After 47 years, I came to Iriomote Island, and even at 67 years old, it still excites me. Swimming with the turtles was amazing. The coral at Hatoma Island is just as wonderful as it was in the past. We participated in snorkeling at the Blue Cave and a mangrove canoe tour. It was a very informative tour as we learned interesting facts about Ishigaki Island on the bus. The staff spoke with such enthusiasm that we could feel their love for Okinawa and Ishigaki, which made us love Okinawa even more. I would have appreciated it if we could have taken a few more photos. If we have the chance to come back to Ishigaki Island, we would definitely like to participate in another activity. It was a lot of fun. Thank you very much.

The guide was very kind, and we had a time filled with smiles from start to finish!

I was able to encounter two coconut crabs that I had longed to see, along with crabs, hermit crabs, a scorpion-like creature, fireflies, and even wild boars from the car!
Also, I was worried that we might not see the stars because of the cloudy sky, but I was moved by the stunning starry sky!
I was sweating and soaking wet, but...

At Sefa Utaki, the guide provided explanations before our arrival, which was helpful when we actually explored the site. Gangala Valley offers a variety of plants and rare insects, and you can enjoy an adventurous experience by wandering through the caves with a lantern and taking in the views from the tree terrace. I was able to enjoy it more than I had expected. It was also nice to be dropped off at the airport at the end. Since you'll be walking outside, I think it's a good idea to prepare a change of clothes, especially if you're heading straight to the airport on the last day.

斎場御獄では、到着前にガイドさんが説明してくれたので、実際に見て回る時に参考になりました。

Since my flight was around 7 PM on the last day of my trip, I wanted to make the most of the half day and made a reservation two days prior. It happened to be a day of high tide, so we were able to take a route on the Nakama River cruise that usually cannot be accessed due to low water levels, allowing us to see mangroves that can only be found there. However, the water level was so high that the roots, which are a characteristic of mangroves, were almost submerged. I feel that experiencing the jungle-like atmosphere of the mangroves would be better during low tide. We sat on the right side of the boat, but since the boat traveled upstream along the left bank, I wished we had sat on the left side. (This also depends on the water level, so it can't be said definitively.)

On Yubu Island, we had 90 minutes of free time, including lunch. It takes less than an hour to walk around the entire island, so the time was sufficient. Since the return trip goes via Taketomi Island, if you have extra time, I recommend getting off at Taketomi Island to explore by rental bicycle or ox cart. You can ride an ox cart on Yubu Island, so personally, I think it's best to cycle around Kondoi Beach and Kaiji Beach.

Next time, I want to stay on Iriomote Island and enjoy more activities on the island.

旅行最終日が19時頃の飛行機だったので半日を有効活用したいと思い、二日前に予約を取りました。ちょうど大潮の日の満潮時だったので仲間川のクルーズでは普段水位が足りなくて通ることができないコースを通ることができ、そこでしか見られないマングローブを見ることができました。ただ、水位が高過ぎてマングローブの特徴である根っ子はほぼ水没していました。マングローブのジャングルらしさを味わうなら干潮時の方がいいような気がします。私達はボート右側に座ったのですが、ボートは左岸に沿って川を遡ったので左側に座れば良かったと思いました。（これも水位によって航行ルートが変わるので一概には言えませんが）
由布島では昼食を含めて90分の自由時間がありました。島全体は1時間もかからずに一周できるので時間は充分です。帰りは竹富島経由なので時間に余裕があるなら竹富島で降りて、レンタサイクルや牛車で島を観光することをお勧めします。由布島で牛車に乗れるので、個人的にはレンタサイクルでコンドイ浜やカイジ浜を回るのが良いかと。
次回は西表島に宿泊してもっと島内のアクティビティを楽しみたいです。

Although the weather was unfortunately bad during the rainy season, I was still able to see beautiful, transparent corals and tropical fish up close in the ocean. The guide provided explanations and took underwater photos, making snorkeling an immersive experience. For those bringing a camera, I recommend attaching a strap or similar to avoid dropping it in deeper areas of the sea.

During the mangrove canoe experience, I had a very refreshing time paddling through the jungle on my own. I was also able to see wildlife while navigating through the jungle, which added to the sense of adventure. The stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) that other participants were doing looked fun, so I would like to try that next time.

Additionally, throughout the tour, the guide shared various interesting facts about Ishigaki Island and kept the atmosphere lively, allowing me to bond with the other participants.

I was worried about the unstable weather, but I was able to enjoy stand-up paddleboarding comfortably in the morning. At first, it was challenging to maintain my balance, but as I got used to it, I was able to ride in various positions, and it was a lot of fun. I also got to get close to the mangroves and see the plants.

After a lunch break, the snorkeling in the afternoon turned into a battle against the weather. Despite the thunderstorm, we managed to reach the Blue Cave while keeping an eye on the conditions. Care is needed as we walked through areas with poor footing. The Blue Cave is very mystical, and I believe the water's color would have been beautiful if the weather had been good. Thankfully, we were able to snorkel just before it was canceled, so I was glad to achieve my goal. We also encountered a sea turtle.

I was satisfied with the sightseeing content, but the day before, I took a bus tour mainly in the southern region, and the bus guide at that time was very friendly. My impression after finishing the tour is that it would be difficult to cover such a course in one day on my own. I didn't have to drive, I could listen to the guide's announcements at various points, there were appropriate bathroom breaks, I could eat a delicious lunch without needing a reservation, and I could sleep if I felt drowsy. I was unsure about touring the northern area by rental car since I'm not good at driving, but I found a bus tour to the area I wanted to visit and decided to sign up. It turned out to be a great decision as it was very comfortable.

We were able to visit various places, and the admission fee to the Churaumi Aquarium was included in the price, making it a great deal. I enjoyed the scenery much more than I would have while nervously driving a rental car. The guide and the driver were both kind, and I'm glad I signed up!

運転が苦手なので、レンタカーで北部方面を巡るか迷っていたのですが、ちょうど巡りたい方面のバスツアーを見つけて申込してみたら、とても快適で参加しさて大正解でした。

During the rainy season on Miyako Island, there was heavy rain until the morning, but I received a message that I could change the time for the day. I was able to experience snorkeling and kayaking under the sun.

My companion, who is not a strong swimmer, wanted to try snorkeling, so we signed up for this tour. The instructor provided safety explanations and helped practice swimming in shallow water, allowing my companion to swim independently and see many beautiful fish up close, which was very moving.

We encountered clownfish and even a sea turtle, swimming together at close range, and we were able to capture videos as well.

Additionally, we kayaked at Imugya Marine Garden that day, gently paddling while swaying in the pleasant breeze and calm waves. The instructor also shared recommendations for local spots.
