Great cost-performance, it was a wonderful performance that will be remembered!

I used to live in Hokkaido, but at that time there were no facilities like Upopoy, and I had no opportunity to experience Ainu culture. However, during my recent trip back to Hokkaido, I learned that there was an event like this happening at just the right time, and I thought it was fate, so I participated. Both the Noh performance and the Ainu dance were absolutely wonderful, and I was completely absorbed. Additionally, the pricing was more affordable than the round-trip train fare, and the schedule was punctual, so I really have no complaints. Thank you!

Traditional Japanese Dance Lesson in The Art of Nihon Buyo

Outstanding experience to appreciate traditional Japanese dance

Reviewed by: MMM

As a ballroom dancer, I was interested in learning about traditional Japanese dance. This activity provided an excellent cultural experience that gave an appreciation for the skills required to really perform the dance correctly and beautifully.

First we were dressed in a kimono - a cultural experience itself! Then the master showed us how to properly hold the fan, the basic walk, posture and stance. Finally she showed us a portion of a dance that gave us a chance to actually try to dance.

While the master did not speak much English, our guide interpreted as we went along so it was never an issue.

Prepare to work and get sweaty! The master went easy on us but a real student of this dance has to pay attention to every detail and nuance.

I got exactly what I hoped to get - a little bit of an understanding and appreciation for this highly skilled art form. Highly recommended.
