I wanted to see Jomon Sugi at least once in my life, so I decided to join the tour alone. I hadn't done much hiking since elementary school, and I usually only walk about 4,000 to 5,000 steps a day, so I was very anxious.

About 60 to 70% of the trail was paved with wooden boards, but since it was March, it was quite slippery as we approached the summit, and some people fell.

It was a long journey, but encouraging each other with the group and walking in the magnificent nature of Yakushima to see the majestic Jomon Sugi was an incredible feeling of accomplishment! The guide welcomed us warmly from the moment we met and took many photos for us. Only three family members participated on New Year's Day. Many people, like myself, who visit Jomon Sugi the day before tend to opt for the half-day course to the mossy forest due to fatigue, but it's only an additional 40 minutes to reach Taiko Rock, so I highly recommend going. The muscle pain and fatigue aren't bothersome while climbing, and adding 40 minutes doesn't make much of a difference. Plus, you get to enjoy a stunning view and have a leisurely lunch, making it quite worthwhile.

As expected from a gorge, there is plenty of water and moss, creating a very mystical and refreshing atmosphere. It feels so surreal that you can't help but wonder when the Kodama or mountain deities might appear.

水峡なだけに水や苔が多く、とても幻想的でリフレッシュできます。いつこだまや山神様が出てくるのだろう…と思ってしまうほど、非現実的な空間を楽しめます。
