It was my first experience on a yakatabune (houseboat).

Although it had been raining right up until the day, it cleared up, and there were moments when the sun shone through. While listening to the captain's detailed explanations, I was able to see the natural beauty of the mountains and observe creatures like ducks and cormorants up close.

I enjoyed the scenery with cherry blossoms in bloom, took in the view of Togetsukyo Bridge, and watched as ducks gathered all at once. More fun than Splash Mountain 🦆. The three boatmen joyfully and rhythmically paddled the boat while talking about the animals and scenery of the Hozu River, including turtles and ducks. It was the best. The three boatmen study various things and also train their bodies for our safe boat journey. I highly recommend it.

For our first couple's trip, we chose Kyoto. We imagined it would be about food tours and shrines, but my husband suggested, "How about river rafting?" I thought, "River rafting, huh? I can't really imagine that," but I made a reservation thinking it would be a memorable experience. To sum it up, it was amazing! I want to do it again! That said, maybe we just had a great boat. We were in a group of three, and they rowed and steered the boat for us. Their skills were impressive, and for about two hours, they entertained us with wonderful stories and also shared the history of Kyoto. Next time we visit, I definitely want to ride again. In mid-October, we were blessed with perfect weather, making it an incredibly enjoyable experience. The two-hour course included everything from explanations and changing clothes (putting on raincoats, boots, and life jackets) to the kayaking experience and receiving photos, so the actual kayaking was probably about an hour. However, it was quite satisfying due to the physical activity involved.

We paddled through a very calm and sparkling lake with a transparent bottom, with only the wind and waves from distant sightseeing boats creating some ripples. It was impressive how quiet it was, allowing us to hear the guide's voice clearly amidst the magnificent scenery.

The soft serve ice cream we had afterward was delicious! It was such a wonderful experience that I would love to go again in a different season.

(It was worth bringing him on the plane.)
