Every time I come to Okinawa, I participate in an aquarium tour, but this was my first time joining a tour that included Pineapple Park. It was quite an impressive park, and the weather was nice, so I really enjoyed it. There were plenty of sweets and souvenirs made with pineapple, which added to the tropical vibe. After riding a water buffalo and enjoying a delicious lunch on Yubu Island, I rode a water buffalo again and rented a bicycle on Taketomi Island. The guide who accompanied us while we were on the water buffalo was interesting to talk to and was skilled at playing the sanshin. The connections between destinations were a bit challenging to navigate on my own. It was a fulfilling day that went by in a flash. You might need a bit of physical stamina as well.

I have fond memories of experiencing the water buffalo cart when I was a child, so this time I participated with my family. The tour itself was satisfactory with polite service from the ferry terminal, but the water buffalo cart, which I was looking forward to, was disappointing. Perhaps because our group was the largest (7 people), we were assigned to go last, even though we weren't the last to arrive. Additionally, since half of us, including my husband, were British, the guide hardly paid us any attention, and being at the back meant we could barely hear anything, which was quite disappointing.

I thought it would be tight on time to explore Mishima in one day, so I opted for a tour departing for Taketomi Island at 2:30 PM. Thanks to that, I was able to spend the morning enjoying an experience playing with dolphins, making it a meaningful day.

We departed from the Euglena Island Terminal at 2:30 PM and arrived at Taketomi Island in less than ten minutes. We boarded a microbus that took us to the water buffalo cart terminal station (laughs).

There, we checked in for the water buffalo cart ride and waited for our names to be called by the staff. Since the number of people who can ride the water buffalo cart is limited, they consider the size of the group when distributing spots.

After a few minutes of waiting, my name was called, and I boarded the water buffalo cart. From there, we embarked on a 30-minute city tour while listening to the guide's explanations and watching the buffalo's rear end (laughs). The buffalo knows the route and walks on its own, but the guide manages the pace, hurrying or stopping as needed to maintain distance from the cart in front.

While some roads on Taketomi Island are paved, the paths for the water buffalo cart are all unpaved sandy roads. We moved at a slower pace than a person walking, but the buildings and the trees and flowers planted here and there created a landscape that truly felt like "this is Okinawa! This is the Yaeyama Islands," which was moving. Sometimes the guide played the sanshin and sang, creating a nice atmosphere. It was amusing when the buffalo decided to take a break while the music was playing, causing the cart to stop.

We circled around the main street of the island and returned to the water buffalo gathering spot at the station where we started, where we disembarked. ２時半にユーグレナ離島埠頭を出港して１０分足らずで竹富島に到着。待っていたマイクロバスに乗って水牛車のターミナルステーション(笑)まで運んでもらえます。
そこで水牛車に乗る受付をして、係の人に名前を呼ばれるのを待ちます。水牛車に乗れる人数が限られるので先方がグループの人数などを考慮して配分してくれます。
待つこと数分で名前を呼ばれて水牛車に乗り込みます。それからは牛使いさんの説明を聞きながら水牛のお尻をずっと見ながら(笑)約３０分の市内周遊ツアーをすることになります。
牛さんは道順を覚えているので自発的に歩きますが、前の車との間隔などを配慮して牛使いさんが急がせたり止めたりしています。竹富島の道は舗装されているとこもありますが、水牛車が通る道は全て砂地の未舗装路です。そこをもったりもったり人が歩むより遅い速度で巡回するのですが、途中の建物やそこかしこに植えられた木や花が「これぞ沖縄！これぞ八重山諸島」という風景で感動します。時には牛使いさんが三線を弾いてアユタを歌ってきたりしていい感じ。音楽が流れている間中、牛さんが休憩してしまい水牛車が止まるのはご愛敬。島内のメイン通りをぐるっと回って出発したステーションのところにある水牛のたまり場？まで帰ってきてそこで下車です。
乗車記念で写真を撮ってもらえますが、それは名刺大くらいの小さなものなのでもっとはっきりした牛とのツーショットが欲しい場合は1,800円で購入です。うちは買いました。
それから帰港する船が出るまで約1時間くらいでした。レンタサイクルを利用すれば星の砂のビーチくらいまでは行けそうでしたが、自分たちはゆったり村内を回ることにしました。
あちこち見たり途中でバナナスムージーを飲んだりしてちょうどいい感じの時間配分でした。そこで最初にバスを降りたところから港へバスで送ってもらいます。そして帰りの船が来るまでお土産を見て回る時間もある位程度ありました。
乗ってきたのと同じ船に17時に乗って石垣へ帰ります。
船から降りると17時10分くらい。概ね2時間半くらいのツアーです。
半日遊ぶのにちょうどいい感じでした。時間的に「午後が空くなあ」と思ってる方にはおすすめです。

よく見るイメージ通りののんびりした空間・時間を味わいたい方、行ってみてください。

We participated with children. The main goal was Pineapple Park, as requested by the kids (which I think is unusual, haha). After receiving an explanation from the staff, while we were buying the cart tickets, a tour bus with an overseas group arrived, and since they already had their cart tickets, they cut in line ahead of us.

50 minutes wasn't enough time, and we rushed past the souvenir shop without being able to see it. Although it was a short time, I'm glad the kids seemed satisfied. The guide's stories were enjoyable. However, there was one part that felt rushed, and I wished we had more time to take it slow. The Pineapple Park was also crowded with carts, so we had to run back to the bus afterward. It would have been better to visit the candy castle at the end or skip it altogether. I would like to see options for going to Neo Park and other places as well. Since there are many locations based on the meeting hotel, I would prefer them to be divided by region.

My first time in Okinawa, and although the weather was unfortunate, the bus tour efficiently took us to the main tourist spots! The bus guide was quick and pleasant! Since I went with my daughter, we couldn't take many photos together, but I appreciate the bus guide for taking pictures for us. I think the time allocation at the Churaumi Aquarium was just right. The Pineapple Park was surreal but fun!

Unfortunately, it was rainy. We managed to make it to Manza Beach, but the Pineapple Park and Kouri Island that we were looking forward to were pouring rain. Fortunately, I had a folding umbrella, which helped a lot; without rain gear, it would have been a disaster.

I had heard there wouldn't be time for lunch, so it was a good decision to buy bread in advance. We were able to have a calm lunch without getting off at the Okashi Goten, as there were no other customers around.

The Churaumi Aquarium was amazing. In particular, the feeding of the whale sharks was breathtaking. I was thrilled to see them swimming vertically while eating.

On the way back, it was helpful that we scheduled a bathroom break early, anticipating traffic.

あいにくの雨模様でした。万座毛まではもちましたが、楽しみにしていたパイナップルパークと古宇利島はどしゃ降りでした。幸い折り畳み傘を持っていて助かりましたが、雨具がなかったら大変なことになっていました。
昼食の時間がないと聞いていたので事前にパンを買っていって正解でした。お菓子御殿で下車しないで、他のお客さんがいない中、落ち着いて昼食を取れました。
美ら海水族館は最高でした。特に、ジンベイザメの餌やりは圧巻。あの巨体を垂直にして立ち泳ぎしながら食事している姿に大興奮しました。
帰路、渋滞を見越して早めにトイレの時間を設けていただき助かりました。

The yanbaru tour that was canceled during my last trip to Okinawa has finally been rescheduled after two years. The weather was great, and the climate was mild, allowing me to enjoy my time. The lunch was satisfying in both taste and portion size, and I had a truly fulfilling day with visits to Cape Hedo, meeting Kuu-chan the Okinawa rail, and trekking at the Daichi Forest. Although I was traveling alone as an older person, I was able to meet two others of the same age who were also participating alone, which made me feel more at ease. The tour guide was also very attentive and kind, so I have no complaints. Thank you, everyone!

前回の沖縄旅行では中止になったやんばるツアー。
２年越しのリベンジとなりましたが天候もよく、気候も穏やかで気分よく過ごせました。
昼食は味、ボリュームとも大満足でしたし、辺戸岬、ヤンバルクイナのクーちゃん、あと大石林山のトレッキングなど本当に充実した一日でした。
年配の一人旅でしたが、同年配で一人で参加している２名の方と知り合えて安心することもできました。

I toured Mishima with my middle school and university children and participated in a bus tour on Taketomi Island. We enjoyed beautiful scenery everywhere, gained knowledge about plants and creatures during the mangrove journey, and the bus drivers guided us to wonderful sightseeing spots, sharing interesting insights about the local population and customs. There were also occasions where we could listen to traditional island songs played on the sanshin while riding a water buffalo cart, which was a lot of fun. The lunch featured local cuisine, which included some sweet dishes that didn't quite suit my taste, but I nearly finished everything. I'm really glad I participated in the tour.
