I joined a French traveler who wanted to visit Yakushima, a place I had been to before. This time, they specifically requested a guide, and I served as the interpreter. Trekking while listening to interesting explanations provided just the right short breaks, allowing us to walk at a good pace.

過去にも訪れた屋久島に行きたかったフランス人に同行する形で参加しました。今回は是非ガイドさんを頼んで欲しいと言われて、私がその通訳を。
興味深い説明を聞きながらのトレッキングは、時々ちょうど良い短い休憩にもなってテンポ感よく歩けました。

Regarding the tour guide, while they didn't exhibit particularly bad behavior, their lack of enthusiasm was quite noticeable. I understand that due to cost issues, there wasn't a bus guide, but all the information about Okinawa was provided through a pre-recorded audio system on the bus.

Additionally, it would be helpful if they could call out names or display the tour name on a poster at the meeting point, as it was unclear which bus to board. Also, the name of the tour displayed above the bus front should match the name of the tour we are participating in to avoid confusion.

These are the points that concerned me. I hope for improvements.

特に酷い態度を取ったりするわけではないが、やる気のなさがすごい
費用などの問題でバスガイドがつかないのはわかるが、バスの中での沖縄案内は録音済みの無線で全て済ませていた。
あとは集合場所で名前を呼ぶなりツアー名などの案内を画用紙等で表示させてくれないとどのバスに乗るのかわからない。それとバスフロントの上に表示させるツアーの名前を参加するツアーの名前と同じにしてくれないとわからない。

以上が気になった点です。
改善よろしくお願いします。

The day before, I went trekking to Jomon Sugi. The next day, I went to Shiratani Unsuikyo with Mr. Tawaki. I was a bit anxious about participating alone, but he shared many stories about Yakushima, which was very educational. Mr. Tawaki's stamina while talking continuously during the hike was impressive. The lunch was delicious too!

In the afternoon, I tried kayaking for the first time, and I was able to grasp the techniques along the way, which made it really fun. The yomogi mochi and tea we had on the sandy beach were incredibly tasty. I also had the opportunity to try SUP, making it a day filled with satisfaction and excitement. Next time, I want to explore waterfalls, river climbing, and Mount Miyanoura, among other places. Mr. Tawaki taught me all of this...

前日に縄文杉トレッキング。翌日に田脇さんと白谷雲水峡。一人参加で少し不安でしたが心ずっと屋久島の色んな話してくれて勉強になりました。登山中ずっとしゃべり続ける田脇さんの心肺能力凄いです。お弁当も美味しかった！
午後からはカヤック初挑戦でしたが、途中からコツもつかめてとっても楽しかったです。砂浜で食べた、よもぎ餅とお茶すごく美味しかったです。SUPも体験させていただき大満足と大感動の1日でした。次回は滝や沢登り宮之浦岳等々まだまだ行きたい所があります。全部田脇さんに教えてもらったのですが…

The guide provided thorough explanations, which made me feel comfortable participating. I think I’ve learned enough about mangroves to explain a little to others. Even though the rain forecast was 90%, it only rained for a few minutes and quickly cleared up, so it wasn’t hot even in the summer. I realized that weather forecasts aren’t very reliable.

The trekking was a good workout for both someone in their 40s who is out of shape and a fifth grader, and we had no troubles at all. The senior couple with us were also fit, and we were able to enjoy the experience together.

The lunch we had at Pinai Sara was delicious! The waterfall was magnificent, and the water level was as expected from the rain forecast the day before. After returning from the monsoon, we were relaxed by the horses and the owner. Even a half-day was enough to thoroughly enjoy the experience!

ガイドの方が丁寧に色々と説明くださり、安心して参加できました。マングローブのこと、少しは人に説明できるようになったかなーと思います。90%の確率の雨予報でしたが、雨が降っても数分ですぐに上がって、真夏でも暑くなくて、天気予報は、あまり当てにならないと思いました。

トレッキングは運動不足の40代も小学5年もトラブルなく、良い運動になりました。シニアカップルも健脚な方々で、一緒に行動できました。

ピナイサーラで食べたお弁当、美味しかったです！滝は見事でした、水量は前日からの雨予報の滝の様子です。モンスーンに戻ってからは馬やオーナーに癒されて終了。半日でも十分楽しめる内容でした！

I participated in a guided tour of Shiretoko Five Lakes. We walked at a leisurely pace while listening to the guide's stories. Since it was a small group, I was able to ask questions. Along the way, we encountered a mother and baby Ezo deer and were able to observe them up close. Each of the Shiretoko Five Lakes was beautiful in its own way.

知床五湖のガイドツアーに参加しました。ガイドさんの話を聞きながらゆっくりしたペースで歩きました。少人数のグループだったので質問もできました。途中エゾシカの親子に遭遇し、近距離で観察できました。知床五湖もそれぞれに美しかったです。

I was able to enjoy sightseeing in the northern region comfortably on a beautiful large bus. The tour guide was cheerful and articulate, and spoke fluent English. The sashimi for lunch was fresh and delicious. It seemed to be a popular place, as many locals were there by opening time. It was also nice that we didn't have to wait for our seats during the tour. We spent an hour at Daishi Forest Park, where the shapes of the rocks were interesting, and there were impressive sights like the large banyan tree. We also had a fun time observing the Okinawa rail with explanations from the staff. I was delighted to receive lemon jelly, lemon cake, and a bottle of water as a gift.

綺麗な大型バスで楽に北部観光が出来ました。添乗員さんはハキハキとして明るく、英語もペラペラでした。昼食のお刺身が新鮮で美味しかった。人気店らしく開店時間には地元の方々が沢山いらしてました。ツアーでは待たされず席が用意されているのも良かったです。大石林山は1時間の滞在でしたが岩の形も面白く、大きなガジュマルの木など見応えがありました。ヤンバルクイナも施設の方の解説があり楽しく観察出来ました。レモンゼリーとレモンケーキ、お水1本プレゼントがあり嬉しかったです。

Due to the rain the previous day, I wasn't sure how far we could go, but I was glad we were able to see the mossy forest safely. Although it was raining at first, the sun peeked through, and the forest after the rain sparkled and was very beautiful.

Since rain was forecasted again from the afternoon, we walked quickly, but the guide pointed out the small insects, budding plants, and changes in the forest, which was enjoyable. We also encountered a hornet and a pit viper along the way, but the guide responded quickly, which was reassuring.

By the way, the guide had an impressive, almost sage-like way of moving! I'm not used to mountain trails, but the guide taught me where to be careful, so I was able to walk without any problems until the end!

前日の雨でどこまで行けるかわからない状況でしたが、無事苔むす森を見ることができてよかったです。
最初は雨が降っていたものの晴れ間が見えて、雨上がりの森はきらきらしてとてもきれいでした。
お昼からまた雨の予報だったので急ぎ足で歩く中でも、ガイドさんが森の小さな虫や芽吹き、変化に気づいてお話してくださって楽しかったです。
また、途中スズメバチやマムシにも出会ってしまったのですが、ガイドさんがすばやく対応してくださって心強かったです。

余談ですが、ガイドさんは流石の仙人のような足取りですごかったです！
私は山道慣れていないですが、ガイドさんが気をつけるところなど教えてくださったので、問題なく最後まで歩けました！

It was my first time in Yakushima, and I'm glad I hired a guide! I learned a lot about the plants and the island, which changed my perspective on what I was seeing! Unfortunately, I couldn't see Jomon Sugi, so I want to try again!

初めての屋久島だったのですが、ガイドさんをお願いしてよかったです！植物の話や島の話まで勉強になり、島を見る目（観点）が変わりました！生憎縄文杉は観れませんでしたのでリベンジしたいです！

I booked a local day tour to Kamikochi, which really saves the hassle of constantly changing buses. The journey is long, but fortunately, there are rest stops to stretch your legs. We had three hours in Kamikochi, which was really enough time. The scenery is truly beautiful and worth it, even though the ride was long.

預定了日本當地的一日遊去上高地真的省去不停換車的麻煩.只是路途遙遠.還好中間有休息站下車動一動.在上高地有3個小時的時間.真的足夠.風景真的很美很值得.雖然坐車很久.

I was able to focus on trekking with peace of mind since I could leave all the time management to them. Above all, it was great that the guide took photos of us at the best spots, allowing us to create memories smoothly without worrying about where to take pictures. They also prepared miso soup for lunch, which helped alleviate our fatigue. I enjoyed the conversations with the other participants, and I'm glad I joined the tour!

時間配分も全てお任せできるので安心してトレッキングに集中できました。
何よりベストショットの位置でガイドさんに写真を撮っていただけるので場所選びに迷うことなくスムーズに思い出作りができて良かったです。お昼のお味噌汁もご用意してくださり疲れも軽減されました。
ご一緒した方々との会話も楽しくツアーに参加して良かったです♪

I was quite anxious on my first trip to Yakushima, but thanks to our veteran guide, I was able to enjoy the journey to Jomon Sugi immensely. Thank you for sharing the history and the beauty of Yakushima with humor! I felt reassured as I could rely on the guide for pacing and rest stops. 🥳 I was also grateful that the guide actively took photos for us. The picture of the Wilson stump that looks like a heart 🩷 was taken from a perfect angle by the guide. 🥹 It truly became the best memory.

I've fallen in love with Yakushima! I want to go back again!!

I quit my job and came to Yakushima for a two-month vacation. It's been over a decade since my last visit. Last time, I relied on a friend and didn't know much about Yakushima, so this time I did a bit of studying beforehand.

The first thing I can say is that taking a tour to see Jomon Sugi was definitely the right choice. The guide who accompanied us shared so much knowledge about Yakushima, which was very educational. The two women who joined us were also quite fit, so we were able to enjoy the tour without any difficulty while walking!

会社を退職して、2ヶ月の有休を満喫するため、十数年ぶりの屋久島に来ました。
前回は友人任せで、ほとんど屋久島を知らなかったので、今回は少し勉強して来ました。
最初に言えることは、縄文杉はツアーにして大正解でした。今回案内していただいたガイドさんは、屋久島を余すことなく教えていただいたので、とても勉強になりました。一緒に同行された女性2人も体力があり、歩いていて苦にならずにツアーを満喫できました！

It was completely different from what I expected. It was a three-hour course with quite a bit of ups and downs, and I was definitely tired afterward. The guide shared various information along the way. I heard that it snows in winter as well. It went by so quickly; I think I could have gone a bit further. I feel like I was able to recharge my energy in nature.

全然思ってたものと違ってました。
結構アップダウンもあり3時間コースでしたがしっかり疲れました。
道中ガイドさんが色々な情報を教えてくれました。冬は雪も積もるそうで。
あっという間で、もう少し先まで進んでもよかったかな。
自然の中に入りパワー補給できたと思います。

The guide's time management was excellent! I'm really glad we requested a guide! On June 30th, I participated with three classmates. The rainy season ended early, and it was a day without a drop of rain. As a 60-year-old beginner, I was full of anxiety, but thanks to our handsome guide, Ando, I was able to meet Jomon Sugi and complete the tour safely.

He encouraged us to push through on the way there and made sure to pause at points on the way back to prevent any injuries, reminding us to be careful. His attentive reminders were greatly appreciated in situations where I felt overwhelmed. The miso soup during lunch was comforting and delicious!

He created some extra time on the way back, allowing us to enjoy nature while icing our feet in the river! He even treated us to coffee, which was an incredibly luxurious experience. Thank you so much for that! He took a lot of great photos, and his photography skills were impressive!

When I selfishly pointed out, "There should be a handrail here," he replied, "We're intruding in nature after all," which made me feel a bit embarrassed. Hearing about the times when it didn't rain and the forest suffered made me reflect on how nature is deteriorating. I want to keep in mind that I can do small things to help. The forests of Yakushima have a mysterious power. I feel like I've been purified and have become a slightly better person! After two or three days, I already want to go back again.

ガイドさんをお願いして本当に良かったです！6/30に同級生3人で参加しました。
早めに梅雨が明け、雨が一滴も降らない１日でした。
60歳初心者で不安だらけでしたが、ガイドのイケメン安藤さんのお陰で縄文杉にも会えて無事終了する事が出来ました。
私たちの様子をみて往路を頑張り、復路は怪我がないようポイントでは一度立ち止まり、注意を促して下さいました。
危ないと思っても頭が回らない状況に、細やかな声掛けはありがたかったです。
昼食時のお味噌汁も沁みました！美味しかったです！
復路で余裕を作って下さったので、川に足をつけてアイシングしながら自然を満喫！
その中でコーヒーまでご馳走してくれました。最高に贅沢な時間をありがとうございます^_^
写真もたくさん撮ってくれました。さすがに撮り方も上手くていい写真ばかりでした！
自分本位に「ここに手すりがあるば」と言ったら「あくまで自然の中にお邪魔してますよ」と言われ恥ずかしくなりました。
雨が降らず森が枯渇した事があった話を聞き、自然が壊れてきてる事を改めて考えさせられました。
小さい事でも自分に出来る事を心がけたいと思ってます。
屋久島の森は不思議な力があります。
浄化されて少しいい人間になれた気がします！2、3日経ったらまた行きたくなってます。

I really learned a lot from the explanations while seeing various aspects of nature. It's a shame that the weather wasn't great; it would have been perfect otherwise.

自然について色々見ながら説明して頂き本当に勉強になりました。
あと天気が良かったら最高だったのに残念です。

We went with a private guide. I’m in my 50s and didn’t do much training, but thanks to the guide's careful instructions and engaging conversation, I managed to finish despite feeling tired. On the way back, we even got to play in the river, which felt great. Thank you, guide!

ガイドさん貸切でいきました。
50代であまりトレーニングもせずに臨みましたが、ガイドさんの丁寧な案内と飽きさせない会話で疲れましたがなんとか完走しました。
帰り道は川遊びまでさせてくれて気持ちよかったです。ガイドさんありがとう！

The desired time was fully booked, so I was kindly guided to an earlier time, and I appreciated the concern about transportation to the meeting place. It was cloudy, but the temperature was nice, and the fog cleared up along the way, making the scenery beautiful. I had brought my folding binoculars, but the binoculars I borrowed were easier to use, so I was glad I borrowed them.

希望の時間が満席だったので、その少し前の時間をご案内いただいたり、集合場所までの交通の心配をいただいたりして大変親切にしていただきました。
曇っていましたが、よい気温でしたし、霧も途中から晴れてきたので景色も良かったです。
折りたたみ式の双眼鏡は持ってきていましたが、お借りした双眼鏡が見やすかったのでお借りして良かったです。

The kayaking time was just right for both the outbound and return trip. I knew we were aiming for the waterfall and its basin, but it turned out to be quite a challenging mountain climb—"rock climbing?!" We took breaks along the way, and with the guidance provided, even a middle-aged couple like us could keep up. I was amazed by the knowledge of our tour guide, Mr. Ishitaba! We had a great time hearing so much about Iriomote Island, its flora and fauna, and insects. I’m looking forward to participating in a different tour next time.

途中休憩しつつ手取り足取り御指南いただいたので中年夫婦でもついていけました

I was also moved by the unexpected appearance of a guest! I was able to fully enjoy the Shiretoko Five Lakes guided tour.

The natural trail was closed due to the typhoon, and the detour was tougher than we expected. Our guide was initially concerned because there are often people in their 70s and 80s who retire or get injured along the way. However, as we followed the guide's advice and walked together, they became more at ease with us. Thanks to our experienced guide, we were able to enjoy conversations and successfully complete the trek. We had a wonderful time in the mystical forest.

台風で自然道が使えなくなり、迂回コースで、思っていたより厳しい道でした。70歳と80歳になる私達夫婦に、ガイドさんは、70代以上で途中リタイアや怪我する人がいるので、当初心配されていましたが、ガイドさんのアドバイスを聞きながら付いて歩く私達に、途中から安心してくださり、会話を楽しみながらベテランガイドさんのお陰で、無事に踏破。神秘の森で、素敵な時間を持てました

Thanks to our guide who set the pace, I was able to walk all the way to the end without much fatigue. The weather was favorable, and the scenery of Jomon Sugi, including the Yakusugi along the way, was wonderful. I also had encounters with deer and monkeys.

ガイドさんがペースメーカーを担っていただいたおかげで，大した疲労もせず最後まで歩きとおすことができました。
天気に恵まれ，途中の屋久杉を含め，縄文杉の景色が素晴らしく，鹿，猿に遭遇することもできました。

Due to the rain, I couldn't go to Kamikochi on the day, but the destination was quickly changed to another sightseeing spot. Moreover, I was able to participate for free the next day. Thank you for the prompt response.

雨の原因で、当日上高地に行けなかったが、すぐ目的地が別の観光地に変更されました。しかも次の日に無料で参加することができました。迅速な対応ありがとうございました。

- I was worried about whether I would make it to the boat since I was scheduled to leave Yakushima that day, but after informing them in advance, they arranged the schedule so that I could make it.
- It was great that they adjusted the rental shoes to fit my size on-site. My friend found that the shoes were one size smaller than what we had indicated, but they had brought the correct size as well, which was a big help.
- The guide was also very kind and taught us a lot, and they walked at a pace that was easy for us, which was a relief. I think we enjoyed it more than if we had gone on our own, so it was definitely good to have a guide.

・当日屋久島を離れる予定だったので船に間に合うか心配でしたが、事前にお知らせしたところ、間に合うように予定を立ててくださいました。
・レンタルも靴のサイズなどを現地でも合わせてくださって良かったです。友達は現地で靴を履いてみたら、サイズがお知らせしていたよりもワンサイズダウンだったのですがちゃんとサイズ違いも持ってきてくださっていて助かりました。
・またガイドさんもとても親切で、いろいろ教えていただけましたし、疲れない速さで歩いてくださったので助かりました。自分たちで行くよりも楽しめたと思いますのでガイドさん付きで良かったです。

The weather was great, the guide was wonderful, and I was fortunate to have great companions, making for a truly lovely experience. At tourist spots like this, it's easy to just take photos and feel satisfied, but I appreciated having time to really take in the sights after the photo sessions.

天気にも恵まれ、ガイドさんにも恵まれ、同行者の方々にも恵まれ、とても素敵な体験ができました。
こういう観光地って、写真に撮って満足してしまいがちですが、写真撮影した後にしっかり目に焼き付ける時間も取っていただき良かったです。

Our tour had two guides for three participants, including myself, and I quickly got the hang of kayaking for the first time. I paddled my own kayak up the Hinai River, which is lined with mangroves, and trekked through the jungle to reach the Pinai Sara Falls, completing a round trip that lasted four hours. This experience allowed me to truly feel the essence of Iriomote Island, where over 90% of the area is jungle.

By the way, to protect the natural environment of Iriomote Island, the number of tourists allowed to enter the protected area during kayak tours is limited to 200 per day. During Golden Week, we almost reached that limit with 200 tourists (this company had two guides for 14 people), but today there were only about 60 people in total across all companies, which is 30% of the capacity. The high-speed ferry was also not crowded, so it was a good decision to visit after Golden Week.

With this, I was able to make up for the trip I couldn't take to Iriomote Island last October due to a typhoon. Next time, I plan to stay on Iriomote Island and try snorkeling and stargazing as well.

僕を含めたツアー参加者３人にガイドが２人つき、初のカヤック操作も直ぐに慣れました。
自分でカヤックを漕いでマングローブの茂ったヒナイ川を遡り、途中からジャングル内をトレッキングしてピナイサーラの滝まで行くという往復４時間のコースを通して、島の90％以上がジャングルと言う西表島を肌で感じる事ができました。

ちなみに西表島の自然保護のために、カヤックツアーで保護地区に入場できる観光客数を200人／日に制限している中、GW中はほぼ200人に達する観光客（この会社は２人で14人をガイド）だったのに対し、今日は全社合計で僅か60人と定員の30％だったそうです。往復の高速船も空いていたし、GWの後にして正解でした。
これで、昨年10月末に台風の影響で西表島に行けなかったリベンジを果たせました。
次回は西表島に宿泊して、シュノーケリングや星空の観測もしてみようと思います。

It was more challenging than I expected, but the weather cleared up halfway through, and it was really nice. When I said my legs were tired, they made time for me to rest by putting my feet in the river. There weren't many breaks, but I was glad we were able to do everything on time!

The tour guide made miso soup for us. I felt a sense of accomplishment, which was great. Even though it was a weekday, there were a lot of people climbing, and I think I want to try it without a guide next time.

思ったより過酷でしたが、天気が途中で晴れとてもきもいよかったです。
あしが疲れたと言ったら、川に足をつけて休む時間を作っていただきました。
休憩は少なかったですが、
時間通りに全てできてよかったです！

登っている方が平日でしたがおおくて、次回はガイドなしでチャレンジしたいと思います。

My friend and I participated, and there were two groups in total, including a couple. The guide assessed our fitness levels and set a pace that was comfortable for us, and there was absolutely no difficulty in having conversations. The day after the trekking, I felt zero fatigue! I am grateful to have met such a wonderful guide. Thank you! ♫

友人と二人で参加、私達の他にはご夫婦で参加の計二組でした。ガイドさんは私達の体力を見極め無理のないペース、そして会話も弾み辛いという思いは全くなかったです。トレッキング翌日も疲労はゼロでした！！

The guidance and explanations were very clear, allowing me to participate in the Yakusugi tour with peace of mind. Being able to see and experience the untouched nature with my own eyes was the best memory of all.

We participated as a couple over 60 years old. The guide noticed that my wife might find the walking difficult and adjusted to my pace. They always encouraged us, providing detailed instructions on walking techniques, how to use trekking poles, and route selection, and we reached Jomon Sugi. On the way back, my legs started to feel numb, but the guide motivated us to keep going, and I almost cried. I couldn't have succeeded without the guide. I am truly grateful.

60歳を超えた夫婦で参加しました。
トロッコでの歩き方で、奥様はもしかしたらきつくなるかもしれませんと、ガイドさんに見抜かれ、私のペースに合わせてくれました。
いつも声をかけてくれて、歩き方、ストックのつき方、ルートの取り方など、細かく教えてくださり、縄文杉に到達しました。
帰りも足がしびれてきましたが、頑張りましょうと励ましてくれて、もう泣きそうでした。
ガイドさんがいなかったら、成功しなかった。感謝しかないです。

It was more of a solid mountain climbing experience than I expected. I had imagined walking on a slightly bumpy hiking trail, but it was a well-defined mountain path, and I got quite tired. However, I was able to feel the greatness of nature. If you're feeling even a little energetic, definitely go for it!

思っていたよりしっかり登山な感じでした。
ハイキングの少し凸凹した道を歩くのをイメージしていましたが、しっかりとした山道で、かなり疲れましたが、自然の偉大さを感じることができます。
少しでも元気なうちにぜひ！
