Since I don't have a driver's license, the bus tour was the best option for the northern area. The schedule was appropriate for the sightseeing spots, and it didn't feel too rushed. I booked the Pumpkin Cave and sea kayaking, but I received a cancellation notice the day before due to bad wave conditions. When I inquired, I was told that only the sea kayaking could proceed, so I decided to go ahead with that. The instructor led the way, which made me feel safe and allowed me to enjoy the experience. They also took photos and sent them to me later, which was great. If I have the chance to go again, I would like to try the Pumpkin Cave again for a rematch.

In every travel magazine and website, it was recommended not to attempt it at the end of the year due to weather conditions, but it went smoothly!
I was a bit anxious about my footing because of the snow and ice, but the guide took it slow, so even as a first-time climber, I was able to successfully ascend and descend.
There were moments when I felt like giving up, but the snow-covered mountains were incredibly mystical, and I’m glad I took on the challenge! It also gave me a sense of accomplishment that makes me feel like next year will be a good one!
The bento I had on the mountain was delicious, and I want to experience that feeling again. I’ve become motivated to continue climbing in the future!

I was curious if there was a place to do stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) or kayaking in such a town, but once I arrived, I found myself paddling on a wide river surrounded by Okinawan plants.
As a traveler, I wanted to find a place where I could experience this without any gear, but since most places offer similar services, I recommend checking their websites thoroughly. There were changing rooms available, and the parking lot could accommodate five cars.
One thing to note is that your backside will definitely get wet while kayaking. Also, experiencing this in January can be quite cold, and there is a possibility of rain. If you can prepare, you might need rain gear for both your upper and lower body. However, when I communicated to the staff that I didn’t have any rain gear and didn’t want to get wet during my trip, they kindly lent me rain pants for free. They also provided shoes. However, a towel is essential, as you'll need it to dry your feet afterward. So, I brought a towel that I didn't mind throwing away during my travels.
We paddled back and forth on a river about 300 meters long. Along the way, we listened to explanations from the staff. Although the distance was short, we leisurely paddled and enjoyed the kayaking experience. It was quite cold in January, but during the summer, there are no trees to provide shade, so it will definitely be hot. Unfortunately, the weather in the morning wasn't great, but thanks to that (?), we had an exhilarating and thrilling canoe experience. The stories we heard about Iriomote Island during our travels and while on the canoe were very interesting and enjoyable. (Especially the stories about the traffic lights on the island and the mangroves and salinity.) In the afternoon, the weather improved, and we were able to spend a relaxing and healing time on Yufu Island under a beautiful blue sky. We truly enjoyed both the harshness and warmth of nature in just one day.

I participated in a hiking tour to the moss-covered forest of Shiratani Unsuikyo. It was a bit rainy on the day of the tour, but thanks to the rain gear included in the rental, I was able to walk comfortably without any issues, even in the rain.
Our guide, Sei-san, was very knowledgeable about the moss and the forest, providing clear explanations and plenty of jokes, which created a fun atmosphere throughout the tour. During the photo sessions, he suggested various poses, allowing us to capture many wonderful memories in photos.
It was a highly satisfying tour where I could also enjoy the unique beauty of Yakushima in the rain.

I made a reservation for a day's activities, but unfortunately, the snorkeling in the afternoon was canceled due to strong winds. I only participated in the canoeing, but it turned out to be a great experience. I'm glad I joined.
First, the day before, I received a phone call in the evening to confirm the time and location of participation. It was very polite. However, while asking for height was fine, asking for weight was a bit much... It would have been better to just ask which size of life jacket (S, M, L) I preferred.
On the day of the activity, we gathered in front of the red post box 📮. The meeting place was easy to find, so there was no confusion. Foreigners and Japanese participants were separated into different groups. I was with only Japanese participants.
In the car, we used an app to register the consent form. The guide provided information until we arrived. During this time, the guide, Taishi, recommended some delicious restaurants and menu items, which I actually visited. I'm really glad I got those recommendations. It was incredibly helpful advice.
During the activity, there were two guides for four groups of participants. I heard that some people can hurt their backs, and I thought, "No way," but getting into the canoe position was quite tough 💦.

車の中でアプリを使って同意書の登録。到着まではガイドさんから案内。この時のガイドたいしさんから美味しいお店やメニューを教えていただいて、実際行きました。教えてもらってて本当よかった。めちゃくちゃありがたいアドバイスでした。
アクティビティ中→参加者4組に対してガイドは2人ついてくれた。
腰を痛める人もいるとかで、まさか〜と思ったけど、カヌーに乗る態勢ってなかなか辛い💦
途中ガイドさんが写真をとってくれて、写真はすべてデータでもらえます。20枚くらい送ってくれました。
解散後→無料のシャワーをかりて着替えました。シャワー室は鍵がついてないのかな…ちょっと不安ですね。
全体としてガイドさんたちの質が高い。写真撮影などのサービスもよい。アクティビティの内容も時間もちょうどいい。
シュノーケル中止は残念でしたが、次回ぜひ参加します！凄く楽しかったです。

In late December, I participated in a day trip from Ishigaki Island for a mangrove forest canoeing and buffalo cart tour on Yubu Island.
On the day of the trip, due to rough seas, the Uehara route was canceled, so we took the 7:30 ferry to Ohara Port and used the ferry company's bus to get to Uehara Port. (I heard that cancellations are common during this time of year.)
In the morning, we experienced canoeing in the mangrove forest. The strong winds made paddling difficult, but it felt like a jungle adventure, and it was a truly valuable experience.

In the morning, I experienced canoeing! The wind was strong, making it difficult to paddle, but the staff helped me out, which was a great relief. I also had my 3-year-old and 5-year-old children with me, and they had a lot of fun. We were able to see the mangroves up close, which made for a wonderful experience. I learned that there are various types of mangroves and gained insights into the different adaptations they have for survival.
In the afternoon, we rode water buffalo to Yubu Island. It was my first time being pulled by a water buffalo, and I was moved by their earnestness. The buffalo we had on the way there and back were different, each with their own unique personalities and ways of pulling, which was quite interesting. The sanshin music and singing were also lovely.
