Japan
It was a a long but awesome activity! We really enjoyed the sights in Mt Fuji! Great experience!
Thank you so much for leaving the review.
It was a good experience and awesome time talking various subjects with Jojo.
I am very excited with what we have been discussing and we will be able to start new things. Please also recommend the tour to your friends if they plan to came to Japan.
I planned to walk 22 km in 10 hours, but it ended up taking me 11 hours. However, I was able to achieve my goal. The organizers adjusted to the pace of the participants and made sure we had time to take photos, which allowed us to enjoy the experience. I was relieved to make it in time for the last bus.
The pickup was on time, and I was able to enjoy the explanations about Yakushima. I also received a lecture on how to walk, and I finished the walk without any injuries.
Guide was extremely friendly and knowledgable. We found anew friend in Japan!
I was worried about the weather and my physical condition, but I managed to do a proper warm-up and took on the challenge. While I was able to maintain my stamina, I did twist my ankle a bit, possibly due to my usual lack of exercise.
There were seven participants this time. One person injured their foot and had to wait at a rest point (they missed seeing Jomon Sugi, but they were able to visit Shiratani Unsuikyo), and another person participated until the end despite being in pain. Despite these challenges, we adhered to the final deadline and completed the course in about 12 hours and 30 minutes (which was an hour later than usual). This course is known to be hard, to the point that some guides refuse to take it, and one guide reportedly suffered a stress fracture due to doing this route repeatedly.
However, despite the busy schedule, the satisfaction of being able to see the highlights of Yakushima's trekking in one day was immense.
This time, there were discrepancies between the tourists and the guides regarding preparations, which caused some confusion about what to bring. We prioritized decisions based on the situation on-site, which turned out well (though there were some gaps in explanations). There were similar issues with other items needed (it seems that what's necessary can vary by season), and I felt a strong desire for more standardized guidelines.
This is a challenging course that is originally meant to be completed over two days, but we did it in one. It requires not only physical strength but also the mental fortitude to not give up. There were times when I felt like I might break. However, the sense of accomplishment and emotion was multiplied many times over. Thanks to the guide's consideration and pacing, I also have fond memories of being unable to move for two days due to muscle soreness and fatigue.
Taiji was our tour guide on this trip just this March 2017. He brought us to a temple, the lake with Mt. Fuji view and Gotemba shopping area. All with considerations on our end. He was very friendly and accommodating, answered questions about the trip.
We had lunch with him and he shared stories with us. He also asked questions about us and he also took our pictures.
He even offered to wait for our shopping time and when we're about to get off, he asked if we have plans for the next day because he's willing to give a city tour. However we do have planned itinerary already so we just thanked him.
He also helped me find my purse which I lost on that day. Sadly, we weren't able to retrieve it.
I recommend him as a very friendlya nd helpful tour guide. He speaks english well and can converse naturally.
Thank you Nyssa for you comment. I hope your final went OK and you are spending a good time.
I just looked at the picture, our tour was on March 19th.
I myself had fun with your group because I don't often have young people on my tour. I hope to see you aging.
It's worth to spend the money because you get to visit more places and be able to stay longer an the area that you like.
I wasn't very confident in my physical strength, so I chose the course to Taiko Rock, but it wasn't too tough, and the guide's explanations and stories were interesting, making for a wonderful day. The guide's love for moss was amazing! I think they provided explanations that made the course even more enjoyable, including stories from "Princess Mononoke." This time the weather was perfect, but I would like to see the lush forest as well, so I want to go again. Thank you very much!
It was my first time tracking, but I was able to climb without any issues.
The breathtaking view at the top...!!!!
I was truly moved.
I highly recommend the set to Taiko Rock.
I had a great time! I visited the beautiful Shiratani Unsuikyo, the mossy forest, and Taiko Rock. The tour has a wonderful guide. I highly recommend it! (。Ő▽Ő。)
I thought the Jomon Sugi would be too physically demanding, so I chose this course. The guide was a cheerful middle-aged veteran man. He was knowledgeable about plants and took photos for us at various spots, which was enjoyable. We were also able to take great photos with the camera we brought!
On the morning of our tour, our guide, Taiji was waiting when we exited our hotel lobby. After introductions, Taiji familiarized himself with folding my wife’s wheelchair. Once we were in our seats, we explained that we would prefer not to participate in the hot springs bathing. Taiji accepted this and said we should still see the lakes and towns along the way to Mount Fuji as they are quite remarkable.
Taiji took us to the World Heritage Site Visitor Center where we watched an informative video about Mount Fuji. It was there that my wife noticed photography by Rocky Tanaka. We later learned Taiji and he are friends. At the end of our tour Taiji arranged for us to meet with Mr. Tanaka so we could view his gallery and purchase a piece of his art.
From the Visitor Center, we traveled on to see lakes and ponds which have formed by snow melt from Mount Fuji. Some of the villages along the way also exist only because Mount Fuji is towering in the distance. Mount Fuji is a Religious symbol to the Japanese.
We saw and ate white strawberries for the first time. We saw a traditional Japanese home with a thatch roof that will last for 100+ years. We saw bonsai trees and gardens and shops and fish ponds with giant fish and markets. We ate a traditional Japanese meal in an authentic Japanese restaurant where no one spoke English except for us. The food was DELICIOUS and the portions were HUGE! Then we continued on to the Fifth Station.
Taiji is an exceptional tour guide: He was a very safe and capable driver. Even in the high traffic areas of Tokyo’s interstate, we felt we were in safe hands. His English is impeccable and he is extremely articulate. His manners are first rate and he was professional, observant and intuitive. He has a seemingly unending knowledge of Japanese history and culture.
Thank you so much for giving me such an impressive comment.
You posted actually few days after my birthday and I felt like a gift for having the best comment I've ever had.
I felt like you found me at the right moment and we've had a wonderful day and you finally found your favorite picture of Mount Fuji at the end of the day. It was beautiful one and I'm also telling Mr. Tanaka that I will one day get one of his picture and bring it to my place.
I also learned from you about the shift of power in US from an objective angle and could have a fair understanding witch keeps on helping me every time I'm asked what I think of your new president from US guests.
Everything that took part of the service I did it because I don't think as a part of the job, but I myself enjoy or even love to do it and I appreciate so much that you could keep such good memory of the day.
I really hope that your wife is getting better and we will have the chance to meet again.
I am a 30-year-old woman with no regular exercise habits, and I climb low mountains about once every three months.
This was a two-night, three-day whirlwind tour, and I signed up for this tour because I thought, "Since we're here, we want to see both Yakushima and Shiratani Unsuikyo!" On the day of the tour, it rained on and off all day... so rain gear is essential. I thought having a raincoat and a folding umbrella would be very convenient. On the other hand, the vibrant green of the moss was incredibly beautiful.
Since we were visiting two places in one day, the first half (from Shiratani Unsuikyo to Taiko Rock) felt particularly fast-paced.
I had heard that if you are just going to see Jomon Sugi, you don't need a guide, but I was able to enjoy Yakushima even more by listening to the guide's explanations about each tree and the island's formation!
In areas around Taiko Rock and Jomon Sugi where the paths become steep, it's much easier to climb with light gear, leaving everything except valuables behind. For those who are hesitant to leave their bags, I think it would be good to bring a large backpack for your belongings and a waist pouch for your valuables.
I was very satisfied with the wonderful scenery and the knowledgeable guide. This tour is recommended for those who are confident in their physical fitness, as you will be walking from morning until evening.
A great day spent with our guide. He was very well informed and friendly. We saw so much in our short time from shrines, temples, the Palace and we were even lucky enough to see part of an traditional wedding. Lunch was something we'd not experienced before but was very delicious. Looking forward to coming back and spending more time next time.
Dear Marie
Thank you for having choosing my service. I had a very good time and we were very lucky that we could see the traditional wedding but also able to see one of the biggest festival in Meiji Shrine.
Sukiyaki lunch was awesome, IMAHAN is actually in one of the well reputed sukiyaki restaurant in Tokyo.
We've definitely had a good day with sunny sky.
Shoji was a super host and guide. Made our day trip through Kyoto most enjoyable. His time management was effective and led us through with enough time to make trip back to Tokyo. Lexus car was very clean and comfortable for 3 people
Dear Gonca-us-san
Thank you so much for taking Yasaka limousine service. We appreciate your wonderful comments and taking time to share your great experience with us.
We are looking forward to seeing you again in Kyoto.
Best wishes
I was planning my schedule for the weekend, Friday to Sunday, while participating from Fukuoka. I really wanted to visit these two places, so I found a tour that goes to Jomon Sugi on Saturday and Shiratani on half of Sunday. However, since my flight back to Fukuoka is at 11:00, I thought it would be impossible to do a tour on the third day, and I was considering returning via Kagoshima. While searching, I found this site. I actually visited both places and was able to enjoy satisfying trekking.
The departure was from Shiratani Hiroba. The path was muddy due to the rain, but the moss in the mossy forest was beautifully fresh. When I reached the trolley road, the rain had stopped, and the route was smooth and not crowded, allowing us to reach Jomon Sugi. The guide explained that if we started from the Arakawa trailhead, we would have to march while stepping on the railway ties, which would be crowded, so we climbed from here instead. However, I regret that after parting ways with the guide and descending to Arakawa, there was a discrepancy in the schedule and bus times, causing us to return to the hotel late.
Next, I would like to aim for a day trip to Mount Kuju.
I was guided by Natsuko, who can provide tours in English, along with my German friend to places like Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji, and Arashiyama. Her thoughtfulness, language skills, and knowledge of history were all wonderful, and my friend from overseas was very pleased. Her explanations at each temple and shrine were profound, and I believe she has studied very well. I would definitely like to explore Kyoto again with Natsuko as my guide. Thank you very much!
Thank you for using our service. I have already reported this to the crew. They were also concerned about the weather and were glad to hear that you enjoyed your experience. Please do let us know when you visit Kyoto again.
It was rainy and cold all day, but the guide really lifted the atmosphere, so I was able to walk without getting too tired. I was unsure about visiting two places at the same time, but for those short on time, I recommend this course.
A nice overview of Tokyo with a chance to see major attractions in One day.
Our Tour Guide Taiji Endo was professional, friendly and informative. He gave us a lot of background and history of the sites we visited.
Highly recommend this tour.
Thank you Sylva again for choosing me out of many and for your kind comment. It is such an nice idea to travel with relatives especially when you are not so close to each other.
I hope you enjoyed the lunch as it still is a memorable dish for me, definitely one of the best place that I've tried so far, and I really enjoyed men's talk with your husband.
I had a guide from Yakushima who shared many stories about the unique plants and nature of Yakushima while we took lots of photos. It was an experience that you definitely can't have in the city. Although the course was quite challenging, the magnificent views afterward made me forget everything else. I would love to request this guide again when I visit Yakushima next time. Thank you very much.
It was cloudy, but it didn't rain, and the forest was incredibly beautiful. The timing was great, and I was able to trek comfortably. The pace was just right, and the guide taught us various things, which was interesting. As a Studio Ghibli fan, there were many exciting points, and it was the best experience. I'm really glad I went to see the unique forest scenery. I definitely want to go again.
We just arrived from a fun filled experience tour in Tokyo. Our pickup transfer driver/guide arrived on time but unfortunately we got lost in locating the exact meeting area because of the wrong map that was given by the agency. Through the help of a Filipina working at Narita airport we were able to contact our guide. Inspite of the rain, our guide Taji still managed to bring us to Meguro River with full bloom cherry blossom trees and to the (secret) as described by our guide long stretch of cherry blossom trèes not popular to tourists. He also recommended an authentic and tasty ramen for our group to try. Thank you Taji for the wonderful experience!
The weather was bad, and my husband's foot condition worsened, so in the end, it turned into a tour focused solely on Jomon Sugi, but it was a very fulfilling experience. This is all thanks to our guide. Although we mentioned that we had some mountain climbing experience, our knowledge was that of beginners, so the guide taught us how to use trekking poles, and since it was just the two of us, they took many memorable photos at beautiful spots. Above all, the various stories shared were very interesting. I truly believe it was a wonderful tour. The next day, we went to Kumsoikyo on our own, and we were able to take our time on the round trip to Taiko Rock, which I thought was great in its own way. The lunch we had at Shiosai was also delicious.
Compared to the Jomon Sugi tour, this was a shorter and more accessible tour. Most of the people walking seemed to be individuals, and since the path is straightforward, I think I’ll try walking it myself next time. The scenery is enchanting, and when you reach the top, you can enjoy the stunning view from Taiko Rock, which gives a sense of accomplishment. I was surprised to see a Yakuzaru walking, which I hadn’t seen yesterday. It was the only animal I saw on this trip, and I was really happy about it.
Our customized tour with Fuji-san was amazing, as we had only one full day in Kyoto I was worried we wouldn't get to see everything. Not only did we do everything we had on our list, but he took special interest in showing us things for our young children (ages 3 and almost 6) that we hadn't considered doing, such as the Toei Movie studios lot. My son LOVES Power Rangers, it was the highlight of his trip, and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the female heroine of the samurai show. He suggested a better order of doing things, so that we could see certain sights before they became too crowded. When we admired the view of Kyoto from the mountainside, he took us to a nearby temple with panoramic views of the city. He knew great spots for taking the best photos, and where to eat. He was kind and patient with our rambunctious children, and explained the history and meaning behind EVERYTHING, from the statues to the temple bells. In addition, the van we rented was spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean. I would definitely book with VELTRA again, and would give Fuji-san the highest rating possible for his knowledge, patience, sweet demeanor and excellent English. Thank you Fuji-san for an unforgettable day!
We were picked up by our guide at around 4:30 AM at our accommodation and headed to the entrance of Shiratani Unsuikyo. Along with the two of us, there were five others in our group, making a total of seven participants.
Since we started in complete darkness with headlamps, we couldn't enjoy the scenery at all. About 1.5 hours into the hike, when we stopped for breakfast at a mountain hut, it finally became bright enough to see our surroundings.
We passed through the mossy forest that inspired "Princess Mononoke," jumped at Taiko Rock, and enjoyed our lunch at the Wilson Cedar stump.
Once we reached the trolley path, it became monotonous and very boring.
The Jomon Cedar was truly magnificent, but we could only view it from a wooden deck under construction, so we couldn't get as close as I had hoped. Even taking photos from a distance didn't convey the impressive scale.
I understand it's for protection, but honestly, I wish we could have gotten a bit closer.
Also, I think the course that covers both Shiratani Unsuikyo and Jomon Cedar in one day would be tough for those who don't usually exercise. There was someone in our group who seemed to be in pain with their knees.
There were many rocky areas, and the stairs had significant height differences, putting a lot of strain on the knees.
On the way back, while some people took a shortcut on the trolley path to catch a bus, we decided to follow our guide back via the mountain-crossing Unsuikyo route. It took about 1.5 hours longer than taking the bus, but I was glad we did it because I wanted to see the Unsuikyo scenery in the daylight.
If you exercise regularly, as long as you go at your own pace, it shouldn't be too tough.
We did not find Fuji but instead Taiji our guide who has helped to turn bad weather into an interesting trip. We visited the Kimono museum, traditional Japanese noodles house with fresh organic ingredient from the farm (and Horse Sushi I know!) and end the trip with shopping spree in Gotemba before being dropped off at the hotel. Special thanks for extra Japanese vocab and help with contact in Kyoto.
We had last minute snow in end of march witch remained for about 10 or more days in different area in Fuji.
Although we couldn't see the mountain I'm happy to hear that you had a good experience.
Thank you for giving me such nice comment. I hope everything including your business is fine.
Our group consisted four adults including two 6'3 250 lb guys. Our driver, Fuji, was an absolute pleasure; well spoken, well prepared, insightful and courteous. We were picked up in a Toyota Century - a $100,000 luxury sedan. As a car enthusiast this was a delight as it's something we don't get stateside and the only V12 made by Toyota (outside of Formula 1!). We were very comfortable in the car. I had written up a plan of sites to see, Fuji commented on each location and we pared it down to 6 chosen locations.
What we saw in our 6 hour tour was easily 2 days worth of content. We started the day at Kennin-ji to see the dragon and walk the grounds, then headed towards Arashiyama via Uzumasa (Fuji recommended). In Arashiyama we saw the Tenryu-ji temple then walked along the Bamboo Forest road, we split for the monkeys and an owl cafe. Then took in the Katsura River and the general beautiful scenery with some shopping and headed for Kinkaku-Ji by way of Ninna-ji. Then we went to Fuji's secret overview spot with a glass tea house. From there we walked the 1001 Buddha statues in Sanjusangendo where Fuji gave history lessons on the deities, the religious text/background and archery competition famous to the area. Finally we were dropped off in Gion to walk Shirakawa-Minami Dori and observe the geisha and folks in costume with the beautiful scenery.
Fuji's insightful comments to each site were well appreciated, his VIP treatment with drop off/pick up was a boon for our more handicap party members and the ability to adjust the tour (bathroom, food, etc.) was well worth the extra expense over a comparable tour bus. His suggested locations and activities gave us a behind the scenes look in Kyoto as well as the typical iconography in the area. We will happily use this service again in our next trip.
For a group of 3 or more individuals this type of tour makes good financial sense and the convenience over a tour bus or larger grouped setting is invaluable.
During my first visit to Yakushima, I wanted to see as much as possible in my short two-night, three-day stay, so I chose this challenging course. (laughs) I had only done a six-hour mountain trek once before and had no experience, and since I usually work in an office, I was filled with anxiety, but I managed to get through it!
Unfortunately, the weather on the day in Yakushima was rainy all day, with temperatures around 3° to 5° near the summit, and the footing was somewhat poor. There were several times I thought I couldn't go on! However, the sense of accomplishment after walking for 12 hours was immense.
Even with my Gore-Tex rainwear, I ended up getting wet inside, so I was really glad I brought a change of clothes.
The guide was very helpful, sharing information about Yakushima and pointing out highlights along the way. That day, my group had the tour all to ourselves!
Other guides were handing out snacks, so there might be some differences depending on the guide (laughs).
When it was raining, the view from Taiko Rock was completely obscured, and everything was white. That was a bit disappointing, but it was definitely worth seeing with my own eyes.
I noticed a few people from other tours who had to retire along the way, so I think whether you can complete it or not varies by individual. However, if you can handle a six-hour mountain climb, I believe you can reach the goal without retiring.
As for Jomon Sugi, it is now surrounded by nets, and you can only see it from a very far distance, which was disappointing.
I ran into some local guides at a bar, and they mentioned that this course is chosen by only about 20 out of 300 people, making it an athlete's course (laughs). If you're considering this, keep that in mind and prepare yourself, and you might find it manageable!
Next time, I want to take my time and enjoy the nature of Yakushima even more, as it is such a wonderful place!
