I planned a trip with the purpose of attending the Sapporo Snow Festival, but after receiving advice from my son’s wife, who has experience living in Hokkaido, I quickly booked a tour.

The scale was smaller compared to the Snow Festival, but it's hard to express in words, so please check the photos. The journey included encounters with deer and sights like Lake Shikotsu, making the trip to the venue full of highlights.

It seems you can also get there using public transportation, but considering the cold and the thought of waiting in line, it was a great success to follow the advice and go with the tour. The guide was very friendly and introduced us to various attractions, making for a truly enjoyable time.

The ice fishing for wakasagi was absolutely the best part of my 2-night, 3-day trip!

The guide was incredibly kind and friendly, sharing interesting facts about Hokkaido on the way from Sapporo Station to the fishing spot, and we arrived in no time.

The local staff were also very helpful, allowing us to experience drilling holes for the wakasagi fishing.

Thanks to the guide's precise instructions, I was really happy when I caught two wakasagi at once after initially not catching anything!

The café au lait served in a Nordic wooden cup and the crispy, freshly fried wakasagi were truly delicious…! I’m so grateful; words can't fully express how wonderful this experience was!

２泊３日の旅で断トツこのワカサギ釣りが最高でした！

ガイドのお父さんがまず親切で優しく、札幌駅から釣り場に行くまで、北海道の雑学も織り交ぜて下さってあっという間に現地に到着

現地スタッフの方も手間を惜しまず、ワカサギ釣りの穴あけ体験までさせて下さいました。

My experience with the Abashiri sightseeing bus was very good, with the guide's explanations being clear and the course, including lunch, going smoothly without any issues. However, I was disappointed that the weather on that day was unusually warm across the country, and in Abashiri, the main attraction of drifting ice was flowing out to sea, which meant I couldn't have the experience I had hoped for.

I had been looking forward to this for a long time, but when I arrived, the abnormal warmth in February, which even the locals had never experienced, was surprising. I had prepared for temperatures around minus ten degrees on the Aurora ship, but with no wind and temperatures above ten degrees, I was relieved to be comfortable without my coat. Unfortunately, the crucial drifting ice had moved away, leaving only a small amount of ice floating around Abashiri.

What saved the day was the beautiful view of the snow-capped Shiretoko mountain range under clear skies. In the end, I believe the various attractions I visited in Abashiri were so good that they made me want to challenge myself to return again in the future.

　網走観光バスの体験は、ガイドさんの説明もよく、コースの先も昼食等何ら問題もなく、大変良かったと思っています。
　ただ、当日の気候は全国的に暖かくて、当該地の網走も気象観測値を更新する記録の中での本来の主目的であった流氷が沖に流れて期待以上の体験が出来なかったことが残念でならない。
人生の後短いものが、やっと念願のものが達成されると喜んでいたが、開いてみれば、異常気象で地元民も体験していないと言うくらいの２月の暖かさで、オーロラ号船上でマイナス１０度程度の気温を覚悟し防寒対策をして臨んだものの、風もなく10度以上の気温から上着を脱ぎ寒くなくて良かったと喜びもよそに、肝心の流氷は沖へ去り網走周囲には何もなく少しの氷が浮いている状況でした。
　救われたのは、晴天の遥かに知床連山の白い雪のかぶった山々がきれいに見えたことでした。
　最後に、網走で見学した各観光は年を置いて、再度挑戦する気持ちの起こる程に良かったと思います。

荷物も置けるし貴重品BOXもあるのであとは基本的には手ぶらでgo。私は首から防水ケースのiPhoneとGoProをつっていきました。貸してくれた防水グローブがタッチ可能だったのでiPhone操作も問題なしでした。いずれにせよ写真は後でいっぱいもらえます。

少し移動したら見渡す限りの流氷原。慣れるまでは慎重に歩いてその後は氷割ったり海に使ったり。吹雪くとさすがに寒いらしいですが、この日は後半沖の方は晴れてきました。

The weather was perfect (except for lunch). The drift ice was in perfect condition, and the Shiretoko mountain range was clearly visible, which was very nice. However, about lunch... I had some hokke (a type of fish), but it was as cold as if it had just come straight out of the refrigerator. I didn't find it tasty at all. I can't recommend this place for individuals... I understand that it's challenging to accommodate a large number of people, but it was a bit disappointing... Everything else was perfect, so it's a shame.

It was a very fulfilling tour that allowed us to cover so many activities in just one day. I wish someone had informed us that the bus was not open. The Ice Festival itself was good, but I think half the time would have been sufficient. Thanks to the guide's thorough explanations, I had a fun time for three and a half hours. There was blue sky, and although visibility was poor due to clouds, it cleared up quickly, allowing us to experience the rapidly changing mountain weather. The surface of Lake Kussharo reflecting the blue sky was incredibly beautiful. I walked along the ridge with excitement, and for the final summit attack, I crawled my way up. We were picked up on time in front of the ANA Hotel lobby. There were 46 people on the tour, but on the day I participated, half of them were from overseas. The guide explained everything in both English and Japanese, which I found very impressive. The explanations were thorough and kind. The Shikotsuko Ice Festival was also magical and fun. The weather was nice, and the light displays were beautiful. The roasted marshmallows cooked over the bonfire at the venue were delicious. It was cold, but if you dress warmly, you'll be fine! I'm glad I brought crampons. An hour and a half of sightseeing at the venue felt just right. The bus arrived smoothly, which was great. Maybe it was because it was a weekday. The guide mentioned that on weekends, you have to line up to park. I'm glad I participated.

It was a shame that the tour didn’t allow us to watch the sunset at Cape Notoro; instead, we were stuck on the bus during the golden hour, going back to Abashiri Station.

Besides, when it came to lunch selection, there were only two choices, and I clearly pointed out the fish set menu to the guide, as the other choice contained raw fish that I don’t eat. I don’t know how the guide could even get it wrong. Luckily, there was a very nice girl who was willing to switch with me. But it was still annoying, as the guide's reaction made me feel like I was the dumb one who couldn’t even remember what I’d ordered.
