If it's full, you can't get on. It's difficult to rely solely on the Sky Hop Bus for transportation. You'll end up using taxis as well. It was an amazing trip, touring beautiful Tokyo just before the Olympics with the Hato Bus Tour, and I was impressed by the power of the double-decker bus! I've been to Kyoto many times, but this was my first experience with the Sky Hop Bus. The hop-on, hop-off option for 2,500 yen is a great deal and highly recommended.

However, its effect didn't last long, and it was still hot. When the bus is moving, the wind feels nice, but about half the time is spent waiting at traffic signals, which is just really hot. During hot periods, I recommend staying hydrated, protecting against sunburn, and bringing items like ice packs.

However, seeing Kyoto from a high vantage point was a different experience and quite enjoyable. The ability to hop on and off and tour around Kyoto's famous spots is also appealing. The moment I passed under the large torii gate of Heian Shrine, as shown in the image, was indeed impressive.

Considering the third wave of COVID-19, I was actually contemplating canceling my trip until the very last minute. What ultimately made me decide to go was the open bus.

The weather was just right—not too cold or too hot (although it was quite windy, haha)—and I was able to enjoy myself with peace of mind.

In reality, I prepared for various situations by purchasing not just antibacterial items, but also antiviral coats and masks (the kind that are quite exaggerated), as well as newly released antiviral gloves. I took every precaution and was fully equipped, but I found that I didn't need any of that on the open bus, and my sister and I enjoyed ourselves without worry the entire time. (However, I believe all that preparation was useful for the journey to get there.)

Since we could hop on and off freely, we were able to skip crowded spots, and there were plenty of points we could enjoy from the bus. This time, we enjoyed the autumn leaves at Kinkaku-ji and Kiyomizu-dera, which were both under construction (so there were fewer people, I suppose).

The new style of bus is perfect for now, allowing for even more enjoyable and safe experiences. I highly recommend it. (My sister and I are both actively working, with a combined age of 130 years!)

　乗り降り自由なので混みそうなところは全部パスでき、バスからでも十分楽しめるポイントも多々あり、今回は工事中ですよ（だから人は少ない筈）の金閣寺、清水寺で紅葉を楽しみました。
　新スタイルバスは今だからこそ。いっそう安心して楽しめました。
お勧めです。（お仕事現役バリバリ姉妹御年合計130歳）

I have visited Kyoto many times before, but this was my first time using a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus. Unlike my younger days of walking everywhere, this experience was free from the crowds of city buses, and the simple schedule of every 30 minutes was easy to understand and accurate.

Above all, the view from the second floor was uplifting. It felt like an event just being on the bus, with passersby waving at us, the chance to see the traditional townhouses of Kyoto from above, and even passing just under the gates of temples.

清水寺のバス停では、バス停常駐のスタッフの方から私に声をかけて下さり、（バスのパンフレットを手にしていたから？）鉄道でいうなら駅員さんのように、検札や運行案内をして頂きました。
連れていた子供には、文具のプレゼントまでして頂きました。
予約時には少々値が張るかと思っていましたが、
どのスタッフの方もよくして下さり、旅先で何かと不案内なことの多い旅行者には、安心して利用できて良いのではと思いました。
京都リピーターの私も、今回のバスは新鮮な楽しみ方ができて良かったと思いました。

Great for a day in Kyoto

My husband and I only had a day to spend in Kyoto and we looked into day tours but most only took you to two sites. The hop on hop off bus was a great solution. It took us to all the major sites and we get to see way more in 1 day then we would have otherwise. The bus station stop by Kyoto station was easy to find and the other stations were well marked. Staff was friendly and even let us know if certain buildings were closed due to coral virus. When it started to rain we received a poncho as we were getting off the bus and the next bus we got on was enclosed. After the rain stopped we go on an open roof bus and the staff even came up to wipe down any seats that might still be wet. Totally worth it if you only have a short amount of time in Kyoto

We really enjoyed the double decker bus. The city is beautiful and we never would have had the chance to see as much as we did on our own. The staff were super amazing at the bus pick up. My son and I even got back on the bus just to ride around the city after we stopped at so many amazing shrines.
The only drawback was (and this has nothing to do with the tour company) is that most of the places were closed to visitors due to Covid-19.
I would definitely recommend this company to anyone interested in getting a more general perspective of the city.

I participated in this tour for the first time to visit the main attractions in Kyoto. Since it was early March, the open-top bus was cold, but they provided us with hand warmers, which helped us cope with the chill! The open design and height of the bus made it great for viewing the streets of Kyoto.

Although you can hop on and off freely for a day (24 hours), if you miss a bus, you have to wait 30 minutes, and the service is limited to 9 AM to 5 PM, which makes the actual number of rides quite few. I felt the price was a bit high. If you want to take your time exploring the tourist spots, I think it would be more efficient to use a bus or taxi for transportation.

When I was running to catch the bus and almost missed it, they waited for me, which I appreciated and felt their kindness.

3月の初めだったので、オープントップバスは寒かったのですが、乗る際にホッカイロをくださったので寒さも乗り切れました！オープンで高さがあるので京都の街並みを見るにはいいかなと思います。
