Every year, I enjoy wearing a kimono at the end of December. This year, I used Kim's Sakura Photo Studio again. As always, the dressing time was incredibly quick! There were two of us, and the total dressing time was about 30 minutes, so it went by in no time with two staff members assisting us. The variety of kimonos in terms of colors and patterns was abundant, even more so than last year. I chose a somewhat subdued colored kimono with a flashy obi, accented with pink. We entered the studio at 10:30, and our free time started at 11:00.
First, we filled up at a sushi restaurant where the tuna is cheap and delicious, then we enjoyed the retro atmosphere and Dutch coffee (cold brew coffee) at the long-established café Angelus, which opened in 1946. Finally, we had a great time at the Asakusa Engei Hall enjoying a variety show. The afternoon show at Asakusa Engei Hall ends at 4:10 PM, so if we listen until the end and return to the studio, we can easily make it back by the kimono return time of 5 PM.
I rarely have the opportunity to wear a kimono in my daily life, but it’s a nice change of pace. With this service, there's no need to buy a kimono myself, and I can enjoy various styles, so I think it would be fun to invite my close friends for a kimono girls' gathering in Asakusa.
We participated with our family of four, all of us experiencing a yakatabune for the first time, and we were excited about this unknown adventure.
The route for the day included spots like the Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and Odaiba. The view from the boat was, of course, wonderful, but the interesting trivia shared by the staff added to the enjoyment.
The food was plentiful, featuring sashimi and tempura, and it was quite filling. As a family that tends to eat a lot, we were a bit concerned about the portion sizes, but it turned out to be unnecessary worry. With an all-you-can-drink option, I enjoyed some alcohol while my family was very satisfied with juice.
There was also a birthday celebration for one of the participants, and a boat selling ice cream made an appearance, adding to the fun events of the day.
Most importantly, the staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. My son has a food allergy, and I consulted them about it right after boarding. They responded kindly on the spot and even checked the details just to be safe. When my son mentioned wanting to eat rice with his other dishes, they quickly understood and prepared the rice for him in advance. They provided various other services as well, always with a smile, which we greatly appreciated.
I’ve written a lot, but the best part of the day was seeing my son, with a camera around his neck and holding chopsticks and juice in both hands, exclaiming with a big smile, "This yakatabune is the best!!"
It was a thoroughly satisfying two and a half hours that flew by.
The tour fits the title, as you get to see the Shouzan Garden and watch maiko dance. It is worth the price. The guide kept things going at a good pace, with no wasted time. Additionally, the instructions sent in advance by Veltra were very helpful. I will book from them again.

The women were very lovely and sweet, and they worked very hard to make the dress up a great experience for us. There was a giant variety in kimonos, especially considering my friend was 5'5" and I'm 5'11. The service was prompt and excellent, and we had a lot of fun and lovely reactions when we walked around the Asakusa Shrine nearby. I'd definitely recommend this experience to anyone, it was the best thing I did in my time in Japan and well worth the money.
It was a unique and once in a lifetime experience. I am glad I did it. The staff are very friendly.
One of the most anticipated experience in Japan was wearing the traditional kimono. I didnt know there were so many things needed to complete a kimono. We walked around Asakusa and all the tourists were clicking their cameras. I felt like a celebrity. It was a very good experience I can never forget.
We had an excellent experience at Seisouji. We arrived at our scheduled appointment and was immediately greeted by a very friendly staff and they showed us a few choices of kimonos to choose from. Once we chose our kimonos my girlfriend and I were greeted down stairs by a rickshaw that gave us a very nice tour and dropped us off close to Seisouji where we walked around and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon receiving many random compliments from strangers. It was a very fun experience and I highly suggest it to anyone looking for a fun afternoon in Asakusa. The staff spoke and understood very good English so communicating was never a problem. :)
.great fantastic☆i am very surprised☆☆
Thankyou for verymuch☆
Since I had never boarded a yakatabune before, I was so excited about trying it.
It took me about a five-minute walk from the station to the boat boarding area.
On boarding the boat, I was greeted by young high-spirited ladies wearing a towel around their heads. I was impressed by their cheerful greetings both in Japanese and English.
I enjoyed beer and delicious dish right away. They cooked Tempura on the boat. Freshly fried tempura was served.
We were able to stop by tourist spots and enjoy the view from the boat at Odaiba. It was a good us to choose this day ,because the weather was great and we really enjoyed it!
A wide range of people were on board, there were tourists from Tokyo, the locals and travelers from overseas that were all introduced by a friendly young lady which made the vibe very lively on board!
It was nothing like just taking a ordinary boat, instead, it was as if signing up for a Japanese house boat tour with a tour guide on board. I'll definitely use the service again when next time my friend visit Tokyo!

To celebrate a birthday, we joined this cruise with two small kids. We could see the Christmas lights in Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree. Also we enjoyed fireworks in Odaiba. We had freshly cooked Tempura and drinks as much as we wanted. All of us were very satisfied. It was a dream day out!
<Meeting Point>
In the morning, “Harumiya” called me and we could confirm the meeting point and time so we did not have any worry about it. There were staff wearing happi coats in front of the pier.Boarding started about 15 minutes before sailing time.
<Ship>
There were two rows of sunken kotatsu tables. Families, couples, small groups shared the boat. We were close to each other, and immediately got along with the people around, it was a harmonious atmosphere.
<Meals and Drinks>
The starter was a Kaiseki meal, then Japanese Nabe. A variety of Tempuras were served. Everything was delicious. The freshly cooked Tempura was the best since it was very cold mid-winter. For the passenger aged under 5 years old there were no meal served,however, parents could share their meals because of the volume of food. There were a lot of choices in drinks, all included in the ticket price.
<Night Scenery>
The night scenery from Tokyo Bay is really beautiful. When the ship stops, you can climb up to the sky deck, and take in the magnificent view. It was during the Christmas illumination period, so Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Fuji TV main office, and Tokyo Sky Tree all lighted up in Christmas mode. I just happened to see the fireworks of Odaiba which are held on Saturdays!
<Service>
The staff of the houseboat was amiable. Going out with small children is often troublesome. However, this houseboat excursion was very good. Staff was welcoming to small kids and entertained them. Parents could relax and enjoy the event.
Initially I was worried about the houseboat trip in winter. But it was great. I would like to go again in warmer weather.

I wanted to have my foreign friend experience Japanese culture in Kyoto, so I applied for it.
We enjoyed choosing beautiful kimonos and wearing them. When taking photos in kimono, they advised us about posing. Townhouse tour was also interesting.
I also tried tea ceremony.
I truly recommend this tour to ladies. Joining this tour will make ladies so excited! You can have amazing experience.

Thank you for your great reveiw!!
I’m glad that I took part in this tour. I joined with a friend, and it was as if we both turned into models.
First of all, the studio is conveniently located, only 1-3 minutes from Kaminari-mon on foot. As it’s a rented room in a building, it was hard to find it. When we went inside, Kyonming spoke to use politely. The studio is small, but Kyongming made us really cute. We wore elegant kimonos with Nagoya obis. I recommend the Nagoya obi highly.
They arranged my hair simply and put 3 hair accessories on my hair! After putting Kimono on, it's time for a photo shoot! I was so excited about getting photographed and making many poses in Asakusa! Please have a look at pictures I attached! We had free time until 5 so had a stroll in Asakusa. However, tourists looked at us, they wanted take our pictures like paparazzi, so we were in many pictures with people from many countries for their souvenirs.
It was the best experience ever. I would love to do it with my friends again! You should try it at least once, as it is a rare opportunity to take pictures of you wearing Kimono at this price!

My husband and I arrived an hour late due to our mistake with trains. Despite this we received a warm welcome from Sakura-san. She was welcoming to both of us. She let me choose the Kimono and dressed me. She chose the flowers and shoes to match with the Kimono. I brought a paper fan but rented an umbrella as it was a hot day. Sakura San also gave me a 5% off voucher for rickshaw but I did not use it. I received compliments from many Japanese woman and also a lot of attention from tourists. I was asked by a western tourist if he could take my photo. I was very pleased with her service as I would recommend it to any lady to when in Tokyo. Asakusa is an appropriate location.

Trying this out was definitely one of the best decisions I made during my trip to Tokyo. The photo studio had a wide range of choices for kimonos with matching hair accessories. I liked how Sakura-san did my makeup and how she directed the photo shoot. Asakusa was lovely, I wish I could have allotted more time for this activity as there were so many nice places to see and stop by! I really hope I could do this again when I visit Tokyo.

I participated on the last day of my trip to Okinawa. Since I couldn't swim in the sea during winter, I was satisfied just to be able to go out on a boat. I was also very pleased with the shrimp for dinner. An attendant was singing Okinawan songs in front, which allowed me to enjoy a relaxing cruise.
Thank you for boarding, Yuko. We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the last night of your trip with the cruise. If you have the opportunity, please also experience our summer BBQs. West Marine

I am surprised that I could get everything from kimono dressing to hair arrangement at such a reasonable price. They have a wide variety of beautiful yukata available for rental.
Thank you for the wonderful experience.
It's beautiful and interesting. I experienced a different kind of culture by just wearing it
I find it uncomfortable at first but minutes later, I enjoyed and somehow get used to wearing it while other people are looking at us.
The weather was nice, and the food was delicious, but it felt a bit different from the atmosphere I was expecting. Rather than being stylish, it was quite casual. I would recommend it for those who enjoy that kind of vibe! The sunset was beautiful, but I thought I would wait until it sank a bit more to take photos, and before I knew it, I had missed my chance because it turned around. It's a shame. If you want to take pictures, I recommend doing so in between meals.

I had never been on a yakatabune (traditional Japanese houseboat) before, so I was really looking forward to this experience!
It took about a 5-minute walk from the station to the boarding location, and I arrived without any issues. Upon boarding, I was greeted by enthusiastic staff wearing hachimaki (headbands), and I was impressed by their cheerful greetings in both Japanese and English!
I quickly enjoyed a beer and savored delicious dishes. It seemed they were frying tempura on board, and freshly made tempura was continuously brought out!
We stopped at sightseeing spots like Odaiba, and during that time, we could go out on the deck to enjoy the view. The weather was great, so it felt wonderful, and I was glad I chose this day!
There was a wide range of participants, including people visiting Tokyo from various regions, locals, and international guests. The staff casually introduced everyone, which made the atmosphere on the boat very lively! It felt more like a guided yakatabune tour rather than just a boat ride, and I thought it would be great to use this experience again when my friends come to visit Tokyo!
I signed up for this package thinking this tour was in English. It was in Japanese. Food was OK. Average food that you would expect from tours. Nothing amazing, but if you never had Kyoto dish this is a good experience for you. Dinner was near Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion), not in Gion. Another detail that I had missed. Though it was impressive to see some trees as old as 500 years old in the Jaoanese garden where we had dinner, the garden itself was not so enjoyable. Night view of the Kyoto is lame and not sure if it was worth driving all the way across town for that. Recommended for Maiko experience only.
Where else can one do this? The staff is very accommodating. I speak no Japanese, but one of the girls, Satomi, spoke English very well. She was a dream! There are several colors kimonos to select from as well as obi and hair ornaments. Everyone gets a small locker to store your clothes/purse, etc. The photography session was lots of fun, laughing all the time.
I did have a little trouble finding the street and building, too, once I got on the correct street. A map or better written instructions would have been helpful. Also, maybe I missed it, but I didn't even seen a sign for this business? I wound up asking a local...who just happened to work there.
One other suggestion. The space to change clothes is very, very small. There were other clients in the small space, and the congestion was a bit difficult.
Overall, I'm so glad I did this. I learned a lot about the process & what it takes to be a Maiko. Satomi, you ROCK! Thanks so much for being so kind and helpful.
Thanks for coming!I'm Satomi,I'm glad that you've enjoyed our experience.
We're so sorry about our locker room.Since we only have a small space in our building, it's hard for us to get bigger space.
Our building is called"Machiya", it's build in 1900's so that's why we only have a small space.
"Machiya" is a Kyouto's traditional building,so many tourist love to see this.
Kyouto's street is very difficult to understand, sorry that we confused you.
Hope to see you again, thank you so much!
My friend and I had a wonderful time having ourselves dressed up in Kimonos (size UK14 to 18)..feeling great and walking along the streets of Asakusa, taking in the wonderful feel of Spring, with full bloom sakura trees around. We also engaged a cameraman to tale pictures of us. A once in a lifetime experience, wonderful and it does not hurt my pocket ;) I would highly recommend this unique and life time experience to those who wish to experience for themselves, one of many Japanese cultures. Thanks to our host, Kiyomi and her team (1 other assistant and Hiroshi, the cameraman).
I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. I learned so much about what it takes to be a Maiko. Satomi was the dresser/make-up artist who helped me. She spoke English, which enabled me to learn a lot about the process and what all is involved in becoming a Maiko. I highly recommend! My only critique is that is not so easy to find the location. More detailed maps/instructions would be very helpful.
I had a beautiful kimono dressing with a Nagoya obi and a lovely fukurasuzume style. My hairstyle was also set up cutely. I had the opportunity to take photos at Kaminarimon and Tokyo Skytree, and they sent the pictures to me right away via email. I definitely want to use this service again.
I had a kimono experience in Asakusa before it got crowded for the New Year. It's been about 10 years since I last wore a kimono, aside from a yukata, so I was excited to see how it felt as I headed to Asakusa. The studio is located in a building, which might be a bit hard to find, but it's right where the map indicates. Just head inside the building without getting lost, and you'll find it right away.
First, you choose your kimono. They have a variety of options, from classic to modern styles. It might be fun to pick a pattern that's a bit different from what you usually wear. Once you've chosen your kimono, the staff will coordinate everything perfectly for you. They will also style your hair neatly, so there's no need to worry.
After getting dressed, I strolled around the streets of Asakusa. Nowadays, Asakusa has many foreign tourists, so there were moments of taking pictures together and interacting with them. I visited Senso-ji Temple, enjoyed some local craft beer at the base of Azumabashi, and had sushi on the famous sushi street in Asakusa before heading back to the studio. I fully enjoyed Asakusa in my kimono.
They also have options for men, so I thought it would be quite lovely for couples to participate in a kimono date for special occasions. I would like to join again sometime in the future.
We participated in a family birthday celebration with our two children. In addition to the Christmas illuminations at Odaiba and Tokyo Skytree, we also got to see the fireworks at Odaiba. With freshly fried tempura and all-you-can-drink options, everyone in the family was completely satisfied and full. It was truly a little luxury!
<Meeting Place>
On the morning of the event, I received a call from Harumiya to confirm the meeting place and time, which made me feel at ease about participating. Since many yakatabune (traditional Japanese boats) depart from the same dock, you can't board early. There is a staff member from Harumiya wearing a happi coat in front of the dock, where you check in and confirm your seating. Boarding starts about 15 minutes before departure.
<Onboard>
There are two rows of sunken kotatsu tables. Families with children like ours, couples, small groups, and employees from a company in Ibaraki all share the space, which creates a close-knit atmosphere where everyone gets along and enjoys a friendly vibe.
<Food & Drinks>
Initially, a full kaiseki meal is set up, and around the time we finish the hot pot, freshly fried tempura is served one type at a time. Everything is delicious, but the freshly fried, piping hot tempura is exceptional! Eating hot dishes in the warm cabin under the cold winter sky feels special. Children aged 0 to 5 do not receive meals, but there is enough food to share from the parents' dishes. The all-you-can-drink menu is also extensive, and I enjoyed the night view of Odaiba with a glass of wine in hand.
<Night View>
The night view of Tokyo from Tokyo Bay is truly beautiful. While docked, you can go up to the sky deck on the second floor and enjoy an unobstructed view. Since it was during the Christmas illuminations, Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Fuji TV headquarters, and Tokyo Skytree were all lit up for the holiday, and experiencing a "Japanese-style Christmas" from the yakatabune was wonderful. We were also lucky to see the Odaiba fireworks, which happened to be taking place on that Saturday, from the sky deck.
<Service>
The staff provided a lively and pleasant service with a down-to-earth Tokyo vibe. Going to restaurants can be daunting with small children, but this yakatabune welcomes kids, and the staff made sure to keep them entertained, allowing parents to relax and enjoy.
I was wondering what winter on a yakatabune would be like, but it turned out to be a great decision. I would love to participate again in a refreshing season!
<船内>
<夜景>
