Great day trip to see Neuschwanstein and Linderhof

Not only was the tour punctual, we actually left ahead of schedule! The tour was fantastic, Linderhof was a great surprise - most "train" tours do not go here but Grayline bus tours do. We also stopped in the middle in a nice town called Oberammergau, before heading to the highlight - Neuschwanstein castle! Our guide Mieke and driver Stefan were both great :)

Bavaria excursion

The tour of the castle is a bit disappointing as it (and the palace) are only about 30 minutes long and you can’t take any pictures. They are beautiful though and it is nice to have some background of the country, area, king, and time period. Our tour guide and bus driver were amazing and we had a great time! WiFi on the bus doesn’t actually work, but it was a comfortable ride and snacks and drinks were provided - included some local beer! The walk up to the castle is a bit long/ up hill but it’s all paved and not difficult, I’m just out of shape.

  • Before hiking up to Neuschwenstein

  • At the bottom of the Neuschwenstein castle’s hill

  • Local beer from munich

  • View of the yellow castle from the point on the way to Mary’s bridge

  • The yellow castle

  • Acrylic paintings in the small village

  • Baroque church in the small village

  • Neuschwenstein castle from the bottom of the hill

  • Linderhof Palace (the fountain shoots up on the hour for 2 minutes)

Fantastic experience on a more luxurious coach with single armchair-like seats. Although at the beginning I was ushered onto one of the other coaches with normal seating but luckily I was insistent that I’d paid for the premier coach. Soon all was fine, had an excellent tour guide called Ursula who was so enthusiastic and informative at all times. Although the sightseeing seemed rushed I can quite understand that everything is to a strict schedule. Also the driver who I think was called Vlad was very friendly and courteous. Visited Marienbrücke first with our tour guide and we decided to pay the couple of euros on the shuttle bus to take us up, we then visited Neuschwannstein castle on our timed ticket, next was a 40min stop in Oberammergau, as we all got back onto the bus Vlad kindly kept us going with plenty of offers of snacks + drinks. Last stop was Linderhof Palace which had impressive rooms. The bus got back to the Hauptbahnhof approximately 7pm and we certainly had a wonderful day and didn’t have to worry about buying tickets or queues as Ursula did all this for us...although not a cheap tour I would definitely recommend it...a big thank you to Ursula and Vlad!!

Well, this day trip is perhaps the most budget fridendly and convenient way to visit Neuschwanstein castle from Munich! You can also enjoy two additional attractions: the Linderhof palace (a small one ;( ) and the small village with ice creams of a wide variety and cheap price (€1.1 per scoop :))
U got plenty of time to enjoy your visits, no rush at all. Comfy bus with excellent guide (Clara from Brazil :))
Highly recommend it!

The tour guide is fantastic and very efficiently. During the trip is is able to guide the entire history of Munich and the background of the Castle. And when we reach the castle, she was able to secure the tickets in matter of minutes.
The hop on hop off bus which was added as complimentary is another added bonus tour which brings you around much more within Munich city.
Definitely recommended package.

The tour was ok

Reviewed by: CrisP, 2017/12/11

The bus was ok and the castles were amazing. The recording guide, in the bus, gave us very few information. I would like to know more. The time was a little tight and there weren’t any time to do much or ask the guides, specially in Linderhof. Beside that everything was ok. The only negative point is that the guide, at the end, ask us for tip. For me, you earn your tips, and if your clients wants to give you tip, they give it to you. You as a guide, shouldn’t tell in a open mic to give you tips, that was a very bad taste gesture.

Best experience

Reviewed by: Rebekah till, 2017/12/04

The tour to Linderhof and Neuschwanstein Castle was fantastic! Our guide was so educational, Im so pleased with the tour! I’ve noticed people moaning on here about the castle entry fees after paying for this trip but when you buy this tour, you are paying for the coach driver to drive you around from 8 in the morning until 6 at night and also hearing about the history of Munich/the castles. The castle entry fee is a separate fee of €24 per person which is completely reasonable! The deeper into the alps we drove the snow got deeper, it was so perfect! The walk up to neuschwanstein wasn’t bad at all! If you are a quick walker you can easily make it up in 30 minutes, it’s a slog to walk up but not too difficult. However if you have issues walking, I wouldn’t recommend going up in the winter time. The bus doesn’t run in the winter and the horse and carriage only takes you 2 3rds of the way up so at some point you will still end up walking up a rather steep hill. Overall I’m so very pleased with this trip and would recommend it to anyone! The views you see along the way are just so breathtaking and stunning. Couldn’t be a more perfect day out!

Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles Day Tour

Reviewed by: Dusty, 2017/10/13

We went on this tour and thought it was a lovely experience. The castles were incredible and very grand, well worth the visit. The coach out to the castles was comfortable, and the tour guide was informative, she gave us a lot of facts about Germany, Berlin and the history of the castles etc throughout the journey.

The only downside to the tour was the amount of people on the bus and the amount of people attending each castle, so getting on one of the three coaches took quite some time, and then having to stick to a very strict timeline the tour guide put us on due to the large groups. We wish we could have spent more time at the castles and at the village.

Overall it was a good experience and well worth the day trip. It is a long day so be sure to pack some food and water to eat during the bus ride.

Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles Day Tour

Reviewed by: etay.2005@gmail.com, 2017/10/09

This is our first trip to Munich and both my husband and myself did this tour on a weekday. It was one of the most popular tours from Munich as there were a few full loaded buses departing on the same day for same tour. We arrived at 8.15am sharp and departed soon after for Linderhof castle which will be the first stop. The guide had collect additional EUR24 per pax on bus for the 2 castles entrance fees which are not included. We had managed to catch the "fountain" in front of Linderhof castle at 10am before going for the guided tour which lasted about 20 min. Both interior and surrounds of the Linderhof castle were awesome. But unfortunately, we were not given much time (which is only a mere 20 min) to explore the garden and photos taking considering we still need 5-7 mins to walk out from the castle area to the bus parking area. After departing Linderhof, we were brought to a nearby small town (Oberammergau) for souvenirs shopping/ toilet break for 50 min before the bus depart for Hahenschwangau/Neuschwanstein. I think it will be more appreciative if more time is allocated to Linderhof instead. After arriving at Hahenschwangau town, we were given a few options to travel up to Neuschwanstein castle. We took the shuttle bus (about 15 min) up to the castle. There was at least 2 hours for exploring the surrounds of castle before our 3pm castle guided tour. We had enjoyed the breathtaking scenery from the bridge which you will have the far view of the castle. The guided tour was great and lasted about 35 min. But unfortunately, everyone had to get downhill quite immediately otherwise you will miss the tour bus back to Munich. Overall it was a good tour with beautiful scenery. The castles are worth to visit!

Absolutely breathtaking

Reviewed by: Mysticstaff, 2017/09/16

It was pretty gloomy the day that we had the tour, but that didn't really spoil the trip. Despite the grey skies, I could say that Neuschwanstein castle was definitely one of the most beautiful sights I've ever been to. It's a pity that the stops at Linderhof and Oberammergau were a bit too short, but at least that gave us more time to enjoy the the Schwangau area. We even had spare time in the afternoon to walk around the nearby Hohenschwangau castle and lakes. The trip itself was organized well. The tour guide Ursula shared interesting stories during the long bus rides, while we looked on the lush Bavarian countryside. Definitely worth it!

  • Linderhof castle

  • Relaxing views of the Bavarian landscape

  • A bit gloomy, but still a beauty

Great Tour Guide!

Reviewed by: Steven, 2015/05/18

Informative, funny, and helpful would be the words to describe our tour led by the guide Ursula. At the tour date, there was some confusion about which bus to ride, since the buses are separated by guide language spoken and it was unclear which bus was for English-speaking guide. But once we found the right bus, we've found the bus clean and comfortable. We were lucky to sit on the second row from the front upper deck, which gave us a great view of the front and around.

Soon our guide Ursula came on board and gave us an overview of München and landmarks. The bus was selling drinks, and we naturally assumed it would be overpriced, but we were pleasantly surprised at the decent price. Ursula gave us plenty of alerts for photo-ops for mountains, buildings, and other beautiful scenaris as well as cultural and historical back grounds. There was no pushy souvenir sales or herding people into a shop, but only informing of shopping opportunities and restaurant options.

Ursula was firm, clear, yet cool about reminding us of our time. We went through the tour of Linderhof, the town with Passion Play, and finally Neuschwanstein. Unfortunately, we were delayed before the castle (there is always this tourist with disregards for the time!), we were left with shorter than expected time at the castle. We opted to wait for horse carriage and it was my undoing; there was a HUGE group of elderly tourists waiting for the carriage, and we ended up missing our ticket entry time.

Fortunately we were able to change our entry time but had to rush the tour of the castle. We were running very close to the departure time and afraid we would end up being "that" tourist that delays the tour bus. Fortunately, running downhill was much faster and we made it on time. We wish we had extra 10-15 min to fully appreciate the castle but we still enjoyed the beautiful exterior & interior of the castle. All in all, we would highly recommend the tour, especially with Veltra discounts!

  • Courtyard for Linderhof

  • Schloss Neuschwanstein in a distance.. Waiting for that horse carriage!!!

it's nice!! (but how come japanese site doesn't have a review discount???)
now it's winter...we worried about weather, but we were really lucky!!
it's such a beautiful day.there were blue sky and white snow.we were happy with that.
we joined the tour on weekdays, not so crowded.
it made us more happy.
our guide was nice. we are quite international group, she organized well.
we needed to wake up early, but it brought a beautiful day.
after we enjoyed the royal castles Neuschwanstein,we could be back to München hbf around 6pm.
it's good.
if we could have more time to stay at Oberammergau,it's going to be much
better.
at first we thought we go and visit that area by ourself, but it's good to join this tour.
thank you! we had a good day and got great memory in Germany.

Very nice tour

It was a sunny Sunday. We were able to visit two castles with wonderful views.
Linderhof castle had very nice interior. the local guide explained everything very slowly and comprehensibly. Also, the tour bus guide's explanation was very easy to understand. Japanese audio guide was also very useful. At Neuschwanstein castle, the tour guide told us that we should go to Marien bridge first to take pictures before the tour inside of the castle, and informed us very well about the departure time etc.

The inside of the bus was also extremely comfortable.

I have always wanted to visit Germany's Castle's and I was very excited that I was finally able to go.
It was winter, so I was worried about the weather, as it started snowing the night before, but before arriving at Linderhof Palace the weather improved. It was a beautiful palace, and the view was just a gorgeous winter scene. The town we stopped at during the tour was also pretty. The main attraction, Neuschwanstein Castle, was beyond my expectations. The guide spoke English, but he was fun and nice, so I don't think there is anything to worry about.
If you are going to Germany I believe this is a must-do tour.
