This was an amazing experience.

Yes you can drive to the top of the mountain with your own car and view the sunset and save yourself the money ( you still have to pay admission fee). But this tour is not just about the sunset.
Its about seeing the stars mostly.
Yoshi has two freaking telescopes. Not just one. 1 worth around 3k i believe and the other for sure more than 10k.

Also we saw some other tours going up tthe mountain and a lot of cars and it gets really packed at the 10k feet. Yoshi has his secret location thats what he calls it, where actually not a lot of people go there and its at 9k feet. So hw drives up to the 10k feet to see the sunset, and if its packed he goes down the 9k feet. But for the stars is definetely at the 9k feet and its amazing for both. Not a lot of people, there is silence and you can enjoy both experiences.

Also the other tours are just for the sunset most probably. We definetely dis t see anyone else with a telescope. So yeah this experience is unique.

We were able to view multiple stars and he explained everything about the stars, we were able to view the ISS station when it passed through, we were able to see Saturn very closely and yes its like the pictures. You can see the ring around it.
We also saw Jupiter and 4 moons of jupiter and the moon and the craters on tbe moon. All these you cant see with the naked eye.

He provided jackets, chairs, blankets as it gets cold up there, some krispy kreme donughts, hot tea, coffee, and water as well.

So yeah if you just wanna see the sunset you can do it on your own if you wanna save money . But the real experience which is something unique that you cant see abywhere else is the star gazing and you get the sunset as a bonus.

So yeah recommended. And go with this tour because of the telescope.

The view of the sunset from the top of Haleakalā volcano leaves anyone speechless and looking at the stars surrounded by the complete dark and the complete silence is astonishing. Yoshi is the perfect guide: he knows everything about Maui and he is an amazing guest. He bought us donuts, he gave us hot tea and sweets, and he had coats and gloves to face the cold. Visiting Maui is something you can't miss.

It was a once in a lifetime experience. Our tour guide was real friendly and knowledgeable. He showed us a shopping center on our way. He serve crispy krispy cream donuts and tea. Shared his knowledge and showed us Jupiter, the craters of the moon and constellations. The drive up did not take very long. It was freezing during the night so put on layers. Watching the sunset was beautiful.

The submarine was a neat experience to be inside but we didn't see as much sea life as we hoped. Of course that is not controlled by the crew but it was a little disappointing. I think a shallower experience would a shown more beauty. My kids did enjoy the little adventure though.

I booked this tour for myself, my husband, and my six year old son. It was well worth it. Captain Travis and his crew were consistently attentive, well organized, and kind. The snorkeling spot was fantastic as well. The food was GREAT as I was expecting just a wonder bread ham sandwich, a bag of chips, and a can of soda. Highly recommend - esp. just based on the crew alone and nothing else.

富士山クラスの山でしたが、トイレ休憩含め、高度に少しずつ慣らしながら連れて行ってくれたので何の問題もなく山頂まで到着。
雲が厚く、心配しましたがサンセット時にはだいぶ晴れ、幻想的な夕陽を見ることが出来ました。
そして真っ暗になってからはポインターで空を指しながらの解説で正に天然のプラネタリウムでした。
高級な望遠鏡も用意頂き、土星の輪っかや月のクレーターなどもはっきり見ることが出来ました。

Upon arrival, the check in process was smooth. You can take a look at the Banyan Tree or take a quick stroll on Front Street after check in while you wait for the tour to start.

We found the crew to be incredibly friendly and professional. The submarine was clean and well air conditioned. There are no guarantees of what type of sea life will be around but we got lucky with a small shark and ray! Spent lots of time at the shipwreck site :) There are also some pretty amazing photo opportunities as you take the boat to/from the submarine.

Would highly recommend!

We had a great time in the sunset and stargazing tour. The tour operator Yamauchi-San was a very friendly and knowledgeable guide. He promptly picked us up at the scheduled time. He was very engaging with the whole group and provided us with donuts and water at the start of the trip. He ensured that the group got gradually acclimated to the altitude by stopping at couple of places on the way. Once we reached the summit he took us to a place that had a very clear view of the setting sun. Then during the stargazing part of the tour he showed us several stars and star clusters through the telescope and binoculars. Also since it was a full moon we also got a good view of the moon and it’s craters through the telescope. Overall we enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to others.

We had the best tour ever! We ended up being the only two on the tour and it was amazing. He even stopped and got us some donuts. We saw the best sunset and so many stars. Yoshi showed us all the different stars and the milky way on the telescope. He also took plenty of pictures of us and let me just say he is an amazing photographer. Would love to go again.

My family and I had the best experience. From the moment we stepped onto the boat, the crew was very attentive, friendly, and funny. They provided a great overview of the day activities and what we needed. They checked on us frequently and even provided a little history lesson on the nearby islands. We took about 1 hr boat ride over to Lanai. Once at Lanai, it was a 7 minute walk to the beach. The beach was amazing!!! We did some snorkeling, a short nature walk, and had some time to chill at the beach. The BBQ LUNCH was delicious! The boat ride back we enjoyed 2 cocktails and ice cream. The crew exceeded our expectations. I would definitely do this again! I felt like VIP. Book it! You won’t regret it

We took our three boys (ages 8, 6, and 3) on this during our first visit to Maui and overall, really enjoyed ourselves. The host was witty and funny, even if he's likely reusing the same jokes over and over. Understandably, it doesn't appear as colorful as you'd expect because of how the lighting changes things through the windows, but it was a really unique experience. I would say happy we did it once, but wouldn't do it again.

To be honest, the only thing that really disappointed me was knowing that the sunken ship was completely staged for the submarine tours. It didn't feel authentic.

Pros - we got to see a lot of marine life! Sharks included. And the boatride to/from the submarine was really nice and the kids were pretty blown away when the submarine first popped up.

Getting on board with rough surf was so much fun! The awesome crew got each of us on board quickly and safely. The drinks and food were delicious and the crew so personable and attentive. It's called a snorkel tour but that title really falls short of everything involved. We had not one but two dolphin sightings. I'm not saying we saw a couple of them in the far distance. They were swimming right beside us, and there were literally dozens upon dozens of them jumping and spinning above the water. The beach at Lanai is peaceful and exclusive. The team set up games and activities for everyone to enjoy. Yes there's snorkeling but they are not assuming that everyone is into that. You wanna chill on the beach? You wanna play giant Jenga with the fam? You wanna walk up a nature trail? All covered. The short trail up to the cliff side is indescribable. After all of that they feed you a freshly prepared bbq lunch and they make certain that you don't leave hungry. The servers came by a half dozen times to make sure that everyone had enough food. I took the 630am tour in anticipation of afternoon winds because I tend to get motion sickness. I am not a morning person at all but considering the perfect conditions I had no regrets. The crew was attentive, friendly and considerate. I don't eat meat and I avoid gluten. I stupidly forgot to mention that in my booking, but they were still able to accommodate me on the spot with no hassle or judgement. If you've read this far and you still haven't booked, you'll be missing out on one of the best tours the island offers.
