I think it's fine if you're just looking to experience making wagashi. However, if your goal is to "enjoy" the experience, I would recommend looking for other places. The explanations and tasks were quite rushed, and while those who are good at following instructions might manage to keep up, those who are a bit clumsy will likely struggle. Since this was during a less busy time after the Go To campaign ended, I can only imagine it would be even more chaotic during the tourist season, so I can't really recommend it.
On the other hand, for those who want to have a quick 30-minute experience and don't have much time, it's conveniently located close to the station.
和菓子作りの体験をするだけならいいと思います。体験を「楽しむ」のを目的にするなら、他のところを探した方がよいかと…。かなり大急ぎの説明・作業で、要領の良い人は何とかついていけると思いますが、ちょっと不器用な人はきっとついていけません…。gotoがなくなり空いている時期でこうだったので、多分、観光シーズンなどはもっとバタバタになるのかと思うと、あまりオススメはできません。
逆に時間がないのできっちり30分で体験だけしたいという方には、駅からも近いし便利だと思います。

During the pandemic, the measures were well implemented. However, the pace was fast and it was quite challenging. I think it would be better if there was a time allocation to proceed a bit more slowly. The staff have to finish within the time limit, so I don't think there's much they can do about it.
Making simple wagashi (Japanese sweets) myself made me realize how difficult it is to shape them nicely. So, I wasn't able to do it very well!

Since it was a weekday, there were no other customers besides us, so we were able to enjoy a calm experience. It was fun to make four different types! I also got to practice, and I managed to create something that looks somewhat like traditional Japanese sweets, haha. The artisan provided a close-up lecture on seasonal wagashi (Japanese sweets). It was very easy to understand as I could see the process of shaping them using molds and wooden forms up close. I was thrilled to see the colorful sweets taking shape in my hands. We could experience making four different types of sweets, each with a unique shaping method. While concentrating on achieving a finish akin to that of the artisan, it was also fun to chat with my companions about how well we were doing. At the end, we had a snack time with matcha prepared alongside the final product we made. Before eating, I took plenty of photos of my beloved sweets and took a break. To top it off, the artisan kindly made a more challenging sweet for us as a special treat, creating each one in a different shape for each participant to choose and take home. There were also heartwarming stories shared about the artisan's experiences with sweets. They took great care in hygiene measures during the pandemic, making it a very meaningful time. It seems that the sweets change each month, so I would love to come back to make more when the seasons change.
季節の和菓子を職人さんが間近でレクチャーしてくれました。型押しや木型を駆使して成形していくところを近くで見れるのでとても分かりやすく、自分も同じように手のひらの中に色とりどりお菓子が形になっていく様子を実感出来て心が躍りました。4種のお菓子を体験出来るのですが、どれも成形の仕方が違い、職人さんバリの仕上がりを目指そうと集中しつつも、まわりの連れとうまく出来ているか会話しながら出来るのも楽しかった。最後に作った一品で用意してくださったお抹茶と一緒におやつタイムがあります。食べる前に自身の愛着のあるお菓子を写真にいっぱい撮りひと休憩。締めくくりに職人さんのサービスで、さらにワンランク難しいお菓子を作ってくださいました✨今回は特別(⁉︎)に参加人数分、ひとつひとつ違う形で作ってくださり選んで持ち帰らせて下さいました。ところどころ職人さんのお菓子体験で「あった事」のお話も微笑しい出来事でほっこりします。感染予防対策の中、衛生面もしっかりご用意してくださっておりとても有意義な時間でした。月毎に作るお菓子が違う様なので、季節が移り変わったらまた作りに来たいなと思いました。

If you're looking to make simple Japanese sweets, this is a great place! You can make them and order tea to enjoy right away; there's nothing more luxurious than that. The sweet bean paste was incredibly delicious too! For example, if it's a gift for someone, I thought it might be better to increase the budget a bit!

I participated for the first time! The instructor was very good at explaining and taught us while incorporating stories about wagashi (Japanese sweets) and their origins. The pace was a bit fast, making it challenging to keep up, but I managed to do quite well✨ They also reminded us frequently about the timing for sanitizing. It seems that the sweets we make change with the seasons, so I would like to go again. There's also Sanjusangendo nearby, so we can do some sightseeing on the way back.

I participated with my daughter, who is in the lower grades of elementary school. I had read in reviews that registration is not accepted until five minutes before the start, so we spent some time at Kyoto Station before walking over. It was a bit hot, but the scenery was nice and it was an easy-to-understand location, making it perfect for a stroll.
When we entered the room, there were long tables set up, and we were guided to sit by group. Materials and tools were prepared at our seats, and my daughter was excited! A young female staff member explained everything clearly at the front, but the pace of work varied among individuals, and especially since we were a slow-paced parent-child duo, there was a mismatch between the explanation and what we were doing. However, another staff member was walking around and kindly checked on us.
The activity involved something like clay work, where we colored white bean paste and kneaded it. The final product turned out reasonably well, but I thought that traditional Japanese sweets artisans are truly amazing. My daughter also had a fun experience and said she wanted to make more. However, she mentioned that the gloves for children were too big, making it difficult to work.
We each made two pieces, so we enjoyed two on the spot and took the rest home as souvenirs for our family. They were delicious, with a light sweetness and a moist texture.
I would like to try again when the season changes and different types of wagashi are available. Thank you for a wonderful time!
小学生低学年の娘と二人で参加しました。
集合の5分前まで受付されないとレビューで拝見していたので、京都駅で時間を潰してから徒歩で向かいました。
多少暑くはありましたが、景色も良く分かり易い場所でしたので、散歩がてらには丁度良かったです。
部屋に入ると長机が並んでおり、グループ毎に座れる様に案内して下さりました。
席には材料や道具などがセットされていて、娘もワクワク♪
若い女性のスタッフの方が前で分かり易く説明して下さりましたが、作業速度が個々でバラバラで、特に私達親子はスローペースだった為、説明とやっている事が合致しなかったのですが、別のスタッフの方が見回っておられて、優しく声を掛けて下さいました。
作業としては、粘土細工みたいで白餡に色を付けてコネコネ。
完成度はそれなりに出来上がりましたが、やはり和菓子職人は凄いなあと思いました。
娘も楽しく体験出来て、また作りたいと言っていました。
ただ、子供用の手袋が大きく、作業がしにくかったとの事でした。
1人２つづつ作ったので、その場で２つを2人で頂き、残りは家族にお土産として持ち帰りました。
あっさりとした甘さとしっとりとした舌触りでとても美味しかったです。
また季節が変わり、作る和菓子が変わったらチャレンジしたいと思います。

We found a wagashi (Japanese sweets) making experience while looking for something to do on the morning of our last day. My daughter loves making sweets, but this was her first attempt at wagashi. Using the prepared white bean paste and red bean paste, she worked hard while listening to the instructions. Thanks to the detailed explanations, we successfully completed it in about 30 minutes! During the week of Silver Week, I decided to take a late summer vacation and travel to Kyoto with a friend on a weekday after a four-day holiday. This time, I wanted to do something beyond just visiting famous spots, and inspired by a recent drama about wagashi (Japanese sweets) artisans, I signed up for a wagashi and tea ceremony experience.
Neither of us usually eats wagashi or drinks tea, so it was our first experience with both. However, the instructor taught us in a kind and enjoyable one-on-one manner, making it a very satisfying experience. Not only did we make and enjoy the sweets, but we also learned fundamental knowledge about wagashi and tea, which made it a truly valuable experience.
For the wagashi, I made cosmos and chrysanthemum flowers. My chrysanthemum didn't have the yellow bean paste sticking well, so it didn't look great. I learned that this happens when the bean paste dries out, making it difficult for the yellow to stick. I was impressed to see some other participants had made beautiful ones. It was reassuring to see others with similar results as mine.
Overall, it was a fulfilling experience to eat the wagashi and enjoy the tea ceremony.
シルバーウイークの週に少し遅い夏休みで、友人と４連休後の平日に京都へ旅行をすることに。
今回はどこか名所を巡るだけでないことをしたいと思い、また、最近和菓子職人のドラマもみていたことがきっかけで申し込んだのがこの和菓子とお点前体験でした。
普段は余り和菓子を食べたり、お茶を飲むこともなく、２人にとっても初めての和菓子とお茶の体験でしたが、先生がマンツーマンで優しく楽しく教えて頂いたので、とても満足できた体験となりました。ただ作って食べて楽しむだけでなく、和菓子やお茶の基礎知識も教えて頂き、とても貴重な経験となりました。
和菓子はコスモスと菊の花を、私の菊には中の餡子に黄色がうまくつかず、見た目は少しいまいちでした。これは餡子が乾くと黄色のくっつきが難しくなるからだそうです。他の体験者の写真の中には綺麗にできてる方もいて凄いなーと思いました。出来栄えの同じような方もいたので安心もしました。
そして和菓子を食べてお点前をいただき、とても充実した体験でした。

I participated in a monitoring tour this time. It was my first time making wagashi, and I made two pieces: a cosmos flower and a chrysanthemum, which took about 30 minutes to complete. I learned some interesting facts and quizzes about tea and wagashi, which was very informative. However, the explanations were a bit fast, and I felt rushed, as I was still in the middle of the process when the next explanation started. The experience itself was enjoyable. Also, I arrived a bit early, but I couldn't enter until just in time, so I had to wait outside in the heat, which I think should be improved.

I participated in a wagashi (Japanese sweets) making experience for the first time. The staff were very approachable and worked efficiently, which made the experience smooth. Since the activity takes place in a tatami room with pipe chairs, I think it can accommodate a wide range of ages. However, since you have to take off your shoes, it would be a good idea to bring socks if you're concerned about being barefoot.
As for COVID-19 measures, they ensured proper ventilation in the room, and everyone wore masks and gloves, and there was disinfection. The wagashi making was neither too difficult nor too easy, making it enjoyable for adults as well. I definitely want to participate again.

スタッフの方々はとても話しやすく、かつ、テキパキと動いておられたのでスムーズに体験することができました。
畳の部屋でパイプ椅子に座って体験を行うので広い年齢幅に対応できると思います。ただ、靴を脱ぐので裸足が気になる方は靴下等を持参すると良いと思います。
コロナ対策としては、部屋の換気・マスクと手袋着用・消毒をしていました。
和菓子作りは、難しすぎず簡単すぎず大人でも充分楽しめるものでした。

This time, I visited Kyoto with my mother and sisters for a girls' trip. I had been looking forward to making traditional Japanese sweets, as I have been interested in it for a long time. We got lost and arrived just in time for our meeting, but the staff kindly welcomed us, allowing us to start the experience with ease. We made two types of seasonal sweets (chrysanthemum and cosmos). I was a bit anxious about whether I could do it well since it was my first experience, but with the staff's clear explanations and demonstrations, we were able to proceed smoothly. It was a bit challenging to score each petal of the cosmos sweet with a spatula, but I was happy with how cute it turned out. The taste was also satisfying.

コスモスの御菓子の花びらを一枚一枚ヘラで筋を入れていくのは少し難しかったのですが出来上がりは可愛くできてよかったです。味も満足でした。
