I experienced this with two friends. Since there were no other customers, we had the place to ourselves. There were many design options, and I was a bit indecisive, but I chose two patterns this time. We started with a smaller piece of fabric to practice before moving on to the main project. There was a little mishap where the wax accidentally dripped outside the outline, but with the teacher's advice, we managed to use the dropped wax to add a little design, and it turned out okay. After that, we experienced the dyeing process (though I feel like I was just chatting with my friends), and it was great that we could dry it with an iron and take it home right away. My friend brought in a sketch and did a great job with it. All three of us are saying we want to do it again. It was fun. Thank you!

デザインの種類が豊富で迷いましたが、今回は2パターンのデザインを選びました。
最初に小さめの布で練習してから本番に入ります。いきなり下絵じゃないところにぽちゃんとロウが落ちるハプニングもありましたが、
先生の助言もあり、落としたロウを利用してちょっとした柄を付け足したりして、何とか形なりました。
その後染めの工程を体験し(友人とお喋りしてただけのような気もしますが)、アイロンで乾かしてすぐにお持ち帰りできるのも良かったです。
友人は下絵を持ち込んで挑戦しましたが、かっこよく出来上がってました。
3人ともまたやりたいねーと言ってます。

Despite it being my first time, I chose to make a furoshiki. First, I selected the color of the furoshiki and the pattern. They lent me an apron and taught me how to do it, but the method varied depending on who was teaching, so I didn't rate it as "the best." It was challenging to achieve the subtle colors, but I lost track of time and became completely absorbed in it; it was a lot of fun. It took about two hours to complete. In the end, they neatly folded it, placed it in a box, and wrapped it up for me to take home.

まず、風呂敷の色を選び、型紙を選びます。
エプロンを貸して頂き、やり方を教えて頂きますが、教えてくださる方によってやり方が違うので、「最高でした」にはしませんでした。

I was nervous at first, but I became absorbed in my own world without looking at the samples... I ended up with a wonderful souvenir from my trip. Also, there were many students present, and I hope that among them, some will aspire to become artisans... I look forward to the transmission of traditional culture to the younger generation! I truly felt that Japanese culture is amazing.

Since I had time on my solo trip, I wanted to create something I could use in my daily life, so I chose to experience Yuzen dyeing on a cotton furoshiki. The design sample indicated it would take 2 to 3 hours, but I got a bit lost in the colorful options and ended up spending 5 hours from the time I arrived. Even so, I was able to work at a leisurely pace, and it was worth it because I ended up with something truly wonderful. I am very satisfied.

This experience was part of one of our best days in Kyoto! We greatly enjoyed experiencing this craft, this art. For us the fun went beyond just learning. It is a beautiful place to work, the staff were very helpful and well prepared. There was a slight language barrier as we speak little Japanese and the staff speaks little English. That barrier is really minor because the staff walk you through each step and are working next to you, ready to help as much or as little as you need. Plus, modern technology / translators help, too. We also had the added benefit of two Japanese women going through the experience with us; this made the day even better. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! If I ever get the chance to go back to Kyoto, this will definitely be on the top of my list of things to do. We highly recommend this to anyone interested and especially for crafty people.

It was a great experience. My design took 4 hours and 9 stencils. It turned out beautiful in my opinion. They packaged it up really nice at the end as well.

I was only shown about 10 designs to choose from, maybe because I was doing the advanced workshop and on a large piece of fabric. I got a quick intro on how it worked and how to paint and then I was left to my own devices. What I assume was the master craftsman would stop by every once in a while to see how things were going and look at my progress. Do not expect this to be a step by step class, but staff is available if you have questions. I jumped right into the advanced class as I am artist who loves painting and making things, but I don't recommend doing that if you are not comfortable painting. It is not as easy as just putting one color down in one area of the stencil, you need to layer colors, like just the petal of a flower needs red, black, and white; if you use just red, it will be flat.

I chose my favorite fabric and used a pattern to add color. If I didn't understand something, they kindly taught me right away. I arrived too early, but they let me start right away because of that. I want to make something different next time.

Carving thin lines was quite challenging in terms of applying the right amount of pressure, but I had a great time chatting with my friends while doing it. I struggled a bit with the gradation technique for the gold inlay, but it turned out surprisingly beautiful, and I ended up with a wonderful memory and souvenir!

We were heading out of the country the next day so the recommended doing the uchiwa as the fan would take too long to dry. Just around the corner from Nisiki market so awesome location. They provide you with everything you need. You need to speak Japanese.

I was able to change to an eco bag by paying the difference, even though it wasn't the course I initially selected.

They first explained about Yuzen dyeing and the specific methods, which I found easy to understand and helpful. There were so many types of templates to choose from, and it was fun to select one.

Deciding how to layer the colors while imagining the finished product can be quite challenging if you're not used to it. However, that thought process is also enjoyable.

The final product feels somewhat different from what I had envisioned, but I'm satisfied with it as it is. I had a great time and would love to experience this again if I have the opportunity. Thank you for the wonderful time!

申し込み時に選んだコースでなくても差額を払えば変更できるとのことでしたのでエコバッグに変更しました。
最初に友禅染についての説明と具体的なやり方を説明して下さったのですが、分かりやすくて良かったと思います。
型紙の種類がとてもたくさんあって選ぶのも楽しかったです。
色をどのように重ねていくか、出来上がりを想像しながらの作業は慣れないとなかなか難しいです。
でもその考える工程も楽しいものです。
出来上がりは何となく自分の思っていたものとは違う気がするのですが、コレはコレで良い出来じゃないかと満足です。
楽しかったのでまた機会があれば体験したいと思います。
楽しい時間をありがとうございました。

To start with the workshop looks amazing- running examples of professional work cover the walls and also what look like old tools and print rollers, as well as fabrics covered ceiling all together adding up to a great atmosphere. Our tutor was great, as was his assistant. They gave us lots of pointers whilst letting us crack on when we'd got the hang of the technique. There were lots of example designs to pick from- I'd had grand plans to draw out my own but gave up on this when I saw the topical and varied choices. The steps were straight forward - meaning by the end of the morning we both had an impressive finished product which will be a great reminder of Japan.
