We were all blown away with how well we all enjoyed our day trip. We managed to get some brilliant images of Mt. Fuji. Highly recommended- money well spent

We hoped to see Mt. Fuji, but, unfortunately, it rained the day of our booked tour and Mt. Fuji was not to be seen. But all was not lost. Our driver, Toshi, picked us up promptly at the scheduled time and drove us to the Mt. Fuji area. On the way he gave us information on local sites that we passed. Our guide, Yuko, was very knowledgeable and gave us options for our rainy day. Our driver and guide learned that we liked to hike so we went to a beautiful shrine at the base of Mt. Fuji and hiked on an ancient trail to the first station. A great way to experience Mt. Fuji on a rainy day. Yuko gave much information on local customs and the Shinto religion involving the mountain. We then had a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant. Following this, we chose to go to a museum featuring a world renowned textile artist who made kimono art. These were fabulous. It was then late in the day and we traveled back to Tokyo. A different experience than we hoped for due to the rain, but a memorable and enjoyable day thanks to Toshi and Yuko. We definitely recommend their services for guide and driver for the Mt. Fuji tour. They’re the best!

He explained the history and significance of all the sites. We had a great time. The colors of Red and yellow of the leaves was also picturesque. Ken and Ishi made our day very special. We appreciate their efforts very much and would highly recommend them for their knowledge and professionalism.
Ishi was a most excellent driver in heavy traffic.
Ken answered our questions about the tour sights, as well as many about Japanese culture. He also amused us with a Japanese lesson during the long drive. When weather prevented us from seeing Mt. Fuji, they substituted other sights to compensate. The Hoto restaurant they chose for lunch was also excellent. We could not have had better, more attentive guides.
We give them the highest recommendation.
Dear Patsy,
Thank you very much for your review. We are so glad you enjoyed our tour even in a rainy day. Though we couldn’t blow away clouds from Mt. Fuji with our breath, as you found, the area has many things that attract tourists around the year such as autumn foliage, cherry blossoms, museums, breweries etc. We are looking forward to serving you again.
Best wishes,

It was my first trekking experience as I turned 60. I got used to my trekking shoes and climbed Mount Daimonji, but I felt anxious. The guide appropriately guided me and the entire group while considering everyone's situation, allowing us to conquer both courses. Thank you very much! It was tough, but I am very satisfied. Next time, I want to lose a little more weight and improve my flexibility. I heard that a 92-year-old person completed it... I want to prepare well so I can enjoy it with my grandchild.

My first long trek was a challenge, but I was able to enjoy it while being healed by the beauty of the forest. Since it was my long-awaited trip to Yakushima, it was a very good experience.
However, it's unfortunate that the experience can vary greatly depending on the guide, so I have to give it a ☆-1. The guide on the first day seemed very friendly when I spoke to him on the phone, but once we started walking, he didn't pay much attention to those behind him. We only took a proper break to sit down twice on the way to Jomon Sugi (once quite early on and once for a restroom break). Other guides seemed to stop and explain various things, but we were just passed by.
He mentioned that we would take photos on the way back, so I thought the explanations would happen then, but in the end, we didn't take time for either. Despite some people lagging behind and looking tired, there was hardly any advice given, and instead of caring for us, it felt like we were being rushed. As a beginner in trekking, I was unsure of what to do since I had requested a guide.
The guide on the second day was completely different; he provided a lot of explanations about the plants and advice on how to walk, which gave me a great sense of security. He also took many photos for us.
Of course, it's natural for each guide to have their own characteristics, and there must be a pace to maintain for completing the trek, so I understand that to some extent. However, I would have appreciated at least some explanations while moving without stopping. Since we can't choose our guides, I won't mention any names, but after reading other people's experiences, it seems like many had similar experiences with the same guide, so I guess it's just a matter of luck when signing up.

I participated with three friends from university. The weather was great both days, making it perfect for trekking.
On the first day’s trek to Jomon Sugi, after passing the long trolley path, I unfortunately cramped my left leg during the steep ascent, and I wondered if I would make it to Jomon Sugi. However, the guide provided me with a herbal remedy that is good for cramps, and somehow I managed to reach Jomon Sugi and return within the time limit! I am truly grateful. Also, the instant miso soup during lunch was warm and soothing for my tired body from the hike.
I really felt it was a good decision to join a guided tour. On the second day at Taiko Rock, I wondered if I could go due to the fatigue from the previous day, but after a good night’s sleep, I felt much better. It was certainly challenging, but I managed to complete the itinerary. I’m really glad I participated!

I joined this tour because I wanted to see the world of Princess Mononoke. Personally, I preferred the path to Shiratani Unsuikyo over the journey to Jomon Sugi. The guide was kind and very helpful, which I appreciated. However, I wish I could have heard a bit more about Yakushima. Thanks to the rain the day before, the moss was beautifully wet. Since there were other participants, I actually wanted to stay longer and take in the forest, but it was a shame that I couldn't stay that long. We went to Taiko Rock, and luckily the view that day was very good. Overall, I was satisfied with this tour. If you want to take more photos and have a more leisurely trip, I think a private guide would be better.

There was some mist, which created a fantastic atmosphere. I couldn't see Taiko Rock because it was dangerous due to the slippery conditions from the rain. The guides I passed all said, "It's tough!" and I really started to worry if I could make it to the end, but I pushed through. My knees, back, and hips are all sore, and I don't even know how to care for them. It might not be suitable for those who want to take photos slowly.

I participated with two friends. The weather forecast was wrong, and it poured rain from the morning without stopping, so we couldn't go to Taiko Rock due to safety concerns, and I have almost no photos from Shiratani Unsuikyo. However, I don't think I'll ever walk on such a dark, rainy mountain path again, so it was a good experience.
I'm a notorious rain person, but our guide, Mr. Shimozono from the roadside station, made it fun by joking around, and we walked for nearly 12 hours happily. Mr. Shimozono is a native of Yakushima and has witnessed the changes on the island, so it was enjoyable to ask him questions and hear his stories.
For lunch, he even boiled water and served us miso soup! Even after the rain stopped, it was still foggy and cold, so it really warmed us up. Mr. Shimozono walked without wearing rain gear and just held an umbrella, yet he didn't get wet at all, and hardly got caught on branches... it was amazing!
I highly recommend walking for 12 hours with Mr. Shimozono!

Due to physical limitations, my parents can no longer walk far without balance or pain problems, so we needed personal transportation to take us around at our own pace. Based on a very sour experience in Tokyo in all aspects of customer service & complete disrespect/unprofessionalism/lack of manners+courtesy w/respect to accessible needs (yes, I was taken aback but city freneticism & savageness has taken over the city & it's not good!), we had zero expectations when we arrived in Kyoto.
BUT....what we got was a complete 5 star experience from Yuka. Not only did she communicate in perfect English (no where to be found in our "top" hotels in Tokyo that cost an arm+leg), she planned the trip around all my parents' needs with much care & thoughtfulness, went above & beyond her duty to help w/pushing the wheelchair & always attentive to shield my parents' from the pouring rain with her umbrella, staying a bit over allotted time to allow my parents to slowly finish their meals w/o rush, all the time being the most pleasant & entertaining host & safe driver! Mind you, she is not certified as a tour guide (she has the driver's license) and yet she puts both of the other licensed Tokyo tour guides to shame. She single-handedly salvaged this 9-day trip from being a complete rotten disaster! She was so amazing that my dad considered adopting her on the spot! Anyway, thank you Yuka - you have no idea what good you have done. I wish you only the best returns & if we ever come back, we will request you & only you! Please take care of yourself until then <3

On the day after Tokyo's massive typhoon and large earthquake, Ken Takahashi met us at the Yokohama port to provide the day tour in Tokyo we had reserved, originally planned the day earlier. Ken took us to all the places we wanted to see, with a few of them off the regular tourist path, with Tuck, our driver. We were so pleased to see the usual places tourists want to see, as well as take us to a bamboo forest. My wife also wanted to find an artisanal fan, and Ken found an excellent shop with wide choices with a 5th generation owner, and he helped her purchase one with a stand. Ken also took us to a tea ceremony, and then a tempura lunch, the best tempura we've ever eaten. He has an excellent knowledge of history and of the city, and with his experience, and our interests, he curated an active and meaningful 8-hour day. After the day, he created an edited video of our day (taken with his Go-Pro camera) and promptly sent it to us along with a journal of the day. One of the things we found most thoughtful was the coordination of Tuck's dropping us off close to the places we wanted to see, and then magically Tuck picked us up at a very close location, to maximize our valuable time that day. Wonderful day with Ken, and proactive communication with Veltra (Taiji) when we all realized that the typhoon was going to hit Tokyo on exactly the day we had planned our tour. We were so grateful that our tour could be pushed back one day.
Dear Ron, Thank you very much for your review. We are so glad to know you and your wife enjoyed the tour.
As you experienced, we always try to meet your request whenever possible. The bamboo forest in Yokohama you visited is not known so well even among local people. We also glad you enjoyed the tea ceremony session as an optional choice where you actually prepared Maccha (the powdered green tea) by yourselves and served it to your partners. Your smiles made us happy. Once again, thank you very much for giving us an opportunity to serve you. Please come again!
Cheers, Ken

On the return trip along the trolley path, I also encountered Yakushima monkeys and Yakushima deer, creating wonderful memories. The recommended sightseeing spots introduced by the guide for the following day were also excellent, and I thoroughly enjoyed the great nature of Yakushima for the second time in two years.

I wanted to visit not only the Shiratani Unsuikyo, which is said to be the setting for Princess Mononoke, and the moss-covered forest, but also Taiko Rock! I searched for various tours and ended up booking this one, which takes you to Taiko Rock at a reasonable price. The guide was a seasoned veteran with extensive knowledge, sharing enjoyable and thought-provoking stories about life. They also shared various snacks and garlic, which gave us a boost of energy—thank you! This tour offers an early morning option, and we chose that. There were few climbers, allowing us to take our time and enjoy taking photos on our way to Taiko Rock. The moss-covered forest was mystical, and the morning light created a fantastical atmosphere that was captivating. And then, Taiko Rock! There were steep slopes along the way, and combined with the muscle soreness from the previous day, it was tough, but reaching the top was breathtaking! According to the guide, the views are better in the early morning. Indeed, the early bird catches the worm!
Dear Harebare,
Thank you very much for your post about your experience. The Jomon Sugi course is also known as the "Training Course" or "Torture Sugi Course," while the Shiratani Unsuikyo is referred to as the "Healing Course." Some customers turn back at the moss-covered forest, but in recent years, the course leading to Taiko Rock and the early morning course have been gaining popularity. There are not many other climbers, and the air is clear, allowing for breathtaking views from Taiko Rock (weather permitting).
This time you participated in the autumn, but in spring, the mountain cherry blossoms make the mountainsides appear pink, and in winter, the mountain ridges are covered in white snow, resembling the Alps.
We sincerely look forward to your next visit to Yakushima.

Of course, Jomon Sugi was amazing, but even the scenery along the way was wonderful. I walked at quite a pace, and although my stay was short, I think it's great for those who want to see a lot in a limited time. However, it can be quite tiring. I don't think it's suitable for those who want to take their time, but since I wanted to be efficient, I thought it was a good tour.
Dear Traveler A,
Thank you very much for your post about your experience.
Based on our own survey results, most customers visiting Yakushima typically have a travel itinerary of two nights and three days, with the first and last days being travel days. This means that the only day available for trekking is the middle day. We created this tour for customers who want to visit both Jomon Sugi and Shiratani Unsuikyo.
Honestly, it can be tough to do both, but the sense of achievement when you complete the trek must have been incredible. Additionally, Yakushima has many other wonderful mountains, so we sincerely look forward to your second visit to the island.

The past five years have been the toughest both mentally and physically.
However, I experienced a lot of inspiration and deepened bonds with my friends.
If you're Japanese, I highly recommend climbing Mount Fuji and trekking in Yakushima!
Absolutely recommended! ^_^

Dear Haruki,
Thank you very much for your post about your experience. I believe it must have been quite challenging since three out of the four participants were beginners in climbing, but I hope it has become a wonderful memory for you all.
Next time, please come to Taiko Rock in Shiratani Unsuikyo when the mountain cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

I was picked up at Kyoto Station and requested a tour of Nara. They made it a flexible and free travel experience. Additionally, the driver-guide speaks English, so I always ask for them when I have foreign customers.

I participated with a friend. It was a clear day in late August, and the temperature was high. Besides us, there was only one young student couple around 20 years old, making it a small group.
We gathered before dawn and entered the mountains from Shiratani Unsuikyo, then after seeing Taiko Rock, we headed to the Jomon Sugi course, which required over 12 hours of hiking.
As a 30-year-old office worker who doesn't exercise much, it was quite tough, but I managed to keep up with the group and completed the hike. The limited time for the return bus made the descent particularly challenging as we had to move quickly. The next day, as expected, I was hit with severe muscle pain, which made the innkeeper laugh out loud.
Our guide was a man over 70, and it was impressive how smoothly he climbed. He was a bit quiet and didn't provide many explanations, but his experience was evident, and I felt secure following him.
There were moments when the rain intensified (which I believe is normal for Yakushima hiking), but overall the weather was good, and I had a great time. If I have the opportunity, I would like to try an overnight course next time.
Dear EBISEN58,
Thank you very much for your post about your experience. This course can be quite tough if you're not used to physical activity, but it's great to hear that you managed to reach the finish line. Although you participated in the summer this time, both spring and autumn, as well as winter without heavy snow, are full of fun, so we sincerely look forward to your next visit to the island.

I participated in this tour on the day of heavy rain, May 18. Fortunately, we were able to reach Jomon Sugi, but on the way back, there were places where the road had collapsed due to rising water. While other hikers were turning back, our guide proceeded without hesitation through the waterfall-like path, leading us forward. By the time we returned to the hiking trail, the water had risen to knee level in some areas. Just when we thought we could relax after getting back to the trail and boarding the bus, we found ourselves blocked by a fallen tree, preventing the bus from moving forward. In that situation, our guide took the initiative to go outside and cut the fallen tree with a saw. When we had to spend the night on the bus, the guide went out in the heavy rain to find a way back and called for help. Throughout the return from Jomon Sugi, the guide supported not only us but everyone else, continuously moving without rest. Their decisiveness and ability to take action were remarkable. Thanks to them, I was able to follow along with peace of mind. If it weren't for our guide... I am truly filled with gratitude. Thank you very much. Next time, I want to take on the Shiratani Unsuikyo challenge again.

Dear Yuu,
Thank you very much for your post about your experience, and I apologize for the delayed response.
On May 18, there was a once-in-50-years heavy rain that caused a landslide, resulting in an overnight stay on the bus, which must have been quite difficult. The news about that incident spread nationwide, and since then, the number of climbers on Yakushima has drastically decreased, but it is gradually recovering.
While it may have been a traumatic experience for both of you, the incident has led to stricter criteria for conducting tours, and we now offer tours that ensure customer safety.
We hope you will join us for the Shiratani Unsuikyo tour that you missed next time.

The weather was not on our side, and due to rain from the morning, we couldn't go to Shiratani Unsuikyo as planned... However, despite the bad weather, thanks to our tour guide's arrangements, we were able to see Jomon Sugi! On the way back, I was worried that the heavy rain might cause the river to flood, but it turned out to be quite an experience trekking in such downpours, and there were some interesting moments.
The warm miso soup made by our guide warmed up my chilled body from the rain!
Next time, I want to take on Shiratani Unsuikyo again!

I went to Yakushima for a 2-night, 3-day trip. Since I only had a full day for trekking, I chose a greedy course that allowed me to visit both Taiko Rock and Jomon Sugi. (laughs)
I participated with a friend, and the guide took photos for us at the photo spots, so we didn't need a selfie stick! Even as a beginner, I managed to reach the top. However, there was a huge difference in fatigue afterward between my friend, who exercises regularly, and me, who doesn't exercise at all. So, those who don't usually work out should be prepared before participating. My legs felt like sticks for about three days after the climb. (laughs)
Both Taiko Rock and Jomon Sugi offered breathtaking views. Since it rained on and off, a raincoat is essential. If you don't have trekking shoes, it's better to borrow some. The shoes I borrowed didn't let any water in, even when walking through some muddy areas!

My stay this time was only for one day. I didn't have enough time to reach Jomon Sugi, so I enjoyed hiking to Shiratani Unsuikyo (Taiko Rock). The weather was clear with not a single cloud in the sky at the summit. It was unusually good weather for Yakushima, but it was fantastic.
