Good, to a degree.

I enjoyed the guide’s knowledge and humour. Rothenburg is, of course, very interesting. I would have liked a bit more time to end with a relaxing drink. However, there were three other members of the tour were on the bus who had booked to go to Heidelberg. This meant a further 2 and 1/2 hour drive there, a brief walk around the castle and then the trip back. As I had already booked to go to Heidelberg the next day, I was not happy with this. But these poor people had paid for the trip and I felt that it was the company’s mistake. Otherwise, I certainly recommend the Rothenburg trip. Please avoid doing this in the future.

Great Small Group Day Trip

Reviewed by: Carrie, 2015/05/14

Although I had signed up for the full day tour of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, I was pleasantly surprised to get a stop over in Heidelberg on the way back to Frankfurt (this was listed as a separate 2-city tour on the website). There were only 2 other couples and myself, along with the driver/guide in a small van. The guide was friendly, knowledgable and a safe driver. He rambled off facts, figures and jokes about everything we saw with ease. We walked along the city wall and toured a church and shopped in a huge Christmas store in Rothenburg. Our stop in Heidelberg included a tour of the castle exterior and interiors with the world's largest wine barrel and lucky fox tail for young maidens who wish to marry followed by a tram ride down the mountain into town. We did a quick stroll through town to the bridge where we found another way to get married soon involving mice and a baboon. The only thing that would have made this tour better is if there was more time to look around each city on your own. In Rothenburg we had almost 30 minutes and in Heidelberg there was only 15 minutes left to walk around, take more pictures and shop. I know the day is never long enough to see and do everything but I would have been happy to return home a little later if we were given more time to explore on our own...and time for dinner in a local restaurant, perhaps. Overall, I was very happy to have found this company and very much enjoyed my day spent with new friends in beautiful surroundings.

Lovely town

I wanted to take the tour that includes Neuschwanstein Castle as well, but there was not enough participants on that day, so I joined Rothenburg only tour.
There was enough time to walk around the town and I enjoyed it a lot!
There were only 4 people on the tour, so the atmosphere was very cosy and friendly.
Autobahn is very fast, but our driver-guide was a true gentleman, his driving was very safe and I even managed to feel asleep in the car.

I liked the small-group tour and felt that this was a great, easy way to learn the most about the town, rather than try to visit on my own. The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. There was a little bit of a delay in receiving my tour confirmation due to the fact that the minimum attendance hadn't been met right away, but the City Discovery people were very prompt in responding to my questions and letting me know what the situation was. Overall, very pleased.
