There were two guides. The veteran followed the newcomer, which made us feel at ease. They were well aware of the highlights and also pointed out great spots for photos. Along the way, they explained some rare creatures and plants. The lunch they prepared at Pinai Sara Falls was delicious 🤤 It was the best. On Balas Island, the conversations between the owner and the newcomer, as well as between the old turtle and the newcomer, were enjoyable and very healing. Balas Island 🏝️ was truly full of coral. I was a bit anxious about snorkeling 🤿 since it was my first experience, but I gradually got used to it, and when I saw a sea turtle, I couldn't help but shout. I definitely want to go again if I have the chance.

The weather was perfect, and I had a fulfilling experience with morning canoeing and trekking, followed by an afternoon visit to Yufu Island. The canoeing and trekking had just the right level of difficulty and duration, and reaching the waterfall gave a sense of accomplishment. The lunch enjoyed in front of the impressive waterfall was delicious as well. I also had a relaxing time at Yufu Island.
During the tour and while moving around, the guide shared various stories about the flora and fauna and life on Iriomote Island, making the experience enjoyable.

The instructor was very kind and provided detailed guidance, and I enjoyed the delicious onigiri. I had a great time spending more than half a day there. It became the best day on Iriomote Island and created wonderful memories. I'm glad I participated. I highly recommend it.

I was a bit anxious about whether I would be able to handle the experience due to my age, so I signed up for this. Our guide, Eli, was very kind and taught us a lot. We progressed slowly while learning various things during the trekking, which was great. I was able to swim in the long-awaited waterfall basin, and the rice balls we had afterward were very delicious. It's nice that there was lunch included in the half-day tour. I participated in a mangrove canoeing and trekking tour to the top of Pinai Sara Falls. The time spent canoeing was peaceful and relaxing, making it a truly precious experience. From the top of Pinai Sara Falls, I saw the clear blue sky with crowned eagles soaring, and beyond the rugged jungle forest and hills, the blue sea of the coral reef sparkled. It was the best view I have ever seen, and I will never forget it.

I also experienced mangrove canoeing in Ishigaki Island and Amami Oshima, but the canoeing in Iriomote Island was the most interesting. With the guidance of our guide Yume, we were able to paddle deep into the mangroves from the wide river.

I participated in a tour of Yubu Island and a mangrove canoe tour. Unfortunately, we couldn't go to Barasu Island due to the weather.
Yubu Island has cute water buffalo and beautiful nature, and I really enjoyed it. There were also animals and birds along the way to Yubu Island, which was a lot of fun.
It was my first time kayaking in the mangroves, and I had a great time. I've often seen photos of mangrove tunnels, but the mangroves we visited were quite small, so I hope to see larger ones next time.
Before going on the canoe tour, we were told that the guide would take photos with a GoPro, so we didn't need to bring our smartphones. However, our guide used something like a digital camera instead. All the photos had a foggy appearance in the middle. I thought it might be mist, but since the same area was white, I believe it was due to lens fogging. I wanted to capture great memories in photos, but they didn't turn out well, which is disappointing. I wish they had used a GoPro instead. I wonder if it varies by guide.

The ferry to Uehara Port was canceled, so we headed from Ohara Port instead. This is my second time on Iriomote Island, but it was the first time I experienced such cold weather in March. I was disappointed that the snorkeling at Barasu Island was changed to canyoning and canoeing, but thanks to the tour instructors Taro and Yume, we were able to create very enjoyable memories. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, sharing many stories about the islands during our travels, which made it enjoyable. We had a fulfilling day riding in an ox cart and paddling a canoe to see the mangroves.
One disappointing aspect was that I had imagined we would be able to explore deeper into the jungle while canoeing, but in reality, we only paddled a little on a large river and landed at a small area with mangroves for a brief walk, which was a bit different from what I had envisioned.

I was told to take the 8 AM ferry from Ishigaki Island, but when I arrived at the ferry terminal, I was informed that they were doing maintenance and it was uncertain if it would leave at 8. I panicked a bit, but when I called to confirm, they smoothly assured me that the 8:30 ferry would be fine.
The explanation for the canoeing was easy to understand. Since it was my third time canoeing, I was able to get on smoothly. They also provided explanations about the mangroves. We enjoyed a leisurely float, even with some canoe traffic.
Once we reached the point, we started trekking. We climbed along a bumpy path while receiving explanations about the plants and taking photos. It was hot under the blazing sun, and I was sweating a lot. But we finally arrived safely.
The waterfall was flowing down with incredible force, and the splashes felt great. With most of the other tour participants having left, it felt almost like a private experience—so luxurious!
While enjoying the magnificent waterfall, we had handmade rice balls. They were large, but the rice was delicious, and I finished them all. Thank you for the meal!
I dipped just my feet into the Takitsubo, and it was cold. Before I knew it, my sweat had dried, and I started to feel a bit chilly, so we set off. We slowly made our way back to the canoe landing.
The canoe traffic on the way back was a stark contrast to the earlier congestion, and we floated leisurely. All I could hear were the sounds of birds. Was it a crested serpent eagle? Or a peacock? The breeze and sunlight felt just right, making it very pleasant.
After that, we rode a water buffalo cart to Yufu Island. While on the cart, they played the sanshin. It was so relaxing. Go, water buffalo!
Upon arriving at Yufu Island, we leisurely toured while eating gelato. We also observed the golden pupae before heading back.
It was a very fulfilling and enjoyable day from the morning. I am extremely satisfied.
石垣島から８時のフェリーに乗ってきてと言われていましたが、当日フェリー乗り場に行くと、点検修理してるので８時に出るか分からないと言われプチパニック。電話で確認すると８時半のフェリーでも大丈夫とすんなり対応してくださいました。

すごい勢いで流れ落ちれる滝。水しぶきが気持ちいい〜。他のツアーの方も帰られほぼ貸切状態。贅沢〜〜。
壮大な滝を見ながら手作りおにぎりいただきました〜。大きかったけどお米が美味しく、ペロリと完食〜〜。ごちそうさまでした。
タキツボへは足だけチャプチャプつかりにいきました。冷たかったです〜。いつのまにか汗もひき微妙に寒く感じてきた頃合いに出発。来た道をゆっくり戻ってカヌー乗り場まで。
行きしなのカヌー渋滞が嘘のよう〜貸切状態でのんびりぷかぷか。聞こえるのは鳥の鳴き声。カンムリワシかな？クジャクかな？風も日光もいい感じでとても気持ちいい。
その後は水牛車に乗って由布島へ〜。
水牛車に乗りながら三線引いてくださいました。のんびりー。水牛さん頑張って〜。
由布島到着。ジェラート食べながらゆっくり観光〜〜。金色蛹も観察して帰路へ。
朝からとても充実した楽しい1日でした〜。大満足です。

I participated in the mangrove canoeing and Yufu Island course.
Although the weather was unfortunate, I was able to enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by mangroves while canoeing. On Yufu Island, I also had a fulfilling time taking pictures with water buffalo and visiting a café.

It was an incredibly fun and unforgettable experience! In the morning, we paddled through the mangroves in a canoe, enjoying the quiet and mysterious mangrove forest. After that, we went trekking to see a waterfall. The power and beauty of the waterfall were breathtaking. It felt like we were on an adventure!
In the afternoon, we took a water buffalo cart to tour Yubu Island. In February, when I participated, it seems to be a season with a lot of rain in Iriomote Island, so I was keeping an eye on the weather forecast two weeks before the tour. At the last minute, the forecast changed to cloudy, and somehow I was able to participate in the tour without any rain!
As a couple aged 59 and 65 who don’t exercise at all, we were fortunate that we were the only participants, so our guide, Mr. O, kindly taught us how to handle the canoe according to our pace.
While trekking through the jungle, he matched our pace and explained the scenery and trees along the way, making it a fun stroll. In areas where the cave ceiling was low, even when I struggled to get through, he patiently encouraged me, for which I am very grateful. I had a truly valuable experience kayaking in the real darkness and quiet after sunset. The darkness made the bioluminescent plankton look beautiful, as I could barely see a few meters ahead. In that peaceful space, the only sounds were the water splashing from the kayak and the calls of owls, allowing me to fully enjoy nature in a way that is not possible in the city.

I usually live in the city and signed up for this tour in search of nature. Unfortunately, I couldn't go to Barasu Island during the winter, but I had a great time participating in the tour.
