The sea wasn't too rough that day, but since it was a small boat, it rocked quite a bit, and there were some people who felt sick and ended up vomiting. If you are prone to motion sickness, I definitely recommend taking anti-nausea medication before boarding.

Unfortunately, we hardly saw any whales. We might have caught a glimpse of a tail a few times in the distance, but it was so brief that there was no time to take photos. Just being able to see them was a small consolation. So, the whale watching experience was disappointing this time.

However, Tokashiki Island was very nice. The conversations during the car ride around the island were also interesting. I was soothed by the beautiful sandy beaches and scenery.

Thanks to the tour that included landing on Tokashiki Island, the disappointment of not seeing whales was somewhat alleviated.

当日海はそこまで荒れていませんでしたが、小さな船なのでそこそこ揺れ、具合が悪くなって吐いている方がいました。乗り物酔いをする方は、絶対に吐気止めを服用してから乗船したほうが良いと思います。

残念ながらクジラはほとんど見られませんでした。
遠くの方で数回尻尾が見えたかな～というくらい。
それも一瞬なので、写真を撮る余裕はありません。
見れただけマシという程度。
なのでホエールウォッチングに関しては今回は残念な結果でした。

ただ渡嘉敷島はとても良かったです。
渡嘉敷島内を移動する車の中でのお話も興味深かったです。
きれいな砂浜と景色で癒されました。

渡嘉敷島上陸が付いているツアーに申し込んだおかげで、クジラのガッカリ感は半減しました。

It was hot every day, but it was very cool on the water, almost chilly.
We encountered a pod of orcas.

The weather was great, making it a perfect memory.

・母の1ダイブ分のお金が無駄になったけど、私の3DIVEめ分に利用できなかった。
・帰りのボートが速すぎていっぱい機材が入っているカゴが動いて座ってたベンチと足が挟まれて怪我をした。
・痛いって叫んだし、絶対見てたはずなのに誰も見てみぬふりされた。
・その時は痕が付き、その後腫れた。

I was worried about the weather, but it turned out fine, and I felt relieved when the boat departed. Just to be safe, I took some motion sickness medication, but I didn't feel much rocking at all, so I was completely fine (I usually get motion sickness easily, though...).

At first, I was worried about not being able to see anything, but they changed locations and found a whale spouting. They got us close and even maneuvered the boat so we could see it multiple times, which was great. It was heartwarming to see a mother and calf swimming close together. Although we didn't get to see the tail fluke like you do in photos or on TV, I definitely want to try again.

On the boat, I was allowed to sit at the bow, and even without seeing any whales, just staring at the ocean was refreshing.

I was unsure which tour to choose, but the location was easy to find, parking was convenient, and it was close to town, so I'm glad I went with the tour from Chatan. I missed out on getting a postcard and handbook, though.

　心配していたお天気も大丈夫で船が出発して一安心でした。
　念の為酔い止め薬を飲みましたが揺れとかもそんなに感じず全然大丈夫でした。(基本的には酔いやすいのですが…)

　最初は見れなくてどうなるかと思いましたが、場所を変え探してくれて塩吹きを発見しては近付き、先回りをしては姿が見れるように船を走らせてくれて何度も見れて良かったです。
　親子で寄り添いながら泳いでいる背中も見れてほのぼのしました。
　写真やテレビで見るような尾ひれをあげてとはいかなかったですがまたチャレンジしたいと思います。
　船では舳先に座らせてもらいクジラが居なくてもボーッと海を見ているだけでリフレッシュできて良かったです。

　どの場所から出発のツアーにしようかと迷いましたが、場所もわかりやすく車も停めやすく、町中からも近くて北谷発にして良かったです。
　ポストカードとハンドブックもらいそこねました。

Since I stayed near Mihama American Village, I looked for a whale watching tour departing from the nearby area instead of Naha, and I found this tour. It was within walking distance from American Village to the port, and perhaps by chance, we encountered whales about 30 minutes after leaving the port by boat. We saw at least three whales, including a mother and calf. There weren't any big movements, but we were able to see flukes and pec slaps.

There were etiquette bags hanging everywhere, anticipating that people might get sick. If you are prone to seasickness, it's best not to go in the winter.

At the end of September, I went on a cruise on a day with not much whitecaps. Early on, we encountered many dolphins swimming, and during the approximately two-hour cruise, we saw three sperm whales. One of them was quite close to us. We also spotted a beaked whale swimming in the distance. I had a 0-year-old baby with me, but we participated using a baby carrier, and the baby slept the entire time during the cruise. There were two guides and one driver, making a total of three staff members, which made us feel safe while on board.

I traveled from Abashiri, but on the Rausu side, it was foggy and rainy, and even though it was summer, it was very cold on the boat. It was quite difficult to encounter whales. On the way there, my wife and child got seasick due to the unexpectedly high waves and rocking of the boat, but we were able to refresh both our minds and bodies during our break and beach stroll on Tokashiki Island. It took about an hour to reach offshore, and we spotted a whale. On this day, around 11 boats gathered for the observation. Each boat seemed to keep a distance while chasing the humpback whales, and perhaps due to the blue whales, we had to search for their surfacing spots, which felt like they were about 200 to 300 meters away from the boats. We were able to see breaching.

When I participated last January, there was a mother and calf whale, so their diving time was shorter, and at times we were as close as 10 meters, which felt much closer.

Since there were many international guests on board, I think it would have been more enjoyable if there had been explanations about the whales. (On another boat, there was a lecture, and they used an underwater microphone to listen to their calls, but I couldn't hear it...)

This was my third whale watching experience, but we only saw their backs this time.
What was even more disappointing was that there were no explanations about the whales' ecology or their calls during the trip.

However, it's a matter of luck, and the whales were farther away than I expected (laughs). The guide was friendly and kind, which made for a comfortable experience.

We took motion sickness medication, so we were fine, but many others seemed to be struggling with seasickness, and the staff appeared to be busy helping them. About two-thirds of the passengers were foreigners. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see any whales, which made half of our precious trip feel wasted. It seems that the chances of encountering them are quite low in late December. In February, however, they say you can see them almost every day. Although the internet advertised a high probability of sightings, it didn't specify the timing, so we were unaware. We received a re-boarding ticket, but it's difficult for travelers to return during that period.

As for the whales, I was able to see them several times, but unfortunately, my family didn't see any at all. I definitely recommend participating during the season when you can board a larger cruise.

We gather at Chatan Fishing Port and head to the point by cruiser. They also sell drink-type motion sickness remedies at the reception, so if you forgot yours, you can purchase it here.

We arrive at the point in about an hour. There are many similar cruise ships docked, so it's easy to recognize where we are. At first, we spot a spout from a distance and then get closer. We approached within a meter, and from there, we saw it multiple times. We witnessed the spout and the whale coming up, doing a twist before diving back down several times. Although it wasn't very large, it was quite impressive!

I ended up feeling seasick, but it became a great memory. Even after taking motion sickness medicine, I still got seasick.

I'm glad we discovered the whales quickly! The staff member was guiding us on the direction whenever a whale appeared, so we were able to see them multiple times! The kids took motion sickness medication, but I definitely think adults need it too.

I used the service on July 16, 2022.
I received a confirmation call the day before, which was helpful as they informed me about parking and the weather.

Since it’s a natural experience, there was uncertainty about whether we would see anything, but fortunately, we were able to see orcas. They were quite close, and since they were in a pod, we could see several orcas swimming in a straight line. Additionally, we also saw dolphins and seabirds.
