We were picked up on time in front of the ANA Hotel lobby. There were 46 people on the tour, but on the day I participated, half of them were from overseas. The guide explained everything in both English and Japanese, which I found very impressive. The explanations were thorough and kind. The Shikotsuko Ice Festival was also magical and fun. The weather was nice, and the light displays were beautiful. The roasted marshmallows cooked over the bonfire at the venue were delicious. It was cold, but if you dress warmly, you'll be fine! I'm glad I brought crampons. An hour and a half of sightseeing at the venue felt just right. The bus arrived smoothly, which was great. Maybe it was because it was a weekday. All the places we went are worth visiting, and the weather was great, so the view was breathtaking.

But I feel I need to come back again another time, as the time length for Abashiri Prison Museum and Cape Notoro was way too short. The group size is big.

It was a shame that the tour didn’t allow us to watch the sunset at Cape Notoro; instead, we were stuck on the bus during the golden hour, going back to Abashiri Station.

Besides, when it came to lunch selection, there were only two choices, and I clearly pointed out the fish set menu to the guide, as the other choice contained raw fish that I don’t eat. I don’t know how the guide could even get it wrong. Luckily, there was a very nice girl who was willing to switch with me. But it was still annoying, as the guide's reaction made me feel like I was the dumb one who couldn’t even remember what I’d ordered.

I caught over 10 fish, but my friends and other groups only caught 2 or 3, which was a bit disappointing. The lecture is thorough, so even beginners in fishing will have no problem. For those who are not comfortable with insects, I think you can manage the baiting, but it's a good idea to bring something to wipe your hands. The tempura they fry on-site is delicious, but it's only available once towards the end, so any fish caught afterward will need to be released. It might be because the fishing location changed, but we ended up finishing about 40 to 50 minutes later than scheduled, which caused some of our plans to be canceled. I think it's better to make reservations with some extra time in mind.

朝起きると流氷がだいぶ沖に流れていたので開催を心配しましたが予定通りでした。
この日は湾内での開催だったので流氷もしっかりあり、気温が10度弱で亀裂も多く流氷にドボンと浸かりやすくてよかったです。
ガイドさんがたくさん写真撮ってくれたのもよかったです。

強いて言えば、レンタル品でスマホ防水ケースがあれば嬉しかった(事前に防水ケースがあったほうがいいよとお声がけいただけたら嬉しかった)のと、湾内だとどうしても写真後ろに防波堤が映り込むのが惜しかったです。

でも、無料でたくさん写真もらえたので大満足です！

Since my stay was short, I looked for something simple that I could join without any gear and signed up. After gathering at Sapporo Station, we boarded a bus and after a short ride, we saw colorful tents lined up over a river covered in snow.

We borrowed waterproof pants and other gear in a room at the base store and headed out for whitebait fishing. With the help of a veteran instructor and friendly staff, my children, aged 5 and 9, were able to experience catching fish on their own. While support was needed until they got used to handling the equipment, the staff quickly came around to assist the kids, allowing the adults to enjoy their own fishing experience as well. We had fun competing in fishing as a family.

The tempura isn’t something that fills you up, but the freshly fried whitebait eaten on the ice and snow became a memorable experience. After finishing, lunch was prepared at the store, and we were taken back to the station. It was a half-day course, but it felt just right since we had another plan right after in the afternoon.

Initially, I planned to just take a boat from Abashiri to see the drift ice, but as I researched, I found out that I could walk on the drift ice with Veltour, and even go further in, so I decided to go to Shiretoko.

I had some worries like, "What if there’s no drift ice?" or "What if the weather prevents us from walking?" but I was really glad that we were blessed with good weather and could safely experience it.

I had thought that the drift ice was all separate and just floating, so when I first saw it from a distance, I thought, "This is just like walking on snow." However, as I walked on it, I encountered the floating drift ice, and when I thought it was solid, it would sway and I would stumble or get stuck, which made it really fun. It was truly enjoyable!

I love Hokkaido and have been there many times, but this was the most fun and memorable experience I've had! I definitely want to participate again next year.

Our guide, Imahi, was very friendly and was smiling the whole time, which made the experience even more enjoyable and warm-hearted.

最初は網走から船に乗って流氷を見るだけの計画を立てていましたが、調べる内にヴェルトラさんで流氷の上を歩くことができる、さらに入ることができると知り知床まで行くことにしました。
流氷が来ていなかったら、、
天候によって歩けなくなったら、、
などせっかく行くのに、と不安もありましたが、天候に恵まれ無事体験することができてほんとに良かったです。
流氷とは1つ1つ離れていて全てがプカプカ浮かんでいるものだと思っていたので、初め遠くから見ていると「これって雪の上歩くのと同じやん」と思っていました。
ですが歩いていくとプカプカした流氷にも出会えたし、固いと思ったらゆらゆらで転ける、ハマる、というようなおもしろさもあり、ほんとに楽しかったです。
北海道がだいすきでたくさん行きましたが今までで1番楽しい最高の思い出ができました！
ぜひまた来年も参加したいと思います。

ガイドのいまひさんの愛想もとてもよくて終始ニコニコしており、いまひさんのおかげでさらに楽しめたし温かい気持ちになりました。

Although we could see the drifting ice from land, the view from the ship was truly impressive and made us feel the power of nature! I heard that there are times when the drifting ice isn't present, so whether you can see it seems to depend on luck. However, on the day we participated, there were parts of the sea surface visible, and as we went further out, we encountered a lot of drifting ice. It was very moving to navigate through it by boat. In the distance, we also spotted Steller's sea eagles and white-tailed eagles, which was fantastic! The tour was packed with activities, making for a busy itinerary, but I don't think we could have visited so many places in just one day on our own. I would recommend this tour for those who want to experience Abashiri in a short amount of time.

This is perfect for exploring various places on your own! I participated in this tour, and although it was a bit rushed, I was able to fully enjoy Abashiri in just half a day, which is unique to this tour. I was very satisfied.

When we finally stopped by Notoro Cape, I thought, "Oh, that lighthouse from the Arashi commercial," but when I actually got there, I was overwhelmed by the sound of waves mixed with drifting ice crashing against the cliffs and the biting cold wind. It was an incredible experience!

I probably wouldn't have visited this place on my own, so I'm really glad I was taken there. I want to go back even outside of the drifting ice season.

自分では多分、寄ってなかった場所なので、連れて行ってもらえてホントに良かったです
