I had the opportunity to experience Bingata at a hands-on workshop where I could try my hand at everything from coloring to outlining in about 90 minutes. I chose a tote bag and received a lecture from the instructor about the history of Bingata. It was a direct experience that made me realize just how difficult this art form is, and I truly appreciated its value. On the third day after bringing it home, I washed it... Although it's a rather clumsy piece I made myself, it has become a precious souvenir that carries the unique cultural scent of Okinawa. I hope Bingata becomes more widely known.

Since it was forecasted to rain, I made a reservation here in advance for an indoor experience. Fortunately, during the time we experienced it, there were no other participants besides the two of us, so we received thorough explanations. We signed up for two coasters and an optional small tote bag. First, we chose our favorite design from several options. The painting was not too difficult, so I recommend it for families with elementary school children. After the experience, it seems that we will complete the tote bag and coasters at home by ironing and washing them, so I'm looking forward to seeing the finished tote bag and coasters once we get back home. It's located along Kokusai Street, so you can also stroll and shop in the area before and after the experience, making it especially recommended on rainy days.

It was raining on the day of arrival, so I quickly participated with my son! We had a lot of fun, and time flew by! This facility offers various experiences, so it might be a good idea to stagger your visits and try multiple activities at once. Also, since it's located on Kokusai Street, I personally think it would be great for dads and kids to experience it while moms are shopping! I definitely plan to use it again when I visit Okinawa. There's also a parking lot underground, making it convenient for getting around with a rental car.

Since I came to Kyoto, I wanted to experience something related to traditional crafts, so I made a reservation. I was the only one for the authentic furoshiki experience, but the staff were very kind to me. They frequently checked in with questions like, "Are you okay?" and "How is it going?" Even though there were other participants, I felt comfortable and could concentrate without being neglected. They were all very attentive, making sure that my brushes and paints were not drying out.

Lastly, I would like to share something that left a lasting impression on me. When an older male staff member noticed that I had accidentally applied paint to an unintended area, he said, "Let's hide this part too," and even though all the steps were finished, he prepared a stencil for me. I was feeling down, thinking I had ruined it, but thanks to his quick thinking, I was able to add a cute detail, which I was very grateful for.

Although it took until just before closing time, I was able to create a one-of-a-kind special furoshiki. I would like to come back next time to make something else.

閉店ギリギリまでかかってしまいましたが世界に一つだけの特別な風呂敷を作れました。また今度は別の物を作りに伺いたいと思います。

During my solo trip, I found a perfect experience tour that I could book since it was within walking distance from my hotel. Heading a bit south on Oike Street, I entered a charming machiya-style building where a workshop was located. There were many school trip students there, lively painting their designs.

Since I was alone, I went up to the quiet second floor of the machiya. The building had been beautifully renovated, and my spirits were lifted. This time, I painted on an obi-age, but there were various options available, such as cotton eco bags, pouches, and smartphone cases. Additionally, there were stencils! There were so many types that it was hard to choose, and I instantly fell in love with a 'cat' stencil that was different from what I had originally planned.

There were three stencils, and to keep them in place, I fixed them with washi tape in two spots and further secured them with a needle, then painted with a brush. Until I got the hang of it, I struggled to blend the colors well, and I ended up applying too much color in some areas. There was a sample available, but it was challenging to figure out how to layer the colors like that. It was a fun three hours that flew by while I was focused. Finally, I decided on the fabric dye color, and it will be mailed to me in a month.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

修学旅行生もたくさんきていてにぎやかに絵付けしていました。
私は個人なので、静かな町屋の2階へ。町屋造りの建物をうまくリノベーションして、気分は上がるばかり。
今回、帯揚げに描きましたが、綿エコバッグやポーチ、スマホケースなどいろいろと種類がありました。さらに、型紙！！これがまた悩んで困るほど種類があり、自分の予定したものとは違う『ねこ』型紙に一目ぼれ。
型紙は３つあり、位置がずれないようにマステを２か所固定し、さらに針で打って、はけでクルクル塗っていきます。コツをつかむまではうまくぼかせず、どっかり色が乗ってしまったなあと。見本が一応あり、いかにそのように色を載せるのかがむつかしかったです。集中しながらも楽しく、あっという間の３時間でした。最後に布の染色カラーを決めて、１か月後に郵送されるtのこと。
どんな出来上がりとなるのか、今からとても楽しみです。

I went alone.
They taught me very carefully, and even though I didn't understand much, I learned by looking at examples and following instructions. As mentioned in other reviews, it took about five hours. Even for someone with a messy personality like mine, it took that long, so I think meticulous people might take all day or even longer.
It's quite a time-consuming task, but the sense of accomplishment when you finish is wonderful! I was very focused and managed to do it, so I was worried at first about whether I could, but I was relieved that I could do it. I would like to use this service again.

Loved being able to do something crafty in Kyoto! While the instructors didn’t speak english, there were English instruction handouts and it was still a great experience. You get to choose what shape of chopstick you want to make and then you paint a case for your new chopsticks. I would say while it wasn’t hard, it was still challenging enough to be fun for anyone to participate

Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Kyoto!

We travel all over Japan, trying different workshops and this was well worth it! The instructors were polite and very patient with us. The provided detailed explanations and helped you through the entire process. They did not do the work for you but instead, told you how to accomplish things. My wife could not stop smiling the entire time because it was such a wonderful experience. If ever in Nagano, this is a must do experience!

Originally, I had signed up with my child and sister, and I had applied with the idea of assisting my child. However, after hearing about the experience on-site, it seemed that even children could manage it well, so in the end, all three of us got to participate. We were amazed by the beautiful and vibrant colors, as well as the variety of hues (purple, pink, yellow, red, etc.), and each of our designs turned out uniquely, which made everyone very happy. My mother mentioned that she would like to try indigo dyeing as well.

もともと、子供と姉の二人で申し込んでいて、一応母には子供の補助のような感じで申し込んでいたのですが、現地でお話を聞いた後、子供でも十分できそうだったので結局３人とも体験させていただくことになりました。とても綺麗で鮮やかな発色と、色の多彩さ（紫、ピンク、黄色、赤など）には驚かされ、それからデザインなども三者三様に仕上がって、皆とても喜んでいました。母はまた藍染にも挑戦してみたいと言っていました。

It was my first experience with Yuzen dyeing. I was kindly taught. However, I ran out of time and was disappointed that I couldn't finish it completely. On the bright side, I was able to dye the main pattern, so that was good. If I have the opportunity, I would like to try it again.

Since I had time on my solo trip, I wanted to create something I could use in my daily life, so I chose to experience Yuzen dyeing on a cotton furoshiki. The design sample indicated it would take 2 to 3 hours, but I got a bit lost in the colorful options and ended up spending 5 hours from the time I arrived. Even so, I was able to work at a leisurely pace, and it was worth it because I ended up with something truly wonderful. I am very satisfied.

It was a great experience. My design took 4 hours and 9 stencils. It turned out beautiful in my opinion. They packaged it up really nice at the end as well.

I was only shown about 10 designs to choose from, maybe because I was doing the advanced workshop and on a large piece of fabric. I got a quick intro on how it worked and how to paint and then I was left to my own devices. What I assume was the master craftsman would stop by every once in a while to see how things were going and look at my progress. Do not expect this to be a step by step class, but staff is available if you have questions. I jumped right into the advanced class as I am artist who loves painting and making things, but I don't recommend doing that if you are not comfortable painting. It is not as easy as just putting one color down in one area of the stencil, you need to layer colors, like just the petal of a flower needs red, black, and white; if you use just red, it will be flat.

It was my first time using an "experience" during my travels.

I thought it would be a simple process with predetermined designs and steps, but from choosing the design, it turned into a serious and intense three-hour session, haha.

Thanks to that, I completed a wonderful stole. I would love to participate again.

I created a tapestry. Since I participated alone, I was able to proceed at my own pace. Thanks to the staff, who were very kind and provided thorough guidance, I was very satisfied with the finished product. It was so enjoyable that time flew by, and I ended up making another piece as well. I definitely want to go again!

I wanted a furoshiki that was practical, but once it was finished, it turned out so beautiful that I wanted to frame it and display it. Since we used molds, I felt at ease even without artistic skills. What was supposed to take 3 to 4 hours ended up taking a whole day, but they kindly supported us through the unclear and difficult parts, and at times, they playfully encouraged us when we did well. It was a dyeing experience that makes me want to go back again.

実用重視で風呂敷を、と思ったのですが、出来上がったら綺麗で額縁に入れて飾りたいくらいでした。
型枠を使うので絵心が無くても安心です。
3.4時間のはずが一日かかりましたが、分からないところや難しいところは優しくフォロー下さり、(時に上手に出来ていると乗せられ笑)また行きたくなる染物体験でした。
