I am very grateful for their help; without the guide's advice and support, I don't think I would have been able to climb at all, given my lack of experience in the mountains. The walking pace was about twice my usual speed, which was quite challenging, but they made sure to take regular breaks, maintaining a perfect pace until we arrived.

I went with three friends, but my stamina wasn't enough to reach Jomon Sugi, so we gave up at Wilson Sugi. Thanks to our guide, who provided various options and suggestions, we still had an enjoyable experience even though we couldn't make it to Jomon Sugi. The guide was knowledgeable about Yakushima's nature, and the explanations along the way were interesting. I hope to have a chance to try again someday. Being alone allowed me to move quickly, and although the original course was supposed to be 30 minutes, they guided me through a 50-minute course. This was a beginner-friendly hiking course, perfect for someone like me. Since it was a bit chilly and drizzling, I wore a waterproof windbreaker over my ultra-light down jacket, along with trekking shoes and rain pants. At one point, there was even some snow falling.

Given that it was the off-season, I was able to explore thoroughly, making it a valuable tour.

やはり1人なので回るのも早く本来30分コースらしいですが50分コースを案内してくださいました。
私のようなハイキング初心者向けのコースです。山なので少し寒いのと小雨だったのでウルトラライトダウンの上に防水ウインドブレーカーを羽織り、下はトレッキングシューズ、レインパンツの格好です。途中雪が散ってました。
閑散期もあり、じっくりまわれて価値あるツアーでした。

A wonderful day even if the weather was bad the first hours of walking (rain). The misty forest, the big old and mysterious trees and the little world of the moss are so beautiful and well preserved! We were two with the guide (who speaks English contrary of what is written on the website). Read that some people had problems with the guide but he has done the job seriously. Yes he walks quickly sometimes, but we have no choice: we need to go down for the last bus. The problem is the bus schedule (which should pass one hour later), definitely not the guide! So he knows exactly what he's doing, we walked quite well and we finally arrived 10 minutes before the bus departure! If you feel that you are not in condition to walk quickly in hard mountain road (the last kilometers) it's better to give up this activity, and please don't try it without a guide during winter because we saw a few irresponsible guys underestimating the dangers of nature (no crampons on icy path, no warm clothes, walking late...)! Personally, I like this kind of guide who looks severe at the beginning, but little by little you discover that he just ask you to do what you need to do. He is kind too: giving some of his hot miso soup for lunch, taking lots of beautiful photos for you (because I must say it's hard to take photos by yourself, no time to fool around), giving very useful crampons for walking in the snow (two minutes to put it on your shoes), talking with you... Finally it was an amazing natural and human experience!

We participated as a family of five. Since it was cold, we dressed quite warmly, but while walking, we ended up getting hot and sweating. However, when we stopped for a moment, it became cold again. We rented raincoats, but wearing a fleece under the raincoat was sufficient. My gloves were also too warm, so I think using work gloves would be better. There were more ups and downs than I expected, which made me a bit anxious at first, but our guide taught us how to walk, move our feet, and breathe, so I was able to trek with peace of mind. Along the way, we enjoyed discussions about plants and explanations about cedar trees.

After walking for about two hours, we found a restroom and used it. On the way back, we retraced the same route, but I felt quite a strain on my knees going downhill. My wife and I participated in a tour together. We decided to join because it was possible to participate until the age of 70, but I have some mountain climbing experience while my wife is almost a beginner. From the start of the trek on the trolley path, she was a bit slow, and once we finished the trolley path and began the actual climb, it became quite challenging to keep up.

The guide informed us that at this pace, we wouldn't make it back to the bus on time, and that beginners should sign up for a private tour. I managed to carry my wife's backpack, and we somehow made it to Jomon Sugi.

Additionally, there were other beginners in the group, and we found ourselves in a situation where we needed to put on crampons due to the snowy conditions. However, the guide only handed out the crampons and did not assist with putting them on.

ガイドからこのペースだと帰りのバスに間にあわない、初心者は個別ツアーに申し込むべきだと告げられました
妻のザックを私が担いであがる事でなんとか縄文杉までは到着しました
また、他にも登山初心者の方が参加されていたの雪道でアイゼンを付けなければならない状態だったのですが、ガイドはアイゼンを渡すだけで付け方を手伝うことはありませんでした
登山アプリでの行動ペースは一般の110〜120%となっており、普段実施されている観光説明を参加者のスキルにあわせて短くし、ゆっくり目に歩いてあげる様な配慮もあってよかったと思います

I was a bit anxious about my footing because of the snow and ice, but the guide took it slow, so even as a first-time climber, I was able to successfully ascend and descend.

There were moments when I felt like giving up, but the snow-covered mountains were incredibly mystical, and I’m glad I took on the challenge! It also gave me a sense of accomplishment that makes me feel like next year will be a good one!

This was my second time in Yakushima, and with a focus on trekking, it was difficult to explore the entire island. The solution to this is the "Yakuzaru-go" island tour, which allows you to experience the beauty of the waterfalls, the Western Forest Road, Nagata Beach, and Yakusugi Land all in a compact way. I was worried about whether we would be able to return without being left behind during the 10-hour round trip trek, but we ended up climbing with a pair of four girls and two others who had similar stamina to ours. There were several breaks along the way, and it turned out to be a fulfilling day where I could enjoy and learn a lot about the history of the cedar trees with my own eyes.

There were several difficult spots, but having many companions to climb with made me feel reassured, and I experienced a great sense of accomplishment. Without the tour, I would have likely gotten tired and given up, and I definitely wouldn't have made it to the destination, so it was a wonderful opportunity. The way back felt like it went by in no time!

往復で10時間のトレッキングということでちゃんと置いてかれずに帰って来れるのか不安でしたが、私たちは女の子4人のペアと私たち2人で体力が同じくらいの方と一緒に登ることになりました。休憩も所々何ヶ所かあり、杉の歴史をたのしく自分の目でみていっぱい知れる充実した1日となりました。
難所は何ヶ所がありましたが、一緒に登る仲間がたくさんいて心強いと感じましたし、達成感がとてもありました。ツアーなしでは疲れて諦めてしまい確実にたどり着くことできなかったため、とてもいい機会でした。帰り道はあっという間でした！

Due to the schedule of my trip, I was looking for a tour in the afternoon, and I was very grateful that they were able to accommodate me with a rental included! The tour guide was very friendly and provided an enjoyable experience. I was able to fully appreciate the nature of Yakushima, and it became a truly wonderful memory to finally see the moss-covered forest that I had longed to visit. On the way back, they also took me to a recommended souvenir shop, which was very helpful!

This time, I had to give up on Taiko Rock, so I would love to go again in spring to see the cherry blossoms, as recommended by the guide! It was a lot of fun, thank you so much!
