It was a small group of six people. Since we were moving as a group, I had to be a bit mindful of time-consuming adjustments to clothing. The path seemed straightforward enough that we wouldn't get lost, but it was nice to hear about points of interest that we might have overlooked without a guide. I was also happy that our guide took many photos for us.

In the end, we had to descend quickly due to the bus schedule (only on the trolley path), which was a bit tiring, but I think it was good to have someone lead us since missing the bus would have been more difficult.

Since it was nearly a 10-hour trek, I realized that building up physical strength is essential for the Jomon Sugi trekking.

6人の少人数のグループでした。グループでの行動なので、時間のかかる服の調整などは少し気を使いました。
道に迷うことはなさそうな道ではありましたが、ガイドさんなしだったらスルーしてしまいそうな見所も聞きながら行けたのはよかったです。写真もたくさん撮ってくれるガイドさんだったので嬉しかったです。
最後はバスの時間がありかなり速足での下山(トロッコ道のみ)となり少し疲れましたが、バスに乗れない方が大変なのでリードしてもらったのはよかったかなと思います。
10時間近くのトレッキングになるので、縄文杉トレッキングには体力作り必須だとよくわかりました。

I booked three tours with this tour company, and I was grateful for their flexibility in adapting to changing circumstances.

1. Jomon Sugi
2. Shiratani Unsuikyo (Taiko Rock)
3. One-day bus tour

Initially, I had planned to do Shiratani on the last day, but since the weather looked like it was going to turn bad, they changed the schedule with the bus tour! Additionally, if I rented either of the first two, I could use it on both days without any extra charge.

The service was good even at a low price. If you're booking more than two tours, I think it's better to go with the same tour company.

The trekking tour depends on the guide.

⚫️ Jomon Sugi
The guide was very kind and considerate of everyone's pace! They also took time at the photo spots, which made for wonderful memories!!

⚫️ Shiratani Unsuikyo
The guide's service was the worst. While it was nice that they provided warm miso soup for lunch and shared a lot of knowledge, they were impatient and started guiding before everyone arrived, and they didn't allow time for customers to take photos. They took pictures with their own smartphone. At first, I appreciated it, but... the device was old, the images were grainy, and they only took one picture without checking the content! When I asked for another shot, they made a displeased face. Moreover, some pictures had me with my eyes closed, and honestly, it felt like the guide was just satisfying their own needs for photos.

This is not a place you can visit many times in your life. While it may be routine for the guide, participants have trained for months and invested both time and money to join. It's disappointing that the memory photos turned out poorly.

However, I was really glad that Jomon Sugi was not guided by this terrible guide.

こちらのツアー会社で3個のツアーを申し込みましたが、状況変化にも臨機応変に対応頂き、ありがたかったです。

①縄文杉
②白谷雲水峡（太鼓岩）
③1日バスツアー

当初、白谷を最終日にしていましたが、天気が悪くなりそうでしたので、バスツアーと日程を変えてくれました！またレンタルも①②どちらかのレンタルすれば両日追加料金なしで使用させてくれました。

低価格でもサービスは良かったです。
もし2個以上のツアーを申込むなら同じツアー会社のが良いと思います。

トレッキングツアーは、ガイドさんによると思います。

⚫️縄文杉
とても親切でみんなのペースを考えながら案内してくれました！また撮影ポイントでは時間を取ってくれてとても良い思い出になりました！！

⚫️白谷雲水峡
ガイドさんの対応が最悪でした。
ランチに暖かい味噌汁を提供してくれたり、知識が豊富で色んな案内をしてくれるのは良いのですが、せっかちな方で全員が到着する前に案内をはじめたり、お客さんの撮影時間を取ってくれなかったり。ご自身のスマホで撮影します。最初はありがたいと思いましたが…機種が古く画像が粗い＆1枚づつしか撮影せず中身も確認しない！もう1枚撮影して欲しいとお願いしたら嫌な顔をされました。しかも、目を閉じているものもあり、正直ガイドさんの自己満足な撮影です。

一生に何度も行ける場所ではありません。ガイドさんにとっては日常かもしれませんが、参加者は何ヶ月も前からトレッキングのトレーニングをして、お金も時間もかけて参加しています。思い出写真は残念でなりません。

ただ、縄文杉がこの最悪なガイドさんじゃなくて本当に良かったと思いました。

It was my first time in Yakushima. On the first day, I went to Jomon Sugi, and on the second day, I visited Shiratani. Despite the fatigue from the previous day, I was able to take my time and enjoy the scenery.

Compared to Jomon Sugi, Shiratani is easier, but since it is still a hike, I strongly recommend being well-prepared! If you're not confident about reaching Jomon Sugi but want to experience the scenery and air of Yakushima, the Mossy Forest might be a good option. If you feel you can push a little more, you might consider going to Taiko Rock.

This time, due to the timing of my return flight, I couldn't make it to Taiko Rock, but if I have the chance next time, I would like to go to Taiko Bridge.

And I want to mention our guide, Mr. Yamamoto, who is turning 80 this year. He truly loves Yakushima and guided us with such vitality, making the hike very enjoyable! Thank you very much!

初めての屋久島でした。1日目は縄文杉、2日目は白谷に行きました。前日の疲れもある中でしたが、ゆっくりと景色を見ながら行く事が出来ました。
縄文杉と比較すると楽ですが、やはり登山なので準備はしっかりして行かれる事を強くお勧めします！
縄文杉まで行く自信は無いけど、屋久島の景色や空気を味わいたい方は、苔むす森までが良いかもしれません。
もう少し頑張れそう！という方は太鼓岩まで行かれても良いかと思います。
今回は帰りのフライトの時間もあり、太鼓岩へ行くことは出来ませんでしたが、次の機会があれば太鼓橋まで行ってみたいです。

そして今年80歳になられるガイドの山本さん。本当に屋久島が好きで生き生きと案内して下さり、とても楽しく登る事ができました！有難うございました！

縄文杉トレッキングに参加しました。ガイドさんの案内で、すごく勉強になりました。同じグループの方々にも恵まれ、のんびりと楽しく観てまわることができました。ありがとうございました。
屋久島にはその他にも見たいと思える場所が点在していて、とても短期間では無理ですが、次は登山に行きたいと思います。

The pickup was at 4:30 AM, and the entire journey lasted 12 hours (with 10.5 hours of walking). From the guide's talk, I learned that on Yakushima, where rice cannot be grown, people have lived in deep connection with trees since the Edo period. It was nice to walk while feeling the activities of both humans and trees. That said, the round trip on the tramway was quite long!

朝4時半のピックアップで、全行程12時間（歩行10時間半）でした。ガイドさんの話で、コメが取れない屋久島では、江戸時代から木と人々が深く関わりながら生活してきたことが分かり、人間と樹のそれぞれの営みを感じながら歩くのが良かったです。それにしてもトロッコ道の往復は長かったぁ〜

Unfortunately, it was pouring rain on the day of the tour, but the tour company contacted us in advance to let us know that the tour content might change and asked if we still wanted to participate. I appreciated their thorough confirmation.

We agreed to the changes and joined the tour. Although we couldn't visit the mossy forest, we received very detailed explanations about Yakushima's formation, its climatic features, and the plants that grow naturally in Shiratani Unsuikyo. The guide showed us the highlights of Yakushima and Shiratani Unsuikyo that are unique to the rainy weather.

Thanks to the guide's deep knowledge, it turned out to be a very enjoyable experience. I realized that exploring on our own is quite different from walking while listening to various insights from a guide. If we hadn't signed up for the tour, we might have given up on Shiratani Unsuikyo due to the bad weather.

Since there were only the two of us participating because of the heavy rain, the guide took us to a recommended lunch spot and even extended the tour to show us some sightseeing spots, ensuring we made the most of our time. It turned out to be a great trip, and I’m really glad we opted for a guided tour.

当日は残念ながら大雨だったのですが、事前にツアー会社からツアー内容が変更になるかもしれない旨、それでも参加するかどうかの連絡を下さいました。キチンと確認してくださり助かりました。
変更になる旨を了承し、ツアーに参加。
残念ながら苔むす森には行けなかったのですが、屋久島の成り立ちや気候的な特長、白谷雲水峡に自生する植物についてなどとても詳しく説明していただき、雨だからこその屋久島、白谷雲水峡の見どころ、を案内して下さいました。
ガイドさんの深い知識のおかげでとても楽しい体験になりました。
自分たちだけで巡るのと、ガイドさんから色々聞きながら歩くのとはやはり違うなと通観しました。
それにツアーに申し込んでなかったら白谷雲水峡に悪天候の関係で諦めていたかもしれません。
今回、大雨ということもあり参加者が私達だけになっていたので、途中オススメのランチ場所に案内してくださったり、すこし足を伸ばして観光地へ案内してくださったりと、時間いっぱい楽しめるようガイドしてくださり良い旅になりました。
ガイド付きにして本当に良かったです。

At the beginning of October, I participated in a solo trek to Jomon Sugi. There were a total of seven of us, including two couples and two women, and I was the only one without any climbing experience. However, everyone I was with, including the guide, was kind, and although I started to feel pain in my knees during the second half of the ascent, I was finally able to meet the long-awaited Jomon Sugi. On the steep parts of the descent, the guide carried my backpack, and with everyone's encouragement, I was able to make it back. I was so exhausted that I could hardly eat my lunch, but I felt like the delicious spring water helped me along the way. I realized that even if I can walk 10 kilometers on flat ground, I struggle with the ups and downs of the mountains. I'm thinking of going to Shiratani Unsuikyo next, but I suppose I should train myself first.

10月の初めに縄文杉トレッキングに1人で参加しました。
ご夫妻2組女性２人連れと私の計７人で登山経験の無いのは私1人でしたが、同行の皆さんはじめガイドさんも良い方で、登りの後半で膝に痛みが出始めたのですが何とか念願の縄文杉に会う事が出来ました。下りのきつい所ではガイドさんがリュックを持って下さり皆に励まされながら帰り着く事が出来ました。
疲れ切っていてろくにお弁当も食べる事が出来ませんでしたが湧水の美味しさに助けられたように思います。
平地を10キロ歩けても山の登り下りにはついて行けないのがよく分かりました。次は白谷雲水峡にと思っていますが先ずは自分を鍛えてからかなっと思います。

It was a tour of about 10 hours, and I was initially a bit anxious, but thanks to the guide's perfect pacing, I was able to see Jomon Sugi safely!

It was an interesting situation where everyone participating was traveling solo, and as we went along, our conversations gradually became more lively, which made it very enjoyable.

約10時間のツアーということで、最初は不安もありましたがガイドさんの絶妙なペース配分により無事縄文杉を見ることができました！

一緒に参加した皆様が全員一人旅という面白い状況で、道中徐々に会話も弾むようになりとても楽しかったです。

行くと決めてよかったなと心から思える体験となりました。

The day I participated in the experience, it was pouring rain, and we ended up soaking wet while trekking. We focused on reaching the summit while listening to the guide. Due to my usual lack of exercise and the rain, there were moments when I felt discouraged, but thanks to everyone on the tour, I was able to enjoy the descent.

体験に参加した日は、大雨で、びしょびしょになりながらのトレッキングとなりました。ガイドを聞きながら、ひたすら頂上を目指しました。普段の運動不足と雨もあいまり、嫌になったりもしましたが、ツアーのみなさんがいたので楽しく下山までできました。

Initially, I planned to walk to Jomon Sugi alone, but considering the convenience of transportation, I decided to join a tour. I was guided by a person named Mitsuhashi, who was very attentive when it came to taking photos, making sure to consider angles and positions, resulting in great pictures. Even when I felt something was off while taking my own photos, he would quickly step in and take them for me. I was also surprised by his wide-ranging knowledge about Jomon Sugi, Japanese history, and even boxing. When he asked if I had a favorite boxer and I mentioned De La Hoya, there was Mitsuhashi posing with De La Hoya in a photo, which was just as impactful as Jomon Sugi itself. I had the feeling that if I said I liked Messi, a photo with Messi would magically appear.

Regarding the trekking, I wanted to have coffee but had given up on the idea since it would be cumbersome to carry. However, during a break, Mitsuhashi surprised us with coffee, which was very delicious.

Jomon Sugi was incredibly large and impressive, but the journey to get there was what truly made this trip valuable.

　当初1人で縄文杉まで歩こうと思っていましたが、交通の利便性を考えツアーに申し込みました。
ガイドのミツハシさんという方に案内してもらいましたが、写真を撮ってもらう時も角度や位置まで気を使ってくださりいい写真ばかり残っています。
自分で写真を撮っている時もなんか違うと感じたらすかさず代わりに撮ってくれる方でした。また、縄文杉、日本史、ボクシングまで幅広い知識でびっくりしました。好きなボクサーがいるか聞かれて、デラホーヤと言ったらデラホーヤと写真に収まるミツハシの姿があり、何者なんだろうと縄文杉と同じくらいインパクトがありました。もしメッシが好きだと言えばメッシとの写真が出てきそうな雰囲気でした。
　トレッキングについては、コーヒーを飲みたかったのですが、荷物になるので断念していたところ休憩中にミツハシさんからコーヒーが出てきました。
とても美味しかったです。
　縄文杉はとても大きく感動しましたが、縄文杉まで歩く過程に価値がある旅となりました。

I participated with a friend in mid-October. There were a total of seven of us, and I think the age and fitness levels were well-matched, which made for a good group.

I was worried because it rained the day before, but it turned out to be a beautiful day for hiking. The cool breeze felt great on my sweaty body during the climb. We chose a great time to go; if it had been hot, I might have had to give up.

I thought the ground would be muddy from the rain, but it hardly affected us at all. Since the island is made of granite, the rainwater flows away quickly.

The guide's pacing was perfect, and I was able to walk without getting bored while listening to stories about Yakushima's history and plants. The photos taken were also great and made for nice memories.

I rented hiking clothes and gear, but I strongly recommend renting trekking poles! Some say they can be a nuisance if you're not used to them, but they were incredibly useful on the mountain trails, both going up and down. Having poles on steep slopes definitely gives you peace of mind.

There were tough spots during the steep climbs, but once I got past them, all I remember is the fun. It was a great experience.

10月中旬に友人と参加しました。他のグループと合わせ総勢７人でしたが年代も体力も近く、良い構成だったと思います。
前日が雨のため心配していましたが、晴れて絶好の登山日和でした。涼しい風が登山で汗ばんだ体に心地よかったです。いい時期を選びました。暑い時期ならリタイヤしていたかもしれません。
雨で地面がぬかるんでいるかと思いきや、ほとんど影響がありませんでした。花崗岩で出来ている島なので、雨水はすぐ流れてしまうんだそうです。
ガイドさんのペース配分がバッチリで、屋久島の歴史や植物のお話を聞きながら飽きずに歩けました。お写真も上手で記念になりました。
登山ウェア・グッズをレンタルしましたが、ストックのレンタルを強くおすすめします！使い慣れてないと邪魔という話もありますが、山道では登りでも下りでも重宝しました。急な斜面ではストックがあった方が絶対に安心です。
急な登りで辛い箇所もありましたが、喉元過ぎれば楽しさしか覚えていません。良い経験になりました。

It's very tiring to hike on the mountain path for over 10 hours starting at 6 AM, but it's definitely worth it. The Jomon Sugi is overwhelming in size even from a distance. If you're concerned about your physical fitness, it might be better to avoid it, but the guides will do their best to support you. Even if you can't reach the Jomon Sugi, there are still highlights along the way, such as Yakusugi trees that are over 1,000 years old and streams that look like they came out of a Studio Ghibli movie.

朝6時から10時間以上かけての山道で、とっても疲れますが、行く価値は十分あります。
縄文杉は遠くからでもその大きさに圧倒されます。
体力に不安のある方は、避けた方がいいかもしれませんが、ガイドさんもできるかぎりサポートしてくださりますし、縄文杉に到達できなくても、途中には樹齢1000年を超える屋久杉や、ジブリの映画で出てくるような沢など、見所はあります。

I am a man in my mid-30s, participating alone. The other members were likely around the same age, consisting of a pair of women and a group of three women, making a total of seven people including our guide. I decided to join because I wanted to become mentally stronger and have new experiences, but I usually only walk for long periods occasionally and have zero experience in mountain climbing. I also have no sports experience and weigh over 10 kg more than the standard weight, so I was quite anxious about whether I could complete the trek. However, thanks to our guide Watanabe, who managed the pace well and shared information about Yakushima and the Yakusugi trees along the way, the rhythm didn't become monotonous, and I was able to finish without falling behind.

Initially, I considered participating with another company for a private tour, but in the end, I was glad I didn't. Having other members made me feel like I didn't want to be a burden, which motivated me to push myself even more, and the encouragement from the members was more powerful than I had imagined. (Physically, I was really pushing my limits.)

In any case, being able to complete the trek was the best experience for me and has become a valuable part of my life moving forward.

私、30代半ばの男。1人参加。他のメンバーはおそらく私と同年代くらいの女性2人組、女性3人組で、ガイドさん併せて7人でのトレッキングでした。
精神的に強くなりたいのと、新しい経験をしたいとの思いで参加することにしましたが、普段は長時間のウォーキングをたまにするくらいで、登山の経験はゼロ。スポーツの経験もなし。標準体重より10kg以上多い体型の為、完走できるかかなり不安でした。しかしガイドのワタナベさんがペース配分をしっかりと管理してくれたこと、途中途中で屋久島や屋久杉のことについてお話ししてくれてリズムが単調にならなかったおかげで、なんとか遅れなくみんなで完走することができました。
当初、他社の貸切での参加も検討しましたが、結果的にそうしなくてよかったと思いました。他のメンバーがいることで、迷惑をかけてはいけないという気持ちで余計に頑張れましたし、メンバーからの励ましの言葉が想像以上に力になりました。
（体力的、肉体的にはかなりギリギリでしたが）

とにかく、完走できたことは自分にとって最高の経験であり、今後の人生の糧になりました。

I participated in a Jomon Sugi trekking tour in mid-October. It rained a little in the morning, but it was mostly sunny, and by the time we reached Jomon Sugi, the sunlight was shining through, creating a very mystical atmosphere. Our guide was a veteran who has led over 2,000 tours to Jomon Sugi. We were a group of three, six people in total.
As we walked, we confirmed everyone’s abilities,
and no one complained, completing the trek.

I was able to enjoy the Shiratani Unsuikyo by experiencing the plants of Yakushima from the car, engaging all my senses and knowledge. The guide was also interesting, and we had a great time together with the couple who participated with us. I would love to join again if the opportunity arises.

移動中の車の中から屋久島の植物にふれ、目から耳から五感全部はもちろん知識で白谷雲水峡を満喫することが出来ました。ガイドさんもおもしろい方で一緒に参加していたご夫妻の方とみんなで楽しくまわれました。また機会があればお願いしたいです。

I was worried about my footing due to the rain, but I was able to reach Taiko Rock without any injuries, just some muscle soreness. I learned a lot along the way and had a great time!

During my trip to Yakushima, which usually has about 80% rain, we were fortunate to have almost no rain and enjoyed good weather. Thank you. Although my body is still fatigued, I think it would have been much tougher if it had rained.

約8割雨の屋久島で、今回の旅行ではほとんど雨が降らず天候に恵まれました。ありがとうございました。身体の疲労はまだ回復してませんが、雨だったらもっと大変だったと思います。

Although we applied as a team of two, we actually participated in a 10-hour trek with a team of seven plus a guide. The team was mostly in their twenties, and we had great conversations. The guide provided explanations and engaged in casual talks that made for a very enjoyable time. We also had dedicated time to take photos, which helped us create lasting memories! We learned about mountain rules, the history of Yakushima, and knowledge about Yakusugi, making it a very satisfying experience. I would love to come back to Yakushima to see Jomon Sugi again. チームは20代ばかりで話も合い、ガイドさんもそれに合わせた説明や、雑談を行なってくださりとても楽しい時間を過ごさせてもらいました。

The combination of the trolley path and mountain trail was a challenging 22 kilometers for someone like me who doesn't usually exercise. However, thanks to the appropriate breaks, photo opportunities, and explanations provided, I was able to keep going without giving up. As it was my first solo trip, I had many anxieties, but I was able to create plenty of memories thanks to the guide, who was like a dad at a sports day, capturing the best shots at each spot!

トロッコ道と山道あわせて22キロと、普段運動をしない身には過酷なコースでしたが、適度に休憩や写真撮影、説明を入れていただいたおかげで、根を上げることなく進めました。初めての1人旅で不安なことも多くありましたが、スポットごとでベストショット撮影いただいたおかげで思い出もたくさん残せました、運動会の時のお父さんみたいなガイドさんで素敵でした！

Overall, I felt the quality of the guide was low.

- Communication
The guide was more like a pace-setter walking ahead rather than a true guide. They provided explanations at key points, but the content was very superficial. It would have been better to walk alone and read the informational signs. I asked the guide several times about plants and nature, but they mumbled and evaded my questions. They were probably not a professional guide, but rather a seasonal worker for the summer.

- Photography
At the photo spots, the guide took commemorative photos with their smartphone. As a result, there was no time to take pictures with my own camera. This was likely to save time. At first, I thought it was convenient, but I was surprised when I received the photos on the way back. They were taken with an iPhone's portrait mode, and the important Yakusugi and Jomon Sugi were out of focus (laughs). I couldn't help but laugh. While it makes for a funny story, as mentioned earlier, I couldn't take any photos with my own smartphone. I should have at least taken pictures of my companions. The memories consist of countless blurry photos of Yakusugi (laughs). By the way, the composition of the photos was also disastrous. If you're mainly going for photography, I wouldn't recommend this tour.

- Overall Tour Guide Experience
It’s not that the guide I had was particularly bad. I encountered about ten guides, and all of them had strong personalities. There were various types, including an aggressive older man who pressured the tour participants and another older man who only spoke to young women. To be honest, considering personality, our guide who didn’t talk much seemed better. I want you to understand that it was that bad.

- Issues with the Tour
The tour participants all took the same bus to the trailhead, which had nearly 60 people on board. It’s easy to imagine what happens when they all start at the same time. Most guides maintain the same pace, so it becomes crowded no matter where you go. You can’t relax at the photo spots, and despite being in Yakushima, the situation is perpetually crowded. If that’s the case, it would be better to go alone to enjoy the true essence of Yakushima.

- In Summary
Be cautious when booking a guide. The website states "guide required," but that’s to be expected since the site is run by those involved in guiding. If you have about six hours of hiking experience, I think it’s fine to go alone. The trails are well-maintained and quite easy to navigate. I believe beginners should hire a guide. They did a great job managing the pace and successfully took all participants to Jomon Sugi. However, you shouldn’t expect more than that.

I don’t understand why this tour has such high ratings.

総じてガイドの質が低く感じた。
・コミュニケーション面
ガイドというよりは、先頭を歩いてくれるペースメーカー。要所要所で説明を挟んでくれるが内容があまりにも薄い。これなら1人で歩いて説明の看板を見た方がいい。植物や自然についてガイドに何度か質問したが、ごにょごにょ話して濁された。おそらく専門のガイドではなく夏だけのバイトなのだろ。

・写真撮影
撮影ポイントでは、ガイドさんのスマホで記念撮影をしてくれる。それゆえに自分のカメラで撮影する時間は無い。おそらく時間短縮なのだろう。最初は便利だと思ったが、撮影された写真を帰り際もらって驚いた。iPhoneのポートレートで写真撮影されていた。肝心の屋久杉や縄文杉がぼけているのである(笑)。さすがに笑ってしまった。笑い話にはなるが、先述したとおり自分のスマホでは撮れていない。これなら同行者の写真だけでも撮っておけばよかった。思い出の写真は、無数のボケた屋久杉の写真だった(笑)
ちなみに写真の構図も致命的だった。写真撮影メインで行くのならツアーはおすすめしない。

・ツアーガイド全体
私のあたったガイドがとくにハズレだったかというとそうでは無い。ガイド10人くらいと遭遇したが、全員癖が強い。オラオラ系でツアー客に圧をかけるおじさんや、若い女性にだけ話しかけるおじさんなど様々だった。正直なところ、性格面で見ればとくに話さない我々のガイドの方がマシに思えた。それくらい酷いということは承知して欲しい。

・ツアーによる弊害
ツアー参加者は同じバスで登山口まで行くわけだか、このバスには60人近くが登場している。これが同時にスタートするとどうなるかは容易に想像がつく。だいたいどのガイドも同じペースなのでどこに行っても人だらけになるのだ。撮影ポイントでもゆっくりできず、せっかくの屋久島なのに人だらけな状況が永遠に続く。これだったら単独で行った方が屋久島らしさを楽しめる。

・総じて
ガイドの申し込みは慎重に。サイトを見ると「ガイド必須」と書いてあるが、そのサイトの運営はだいたいガイド関係者なのだから当たり前だ。往復6時間程度の登山経験者だったら単独でいっても構わないと思う。登山道も整備されており相当登りやすかった。登山未経験者はガイドをつけるべきだと思う。ペース配分はさすがで、参加者全員を縄文杉まで連れて行っていたのは流石と言える。ただ、それ以上を期待してはいけない。


なんでこんなに評価が高いのか分からないツアーだった

It was amazing!
My group consisted of six people in their 20s and 30s, plus our guide.
The guide was friendly and checked in on our condition regularly.
Since it was a younger group, the walking pace was fast and it was tough, but it felt like they adjusted appropriately for each group.
In exchange, they allowed us some time at the end to dip our feet in the river as a form of icing! I really felt the difference in my legs afterward. (I wished I could have soaked up to my thighs... Walking dries you out, so I thought it might have been better to wet my sports tights by going into the river...)
The return bus time was fixed, so if we missed it, we would be left behind, but the guide planned everything well, and we made it back just in time at 16:45.
On this day (September 19), there were fewer people, which allowed us to spend more time at key spots and take fun photos!
Snacks are essential (I mostly ate on the way there. I didn't take much on the way back since I had a bento in my stomach!). Even if it's sunny, the area around Jomon Sugi can be windy and cold, which feels refreshing for a hot body, but it gets really cold during lunch, so rain gear is a must!
Quick-drying T-shirts are essential! The 6:00 departure this time was fine without a headlamp as it got bright enough. According to the guide, it's right on the edge of needing one or not.
You can fill your water bottle at more than five places (including the river), so if you bring a 500ml bottle of water and a 500ml sports drink, you can keep refilling as long as you don't mind the river water!
I drank over 2 liters during this hike (in September). There were only two proper toilets, but it was fine since I was sweating it out. There is also a portable toilet near Jomon Sugi, so having one portable toilet is a good idea.
The two toilets had toilet paper.
I thought about bringing work gloves, but there weren't many trees or rocks that would hurt my hands, so I managed without them (as long as you don't slip!).
There were wooden benches and stones at key rest spots where we could take a break. Unless it rains heavily, you might not need an umbrella or leisure sheet since you'll be covered by trees and leaves, but a folding umbrella is essential! Mountain weather can change suddenly!
Trekking poles are a must for those who aren't confident in their stamina! I borrowed one from the guide.

There might be a lot I haven't written about...
Let's try to keep our backpacks light and avoid bringing unnecessary items!

私のグループは20代から30代の6人+ガイドさん
ガイドさんがフレンドリーで体調も都度確認してくれました。
若めなグループだったせいか、歩くスピードが早くて大変でしたが、多分グループ毎に適切な対応を取ってくれている感じでした。
そのかわりアイシングがわりに川に足を入る時間を最後取ってくれたりしてくれました！後日、足の具合が全然違うのを実感してます。(太腿まで浸かりたかった...歩いていると乾燥するからスポーツタイツ濡らしても川にはいれば良かったかも...と後日)
帰りのバスの時間が決定しているので乗れなければ置いて行かれるので時間厳守ガイドさんがちゃんと予定を組んでいただき16:45ギリギリで帰って来れました。
今回(9/19)は人が少なかったお陰で要所滞在時間が取れて楽しく写真を撮れました！
行動食(私はほとんど行きで食べました。帰りはお弁当がお腹にあるのであまり取らなかった！)必須、晴れててもこの日の縄文杉付近は風が寒く熱った体には涼しいですが、お弁当中はすごく寒くなってしまうのでレインウェア必須！
速乾性のTシャツ必須！今回の6:00出発はヘッドライトなしで明るくなり大丈夫でした！ガイドさんが言うには丁度いるかいらないかの境目らしい。
水は五箇所以上(川を含め)でペットボトルに入れれるので、水ペット500㎖以上、スポーツドリンク500㎖合計2本ほど持っていけば川の水が気にならなければ、ずっと足して行けます！
私はこの登山中2ℓ以上は飲みました(9月で)。トイレは2ヶ所(ちゃんとした)しかなかったですが、汗で出て行って大丈夫でしたが、縄文杉付近で携帯用トイレを使えるトイレもあります。なので携帯用トイレ1つはあると良いです。
トイレ2ヶ所はトイレットペーパーあります。
軍手もと思ってましたが手を傷つけるような木や岩はあまりなく、素手で行けました(足を滑らせないことが前提で！)
要所で休憩スポット木のベンチや石があり休めました。大雨が降らない限り木と葉っぱで覆われて傘やレジャーシートはいらないかも、でも折りたたみ傘は必須！山の天気は急変します！
トレッキングポール、体力に自信がない人必須ですよー！私はガイドさんの借りていまいました。

書けてないことが色々ありそうですが...
なるべくいらない物は持って行かないようにリュックは軽く行きましょう！

I had a great experience on my first mountain climb, challenging myself for 10 hours! It was a wonderful experience, possibly the first and last of its kind in my life! Haha. The guide was also a kind person, which was nice. Thank you!

We left the hotel at 4 AM, and the rain stopped partway, allowing us to see the beautiful stars in the night sky. Arriving at the Arakawa trailhead while it was still dark, we had our breakfast bento and set off before 6 AM. Among the tour participants, I was the oldest. With concerns about my back and knees, I joined the tour prepared to retire if I became a burden.

We proceeded along the long trolley track. The river was clear, and the morning sun was shining down, making it feel wonderful. I was worried about needing a restroom, so I brought a portable toilet, but I didn't end up using it. The guide provided thorough explanations about the restroom situation.

Finally, the steep ascent began. After walking for over two hours, I wondered if my legs could keep up. But I pushed myself to climb, as I had been training for this. After a good climb, the guide said that up to this point was just warm-up, and now the real challenge begins. We were told to push ourselves for three sets of five minutes with breaks in between, and everyone worked hard to keep up. If we could get through this, there would be plenty of sights to see, and the Jomon Sugi awaited us at the finish. We took breaks along the way and finally came face to face with the impressive Jomon Sugi! We admired it from various angles and took many photos.

Due to the guide's decision, we headed straight to Jomon Sugi without having lunch, allowing us to meet it when there were fewer people around. On the way back, we had our bento at a water source and enjoyed warm drinks. The guide took as many photos as we wanted and provided excellent explanations about Jomon Sugi, Yakusugi, and the formation of Yakushima. By the time we returned along the trolley track, it started pouring rain, but that too became a good memory. Thank you for the amazing experience. Thanks to everyone on the tour as well. I would love to visit Yakushima again and participate in another tour.

One thing… I was supposed to receive detailed departure time information the day before, but when it didn't come by night, I contacted them after 8 PM. Even while having dinner at the hotel and after my bath, I waited for the call, but I was informed of the departure time without any apology. That left me feeling disappointed.

朝４時ホテル出発、途中から雨が止んで、夜空の星がキレイに見えました。まだ暗い中、荒川登山口に到着。朝食のお弁当を食べ６時前に出発。ツアーの中では私が最年長。腰と膝に不安を抱えながら、迷惑をかけるようなら、リタイアも覚悟で参加しました。
長く続くトロッコ軌道を進みます。川が済んでいて朝日が降り注ぎとても気持ちがいいです。トイレも不安で携帯トイレを持って行きましたが使いませんでした。ガイドさんがトイレ事情もキチンと説明してくれます。
いよいよ急な上りが始まります。２時間強歩いた後に足が着いていくのか？でも根性で登ります。その為に筋トレを頑張ってきたのですから。いい登りだったなぁと思った後、ガイドさんから、ここまでは準備体操、ここからが本番です。５分×３セット、休みを入れるので５分は頑張って着いてくるよう言われ、皆必死になって頑張りました。ここさえ乗り切れば、後は見所もたくさんありますし、ゴールには縄文杉が待っています。所々で休憩を挟んで、感動の縄文杉にご対面！あらゆる角度から眺め、写真もたくさん撮って頂きました。
ガイドさんの判断で、昼食を取らずに縄文杉まで向かったので、人気が少ない内に縄文杉に会えました。帰りに水場があるところでお弁当を食べ、暖かい飲み物もご馳走になりました。写真を気が済むまで撮って下さり、縄文杉、屋久杉の説明から屋久島の成り立ち等々ガイドの内容も素晴らしかったです。帰りのトロッコ軌道の頃にはどしゃ降りの雨となってしまいましたが、それもいい思い出です。最高の経験をありがとうございました。ツアーの皆さまもありがとうございました。また屋久島に行ってツアーに参加したいです。
一つだけ…前日に詳しい出発時間の連絡が来る事になっていましたが、夜になっても来ないので、20時過ぎにこちらから連絡しました。ホテルでの食事中もお風呂の後も連絡を待っていたのに、詫びる事もなく出発時間を告げられました。それだけは残念な気持ちです。

The day before, we visited Jomon Sugi, and our guide made sure to engage us in enjoyable conversations to lift our tired spirits. The moss-covered forest we explored in the afternoon was stunning, especially with the beautiful play of light—it was truly moving. (We also visited the hot springs that appear during low tide at the time you advised us. It felt like it relieved the fatigue in my legs. How wonderful!)

前日　縄文杉に行き　体お疲れモードの私たちを　楽しく　お話も前日から広がるように　いろいろしてくださいました。
午後からの半日でついた　苔むす森は光の加減も素晴らしく　感動ものでした。
（教えていただいた　干潮の時間に干潮時に出てくる温泉にも行きました。足の疲れが取れた気がしました。不思議　！）

It took about four and a half hours to climb from the trailhead, and I finally reached the Jomon Sugi. Meeting the world's oldest Yakusugi was truly moving!

The guide was very kind, and we took some great photos at the scenic spots! They captured some wonderful angles for us!

During lunch, the guide treated us to miso soup, which was a great way to replenish the salt after sweating so much. This is definitely an experience worth having at least once in a lifetime!

登山口から登ること、約4時間半。目的の縄文杉にたどり着きました。世界最古の屋久杉とご対面でき、感慨ひとしおです！

ガイドの方がとても親切で、写真スポットでパシャリ！　いいアングルでとっていただきました！

昼食時には、ガイドさんよりお味噌汁をごちそうになり、汗だくの身体にいい塩分補給になりました。
一生に一度は、体験したいですね～‼

The weather was favorable, and I didn't have to wear rain gear even once. There were wooden bridges and stairs without handrails, so it's best to have proper equipment like hiking boots. Also, since you need to grab onto things while climbing, gloves are necessary.

There are many guides available, but I think they group participants based on their age and climbing experience. Since there were many older participants, we were able to climb at a slow pace, and everyone was able to make the round trip to Jomon Sugi without dropping out. Along the way, we took a lot of photos, and we got some great family pictures. Thank you very much.

お天気にも恵まれて､一度もレインウェアを着ることなかったです。手すりのない木の橋や階段があり､登山靴など装備はしっかりした方がいいです。また､掴めるものは掴んで登るのでグローブは必要です。
ガイドさんはたくさんおられますが、そのグループの参加者の年齢や登山経験など考えて､グループ分けされてガイドさんがつかれるのだと思います。年齢高めの人が多かったので、ゆっくりペースで登ってもらえたので、脱落することなく全員縄文杉まで往復できました。途中､たくさん写真も撮ってもらいました。良い家族写真が撮れました。ありがとうございました。

I had no mountain climbing experience and was anxious about participating alone, but the guide managed the pace and breaks appropriately, sharing stories about the plants and history along the way, which made the trekking enjoyable! Even as a solo participant, I bonded with others in the group while walking and chatting, and by the end, we became close enough to take a commemorative photo together! When I finally faced Jomon Sugi after walking for nearly five hours, I was moved as I reflected on its long history! The scenery along the way was beautiful, with the clear flow of the river, moss-covered trees, dripping droplets, and the miraculous sight of Yakushima deer; everything was captivating and energized me despite my fatigue. There were parts of the suspension bridge without handrails, which made me a bit anxious as someone with a fear of heights, but overcoming that made me feel a little stronger! At first, I thought the walking pace might be a bit fast, but thanks to that, I was able to take my time for photos with Jomon Sugi, and we had proper breaks, making for a well-paced itinerary! I participated in late August, and the trees were lush, providing plenty of shade, so I didn't have to worry much about sunburn. We could refill our water bottles with natural water from Yakushima several times along the way, which was helpful for wetting towels and staying hydrated. However, since some participants did retire along the way, I think it's best to join in good physical condition. I would like to challenge myself again!

登山経験が無く、1人参加だったため辿り着けるか不安でしたが、ガイドさんが適切にペース配分や休憩をとってくれて、道中で草木や歴史の話もしてもらいつつ、楽しんでトレッキングに参加できました！
1人参加でも同じグループの皆さんと歩きながら話しつつ絆が生まれ、最後には一緒に記念撮影する位仲良くなりました！5時間近く歩いて縄文杉と対面できた時は、長い歴史に思いを馳せて感動しました！！途中に見える景色はどれも美しく、清らかな川の流れ、苔むす木々や滴る雫、奇跡的に会えたヤクシカ、木陰から差す光まで、どれも魅力的で歩き疲れた私を元気づけてくれました。途中の吊り橋は手すりが無い場所もあって、高所恐怖症の私は少しうろたえましたが、それも乗り越えて少し強くなれた気がします！
最初は少し歩くペースが早いかも…と思いましたがおかげで縄文杉とゆっくり写真が撮れましたし、休憩もしっかりとって、メリハリある工程でした！8月下旬の参加でしたが、木々が生い茂り日陰が多く日焼けの心配もあまり無く、途中屋久島の天然水を何度か汲めるので、タオルを濡らしたり水補給が出来た事も助かりました。ただ途中リタイアされた方もいた為、やはり健脚で健康な状態での参加が望ましいかと思います。私ももう一回位チャレンジしたいです！
