Despite many tours being canceled due to heavy rain from the previous day, we were offered flexible options: "Since the snorkeling is off due to the murky sea, we can go to Pinai Sara Falls, 1) finish in half a day, 2) include cave exploration, 3) head to Yubu Island, etc. What would you like to do?"
The Pinai Sara Falls were impressive due to the increased water flow from the rain! I felt fortunate to hear, "You rarely see such a powerful waterfall." Canoeing was not difficult, but the trekking involved ups and downs, and we had to wade through the flowing water. Those who aren't used to exercising might find it physically demanding.
In the afternoon, after having lunch, we were allowed to go on a "cave exploration." The natural limestone cave was completely different from the touristy ones, and it was also flooded, so we explored while wading up to our knees, which felt like a true "great adventure." This was more thrilling than snorkeling, and in the end, it was exciting, so I think it turned out well.
前日からのガッツリ雨で中止となるツアーも多い中、こちらは「シュノーケリングは海が濁ってしまっているのでなし、ピナイサーラの滝に行って、1) 半日で終わり、2) +洞窟探検、3) +由布島に向かう、などできますがどうしますか？」といくつかフレキシブルにオプションを提示してもらいました。
ピナイサーラの滝は雨で増水していたので大迫力！「こんなに激しい滝はめったにない」と言ってもらえたのでそれはそれで得した気分でした。カヌーは難しさもなかったですが、トレッキングはアップダウンがあり、水の流れにもじゃぶじゃぶ入りながら進んでいきます。運動してない人は体力使うかも。
お弁当を食べての午後は「洞窟探検」をさせてもらいました。自然のままの鍾乳洞は観光地化されたそれとはまったく様子が違い、またこちらも増水していて膝下まで浸かりながら鍾乳洞をくぐりながらの探検で、文字通り「大冒険」といった感じでした。シュノーケリングよりこちらのほうがスリリングで、結果ワクワクできたのでよかったかもです。
天候がどうであれ、アクティブに動きたいというヒトにはぴったり。モンスーンのサービス精神旺盛なスタッフさんたちと、ワイルドな一日を過ごしてください。

Although the cloudy sky prevented us from seeing a starry night, it was an incredibly fulfilling night tour that made us forget about it. Watching the sunset and the sky gradually darkening from the river was truly magical.
Paddling through the calm waters in a kayak, we explored the nighttime mangrove forest. The sounds of birds and the sight of bats flying around were exhilarating!
What impressed me the most were the bioluminescent plankton. The shimmering surface of the water felt like we were in another world.
Even without stars, it was a wonderful experience that allowed us to fully appreciate the mysteries of nature. If you visit Iriomote Island, I highly recommend joining this tour!

In the morning, we went kayaking to Pinai Sara Falls and trekking in the forest, and in the afternoon, we did snorkeling at Barasu Island.
First, we moved from the meeting point to the tour company, packed only the necessary items into a mini backpack, and set off.
The forest leading to the falls had many muddy areas and puddles, so we walked in water shoes provided by the company.
We reached the falls by kayaking and trekking, and our guide shared information about the island and plants, making the journey enjoyable throughout.
Upon arriving at the falls, those who wanted to could swim in the plunge pool and jump into it. Looking up from the plunge pool, the view of Pinai Sara Falls was breathtaking. The lunch of rice balls and fried chicken enjoyed in the great outdoors was also delicious.
In the afternoon, we went snorkeling at Barasu Island. Since there were no beginners in snorkeling, there were no special instructions, and we could swim freely around the boat at each point. (Barasu Island landing + turtle point, table coral point)
We were able to see several sea turtles up close, and at the table coral point, we spotted colorful fish, including the palette surgeonfish.
We thoroughly enjoyed the sea and mountains of Iriomote Island in one day!

滝まで到着すると、希望者は、滝つぼで少し泳ぎ、滝つぼへのジャンプもしました。
滝つぼから上を見上げて見える、ピナイサーラの滝は迫力満点でした。
大自然の中で食べるお昼のおにぎりと唐揚げも美味しかったです。
午後はバラス島シュノーケリングでした。
シュノーケリングは初めての方もいなかったので、特に説明等はなく、各ポイントにつくと自由に船の周辺で泳ぐような形式でした。

ウミガメについてはものすごく近くで数匹見ることができ、テーブルサンゴのポイントでは、カラフルな魚たち、ナンヨウハギも見ることができました。

There were two guides. The veteran followed the newcomer, which made us feel at ease. They were well aware of the highlights and also pointed out great spots for photos. Along the way, they explained some rare creatures and plants. The lunch they prepared at Pinai Sara Falls was delicious 🤤 It was the best. On Balas Island, the conversations between the owner and the newcomer, as well as between the old turtle and the newcomer, were enjoyable and very healing. Balas Island 🏝️ was truly full of coral. The weather was perfect, and I had a fulfilling experience with morning canoeing and trekking, followed by an afternoon visit to Yufu Island. The canoeing and trekking had just the right level of difficulty and duration, and reaching the waterfall gave a sense of accomplishment. The lunch enjoyed in front of the impressive waterfall was delicious as well. I also had a relaxing time at Yufu Island.
During the tour and while moving around, the guide shared various stories about the flora and fauna and life on Iriomote Island, making the experience enjoyable.

From the top of Pinai Sara Falls, I saw the clear blue sky with crowned eagles soaring, and beyond the rugged jungle forest and hills, the blue sea of the coral reef sparkled. I participated in a tour of Yubu Island and a mangrove canoe tour. Unfortunately, we couldn't go to Barasu Island due to the weather.
Yubu Island has cute water buffalo and beautiful nature, and I really enjoyed it. There were also animals and birds along the way to Yubu Island, which was a lot of fun.
It was my first time kayaking in the mangroves, and I had a great time. I've often seen photos of mangrove tunnels, but the mangroves we visited were quite small, so I hope to see larger ones next time.
Before going on the canoe tour, we were told that the guide would take photos with a GoPro, so we didn't need to bring our smartphones. However, our guide used something like a digital camera instead. All the photos had a foggy appearance in the middle. I thought it might be mist, but since the same area was white, I believe it was due to lens fogging. The ferry to Uehara Port was canceled, so we headed from Ohara Port instead. This is my second time on Iriomote Island, but it was the first time I experienced such cold weather in March. One disappointing aspect was that I had imagined we would be able to explore deeper into the jungle while canoeing, but in reality, we only paddled a little on a large river and landed at a small area with mangroves for a brief walk, which was a bit different from what I had envisioned.

I was told to take the 8 AM ferry from Ishigaki Island, but when I arrived at the ferry terminal, I was informed that they were doing maintenance and it was uncertain if it would leave at 8. I panicked a bit, but when I called to confirm, they smoothly assured me that the 8:30 ferry would be fine.
The explanation for the canoeing was easy to understand. Since it was my third time canoeing, I was able to get on smoothly. They also provided explanations about the mangroves. We enjoyed a leisurely float, even with some canoe traffic.
Once we reached the point, we started trekking. We climbed along a bumpy path while receiving explanations about the plants and taking photos. It was hot under the blazing sun, and I was sweating a lot. But we finally arrived safely.
The waterfall was flowing down with incredible force, and the splashes felt great. With most of the other tour participants having left, it felt almost like a private experience—so luxurious!
While enjoying the magnificent waterfall, we had handmade rice balls. They were large, but the rice was delicious, and I finished them all. Thank you for the meal!
I dipped just my feet into the Takitsubo, and it was cold. Before I knew it, my sweat had dried, and I started to feel a bit chilly, so we set off. We slowly made our way back to the canoe landing.
The canoe traffic on the way back was a stark contrast to the earlier congestion, and we floated leisurely. All I could hear were the sounds of birds. Was it a crested serpent eagle? Or a peacock? The breeze and sunlight felt just right, making it very pleasant.
After that, we rode a water buffalo cart to Yufu Island. While on the cart, they played the sanshin. It was so relaxing. Go, water buffalo!
Upon arriving at Yufu Island, we leisurely toured while eating gelato. We also observed the golden pupae before heading back.
It was a very fulfilling and enjoyable day from the morning. I am extremely satisfied.

カヌーは3度目だったのでスムーズに乗れました。マングローブの説明もしてくださいました。カヌー渋滞もありつつのんびりぷかぷか。
ポイントに付き、トレッキング開始〜。凸凹道を登り、植物の説明など受けながら写真撮影もしていただきよっこらしょ。お日様にガンガン照らされて暑。汗だくになりつつ、よっこらどっこい。無事到着〜。
すごい勢いで流れ落ちれる滝。水しぶきが気持ちいい〜。他のツアーの方も帰られほぼ貸切状態。贅沢〜〜。
壮大な滝を見ながら手作りおにぎりいただきました〜。大きかったけどお米が美味しく、ペロリと完食〜〜。ごちそうさまでした。
タキツボへは足だけチャプチャプつかりにいきました。冷たかったです〜。いつのまにか汗もひき微妙に寒く感じてきた頃合いに出発。来た道をゆっくり戻ってカヌー乗り場まで。
行きしなのカヌー渋滞が嘘のよう〜貸切状態でのんびりぷかぷか。聞こえるのは鳥の鳴き声。カンムリワシかな？クジャクかな？風も日光もいい感じでとても気持ちいい。
その後は水牛車に乗って由布島へ〜。
水牛車に乗りながら三線引いてくださいました。のんびりー。水牛さん頑張って〜。
由布島到着。ジェラート食べながらゆっくり観光〜〜。金色蛹も観察して帰路へ。
朝からとても充実した楽しい1日でした〜。大満足です。

Thanks to the instructor's very clear explanations, I was able to enjoy canoeing! Unfortunately, the weather in Yufushima in the afternoon was not great, but I had a valuable experience riding the water buffalo cart, and I really enjoyed it!

I participated in the mangrove canoeing and Yufu Island course.
Although the weather was unfortunate, I was able to enjoy a relaxing time surrounded by mangroves while canoeing. On Yufu Island, I also had a fulfilling time taking pictures with water buffalo and visiting a café.
There were strong winds, and the ferry to Uehara Port was canceled, so we had to switch from SUP to canoeing. However, I received a thorough explanation about these changes over the phone the day before, which was very helpful.
I would like to visit again next time!
マングローブのカヌーと由布島のコースに参加させていただきました。
天気は生憎でしたが、カヌーにのっていくと、マングローブに囲まれ、のんびりした時間を過ごすことが出来ました☺️
由布島でも、水牛と写真を撮ったりカフェに行ったりと、充実した時間を過ごせました。
風が強く、上原港までのフェリーが出ない、SUPがカヌーに変更になってしまうなどもありましたが、それらについても前日の電話でしっかりと説明して頂き、とても助かりました。
また来た際には伺いたいと思います！

The pitch darkness of Iriomote Island made the countless stars in the night sky shine brilliantly, which was truly moving. I was also amazed by the glowing plankton sparkling in the water with just a gentle movement of the paddle. This was my fourth time canoeing, but it was my first time at night, and it was such an enjoyable experience that time flew by too quickly; I wished I could have gazed at the night sky for even longer.

I was reminded once again that nature is truly the best. Canoeing and visiting Yufu Island was so much fun! It felt extraordinary and really cleansed my soul. I think it's perfect for resetting your mind. There's no point in just talking about it; you should experience it for yourself.
