On my first visit to Iriomote Island, I thought I would have a special experience, so I booked a night tour. While listening to the detailed explanations from the guide, we entered a jungle that we would never have ventured into on our own, and we were able to see various creatures like large coconut crabs, habu snakes, and crabs! Although I was a bit scared of the bugs and the habu, I felt very safe with the guide. Unfortunately, due to the rain, we couldn't see the starry sky, but it was an exciting and wonderful experience! I experienced a night tour on Iriomote Island for the first time. Thanks to Shun's attentive and detailed guidance, I had a very enjoyable time! The weather was also favorable, and I encountered 5 to 6 coconut crabs, owls, habu snakes, crabs, and even clownfish, experiencing a variety of ecosystems that I wouldn't normally encounter. It was the start of the rainy season, but the light rain stopped, creating just the right climate. After finishing dinner, my 4-year-old son, full of enthusiasm with his headlamp on, was invited by our guide Yuya to go out, and he was already super excited in the car on the way. After applying insect repellent, we headed into the forest. As we carefully descended a muddy slope with puddles, my son exclaimed, "A snake!" When I looked down, there was a habu slithering beside us! My son, who spotted the first creature, was full of confidence! We continued to find various night creatures like crabs, frogs, and spiders, while listening to Yuya's explanations, and we even spotted several coconut crabs moving slowly. I was delighted to see my son imitating Yuya, aiming his headlamp and proudly saying, "I took a picture!" Both parents were very satisfied.

Although we couldn't observe the stars due to the cloudy sky, we were able to spend more time observing the creatures, which might have made it the best experience for my son. It was a night of exploration that the whole family enjoyed together.

梅雨入りでしたが小雨が止んでちょうど良い気候でした。夜ご飯を食べ終わりヘッドライトをつけた息子4歳はやる気満々です。ホテルへお迎えに来たガイドのユーヤさんにも、行くか！と誘われ、行きの車内で既に大興奮。虫除けスプレーをして森の中へ。水たまりで泥濘む坂道をそろそろと降りていくと、ヘビだ！と息子の第一声！ほんとか〜と足元を見るとハブがニョロニョロと隣を進んでいました！1番に生き物を見つけた息子は自信満々です！その後もカニやカエル、クモなどユーヤさんの説明を受けながら次々と夜の生き物を見つけていき、ノソノソ歩くヤシガニも何匹か見つけられました。生き物の写真を撮るユーヤさんの真似をして、ヘッドライト向けては、撮りました！と得意げな息子に父母2人も大満足でした。
曇り空で星空観察は叶いませんでしたが、その分、生き物観察に時間をかけられたので、息子にとっては最高だったかもしれません。家族みんなで楽しめた夜の探検でした。

The day I participated, the weather wasn't good and I couldn't see the stars, but I was able to see six coconut crabs. We got out of the car at the end of a dark road and, relying on the light on our heads, we ventured into the dark forest, feeling a bit scared of the darkness and insects. Within a minute, the guide found a coconut crab. As we continued, the guide mentioned that it was a good start, and every five minutes or so, we encountered more coconut crabs and large hermit crabs about the size of a finger (which are also a natural monument). Later, we even came across a group of hermit crabs (which was a bit scary).

Along the way, we also spotted a habu snake, which added to the thrill, but neither the habu nor the coconut crabs seemed aggressive towards us. Following the guide's instructions and moving calmly made for a reassuring tour. I hope to see the stars next time; while not everything went as expected, I thought that participating leisurely might lead to unexpected enjoyment.

真っ暗な道の突き当たりで車を降りて、頭につけたライトを頼りに真っ暗な森の中を暗闇や虫にビビりながら踏み込んでいくと、一分もしないうちにガイドさんがヤシガニを見つけました。
幸先良いですよ〜とのお話の中、更に突き進むと
５分おきくらいにヤシガニや、指の長さくらいの大きなヤドカリ（おかやどかり？　こちらも天然記念物とのこと）に会うことができました。その後、ヤドカリの集団にも出会えました（それがちょっと怖かったです）。
途中ハブも見つかり、スリリングな感じでしたが、ハブもヤシガニも人に向かってくるような感じはありませんでした。
ガイドさんのいうことを聞いて、落ち着いて動けば安心できるツアーでした。
今度は星が見れたらいいなーと、全て期待通りにはなりませんが、次へ楽しみとしてのんびり参加すると意外楽しめるのかなと思いました。

We participated as a couple. The jungle cruise in complete darkness was amazing. The excitement of spotting a scorpion, a lizard, and a coconut crab made me feel like a child again, even at nearly 60 years old. Additionally, the starry sky on the beach and the distant blinking of the Omaezaki lighthouse were breathtaking. It was a truly precious experience. Above all, the guide's explanations were thorough, detailed, and fascinating, which made it even better. It became a cherished memory of Ishigaki Island.

Under the wonderful guidance of Mr. Bandi, we had an amazing time seeing four coconut crabs, two habu snakes, and even a purple land hermit crab! It was a great memory to gather around the purple land hermit crab and cheer it on as it returned to its shell. We also got to see the Geminid meteor shower, and the wild cat drive was fantastic... I was unsure about what to do since the rain forecast meant we wouldn't be able to see the starry sky, but I'm glad I went.

It was raining, but thanks to the leaves on the trees during the night tour, we surprisingly didn't get too wet.

Starting with the frogs I saw for the first time, I was able to see various creatures, including a light green gecko, beautiful purple crabs, and red crabs. The satisfaction of finally spotting the wild coconut crab that everyone was looking for was quite high.

The two guides were friendly and easy to talk to, and I had a great time exploring with the other tour participants.

If I come back to Iriomote Island, I would love to join this tour again and hopefully see the Milky Way next time.

Thank you for making this trip enjoyable even in the rain.

Although I was a bit anxious due to the rain just before the night tour, I had an amazing time. From the moment we arrived, the starry sky was beautiful, and I was so moved to see fireflies that all my worries disappeared! We then ventured into the jungle, where our tour guide provided detailed explanations, and we were able to spot many creatures like coconut crabs and giant land crabs at various spots.

I will never forget the starry sky we saw on the sandy beach! I had no idea there were such beautiful stars. As beginners in night tours, we had a fantastic experience. I definitely want to come back to Iriomote Island! Please let us join the tour again next time!!!

This was my second night tour. When we met, I was told that since it was cloudy, cancellation was possible, but I really wanted to participate this time, so I asked not to cancel.

I was worried it might be cloudy, but fortunately, it was clear on the day, and I was able to see a perfect starry sky. I've been to several places with beautiful starry skies, but this might be the best. It was really great.

The instructions for the meeting place were unclear, yet they showed displeasure for not arriving on time. There were no other tour participants, so it wasn't a situation where anyone would be inconvenienced. I didn't feel any hospitality. I didn't see a single animal. I would have been better off relaxing in my room. I cannot recommend this at all.

待ち合わせ場所の指示が不明確なのが悪いのに、時間通りにつかなかったことに不機嫌をあらわにしてくる。他のツアー参加者もおらず、誰に迷惑かかる状況でもないのに。ホスピタリティを感じない。1匹も動物も見れなかった。これなら部屋でゆっくりしてたほうがマシだった。全くお勧めできない。

When I was abroad, I often got to see coconut crabs, but I was actually surprised to see such large coconut crabs here as well. It felt just like being overseas... (laughs) Jungle exploration is great, but for me, the starry sky was truly moving. The guide was someone who understood how to enjoy the experience from the customer's perspective, going beyond just being a regular guide. They not only showed us how to look at the sky but also taught us about the positions of the constellations and even how to take photos of the starry sky with an iPhone.
