lunch was disappointing. Previously, there was a large souvenir facility that served salmon chan-chan-yaki.
Most places could only accommodate about 20 people in a vertical line, so it was disappointing that I couldn't hear the guide's voice from the back. They were probably sharing some good stories?
Dear Shiretoko Suki,
This is Ayano, your guide. Thank you for your valuable feedback. I sincerely apologize for the issue with the sound; I will take your comments into consideration for improvements.

I was able to fully enjoy the first snowfall while taking infection prevention measures. I would like to return to Hokkaido in winter again.
The weather forecast for the day showed a southwest wind. My worries were confirmed! Still, once we headed out to sea, we were able to see everything clearly. Thank you so much, it was really great!
A trip with my daughter from Kansai.
Since we usually come from a region where it doesn't snow, everything was a first-time experience, and we had a lot of fun and created wonderful memories.
We were able to participate in our regular outfits.
There were some activities where we got a bit of snow on us, but it didn't bother us at all.
There were free buses from New Chitose Airport and Chitose Station (Chitose Winter Loop), so it was great that we could participate before our flight departure.
I thought we might have too much free time since there weren't many activities, but we joined a plan that allowed unlimited play, so we enjoyed the same activities multiple times, and there wasn't enough time. Snow rafting was thrilling and exciting, and both the adults and high school students were very enthusiastic.
Since it’s a facility at a famous golf course, it was very clean, and we had delicious jingisukan for lunch, which had no odor at all. There was also a drink bar, and we enjoyed coffee after our meal while looking at the beautiful snowy landscape.
All the staff were very kind, and we created even more wonderful memories before leaving Hokkaido.
I definitely want to stop by again the next time I come to Hokkaido. It was so much fun!! Thank you very much.
The guide was kind, and despite it being winter, we had a great time. The waterfall we aimed for was beautiful, and both the snowshoeing and hiking along the way were enjoyable. The guide worked hard to find animals and plants and provided explanations.
This is Ayano, your guide. Thank you for the photos and comments about the Furepe Falls, as well as your high rating. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing you again.

I was guided by Ayano-san. Instead of a trekking course, we walked through a snowy animal path wearing snowshoes. I was able to hear many stories about the ecosystem that I wouldn't have learned by walking through the forest on my own. Since these are wild animals, there's no guarantee you'll see them, but during my visit, I was able to observe various animals such as Ezo deer, northern foxes, white-tailed eagles, and falcons.
In February, during the peak of winter, we happened to be there just as the drift ice was returning to the shore with the north wind, and we were able to enjoy the view of the drift ice spreading across the sea. I was captivated by its grandeur and forgot the cold as I admired it.
If you want to know the land, walking with a guide is the best! I was also comforted by Ayano-san's wonderful personality.
Since the temperature is below freezing, your toes can get cold. I think it's a good idea for participants to keep their toes especially warm.
Dear Aiponchi,
This is Ayano, your guide. Thank you for the wonderful photos and comments. It was a mid-winter day, but I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I look forward to the day we can meet again.
Aiponchi

We were blessed with wonderful weather on the day of the tour, and we enjoyed the snowshoe tour while listening to our guide's various entertaining stories. I believe that the time spent relaxing in nature, listening to the birds sing, became an invaluable experience. It also turned out to be surprisingly good exercise. I highly recommend it!
Thank you for participating in the tour the other day. I look forward to seeing you again if there is another opportunity.
Since it was a rare opportunity, I wondered if it would be okay and requested the three-hour course. It seems to be a different path from the usual one, where we crossed over large trees and ducked between them, which was a lot of fun! I encountered a herd of Ezo deer and various birds, and it was really enjoyable.
This is Ayano, your guide. Thank you for your comment. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. In the summer, you'll see different creatures. We look forward to your next visit.

Accurate description of the activities. The tour guide was warm and friendly. We had a lot of fun smelt fishing. Our group was thrilled and would love to do it again. Thank you for sharing Hokkaido with us.
Due to scheduling constraints, I could only enjoy one day, so I joined this tour. Fortunately, it was the last day of the season, which was really great.
Additionally, the guide's explanations were clear, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of Abashiri.
On the icebreaker ship, I was able to enjoy the drifting ice. It's best to view it from the deck, but it can be cold, so appropriate clothing is necessary. I was able to see animals like eagles and seagulls, but unfortunately, I couldn't see any seals.
Abashiri Prison has facilities scattered around, and since you spend a lot of time outside, it's best to wear warm clothing. With limited time, it's important to focus on the key points.
At the Drift Ice Museum, I was glad to see animals that live in the drifting ice, like the clione. There were displays of drifting ice, and it was nice to touch them, but since I had already seen them on the icebreaker, it wasn't as impressive. There was an observation deck, but unfortunately, the weather was bad.
For lunch, I had to choose when I got on the bus in the morning, and the options were Zangi rice bowl and ramen. There was a souvenir shop on the first floor, and after finishing my meal, I could take my time looking at souvenirs and seafood like crabs. There were also souvenirs from the Drift Ice Museum and Abashiri Prison, but they were a bit limited. I purchased some local sake and beer from Abashiri.
After that, I went to the Drift Ice Special Railway and Cape Notoro, but the weather was bad, and I couldn't enjoy the scenery. There's nothing that can be done about that.
I felt a bit rushed for time, but I was able to efficiently enjoy Abashiri in one day.
Great way to see the natural winter landscape. Our guide was so helpful, accommodating, and patient. Learning how to "ski shoe" was so interesting and we might be converts! We had a ton of fun and the scenery was unforgettable. I highly recommend this!
The visiting hours at Abashiri Prison are not enough at all. I couldn't visit all the facilities. I had to wait 30 minutes for the train at Kitahama Station in the cold winter, and I was freezing.
I participated in mid-February 2020. When I arrived at the meeting place, I was relieved to have someone carefully teach me how to put on the dry suit and help me with it. After a short 5-minute drive, we reached a small cove on Lake Shikotsu, where an area about the size of two tennis courts was frozen. From a distance, the white and transparent ice looked mottled. I learned that the lake water freezes clear, while the snow that accumulates on top freezes white. At first, I thought the transparent ice was thin and melting, but it turned out to be quite thick. The guide brought a pickaxe and let me borrow it to try to break the ice, but it wouldn't break at all. When I picked up a piece of broken ice, it had a unique crystalline shape that I had never seen before. I could also enter the lake from the edge of the ice. It was surprisingly warm for this time of year, with an outside temperature of 5°C and a water temperature of 2°C, so I hardly felt any cold except on my face, which was directly exposed to the water. By the way, I wore a T-shirt and sweatpants under the dry suit, and I had adhesive heat packs on my toes, but I was slightly sweating after the experience. Since I intentionally didn't let the air out of the dry suit, I floated comfortably in the water, which made me feel secure even though I couldn't swim. Floating without feeling cold while gazing at the blue sky was very pleasant, and I wished I could have stayed like that for another hour. The guide also lent me a snorkel, so even though my face was extremely cold, I could observe the underside of the ice and the bottom of the lake closely. The time spent standing on the ice and being in the lake was about 40-50 minutes, and with the remaining time for putting on and taking off the dry suit, moving around, and settling the payment, the total duration was just a little over an hour. Since it wasn't cold, it felt too short, and I would have liked to have at least double the time. I was very satisfied to have such a rare experience that is hard to come by.
Thank you for the experience of the Shikotsu Lake Ice Walk. We are very happy that the weather was favorable and that our customers enjoyed themselves. The way the ice forms and the amount of snow accumulation can change how we play, so please come back again when you have the chance. And let's count on your support for good weather next time, so we can enjoy other activities as well.
This activity is so fun and memorable that i highly recommend it to anyone. It is also very value for money. I would do it again if I go back to sapporo again. The buffet spread is also very good. Do not miss the onsen too.
Thank you for your message. We are glad that you had a good time with the ice smelt fishing. We hope that you will participate in our smelt fishing again.
Kind regards,
Blue Tourism Hokkaido
The ice fishing was really a fun experience for our group of six friends and family. Was easy to do and not as cold as we thought. Wearing ice cleats really helped, though. The guides were very helpful, always checking on us and giving tips, which helped us to catch more smelt. They had a great sense of humor, too. After eating the tempura smelt, we went for our buffet lunch which was delicious after all that activity. The onsen was the best experience, though and they gave us all the time we wanted, as the buses left every hour and were could choose when to return. First time for the guys, but the ladies really took advantage of all the different choices of baths. We liked the apple juice and ginger spa the best! Well worth the package price!
Thank you for your comment. We are also glad to hear from you and nice message. We hope that you will take part in this smelt fishing again.
Best regards,
Blue Tourism Hokkaido
We experienced a three-hour course starting from the Nature Center with our family of three. Considering our physical fitness and the weather that day, we were guided to a recommended distance and course. Thanks to the careful planning of the route, the attentive guidance, and the consideration for our pace, it turned out to be a very fulfilling experience. On a clear day, we encountered a golden eagle, a white-tailed eagle, squirrels, and a herd of deer, creating unforgettable memories. I highly recommend it to everyone.
Dear Marshall, this is Ayano, your guide. Thank you for participating in the snow trekking the other day. I'm glad you were able to encounter many creatures and enjoy it with your family. Additionally, I would like to express my gratitude for your feedback on the tour, the beautiful photos, and your high rating. I look forward to the day we can meet again.
It seems like the weather is nice, and although it might be difficult to catch fish, they provide various advice and change the bait to help you catch something. The kids get really excited and have a great time. You can enjoy more tempura made from the wakasagi than you catch!
I participated because I could tour the sightseeing spots in Abashiri. On the day of the tour, we couldn't ride the icebreaker due to strong winds, but we received shopping vouchers at a nearby roadside station, allowing us to shop leisurely. After that, we moved according to the itinerary and enjoyed sightseeing and gourmet experiences. The time we had at the Abashiri Prison was shorter than expected (about 40 minutes), so if you take your time, you might not be able to see everything (which is a downside). The view of the sea ice at Cape Notoro, our last stop, was breathtaking.
Since the sightseeing spots are far from Abashiri Station, you need to consider using buses for transportation. However, there are only about two buses per hour, which limits your freedom (it seems there are no buses to Cape Notoro). Considering this, I think this tour, which allows you to visit all the spots by bus and return to the center of Abashiri, is convenient.
I participated in a experience of catching wakasagi (Japanese pond smelt) starting from Sapporo. The words about enjoying it with a charismatic guide and a small group are certainly true. You can experience wakasagi fishing in a warm vinyl house with a stove set up. The guide is full of hospitality, helping by scattering bait, changing bait, and checking the depth for wakasagi to ensure you catch them quickly. It can be quite challenging to catch them, but once you start, you can catch them one after another. Whether you catch them or not is a matter of luck. You can also experience drilling holes in the ice, and even if you don't catch anything, the wakasagi tempura served is well-seasoned, perfectly fried, and delicious. I highly recommend this tour.
It was perfect! It was exactly how I imagined it to be! I highly recommend this to everyone who will visit Sapporo for the first time :)
Since each tour accommodates only one group, you won't have to worry about interacting with unfamiliar people, allowing you to have plenty of conversations with the instructor. During the tour, you can feel the presence of animals living in the forest through snow tracks, scratch marks on trees, droppings, and remnants of their meals, with the instructor explaining each detail. You can lie on the snow, taste tree sap, and truly connect with nature. In the forest, apart from the sound of flowing water and birds chirping, the only noise is the crunch of snow beneath your feet, creating a wonderfully soothing silence. Especially for those who usually live in urban areas, this is an indescribably wonderful natural experience. They also provide transportation from Furano Station and hotels, making it accessible even without a car. You'll definitely find yourself wanting to live in Hokkaido. Highly recommended!
