I was moved by the numerous divine Yakusugi trees! 数々の神々しい屋久杉に感動！

We participated as a group of six. We left at around 5 AM and returned home after 6 PM, which turned out to be harder than expected, but the sense of accomplishment was immense!
It was a long-distance walk of 22 km, but 80% of it was on a flat cart path, after which we transitioned to a proper mountain climb.
On the day of the tour, due to the influence of a typhoon, we experienced a mix of light rain and heavy downpours, and the temperature dropped. However, I was able to enjoy the walk until the end while keeping pace with the guide and other team members!
Even in the rain, the Jomon Sugi and various other Yakusugi trees looked particularly radiant, and I feel it was a very precious experience!
6人グループでの参加でした。朝5時台に出発し帰宅は18時過ぎと思ったよりハードでしたが、達成感は人一倍でした！
往復22kmの長距離歩行でしたが、8割は平坦なトロッコ道、そこからは本格的な登山に移ります。
当日は台風の影響でしとしと雨とザーザー雨の繰り返しで気温も下がる中でのツアーでしたが、ガイドさん他チームメンバーと歩調を合わせながら最後まで楽しく歩き切ることができました！
雨の中でしたが、一段と縄文杉をはじめ数々の屋久杉の姿は輝いて見え、とても貴重な経験ができたと感じています！
7月、8月でも長袖のウェア必須です。思ったより寒いです。また、水に濡れることは避けられませんが、防水のウェアも必須です。体温を下げないことが事故防止につながります。虫はいないので、虫除けは不要でした。

The day before, I went trekking to Jomon Sugi. The next day, I went to Shiratani Unsuikyo with Mr. Tawaki. I was a bit anxious about participating alone, but he shared many stories about Yakushima, which was very educational. Mr. Tawaki's stamina while talking continuously during the hike was impressive. The lunch was delicious too!
In the afternoon, I tried kayaking for the first time, and I was able to grasp the techniques along the way, which made it really fun. The yomogi mochi and tea we had on the sandy beach were incredibly tasty. I also had the opportunity to try SUP, making it a day filled with satisfaction and excitement. Even though it was pouring rain, the forest felt wonderful. The Shiratani in the rain is the best.
The snack we had while kayaking was "Kakaran Dango," a rich mugwort dumpling. It's a specialty from Kagoshima, but the one from Yakushima has a stronger mugwort flavor!
The location by the river made it even more delicious.
Since you love waterfalls, Salla, let's definitely go on a tour of the stunning waterfalls next time!

Due to the rain the previous day, I wasn't sure how far we could go, but I was glad we were able to see the mossy forest safely. Although it was raining at first, the sun peeked through, and the forest after the rain sparkled and was very beautiful.
Since rain was forecasted again from the afternoon, we walked quickly, but the guide pointed out the small insects, budding plants, and changes in the forest, which was enjoyable. We also encountered a hornet and a pit viper along the way, but the guide responded quickly, which was reassuring.
By the way, the guide had an impressive, almost sage-like way of moving! I'm not used to mountain trails, but the guide taught me where to be careful, so I was able to walk without any problems until the end!
前日の雨でどこまで行けるかわからない状況でしたが、無事苔むす森を見ることができてよかったです。
最初は雨が降っていたものの晴れ間が見えて、雨上がりの森はきらきらしてとてもきれいでした。
お昼からまた雨の予報だったので急ぎ足で歩く中でも、ガイドさんが森の小さな虫や芽吹き、変化に気づいてお話してくださって楽しかったです。
また、途中スズメバチやマムシにも出会ってしまったのですが、ガイドさんがすばやく対応してくださって心強かったです。
余談ですが、ガイドさんは流石の仙人のような足取りですごかったです！
私は山道慣れていないですが、ガイドさんが気をつけるところなど教えてくださったので、問題なく最後まで歩けました！

I was able to focus on trekking with peace of mind since I could leave all the time management to them. Above all, it was great that the guide took photos of us at the best spots, allowing us to create memories smoothly without worrying about where to take pictures. They also prepared miso soup for lunch, which helped alleviate our fatigue. I enjoyed the conversations with the other participants, and I'm glad I joined the tour!

I was quite anxious on my first trip to Yakushima, but thanks to our veteran guide, I was able to enjoy the journey to Jomon Sugi immensely. Thank you for sharing the history and the beauty of Yakushima with humor! I felt reassured as I could rely on the guide for pacing and rest stops. 🥳 I was also grateful that the guide actively took photos for us. I quit my job and came to Yakushima for a two-month vacation. It's been over a decade since my last visit. Last time, I relied on a friend and didn't know much about Yakushima, so this time I did a bit of studying beforehand.
The first thing I can say is that taking a tour to see Jomon Sugi was definitely the right choice. The guide who accompanied us shared so much knowledge about Yakushima, which was very educational. The two women who joined us were also quite fit, so we were able to enjoy the tour without any difficulty while walking!

The guide's time management was excellent! I'm really glad we requested a guide! On June 30th, I participated with three classmates. The rainy season ended early, and it was a day without a drop of rain. As a 60-year-old beginner, I was full of anxiety, but thanks to our handsome guide, Ando, I was able to meet Jomon Sugi and complete the tour safely.
He encouraged us to push through on the way there and made sure to pause at points on the way back to prevent any injuries, reminding us to be careful. His attentive reminders were greatly appreciated in situations where I felt overwhelmed. The miso soup during lunch was comforting and delicious!
He created some extra time on the way back, allowing us to enjoy nature while icing our feet in the river! He even treated us to coffee, which was an incredibly luxurious experience. Thank you so much for that! He took a lot of great photos, and his photography skills were impressive!
When I selfishly pointed out, "There should be a handrail here," he replied, "We're intruding in nature after all," which made me feel a bit embarrassed. Hearing about the times when it didn't rain and the forest suffered made me reflect on how nature is deteriorating. I want to keep in mind that I can do small things to help. The forests of Yakushima have a mysterious power. I feel like I've been purified and have become a slightly better person! After two or three days, I already want to go back again.

ガイドさんをお願いして本当に良かったです！6/30に同級生3人で参加しました。
早めに梅雨が明け、雨が一滴も降らない１日でした。
60歳初心者で不安だらけでしたが、ガイドのイケメン安藤さんのお陰で縄文杉にも会えて無事終了する事が出来ました。
私たちの様子をみて往路を頑張り、復路は怪我がないようポイントでは一度立ち止まり、注意を促して下さいました。
危ないと思っても頭が回らない状況に、細やかな声掛けはありがたかったです。
昼食時のお味噌汁も沁みました！美味しかったです！
復路で余裕を作って下さったので、川に足をつけてアイシングしながら自然を満喫！
その中でコーヒーまでご馳走してくれました。最高に贅沢な時間をありがとうございます^_^
写真もたくさん撮ってくれました。さすがに撮り方も上手くていい写真ばかりでした！
自分本位に「ここに手すりがあるば」と言ったら「あくまで自然の中にお邪魔してますよ」と言われ恥ずかしくなりました。
雨が降らず森が枯渇した事があった話を聞き、自然が壊れてきてる事を改めて考えさせられました。
小さい事でも自分に出来る事を心がけたいと思ってます。
屋久島の森は不思議な力があります。
浄化されて少しいい人間になれた気がします！2、3日経ったらまた行きたくなってます。

The natural trail was closed due to the typhoon, and the detour was tougher than we expected. Our guide was initially concerned because there are often people in their 70s and 80s who retire or get injured along the way. However, as we followed the guide's advice and walked together, they became more at ease with us. Thanks to our experienced guide, we were able to enjoy conversations and successfully complete the trek. We had a wonderful time in the mystical forest.

Thanks to our guide who set the pace, I was able to walk all the way to the end without much fatigue. The weather was favorable, and the scenery of Jomon Sugi, including the Yakusugi along the way, was wonderful. I also had encounters with deer and monkeys.

It was more challenging than I expected, but the weather cleared up halfway through, and it was really nice. When I said my legs were tired, they made time for me to rest by putting my feet in the river. There weren't many breaks, but I was glad we were able to do everything on time!

The experience at Jomon Sugi left a negative impression. The guide seemed experienced, but the treatment felt rather rough. I found it very unpleasant when they mentioned the large group size and the age of some participants. Although they said to go at our own pace, it felt like they were trying to match the speed of the faster individuals on the way back, and it seemed they weren't paying attention to the surroundings. It felt like the goal was just to finish quickly. I wonder why we had to walk so fast when there was time after we arrived for other parties to return. The day I participated was the last day of Golden Week, and surprisingly, I was the only participant! I got to have the guide all to myself. Thanks to that, I was able to hear a lot of stories, and it was very educational. Before turning 64, I decided to take on a challenge. Continuing my morning one-hour brisk walking training, I finally got to meet the Jomon Sugi, and the sense of accomplishment was incredible. I was fortunate to have a great tour guide and wonderful companions, and even as a solo participant, I felt a strong sense of unity. It was tough, but it turned out to be the best experience. The day before, due to heavy rain, the Arakawa Junction to the Arakawa Trailhead was closed, and the planned Jomon Sugi trekking tour was canceled. On the day of the tour, the rain stopped in the early hours, and it cleared up beautifully. The water levels were moderately abundant, allowing us to cross the streams without any issues. A gentle breeze blew through the forest, and sunlight filtered through the trees where water dripped from the moss, allowing us to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery of Shiratani Unsuikyo.
At Taiko Rock, it was also sunny, and we could clearly see Mount Miyanoura, Mount Kurio, and Mount Taichu. Our guide, who was originally from the Kanto region and had moved to Yakushima, humorously explained the differences in the natural environment, flora and fauna, and the lifestyle patterns of people from Kanto and Yakushima. He also discussed Hayao Miyazaki's works in relation to Yakushima's nature and various locations for celebrity music video shoots.
His camera work was skillful, capturing great shots that highlighted the features of each point. 当日は、夜半に雨があがりきれいに晴れたので、水量もほどほどに豊富ながら沢を渡るのに支障もなく、森の中はそよ風が吹き、苔を水が滴るところに木漏れ日が差し、白谷雲水峡の綺麗な景色を満喫させてもらいました。
太鼓岩でも晴れていたので、宮之浦岳、栗生岳や太忠岳もはっきり見えました。

Is this a common occurrence in Yakushima (are the locals used to it)? There was an incident with a flight cancellation (wait, really?!). We changed our plans from arriving the day before and being picked up from the hotel for a morning tour to arriving in Yakushima at 10:55 and then fitting and picking up rental shoes at the airport. We called to change our pickup from the tour company in front of the airport to 11:40 for the afternoon tour (we can go right after we arrive! Surprising). Since the other participants (two groups totaling four people) had no further plans, our guide took the time to show us around for five hours (the afternoon tour might be a better deal). The guide also took about 70 photos for us (amazing!). The Kodama doll was provided by the guide.
屋久島あるあるなのかな（現地の人は慣れっこなのかな）？飛行機が欠航というアクシデント（えっ、まじ！）、前日入島&翌朝ホテルピックアップ（午前ツアー）から変更して、屋久島10:55到着後に空港にてレンタル靴合わせ&受け取り、空港前のツアー屋さん11:40ピックアップ（午後ツアー）に電話相談で変更（到着すぐに行けるんや！びっくり）。参加者の皆さん（2組計4名）に次の予定がないことからガイドさんが5時間かけてゆっくり案内してくれました（午後ツアーの方がお得かも）。写真もガイドさんが合計約70枚も撮ってくれました（すご！）。こだま人形はガイドさんが用意してくれたものです。
