It was a bit cold, but I was lent a blanket, which made it comfortable. There were many rowboats around, but true to their professional skills, they navigated safely with just a long pole. Arashiyama was very crowded, and I struggled to find parking, which made me late, but since it was a private tour, they kindly waited until everyone arrived. We had such a great time creating our little cupcake and fruit tart! The instructor was so kind and spoke very good English, while simultaneously explaining to another group of visitors in Japanese. It was also a nice change of pace from running around Tokyo to sit and do a craft. We had a hard time choosing additional souvenirs (a magnet and keychain) from their wide selection, and it felt nice to buy from a local business versus the mass produced ones you’ll see in tourist shops. We’d love to come back and do a larger craft next time we’re in town!

The weather was a bit disappointing and cloudy, but I was able to experience the wonderful history that is different from Kyoto, known as the ancient capital. The lunch was delicious kamameshi, and in the afternoon, the tea was wonderful, enjoyed alongside the beautiful scenery. It was a one-day tour, but it was a very enjoyable time without any boredom.

Since it's hard to meet a maiko even when visiting Kyoto, we decided to go and meet one ourselves, so we participated in this event. While enjoying a meal at a traditional Kyoto restaurant, we had a wonderful time watching the maiko's tea ceremony performance, participating in a Q&A session, taking commemorative photos together, enjoying the dance, and engaging in traditional parlor games. The "Konpira Funefune" game, which my husband participated in, was especially enjoyable for us as well. The maiko was beautiful too.
