Pick-up at your accommodation (Miyanoura – Anbo area)
*Exact pick-up time will be confirmed by the guide the day before.
*This is a private tour. Selecting "Private guide" from the options is required.
The trail begins from the Arakawa Trailhead, which has separate flush toilets for men and women. After getting ready, the long trek starts along the old rail path.
In summer, the sun begins to rise around departure time.
*The route may be reversed, starting from Shiratani Unsuikyo.
A historical logging village that once housed about 540 residents in 1960.
A bio-toilet is available at Kusugawa Junction. About 10 minutes along the rail path from there stands Sandai Sugi, a rare Yakusugi cedar that has survived through three generations—true to its name. In winter, the sun begins to rise near the end of the rail path.
Pass the mighty Nioh Sugi, resembling a guardian statue. The steep ascent begins here. Be sure to use the last toilet before continuing—no toilets for the next 5 hours (toilet booths available).
After passing Okina Sugi, the second-largest cedar after Jomon Sugi, you’ll reach Wilson Stump. This massive hollow stump is large enough to step inside. A natural spring flows from below, and when you look up, you’ll see a heart-shaped opening above.
A massive 3,000-year-old tree standing 25 meters tall with a 16-meter girth.
Two trees joined around 10 meters above ground, resembling a couple holding hands.
The largest and most famous cedar on Yakushima. Its powerful presence will leave a lasting impression.
Take caution on the return—fatigue can increase the risk of slips. In winter, sunset occurs near the end of the rail path.
In summer, you’ll return to your hotel before sunset.
