On the day of the hike, Yakushima had unusually nice weather despite the rain. Seven years ago, my visit to Yakushima was canceled due to bad weather from a typhoon, so this was my chance for revenge. The 4:00 AM pickup was a bit tough, but we encouraged each other among the participants, and thanks to our guide's appropriate pacing, we successfully reached the summit. The sense of achievement was incredible. I would love to challenge myself again if I have the opportunity.

7年前に屋久島訪問の時には台風による悪天候で催行中止、今回はそのリベンジでした。4:00のピックアップは少しつらかったですが、他参加者とも励ましあいながら、ガイドさんの適切なペース配分により無事に登頂できました。達成感最高

This was my second visit to Shiratani Unsuikyo. Due to the impact of last year's typhoon, the course was a bit tougher than before, but I managed to reach the mossy forest while encouraging each other with the other participants. I wish I had pushed myself a little more and signed up for the course to Taiko Rock. The guide's conversations and explanations were also very enjoyable. Thank you!

The guide assessed each participant's physical ability and skill level, leading us throughout the journey. Although the course wasn't one that could easily lead to getting lost, it involved a long distance and duration, so the guide was extremely reliable in terms of pacing for breaks and safety management.
We were blessed with clear weather, and the experience of encountering the ancient cedar trees, especially Jomon Sugi, was truly moving and unforgettable.

After the typhoon passed, we were able to go trekking in the clear weather, and the sunlight filtering through the trees created a beautiful contrast. Additionally, our guide provided detailed explanations of the plants and animals we encountered along the way, which changed our perspective and made the experience even better. There were many things I would have missed if I had been walking alone. By the time we descended to the parking lot, the temperature had risen, but most of the trail was shaded, and a cool breeze was blowing, making for a comfortable trekking experience.

A typhoon was approaching, but I was able to go trekking in light rain and a gentle breeze. It was a magical world of moss, just as I had seen in photos. I was thrilled to breathe in the forest air and see it in person. The guide explained the formation of Yakushima, its nature, and the Yakusugi trees, which helped me understand the differences very well. It started to rain partway through, but I heard this is part of Yakushima's baptism, so I was able to walk with a joyful feeling. My legs were tired on the way down, but I felt a sense of accomplishment in my own way. I believe this will be a lifelong memory.

Trekking to Jomon Sugi was quite challenging, especially since it was almost my first time climbing. I truly believe I wouldn't have been able to achieve it at my own pace or with just a tourist mindset, but thanks to the guide, I was able to reach the destination safely, and I am very grateful for that.
The way there felt like a strict boot camp with all the walking (laughs), but on the way back, we took it a bit slower and even stopped by a river, which allowed us to really enjoy nature.

The unique climate of low temperature and high humidity brought beautiful vegetation. The sight of the moss was a landscape unlike any other. It was quite a walk to Jomon Sugi, which was tough, but it was worth it. I felt a mystical aura of nature, and it seemed like my luck improved (laughs).
You walk for a long time on a difficult mountain trail, but the difficulty and the fatigue and muscle pain afterward are at a level tougher than a full marathon. It's not suitable for families with small children.
I'm glad I opted for a guided tour. The advice on how to walk, spots to see, little tips, rest points, and remaining distance and time were all things I wouldn't have known on my own.

長時間足元の悪い登山道を歩きますが、難易度と後の疲労・筋肉痛はフルマラソンの方が、きついレベルです。小さな子供連れは無理です。
ガイド付きにしてよかったです。歩き方、スポット、小ネタ、休憩ポイント、残り距離・時間等のアドバイスは、単独では分からないことだらけでした。

I usually don't exercise, so I was worried about whether I could finish the hike, but thanks to the guidance on pacing, I was able to see Jomon Sugi safely. I was also happy that they took photos for us, and it was definitely a point that made me feel it was worth hiring a guide to learn about shortcuts that we would never have figured out on our own.
普段運動をしないので、体力完走出来るか不安だったのですが、ペース配分を考えながら案内して頂けたので、無事に縄文杉を見ることが出来ました。

I had always wanted to visit Yakushima. The guide provided various explanations, which helped me understand the preciousness of the Yakusugi trees even more. I was able to fully enjoy the untouched nature, and I took photos at the photo spots, creating lasting memories.
I rated it three stars because the guide's voice was quiet, and when walking in a line, I could only hear him up to about the second person. I also felt that the pace of the breaks was somewhat guided by him. However, I believe I was able to complete the round trip of 22 km without anxiety thanks to the guide, so overall, I am satisfied!

I was a beginner at mountain climbing, but somehow I was able to return safely. When I finally reached Jomon Sugi and the moment I descended, I was filled with a sense of accomplishment. I truly felt that climbing and descending on my own feet is what mountain climbing is all about.
Although it wasn't listed among my gear, I think trekking poles are necessary. The descent was quite tough without them.

While there are explanations at various points listed in the guidebook, basically, we walk in silence. When fatigue peaks, it becomes mentally tough, and while walking, I start to ponder about life, making it truly a training experience. However, being able to see the Jomon Sugi, which I have always longed to see, brings an incredible sense of accomplishment. It feels like it will become a lifelong memory.
- The tour company contacts you in advance regarding rental items and what to bring. I think it would be easier for the company to handle it via email, but I was surprised by their very polite response.
- The satisfaction on the day depends on the guide. The guide assigned to us was friendly.

I'm glad I had the guide to show me around. I couldn't have climbed it alone. I was fortunate to be with the others who climbed together and the guide. We participated as a couple in our forties with our daughters, who are in sixth and second grade. By chance, we were the only participants, so it turned into a private tour.
Due to last year's typhoon, we had to take a detour route, which included quite a steep ascent. Although it's labeled as an easy course, it can be quite challenging for beginners.
The guide adjusted the pace while keeping an eye on the children, and we were able to complete the round trip in four hours with regular breaks.
The deep greens, the way the light fell, the size of the trees, new life, the coldness of the stream water, and the sounds of the birds were all beyond what could be captured in photos.

The trekking to Jomon Sugi and the round trip around Yakushima by rental car were both great experiences, but the view from Taiko Rock is something you can only see by going there, so I highly recommend it. I was really looking forward to the moss in Shiratani Unsuikyo, and last year I was moved by my visit to Oirase Gorge, but Shiratani Unsuikyo had impressive large rocks and trees.
The weather was nice, and it seemed that the summit of Mount Miyanoura was hidden by clouds, so I think the view from Taiko Rock was better that day. The final climb was a bit tough on my sore muscles after two days of hiking, but it’s worth pushing yourself a little to go. The bleached Jomon Sugi, the mountains around the river, the lush greenery, and the flowing clouds were all breathtaking. It felt a bit dangerous as if I might fall, but I thought it would be amazing if I could safely take a nap there.

It was my first time climbing the mountain with a guide, and I was impressed by their wealth of knowledge and ability to manage the pace. The deep breathing time after getting out of breath was much appreciated. One person in our group had their shoe sole come off, but the guide handled it calmly, and everyone was able to descend safely.
Meeting the Jomon Sugi was, of course, moving, but the weather was also great, and even though it was an emergency, I was fortunate to see the trolley running. I think it was a blessed climbing experience.

I had no experience in mountain climbing and I usually don't exercise, so I was very anxious, but I was able to enjoy the climb. It was cool, and there were places to refill water, so bringing just one bottle was more than enough.

First of all, I'm glad I rented. Trekking shoes are a must. Since it was rainy, I was really happy to have borrowed everything.
There were many detours, so having a guide was reassuring. They guided us with detailed and rich knowledge about the plants and Yakushima, making it a very meaningful time.
