So glad we did this

Reviewed by: Stewart, 2019/06/14

We were picked up from our hotel at the precise time given. The coach was comfortable and our guide, Oum, great! She had a lovely sense of humour, knew her subject matter and was very helpful throughout the day. The included lunch was also really good. Yes, it's a longish day due to the distance (we travelled on a Saturday, which helped with the traffic and returned ahead of schedule) but a very worthwhile one.

  • The bridge on the River Kwai

  • A display at the excellent Death Railway Museum

  • The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery

Dear Stewart, Thank you very much for your feedback. It is indeed a long day but definitely worth it. We are glad the day went as planned and we will share your satisfaction with our guide Oum as well. Looking forward to have you with us on your next visit to Thailand. Regards, Pascal.

Very informative and impressive tour!

Reviewed by: Kenny, 2018/12/17

This tour was very memorable and educational, because I have worked on war reparations and all the sites we visited are related to the Japanese past injustice. I was surprised to realize that there were so many Westerners who were still interested in this historical tragedy, quite contrary to the situation in Japan. I think I was lucky to join this tour group.

In addititon, the tour guide, Sunee's explanation was informative and the tour was very organized and I very much appreciate it.

*Since there were many participants in this tour group the other day, I hope a half the money I paid will be returned shortly, as is advertised.

  • very friendly and kind Sunee(Susie)

Quite a long trip but ride is comfy and experience worth it. Restroom stop each way. Lunch average but adequate. Tour guide Oum very helpful. Museum exposition very emotional. Would recommend this trip. Positive experience with Veltra tours so far.

Excellent full day tour. A long day but sufficient time to visit/experience all parts of the tour. (A dedicated history buff would probably want longer at various parts, particularly the museum).

Local train ride was awesome

Located in Kanchanaburi, over 120km West of Bangkok, close to the Myanmar border - the Death Railway, or Burma-Siam Railway serves as a reminder of the history and cost of World War II. Over 90,000 locals and 12,000 war prisoners lost their lives building the railway. The tour involves all transfers, a visit to the well documented memorial museum and cemetery, a boat ride and local train journey between Tha Kilen and Nam Tok. A good day trip, a much better choice than the Floating Markets if you are deciding between the two.

Very well organised - especially with all the different modes of transport you go on! Travelling along the old wooden bridge with the amazing scenery was a standout moment from the tour... not to be missed!

Beautiful scenery and an interesting day. It was a long day but we enjoyed it and there were many highlights - the train ride, the lovely food, the speed boat ride. The history of the railway is sobering of course but the tour in general was really good.

Great value for money, Sam the tour guide was very knowledgable and a good addition to make the day informative and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour. Only downer is the traffic in Bangkok when being dropped off, nothing anyone can do about this of course, just be aware. It may be worth getting off the mini bus and using the sky train, which is what I did.

The tour itself was diverse with the long drive to the interesting sites, speedboat trip up the Maklong river and bridge itself and finally the train ride on the death railway. Highlight for me was the stop at the excellent Kanchanaburi museum and war cemetery. We were fortunate to have an informative and caring guide Anand also to ensure all went well especially after the tour coach broke down sppn on the way back and he made sure that I got back safely to Bangkok and arranged for my BTS journey to my hotel. Many thanks a lot again, Anand.

The day was good and well organised. The hotel pick up was efficient. The guide was very pleasant and informative. The driver was good. The coach clean and comfortable. The itinerary was good, though would have appreciated more time in the memorial gardens. The museum was good and informative. The train journey was good, though we were not keen on the refreshments which we considered not ideal for tourists. As regards the buffet that too wasn't worth risking. There were lots of comfort breaks and opportunities for purchasi additional drinks. The day was really good and much appreciated.

A very special trip - very poignant at times but beautifully organised with a rail trip at the end to die for. The only problem and its a logistical one is the long long journey back.
