Absolutely spectacular!!

Not only were we the only two people at the tea house, but we had the maiko and tea house owner all to ourselves to chat with!!!

The maiko herself was so friendly. She performed a tea ceremony with such grace, with an accompanying explanation from the tea house owner. She then performed a small dance (again, an interpretation for the dance was offered by the tea house owner).

We then had time to just talk to the maiko. She was not only obliging to take pictures, but she made a genuine attempt to speak as much English to us. She seemed to enjoy talking about her favorite music, books and activities - she even taught us a few traditional dance moves!

Everyone was very welcoming, and the tea and sweets were delicious! I would recommend this to anyone who is fascinated with maiko and geiko culture, as it's sure to impress every time!

I visited with a dear friend from Taiwan. Since it was our first experience, we were both a bit anxious the day before. On the day of the visit, we received warm hospitality from the innkeeper, and as we listened to stories about the history of the tea house, we gradually relaxed.

Then, we enjoyed matcha prepared by Tomoe (the maiko), savored the dance, and even had the chance to chat, making it a truly valuable and enriching time. The photo taken with Tomoe and my friend is a treasure. I will visit again in the fall.

When I arrived at the location, I felt anxious, wondering, "Is this really the place?" Summoning my courage, I rang the bell, and a very humble woman welcomed me. At first, she explained various interesting things (like tea), and then the maiko appeared! Wow, she was beautiful! I was served tea, and afterwards, she performed a dance. After that, we chatted for a while and played a game called "Konpira Funafuna." I was also able to take photos freely, and I had a very meaningful time. It turns out she was a celebrity well-known enough to appear on Google. Wow, it was so much fun!

On the second floor of a tea house in Gion, while it may lack glamour, it has a certain charm, allowing me to touch upon the tea house culture for a brief moment. After enjoying a tea ceremony demonstration and a dance performance, I had the opportunity to talk with a maiko (Tomita Ai). The conversation about the maiko's life and customs was fascinating. I learned that the kimono, obi, and even the kanzashi motifs are determined by the season (the attached photo is of a fan from July).

In a world where convenience and comfort are prioritized, it was a precious experience to witness the presence of those who preserve traditional culture up close. I also had my first experience with ozashiki asobi (traditional parlor games). It was fun.

I was able to take many photos both in the parlor and at the entrance. While foreign visitors would surely enjoy this, I would particularly recommend it to Japanese people who can appreciate the intricate details and background.

祇園のお茶屋さんの二階、華やかさはないものの風情があり、わずかな時間お茶屋文化に触れることができました。
お薄のお点前と舞を披露いただいた後、舞妓さん（富多愛さん）とお話しできました。舞妓さんの生活や風習についてお話は興味深いものでした。気節ごとに着物、帯はもちろんかんざしのモチーフも決まっているそうです(添付写真は７月の団扇）。
便利で快適が優先の世の中で、伝統文化を守っていらしゃる方たちの存在をまじかに見ることができ、貴重な経験をさせていただきました。

We weren't expecting anything other than a tea session so we were totally caught by surprise when we reached Gion Kaikan and were asked if we would mind being part of a documentary on maikos for Tokyo's TV Asahi! The house mother was incredibly warm and hospitable and the maiko was very beautiful and entertaining. She also indulged our questions and played a little game with each of us at the end. The whole experience was amazing from start to finish. It's a privilege to be able to book such experiences given the exclusivity of maikos and geikos. Well worth every cent spent!

We, a group of 14 people from Kyoto who usually have no connection to tea houses, visited one. After waiting for a while in the second-floor room, a maiko gracefully appeared. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of her walking and demeanor. When she prepared the tea for us, we were captivated by her elegant movements. Witnessing the maiko's splendor and the beauty of her actions elevated our spirits.

After enjoying a performance of the "Gion Kouta," we had a free talk session, which gradually eased our initial stiffness and allowed us to have a pleasant time. During this time, the maiko kindly answered all our questions about maiko and tea houses with a smile, making for a very warm atmosphere.

At the end, we learned a simple tea house game and enjoyed it for a while. As expected, the maiko was a pro at tea house games, and none of us could keep up with her.

When we left the tea house, the maiko continued to see us off until we were out of sight, allowing us to feel the hospitality until the very end. Thank you very much.

　最後に簡単なお茶屋遊びを教えてもらって、しばらくその遊びに興じました。さすがに舞妓さんはお茶屋遊びのプロ、誰も歯が立ちませんでした。
　お茶屋を後にする時には私たちの姿が見えなくなるまで舞妓さんにずっと見送っていただくなど、最後の最後までおもてなしを感じることができました。

It would be too tough on us to walk around all the way. We had a nice breakfast at a cafe off the main road, and then took a break at nearby the main temple gate, having bought red-bean rice balls from a famous store which will usually is sold out in the morning. It was very fun. I think we covered quite a lot of ground.
By the way, more information on the bike parking lots would be appreciated.

If you're going to experience tourism, I want you to see the authentic maiko and geiko in Kyoto! While researching, I came across this tour.

Generally, it's often said that first-time visitors are not welcome and that it can be expensive, but this tour took those factors into account and was open to everyone.

Starting with tea, followed by dancing, a Q&A session, games, and commemorative photos (photography was allowed throughout the tour, which was wonderful!), it was a packed schedule that created great memories.

I would like to express my gratitude to Tomikiku's mother, Tomitsuyu, for her hospitality. Both of them spoke English very well, which made the overseas guests even happier.

Walking tours have their limits, so this time, cycling was comfortable. We had breakfast at a café just off the road, bought some ohagi that sells out by the morning, parked our bikes at the bike rack near the mountain gate, and took a moment to relax with the ohagi! It was fun. We cycled quite a bit. Oh! But I would have liked a bit more information about the bike parking.

Since I turned 55, I went on a trip to Kyoto with five of my high school classmates. I was looking for something that felt uniquely Kyoto as the organizer. However, most places were a bit pricey... This was great; after tea, we enjoyed a performance of Gion Kouta. We had plenty of time to chat and take commemorative photos. In the end, they even saw us off. The price was reasonable, and although it was a bit of an old tea house, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Best cultural experience in Kyoto

This was our 1st trip to Kyoto and we were eagerly seeking cultural experience with the famous Geiko (Geisha) and tea ceremony. It was definitely a right choice as we could have the tea ceremony in a traditional tea house, with a Maiko making tea and danced for us, and played traditional dinner games with us. We also have plenty of time to take photos with the Maiko, individually and in group. We were also given plenty of time to ask the Maiko and the tea house lady, "the way of Maiko/ Geiko", which is very insightful to Japanese culture. The Maiko that we had was very pretty and danced very well, and as formal as they might look, she was actually very friendly indeed. The kids loved it too, especially the game part. Worth every dollar and would rate it as a must do activity in Kyoto.

The tour was really good! we enjoyed it very much. The only thing I'd say is that for a moment there, the English translator stepped out of the room leaving us to talk to the maiko in Japanese. I think she did that because she saw I could speak a little Japanese, but my mother, who didn't, was kind of lost - I had to try to make conversation with the maiko and translate it myself for my mother. But it was only for a few minutes and I'm sure you can ask for the translator to stay with you the whole time. The explanations were very thorough and interesting and they answered every question we had. They were really kind and nice. we enjoyed it very much! I recommend!!!

A great experience that I would recommend to others. An opportunity to learn more about this historic way of life.
The time was well managed and gave us time to watch the Maiko perform and talk to us.
The Maiko we met had excellent English.
My advise would be, take photos but also give yourself time to enjoy the experience. It is unusual to be able to visit in a traditional tea house. Other friends who have been to Kyoto are quite envious of this opportunity.

I never imagined I could have a maiko all to myself in Gion. I really enjoyed talking with the maiko, watching their performances, and engaging in activities with them that I had only seen on TV. I think it's a great experience for friends or families to enjoy together.

The entire journey took 5 hours. I thought the roads might be clear, so I used the service on a Sunday. The rental location was very close to Kyoto Station, which made me feel very secure when returning the bike. This was a big plus. Moreover, the bicycles were well-maintained, providing a sense of safety with the brakes and tires. They were completely different from the mama-chari bikes offered by hotels.

Kyoto is said to be laid out like a grid, and that was definitely true. Once I figured out the general directions, I felt I could get around much more efficiently than by train. Especially in the Higashiyama area, where there are many attractions but limited train access, I often end up walking around and getting tired, so I felt like I really got my money's worth.

The route allowed me to efficiently visit my desired spots in a clockwise direction, covering the north, south, east, and west. There were few hills, and there were also side streets with little traffic, which made for a safer ride than I expected. The only real hills were a bit around Higashiyama. Above all, I was able to enjoy the "everyday Kyoto" that isn't featured in guidebooks at a leisurely pace, making for a very meaningful experience. It was nice to see the city from a local perspective.

If it's your first time in Kyoto, renting a bike and exploring on your own might be a bit challenging. Initially, the classic bus tours or indulging a bit with a charter taxi would be more convenient and reassuring. However, for repeat visitors who might want to revisit certain places at a more leisurely pace, this bike rental is definitely worth it.

Route taken: Total of 5 hours (including 30 minutes for lunch)
1. North from Kyoto Station: Shijo (along Muromachi Street), Nijo Castle, Ichijo Modoribashi, and Kamigamo Shrine.
2. From Kamigamo Shrine southeast: Kitayama Station and Shimogamo Shrine.
3. From Shimogamo Shrine to Higashiyama: Kyoto University, Ginkaku-ji, Philosopher's Path, and Nanzen-ji.
4. From Nanzen-ji back to Kyoto Station: Heian Shrine, Chion-in, Maruyama Park, Gion (lunch), crossing the Kamo River, passing Higashi Hongan-ji, and then to Kyoto Station.

全行程５時間。道路も空いているかな、と思い日曜日に利用しました。借りる場所が京都駅からすぐ近く、ということもあり、戻ってくる際もとても安心して利用できました。これはポイント高かったです。また、なにより、かなり自転車がちゃんと整備されていて、ブレーキやタイヤから感じる安心感がありました。ホテルが貸してくれる、ママチャリとはぜんぜん違います。笑

京都は碁盤の目といわれますが、まさにその通りで、だいたいの方向がわかれば、電車よりもずっと効率よくまわることができたように思いました。特に東山地区は見所が多い割には電車の便がよくないため、結局歩き回って疲れる、というパターンなので、とても得した気分でした。

コースは、ほぼ東西南北を時計まわりに、いきたいところに効率よくいけました。坂道も少なく、また大きな通りのちょっと脇道には車通りの少ない道もあるので、思っていたよりも安全に走行できたのもよかったです。坂といえるような坂は東山あたりで少しあったぐらいでしょうか。なによりも、ガイドブックにのっていない「普段の京都」をゆっくり楽しみながらまわれて、とても有意義な時間をすごせました。ローカルの目線で街をみれたのもよかった。

はじめての京都だと、自転車を借りて自分であちこちまわるのはちょっと厳しいかもしれません。最初はやはり定番のバス観光やちょっとだけぜいたくをしてチャータータクシーがずっと便利で安心しょう。でもリピータの方なら、あそこをもう一度、もうちょっとゆっくりみたかった、という方には、この自転車レンタルはとても価値高いと思います。

まわったコース：計５時間（うち３０分ランチタイム）
１、京都駅から北上：四条（室町通り沿い）、二条城、一条戻橋、上賀茂（賀茂別雷）神社へ。
２、上賀茂神社から南東へ：北山駅、下鴨（賀茂御祖）神社へ。
３、下鴨神社から東山へ：京都大学、銀閣寺、哲学の道、南禅寺へ。
４、南禅寺から京都駅まで：平安神宮、知恩院、円山公園、祇園（ランチ）、鴨川を渡り、東本願寺を経て、京都駅へ。

Every year, I visit a tea house that typically only accepts reservations for groups, but I wanted my family to experience it as well, so I made a reservation. Usually, we enjoy performances and games with 3 to 4 geisha and maiko, but since that can be quite expensive, we opted for the experience course instead.

To my surprise, we were able to enjoy matcha tea, watch a dance performance, and participate in games, making it a very cost-effective tour. I highly recommend it if you want a small group experience. While it’s understandable that the shamisen music is played from a CD, I was still very satisfied with the experience.

毎年仕事で一見様お断りのお茶屋さんに行ってますが、家族にもお茶屋さん体験をさせてあげたくて申し込みました、
いつもは舞妓さん、芸子さん、三味のお姉さんと３～４名で舞や遊びを楽しむのですがそれをすると金額が金額なので体験コースにしました。
思ったよりお薄をいただき舞を観られ、遊びも体験できてとてもコストパフォーマンスの高いツアーでした。少人数で体験したいならお勧めです。三味がCDとなるのは仕方ないことで十分満足させていただきました。

I strolled around Kyoto city in the morning and joined this course, which was set at just the right time in the evening. Although it lasted for 50 minutes, it was enough to talk with a maiko and catch a glimpse of Gion. Additionally, there were other friendly and attentive guides providing explanations, which made for a satisfying experience. The cost performance is not bad at all, but since it's not cheap, I rated it "4 stars." I recommend it for groups of 3 or 4 who are wondering what to do in the evening!

Far better than taking the bus or a train! The streets of Kyoto are filled with experiences full of scents and sounds that can only be experienced through a bike ride.

You really get a sense of how tall the Torii gate of Heian Shrine are when your ride right up to it!

Plus my guide was excellent!! Pacing me so that I was never bored or tired, she was full of knowledge, answering every question I had during the tour!

And when she caught those glimmers of interest in my eyes, she would quickly change the course such as showing me both the new and old Gojyo-bashi. Also when we happened to find a mini festival, she made a few additional stops for me to enjoy it!

The freedom you get when you have an excellent guide and a bike is your mode of transportation!

This course gave me the confidence to take on a longer course the next time I visit Japan!
