I participated on March 9. I had a night flight scheduled to return, and the tour was supposed to end at 7:30 PM, but I was told right after getting on the bus, "You might barely make it to your flight or you might not make it at all." Since my flight was around 9 PM, I thought I would be fine and had already booked my ticket. As expected, there were many people who were consistently late for the meeting time, so when we arrived at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, I decided to get off the bus and take a shuttle bus (2000 yen) to the airport from there. I understand that there can be some delays in a tour, but according to the tour guide, the end time is often delayed by about 30 minutes to an hour. I think this should be noted in the tour's instructions, and it would be nice if there were reminders for those who are late for the meeting time.

夜のフライトで帰る予定があり、ツアー終了予定が19時半だったのですが、「フライトにはギリギリになるか間に合わないかもしれません」とバスに乗ってすぐに言われました。フライトは21時頃だったので間に合う予定でチケットも取っていたのに。
案の定、毎回集合時間にルーズな方も沢山いらっしゃって、美ら海水族館に着いた時点でバスを降りてそこから空港までシャトルバス(2000円)で行くことにしました。
ツアーなので多少の前後があるのは理解していますが、添乗員さんの話では毎回30分〜1時間ほど予定より終了時間が遅れるとのことでした。ツアーの注意書きに記載していただきたいですし、毎回集合時間に遅れる方への声掛けがあってもいいのになと思いました。

I joined the tour because I wanted to visit the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. Since I was staying in Chatan, it was difficult to go on my own, so this was very helpful.
The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium was great, of course, but I also had some free time, so I went to Emerald Beach as well. It was beautiful!

Although we were worried about the rain forecast, we were able to enjoy our first experience in Yanbaru with beautiful weather, as the sun peeked through the clouds during our visit to the seaside restaurant, Cape Hedo, and trekking at the Oishi Forest. The journey was comfortable in a large bus, and the earphone guide was helpful. The little gifts we received along the way made for a nice tea time, and the shikuwasa juice after trekking was delicious. I thought both the itinerary and the lunch were very good.

There were some minor troubles along the way, and we returned about an hour later than scheduled due to traffic. Some people left the group early because they were worried about missing their flights, but you never know what might happen on a long drive, and traffic jams in Naha are well-known, so delays are to be expected. To avoid any unpleasant experiences, especially on a full-day bus tour, I recommend not scheduling anything immediately after and booking your itinerary for the middle of your trip. That's what I do. I felt sorry for the tour guide, who was always polite and attentive.

途中ちょっとしたトラブル、そして渋滞もあり帰りは予定より一時間弱遅れての帰着となりました。フライトに遅れると言う理由で途中離団されたかたがいらっしゃいましたが、ロングドライブでは何が起きるかわかりませんし、那覇市内の交通渋滞は周知の事実で、遅延は想定内です。みんなが不愉快な思いをしないよう、終日バスツアーは特に、後ろに予定をいれず、旅程の中日に予約をとられることをおすすめします。私はそうしています。終始丁寧に対応されていた添乗員さんがお気の毒でした。

I have previously cycled around both Lake Biwa and Awaji Island, and I believe that those who have completed these rides should have no significant physical issues with the Jomon Sugi tour. The guide provides appropriate breaks and explanations of the sights along the way, so you can consider it comparable to a cycling event that is about 100 km long with a decent elevation gain.

However, if you usually only exercise on a road bike, please be cautious on the return from Jomon Sugi. On a road bike, you typically ride on paved roads, so as long as you are straddling and braking properly on descents, you should be fine. But on the Jomon Sugi tour, you will need to descend rocky areas and stairs on foot, which puts significant strain on your ankles, knees, and hips for about four hours. (I experienced pain on the outside of my knee, which I believe is what is referred to as runner's knee.)

As a precaution, I recommend strengthening your core and using trekking poles to find a descent method that minimizes strain on your body before participating in the tour. I used trekking poles for the first time on the day of the tour, but since I wasn't accustomed to them, there were moments when they actually added to my burden.

Regarding meals, I requested two bento boxes (two rice balls, fried chicken, sausage, fish, and pickles) as part of the tour options for breakfast and lunch. The contents were almost the same for both meals. In addition to the bento, I brought two pieces of bite-sized yokan, received some salt candies and gummies from other participants, and had oral rehydration gel to prevent muscle cramps, which may have been more than I needed.

For those who have cycled for ten hours in a day, I think less food than that would be sufficient. As for drinks, I brought two 600 ml bottles of barley tea, but I ended up only needing one and refilled with spring water along the way, making one bottle completely unnecessary.

In early March, the estimated temperature around Jomon Sugi was in the low single digits, with cloudy weather and occasional rain, including some hail. Depending on the season, hydration needs can vary greatly, so if you find that spring water is sufficient, you might consider refilling along the way to reduce your load.

Regarding restroom facilities, I took care of my needs before departure and sipped water every few minutes, which was enough to make it to the toilets set up along the route. This can vary greatly depending on the season and individual needs, so please use this as a reference. Just in case, I brought one portable toilet for emergencies and five portable urinals I bought at a 100 yen shop, but I brought too many urinals.

自分は過去にロードバイクで琵琶湖、淡路島共に一周の経験がありますが、縄文杉ツアーはビワイチ、アワイチをこなせた方は体力的にはほぼ問題無いかと思います。
ガイドさんによる適度な休憩、道中の見所の説明等があるので、１００km程度で、それなりの獲得標高になる〇〇ロングライドと名前の付く自転車イベントと同等程度と考えていいでしょう。
ただ普段の運動がロードバイクのみという方は、縄文杉からの帰りには気を付けて下さい。
ロードバイクだと基本舗装路の為、下りは跨がって、適切にブレーキをかけていれば何とかなりますが、縄文杉ツアーの場合、岩場や階段を自分の足で降りるという行為が発生します。
どういう事かというと、ロードバイクの下りではほとんど問題無い足首、膝、股関節に非常に負荷がかかる状況が約４時間続く事となります。(自分は膝の外側に痛みが出てしまいました。おそらくランナー膝と呼ばれるものだと思います)
対策としては、体幹を鍛える、トレッキングポールを使用する等、体に負担のかからない自分に合った段差の下り方を、ツアー参加前に試して見たほうがいいかと思います。
トレッキングポールを当日初めて自分は使いましたが、使い慣れていないせいで、かえって負担になる場面もあったように思います。
あと食事についてですが、自分はツアーのオプションで朝昼のお弁当(おにぎり２個、からあげ、ウインナー、魚、漬物)２食分をお願いしました。(朝昼共内容はほぼ同じ)
お弁当プラス持参した一口羊羹２個、他の参加者の方から頂いた塩飴、グミと、筋肉の攣り対策の為持っていった経口補水ゼリーで自分は少し補給が多かったかもという感じでした。
自転車で一日十時間走った事がある方は、その時より少な目の補給食で十分かと思います。
また飲み物ですが、600mlのペットボトルの麦茶を二本持って行きましたが、結局一本と道中で湧き水を一本分補給した程度で十分間に合い、一本は完全にデッドウェイトとなってしまいました。
3月上旬、縄文杉あたりの気温推定一桁前半、曇時々雨、途中あられという天候でしたが、季節によって水分補給の状況は大きく変わるかと思いますが、湧き水で十分な方は道中で給水し、荷物の負荷を少しでも減らす事を検討してもいいかもしれません。
その他トイレ事情ですが、出発前に大を済ませ、道中の給水を一口ずつ、数十分おきでしていましたが、それで道中に設置されているトイレで十分間に合いました。
季節や個人差が大きいものなので参考程度にして下さい。
念の為、簡易トイレ用の携帯トイレ一つ、１００円ショップで買った小便用の携帯トイレ五つ持って行きましたが、小便用は持っていき過ぎでした。

長々と書かせて頂きましたが、参加しようと思っている方の参考になれば幸いかと思います。

The three-day weekend coincided with the Sapporo Snow Festival, making everywhere bustling with activity. Foreign languages were flying around, and it felt like being in another country. About 20% of the bus tour guests were Japanese, while the rest were mostly Chinese. The bus guide was also Chinese, alternating between Japanese and Chinese for the announcements.

The highlight of our main destination, Asahiyama Zoo, was the King Penguin walk! When we arrived a little before the start time, we were guided by the staff to the end of the line. There was already a long queue, reminiscent of waiting for a star to make an appearance.

The Mangrove Cruise on Nakama River, which I prepared for by kayaking in the mangroves the day before, was fresh and full of new discoveries. It was also a rare treat to see an Iriomote cat swimming in the distance. The bus tour was enjoyable thanks to the driver's entertaining commentary, which made me want to chime in. By the time we said our goodbyes, we had become friendly enough to express our thanks in the local language we learned. I rode the water buffalo cart both ways, and each buffalo had its own personality, which was adorable. The sound of the sanshin was pleasant as well. I highly recommend taking a commemorative photo with the water buffalo on the island; it will make for a memorable keepsake. Choosing to explore Taketomi Island by renting bicycles was definitely the right decision. We were able to take our time and explore at our own pace. 前日カヤックマングローブで予習して臨んだ仲間川マングローブクルーズは、また新たな発見があり新鮮でした。遠くに泳いでいるイリオモテヤマネコを見れたのも貴重でした。バス観光は運転手兼ガイドさんのトークが楽しくてついついツッコミを入れてしまいました。お別れの時は、教えてもらった現地言葉でお礼を言えるまでに仲良くなれました。水牛車は行き帰り乗りましたが、水牛にもそれぞれ個性があって可愛かったですよ。三線の歌も心地よかったです。島での水牛との記念撮影は是非ともおススメです。思い出の一枚となりますよ。最後の竹富島は、レンタサイクルによる観光を選んで正解でした。ゆっくり自分たちのペースで見て回れました。次回は黒島にも是非行ってみたいですね。

I was worried about not being able to book a plan with a rental bicycle, but I was able to borrow an electric bike without any issues. Since there were some hills, the electric bike was the best choice! I was glad to ride the water buffalo at the last time while keeping an eye on the clock. However, the water buffalo we rode was quite leisurely and seemed to enjoy the service, so it didn't move very fast, making me anxious about returning the electric bike on time. I hurriedly got off as soon as we entered the water buffalo barn and managed to return it safely, which is also one of the fun memories.

お天気に恵まれ暑かったです。一日で効率良く3島の島巡りが出来るのはとても良いかと思います。レンタサイクル付きプランが申し込めず現地で予約出来るのか心配でしたが無事電動サイクルをお借りする事が出来ました。やはり坂があったりするので電動は最高です！時間を気にしながら最終時間の水牛にも乗れて良かったです。ただ私達が乗った水牛さんはのんびりでサービス旺盛なのか中々進んでくれず電動サイクル返却時間に間に合わないような進み方でハラハラドキドキしながら乗っていました。水牛舎に入るなり慌てて降りて無事返却が出来てこれも楽しい思い出の一つですね。

Although we could only walk about one-third of the course today, it was originally a half-day course, so we were able to take our time and enjoy the explanations. We had a lovely rainy day on a warm and dry bus. Nice spots to give a good view of Tokyo with a nice lunch. Comfy yellow bus with big windows.

The Shinjuku station pickup spot could be noted a little more clearly. Directions take you to the Hato bus office so we went very early and caught someone. It wasn’t clear that they would be there the whole time or locked up so just know there is a 1 and 2 bus stop just for Hato on the street directly across from the Starbucks that is outside from the office (not across the street, but just a straight walk out towards the street). The pole sign will call out their different packages and they will be there to ensure you’re on the right bus.

There were many Asian tourists, and I was one of the few Japanese people there. Shirakawa-go is indeed very popular in the Asian region! My friend had only seen snow a few times, so they were amazed by the climate and scenery. Although most of the thatched roofs were nearly free of snow, it was snowing on the day of our visit, and it was quite cold. Some people were dressed in a way that looked cold, so I felt like I was shivering every time we passed by each other. There were also areas where the snow had melted and the ground was muddy, so I think it's better to wear waterproof and comfortable shoes.

The free time at both spots was two hours, which was just the right amount of time for sightseeing, eating, and shopping. Everyone kept to the schedule, and I think the event went smoothly. The staff were kind and provided explanations in Japanese, English, and Chinese, and they distributed pamphlets, which was very thoughtful.

自由時間は両スポットとも2時間で観光+食べ歩き+買い物でちょうどいい時間でした。皆さん時間も守っており、スムーズに催行されたと思います。スタッフの方は優しく、日本語、英語、中国語で説明しており、パンフレットを配布したりなど親身で良かったです。
