Important activity information

Restrictions

  • Children 12 years old and above can participate in this activity.
  • Trekking in high temperatures can be very demanding and requires good stamina and heat tolerance. Guests who are concerned are encouraged to prepare with exercise such as running.
Although the jungle offers shade, humidity can exceed 90%, and the course includes many ups and downs, increasing the risk of heatstroke.
  • If you have any medical conditions, injuries, or health concerns that may affect your participation, please inform us in advance. If you feel unwell on the day of the tour, please notify us beforehand.
Unreported conditions may result in immediate cancellation for safety reasons. We are not responsible for any incidents caused by pre-existing conditions or injuries.
  • Participation is not permitted under any circumstances if you have consumed alcohol. Drinking alcohol during the tour is strictly prohibited.
  • Participation is generally not permitted for guests who are pregnant. However, depending on the stage of pregnancy and the tour details, participation may be considered. Please feel free to contact us for consultation.
  • Available Languages: Japanese or English
Guests must be able to communicate at a basic level in Japanese or English

Additional notes

  • The activity schedule is subject to change or cancellation due to weather or traffic conditions.
  • If boxed lunches are unavailable, soba noodles will be provided instead.
  • Transportation within Iriomote Island

Pick-up is available for guests staying in the western area, including Funauki, Uehara, Urauchi, Hoshidate, Sonai, and Shirahama.

Guests staying in the eastern area are asked to contact us in advance.
  • If Uehara Port Is Closed

Sailings to Uehara Port are often canceled in winter or during rough seas. In this case, ferries operate to Ohara Port with a temporary bus service to Uehara.

Please purchase a Uehara ticket and request a bus ticket from the staff when boarding. If unsure, contact Iriomote Island Jungle Book before boarding.
  • Tour Operation Policy

Weather on Iriomote Island changes quickly, and tours usually operate even in the rain. If canceled due to severe weather, notice may be given as late as the morning of the tour.

Tours may also be canceled if the guide cannot operate safely. No fee applies for weather-related cancellations, while cancellation fees for personal reasons apply from 14 days prior.

Tour content or schedule may be adjusted or canceled for safety if conditions change.

Required items to bring & attire

  • What to Wear

Trekking Tour: Sneakers, long pants and sleeves (quick-dry recommended), gloves, and a hat.

Kayak Tour: Swimwear and shoes that can get wet (sandals or Crocs OK).

Sudden showers are common, and some courses allow swimming. Wear swimwear under quick-dry clothing. Day-trip guests must bring a change of clothes, as boarding is not permitted in wet clothing after the tour.
  • What to Bring

Health insurance card (or copy), towel, rain gear, and drinks (approx. 1 - 2L in summer, 500ml - 1L in winter).

Optional items: sunscreen, insect repellent, and sunglasses.

A regular rain jacket is useful in winter as cold protection (light rain gear is fine in summer). UV rays on Iriomote Island are strong, so apply sunscreen and avoid excessive skin exposure. Waterproof cameras or phones in waterproof cases are recommended at your own risk.
  • Rental Items (Free of Charge)
    Light rain poncho
    Simple waterproof bag
Felt shoes for trekking and river walking, and a backpack
Canoe shoes (available in S, M, and L sizes only)
