Moss-Covered Forest
Shiratani Unsuikyo, a symbolic spot in Yakushima, was visited many times by director Hayao Miyazaki and inspired the forest in the film Princess Mononoke. The ground and tree trunks are completely covered in moss, creating a magical and otherworldly atmosphere.
Taikoiwa Rock
Located deep within Shiratani Unsuikyo, this giant granite rock sits at an altitude of 1,050 meters, about 2.8 km from the trail entrance. On clear days, visitors can enjoy stunning seasonal views, including pink cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green foliage, and the deep greens of cedar trees.

1. What to Bring on the Day
・Please bring the following items in case of sudden illness or injury:
・Health insurance card
・Regular medications (such as pain relievers)
・Prescription medications (including emergency/as-needed medication prescribed by your doctor) - 2. Guests Required to Submit Health Information
If you have any of the following medical histories or symptoms, please be sure to complete the "Yakushima Additional Information Form" provided in the email you receive after booking. - Common Symptoms Requiring Disclosure:
Respiratory / Cardiovascular: Asthma, COPD, heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure
・Allergies / Metabolic: Anaphylaxis, diabetes requiring insulin treatment
・Neurological / Mental Health: Epilepsy, walking or balance disorders, aphasia, dementia, uncontrolled mental illness
・Other: Visual or hearing impairments, dizziness or unsteadiness, severe obesity, or anyone advised by a doctor to restrict exercise - Participants must be between 6 years old (1st grade elementary school students and above) and under 75 years old.

After your booking is confirmed, please apply through the “Rental Application Form” included in the booking confirmation email. - The deadline to submit the rental application form is 11:59 PM, one week prior to the tour date. We cannot prepare any rental items that are not applied for by the deadline or contain incomplete information (such as missing size details). Please arrange any necessary equipment on your own.
Please note that the deadline will not be extended even for last-minute bookings. If you book a tour departing within 6 days of your application date, our rental service will not be available. - ◆ For bookings within 3 days, Yamakara may call to confirm details. If unreachable or if payment and form submission are not confirmed by 15:00 the day before the tour, the reservation will be canceled.

・Rental items must be returned at the Yamakara shop after descending the mountain.
・During transportation to the trailhead, we can store the following items for you:
・Your own shoes to wear after returning the rental gear
・The black “Yahho” bag containing the rental items
・Any luggage you will not take to the mountain
・Please remember to bring these items with you at tour departure. Your guide will collect and assist with returns after the tour. - Please note that itineraries may be changed or shortened at the guide's discretion for safety reasons due to:
-Weather conditions (or sudden changes during the tour)
-Participants' physical condition
As we prioritize safety, no partial or full refunds will be issued for shortened itineraries once the tour (walking) has started. Please understand that this is an outdoor activity subject to nature before booking. - Guests are required to stay overnight on Yakushima Island the day before the tour. Participation on the same day as arrival to Yakushima is not permitted due to the early tour departure time.
- How to Receive Rental Items
・Rental items will be delivered free of charge to your accommodation on Yakushima Island the day before the tour.
After trying on the items, if you wish to change the size, please contact us via the change request form included in the final information email by 7:30 PM.

・Thick socks (please also bring them when trying on rental gear)

・Plastic bags (a few bags for waterproofing belongings or carrying trash, such as ziplock bags)

※Quick-drying, moisture-wicking clothing (synthetic materials) or lightweight merino wool is recommended.

・Daily outpatient benefit: ¥3,000 - The tour will proceed even in the rain. Cancellations or date changes due to weather are considered at the guest’s discretion and will be subject to a cancellation fee.
- If the tour operator decides to cancel the tour due to a heavy rain warning, trail conditions, a state of emergency, or other reasons, no cancellation fee will be charged.
- If you are unable to travel to Yakushima due to flight or ferry cancellations, no cancellation fee will be charged.
