The canoe experience on the Urunai River was amazing, with very clear water. I learned from our guide, Matsushita (nicknamed Macchan), that the area near the river mouth is brackish water, and that the mangroves differ between the riverbanks and the sandbars. The weather was also perfect that day, with gentle winds, making it a wonderful experience.
After lunch, we took a water buffalo cart to Yufu Island. I heard from the water buffalo cart guide that after a natural disaster made the area uninhabitable, an elderly man planted the vegetation that became the foundation of the current botanical garden. It was surprising to see so many flowers blooming in January, and I was lucky enough to capture a photo of a butterfly coming to sip nectar.
During the ride to and from Yufu Island, in addition to explanations about the water buffalo, we were treated to songs played on the sanshin, which made for some great memories. I want to thank Macchan for taking care of us during the bus rides, canoeing, and the trip to Yufu Island. I also appreciate Shogo, who guided us on the bus, and everyone who helped with the preparations, as well as the water buffalo cart guides. Thank you very much!

マングローブも河岸と中洲で種類が違うとガイドの松下さん（通称まっちゃん）が教えてくださったり、またこの日は天気も良く、風もさほど強くない穏やかな日で最高でした。
昼食後は水牛の観光車で由布島へ。
自然災害で人が住めなくなった後、お爺さん1人で植物を植え、今の植物園の礎を作ったと水牛車のガイドさんからお話をお聞きしました。1月と思えない程のたくさんの花々が咲いており、ちょうど蝶々が蜜を吸いにやって来たところを運良く写真に収める事ができました。
行き帰りの水牛車では、水牛の説明の他、三線で歌を披露していただいたり、とても良い思い出となりました。
バスの移動時の運転から、カヌー引率、由布島までの移動等、まっちゃんにはお世話になりました。
また、バスでガイドをしてくれたショウゴさんや、準備をしてくださった方々、水牛車ガイド方々にもお世話になりました。
ありがとうございました。
いくら南国と言えど、冬のカヌー体験は下半身が濡れるので、寒さ対策又は防水パンツの準備をお勧めします。

The instructor (Macchan) was very knowledgeable and taught us a lot about animals and plants. Not only during the canoeing time but also on the bus, we had great conversations, making for a very enjoyable experience!
We took many photos together, and at the end, they sent them to us. Since it's often hard to get pictures of both of us together when we participate as a pair, I was really happy to receive them♪
It seems there are other experiences available as well, so I definitely want to participate again next time!

I paddled a canoe for the first time in a place rich in nature. The guides were all friendly and shared various stories with us, even providing detailed explanations about the mangroves! I can only describe them as truly kind.
I also got along well with the other participants, and in the afternoon at Yufu Island, we spent time together and had many conversations, experiencing the wonderful connections that travel brings.
Including the guides and all the participants, everyone was incredibly kind, and I was reminded of the importance and goodness of human connections. It was the best vacation! Thank you!

I participated in a mangrove canoe and Yubu Island water buffalo cart tour in early January. In the morning, we had a canoe experience in the mangrove forest. The strong winds made it difficult to paddle at first, but once we entered the mangrove area, the wind was blocked, making it much easier to paddle. Although the weather was unfortunately cloudy, I was able to have an extraordinary experience while feeling close to nature.
For lunch, we went to an Okinawan restaurant recommended by our guide, where my wife had the goya champuru set meal, and I had the Yaeyama soki soba.
In the afternoon, we joined the Yubu Island water buffalo cart tour. The sun peeked out in the afternoon, and we enjoyed seeing tropical plants and animals on Yubu Island, as well as the experience of touching the water buffalo and taking photos. It was a lot of fun.

お昼はガイドの方に教えていただいた沖縄料理の店で妻はゴーヤチャンプル定食、私は八重山ソーキそばを食べました。
午後は由布島水牛車ツアーに参加しました。午後からは晴れ間も見え、由布島で熱帯の動植物を見たり、水牛に触れて写真を撮る体験もでき、非常に楽しめました。
新婚旅行での参加でしたが、二人で心に残る非常に素晴らしい体験ができました。

As expected from a large tour company, it was great that reservations and cancellations were possible even the day before, providing a high level of flexibility, which made it reassuring to book considering the weather and other factors. The communication felt quite business-like, and it seemed they were diligently following a manual. I participated in a half-day kayak tour, and the hotel pick-up was smooth. There were five of us kayaking on the calm waters of the Urauchi River.
Although there seemed to be many guides, our guide was knowledgeable and explained the names of various plants well, allowing us to fully enjoy the nature of Iriomote Island. While I think kayaking and SUP tours in Ishigaki Island might be slightly cheaper, I believe it’s better to experience the more magnificent nature of Iriomote Island.
I deducted one star because, despite it being a rare sunny day in winter on Iriomote Island with no strong winds, they switched us from the SUP we had hoped for to kayaking due to weather reasons. I could only think that it was because we were the only participants for the SUP, and they wanted to consolidate us into one tour. This was reinforced when I happened to meet local tour operators at an izakaya that night, who mentioned that it was a nice day and that they could have easily done the SUP.
Additionally, they didn’t take many personal photos, and there were only one or two usable pictures, with one person even having their eyes closed, which was quite disappointing. I hope that next time we can do the SUP.

星を一つ減らしたのは、風が全然強くなく、冬の西表島では珍しく晴天の日だったにもかかわらず、天候を理由に希望していたsupではなくカヤックにされてしまった事です。
sup参加者が私達だけで、一つのツアーにまとめて集約したいからなんだろうなとしか思えませんでした。というのも、この日の夜以前supツアーでお世話になった地元のツアー業者の方々に居酒屋で偶々お会いし、今日どこに行ったという話になったのですが、今日はいい天気で全然supできたよと皆さん言われていました。
また、個人写真をあまり撮って下さらず、1人が目を瞑っていたり、使える写真が1、2枚程度で非常に少なかったのでがっかりしました。
是非次回はsupができたらなと思います。

Unfortunately, the weather in the morning wasn't great, but thanks to that (?), we had an exhilarating and thrilling canoe experience. The stories we heard about Iriomote Island during our travels and while on the canoe were very interesting and enjoyable. (Especially the stories about the traffic lights on the island and the mangroves and salinity.) In the afternoon, the weather improved, and we were able to spend a relaxing and healing time on Yufu Island under a beautiful blue sky. We truly enjoyed both the harshness and warmth of nature in just one day.

In winter, it seems that the ferry from Ishigaki Island to Uehara Port often gets canceled, but the tour company provided a thorough explanation about this in advance, which made it easy for us to participate. It was really helpful.
I wasn't expecting much from the canoeing due to the bad weather, but wearing a raincoat made it surprisingly enjoyable! The experience is quite different from a sunny day, and I liked that.

When traveling from Iriomote Island to Yufu Island by water buffalo cart, we were treated to a shamisen performance. Unfortunately, the day we participated in the tour was cloudy, but the shallow and calm waters of Okinawa combined with the sound of the shamisen were very pleasant!

In the morning, we experienced canoeing in the mangrove forest. The strong winds made paddling difficult, but it felt like a jungle adventure, and it was a truly valuable experience.
For lunch, we went to a restaurant recommended by our guide and filled our stomachs with curry fried rice.
In the afternoon, we headed to Yubu Island. Although the sky was unfortunately cloudy, we enjoyed a performance of the sanshin (a traditional Okinawan instrument) while riding in the buffalo cart. On Yubu Island, we also had the opportunity to interact with the water buffalo, which was very satisfying.
Finally, we were taken back to Ohara Port. We participated as a family with two toddlers, but we thoroughly enjoyed the great nature of Iriomote Island.

12月下旬、石垣島から日帰りでマングローブ林カヌー&由布島水牛車ツアーに参加しました。
当日は時化のため、上原航路は欠航、7:30の便で大原港へ向かい、上原港まではフェリー会社のバスを利用しました。（この時期は欠航になることが多いそう。）
午前中はマングローブ林カヌー体験でした。風が強く漕ぐのが大変でしたがジャングル探検感覚で大変貴重な経験ができました。
お昼はガイドの方に教えていただいたお店へ。カレーチャーハン？でお腹を満たしました。
午後は由布島へ。あいにくの曇り空でしたが水牛車の中では三線の演奏もあり楽しめました。由布島の中では水牛に触って楽しめる体験もでき、大満足でした。
最後は大原港へ送迎していただきました。
幼児2人連れのファミリーでの参加でしたが、西表島の大自然を満喫できました。

In the morning, I experienced canoeing! The wind was strong, making it difficult to paddle, but the staff helped me out, which was a great relief. I also had my 3-year-old and 5-year-old children with me, and they had a lot of fun. We were able to see the mangroves up close, which made for a wonderful experience. In the afternoon, we rode water buffalo to Yubu Island. It was my first time being pulled by a water buffalo, and I was moved by their earnestness. This time, I booked a tour for mangrove canoeing and a visit to Yufu Island, and I had a really enjoyable time. Paddling through the mangrove forest felt wonderful and was also quite mystical. I was able to see water buffalo up close, which was very satisfying!!
Additionally, our tour guide, "Macchan," was a kind person of the same generation, which made the experience even better! We were able to share various personal stories, which enhanced our enjoyment of the tour. For lunch, he recommended several dishes, and I was thrilled to be able to try "squid ink yakisoba, soki soba, gulkun burger, coffee, and pineapple cake."

I was hoping to go snorkeling, but due to bad weather, it was changed. What a shame.
In the morning, I went on a mangrove canoe tour guided by Matsushita, also known as Macchan. We paddled up the river with mangroves on both sides. The current was gentle, and while listening to explanations about the island, we smoothly made our way forward, enjoying the magnificent nature. Before turning back, we landed on the shore to see some plants and a waterfall. On the way back, we relaxed and arrived at the estuary without having to paddle.
After a lunch break, in the afternoon, we went canyoning guided by Shogo. We walked over rocky areas, jumped in about three times, and slid down the stream. At the waterfall, we enjoyed being hit by the flow, going behind it, and fully experiencing the great outdoors! When climbing the rocks or jumping into the river, the guides carefully showed us where to place our feet, allowing us to play safely.
Canoeing and canyoning may seem difficult, but the guides pay close attention and teach you, so there were no injuries, and it's fine even for beginners. I think even elementary school students can do it. Since we came all the way to Iriomote Island, I believe it's better to leave it to the guides to fully enjoy the island's nature and play safely, plus they teach you various things about the island, which is very helpful.
This time it was winter, so unfortunately the weather wasn't great, but I was very satisfied. Especially canyoning is definitely worth doing at least once!
Also, they provide wetsuits, so it wasn't cold, and we could use the shower after the experience. We got to take a lot of photos as well. I was a bit anxious since it was an unfamiliar place and I was meeting the guides for the first time, but everything turned out to be great!

お昼休憩を挟んで、午後は翔吾さんガイドの元、キャニオニング。岩場を歩いて、途中3回ほど飛び込みをしたり、沢を滑り降りたりしました。滝では、流れに打たれたり、裏側へ回ったり、大自然を満喫しました！岩場を登る時や川に飛び込む時も、足の置き場まで丁寧に教えてくださり、安全に遊べました。
カヌーもキャニオニングも難しそうに感じますが、ガイドさんが細かく見てくれ、教えてくださるので、怪我もないですし、初めてでも大丈夫です。小学生でも大丈夫だと思いました。
せっかく西表島に来るからには、島の自然を満喫でき、楽しく安全に遊べるよう、ガイドさんにお任せしたほうがいいと思いますし、島の色んなことも教えてもらえるので、とても助かります。
今回は冬だったので、あいにくの天気でしたが、大満足でした。特にキャニオニングは一度やる価値有りです！
あと、ウエットスーツは貸してもらえるので寒くはないですし、体験後シャワーも使えました。写真もたくさん撮ってもらえました。なんとなく、始まるまでは知らない土地だし、ガイドさんも初めて会うので不安でしたが、色々ハズレなし感でした。

Canoeing was my first experience, but it was more stable than I expected, allowing me to enjoy it without any anxiety. On the way to the mangrove forest, we faced a strong wind while crossing a large river, which made it a bit challenging to progress, but the view we reached was breathtaking. As we moved through the mangrove tunnel, I was able to enjoy a special scenery that can only be seen from a canoe, making it a very satisfying tour.
I rented a car at Ohara Port and consulted in advance about participating in the afternoon and being able to return on the last ferry. They confirmed it was fine, so I joined the tour, but I decided on my own to skip the shower before heading back. It was quite thrilling in various ways, but I had a lot of fun!

It was a windy day, but I was guided on a special course that suited the conditions, and I had a great time. I had originally signed up for snorkeling, but due to weather reasons, it was changed to canoeing the day before. I participated with a sense of resignation, but in the end, I had a wonderful first-time experience. On the day of the activity, we had calm, sunny weather and high tide, which were great conditions. There were only four of us, so we had two canoes and were able to leisurely enjoy the mangrove forest. Riding the water buffalo cart on Yubu Island was great, and the island had many interesting sights to see. Our guide also pointed out things like the Ryukyu wild boar and the crested serpent eagle along the way, and shared stories about life on the island, making the travel time very meaningful.
シュノーケル希望で申し込んでいた所、天候理由で前日にカヌーに変更になりました。仕方ないか〜の気持ちで参加したのですが、結果、初めての体験が出来てとても楽しめました。当日は無風の晴天、さらに満潮という好条件で、人数も4人で2艇、ゆっくりとマングローブの森を満喫できました。由布島も水牛車に乗ることももちろん、島内も見どころがあって良かったです。ガイドさんも道中に琉球いのししやカンムリワシなどを見つけて教えてくれたり、島での生活のことを話してくれたりして、移動時間も有意義に過ごせました。

In December, the weather was cloudy, and I thought it would be cold to participate, but I was able to experience kayaking without any particular issues.
My lower body got wet and the water was cold, but given the local climate, it wasn't freezing.

It was a wonderful tour. We gathered at Uehara Port and after about 40 minutes, we arrived at the water buffalo riding area, and then we headed to Yufu Island. There were many water buffaloes. We had just under an hour of free time here, which was enough to explore. After that, we returned to Uehara Port for lunch. Our guide recommended a delicious restaurant. We went into a pork cutlet place and were very satisfied. (Meals are not included.) After that, we went on the main mangrove canoe tour. The guide taught us how to paddle, and we were off to challenge ourselves. Time flew by in no time. Even as a beginner, I was able to paddle easily. Your lower body will get wet before you start paddling, so a change of clothes is necessary. The guide takes photos with the mangroves, so there's no need to bring a smartphone or camera. The guides were all very nice people.
素晴らしいツアーでした。上原港集合で約40分で水牛乗り場へ。そしては由布島へ。水牛が沢山いました。ここで1時間弱の自由時間。十分回れました。そして再び上原港へ。そこでランチ。美味しいお店をガイドさんから紹介されました。豚カツのお店に入り、大満足。(食事は込みではありません。)その後メインのマングローブカヌーツアーへ。ガイドさんから漕ぎ方を教わり、いざチャレンジ。あっという間に時間が過ぎてしまいました。初心者の私でも簡単に漕ぐ事ができました。下半身は漕ぐ前から濡れますので、着替えは必要です。マングローブと一緒にガイドさんが写真を撮ってくれるので、スマートフォンや、カメラ持ち込み不要です。ガイドさんは皆さんとっても良い人達でした。

It was my first experience, and I was very nervous, but I was able to relax thanks to the smiling support of our guide, Ishii. As we paddled through the mangrove forest in the canoe, I was able to experience the dynamism of nature and the diversity of living creatures. The explanations were clear, and I had a very fulfilling and enjoyable time.

Since Pipi often conducts tours with relatively large groups, I was a bit apprehensive about potential waiting times, and I heard mixed reviews about it. However, to share the outcome, it turned out to be an amazing tour!
Indeed, there were some waiting times (like during equipment collection and waiting for showers), but I considered those small breaks during the tour, which I actually appreciated! Our guide, Shogo, named our group "Shogo Team," which allowed us to enjoy the experience together with the other participants.
The kayaking experience was a bit challenging due to the weather and strong winds, but we were taken to a field where we could fully appreciate Iriomote Island. Since we were going to get wet anyway, the rain didn't bother me at all, and I had a great time!
Iriomote is quite large, so during our car rides, Shogo shared interesting facts about the island, mixing in humor, which made for a very enjoyable time! He also recommended some great places to eat!
The place where we had lunch seemed to have a proprietor who wasn't fond of media or reviews, so I won’t mention the name, but it was truly a delicious local diner. If you go, I highly recommend asking Shogo for directions!
The timing for visiting Yubu Island was just right, allowing us to explore without rushing or feeling like we had too much time on our hands. The cakes, coffee, and ice cream at Yubu Island Tea House were exceptional, so I definitely recommend trying them!
It seems that the timing for riding the water buffalo cart can vary greatly depending on the buffalo, but the one we had was just right—not too fast and not too slow! Listening to the sanshin was a nice touch that felt very Okinawan!
This tour might not be suitable for those who prefer smaller groups, but I was very satisfied! Thank you!
比較的多い人数でツアー催行をするpipiさんなので待ち時間が発生したりと、評判も良い悪い半々くらいなのでどうかなあ〜と思いながらの参加でしたが....結果からお伝えするとすっごくいいツアーでした！
たしかに待ち時間が発生(道具の回収中やシャワーの順番待ち等)しましたが、ツアー中の小休憩と思えばむしろ私にはありがたい時間でした！
ガイドさんのショウゴさんが｢ショウゴチーム｣と名付けてくれたので参加者の方々と一緒に楽しめることが出来ました！
カヤック体験は天候が悪め、風が強めでしたが西表をめいいっぱい感じれるフィールドに連れて行って貰えて、どうせ濡れるので雨は全く気にならず楽しめました！
西表は大きいので車での移動中も西表の豆知識を笑いと織り交ぜながら話してくれるのでとっても楽しい時間でした！
お勧めのご飯屋さんも教えてくれます！
お昼ご飯を食べたところは店主さんがメディアや口コミが好きじゃないみたいなのであえて店名は伏せますが本当に美味しい島の定食屋さんだったので是非行かれる方はショウゴさんに聞いて伺って見てほしいです！
由布島も丁度いい時間設定なので、急いで回ることもなく、時間を持て余すのこともなく由布島を観光できました！
由布島茶屋さんのケーキ、由布島コーヒー、アイスは絶品なので是非食べて欲しいです！
水牛さんによって水牛車の乗車時間が大きくズレる見たいですが今回の水牛さんは早すぎず遅すぎずナイスな水牛さんでした！三線を聞けるのも沖縄らしくて良きでした！
少人数を好む人には向いてないかもしれませんが私は満足でした！

The activities on Iriomote Island were an experience where I could fully feel the energy of nature. Canoeing on the Urauchi River was more challenging than I had imagined, as I struggled against the wind and waves while paddling hard. However, thanks to our guide, Shogo, who provided precise advice, and the shallow waters of the river, I was able to enjoy it with peace of mind.
After two hours of canoeing, we were introduced to a local dining spot near Uehara Port, which was also great. In the afternoon, the sightseeing at Yubu Island was soothing, with beautiful views from the water buffalo and cart, allowing us to fully enjoy the nature of Iriomote Island.
Even during the car rides, the interesting stories about the unique plants, animals, and customs of Iriomote Island made the experience memorable, and I found myself recalling them in various moments throughout our stay. I heard a story about hunting boars using natural traps, and that evening, I enjoyed delicious boar sashimi at an izakaya that you can't find in Tokyo!
My husband and I are already discussing what we should do next time we come. I would like to challenge myself with a longer trekking experience next time. If that happens, I hope to rely on you again, Pipi!

2時間カヌー、その後上原港近くではローカルな食事処を紹介いただきそれもよかったです。午後の由布島観光は水牛や牛車からの景色に癒され西表島の自然を満喫しました。
移動の車中も貴重な西表島の動植物や慣習などのお話が面白く、滞在中色んな場面で思い出していました。自然の罠だけで猪狩りをする話を聞き、その晩は居酒屋さんで東京では食べられない猪のタタキを美味しくいただきました！！

I have been interested in mangroves for a while, so I decided to participate in this tour. It was just as I expected, and I was able to see the beautiful nature and mangroves. We could explore at a leisurely pace, and I was also able to see a white heron walking, which was very soothing. On the day of the tour, the wind was strong, and we were only able to go by canoe. The tour guide provided thorough explanations, and although there were times when it was a bit challenging due to the strong wind, they supported us when things didn't go smoothly. We participated as a pair, and along the way, we were able to take photos and videos in the mangroves, which created great memories that we often look back on. Additionally, even when participating by canoe, water came in, so my lower body got quite wet. I felt it was necessary to wear clothes that could get wet, like a swimsuit, and to bring a change of clothes.
以前よりマングローブに興味があり、参加しました。期待通りの大自然、マングローブを見ることができました。ゆっくりと探検することができ、途中シロサギが歩く姿も見ることができ癒されました。当日は風が強く、カヌーのみの案内でした。ツアーガイドさんも丁寧に説明していただきましたし、ツアー中風が強く少し大変な時もありましたが、うまくいかないときはフォローしてくれました。2人で参加したのですが、途中、マングローブの中で写真や動画も撮っていただき、いい思い出になり見返したりしています。また、カヌーで参加の場合でも水が入ってくるので、下半身はけっこう濡れました。水着等濡れていい服で参加の上、着替えも必要と感じました。
